On Thursday, the United Nations General Assembly voted to pass a resolution calling for an end to the provocations in Ukraine and for Russia to pull back its forces.
Six countries took the side of Russia during the vote, while 141 countries voted in favor of the resolution.
World Against Russia
In addition to Russia’s opposition to the proclamation, Belarus, North Korea, Syria, Eritrea, Mali, and Nicaragua all voiced their opposition.
The resolution does not have the power to compel Russia to withdraw from Ukraine, but it does signal a condemnation from the world community against Moscow’s aggressiveness.

On Thursday, China, India, Pakistan, and South Africa were four of the 32 countries that did not vote for or against the resolution.
The vote symbolizes a minor expansion from the handful of nations that resisted a resolution in October rebuking Russia’s seizure of Ukrainian lands. At that time period, Mali and Eritrea chose not to participate in the voting.
Russia has forged intimate military relations with each of the six nations that are fighting against the resolution. However, the amendments Belarus sought, which would have removed a significant portion of the resolution’s content, were soundly shot down.
The United Nations overwhelmingly voted in favor for Ukraine and its territorial integrity. Even some countries which usually try to stay neutral voted in favor, while the same 6 garbage regimes hold on Putin because it is their final life line before being razed.#Ukraine pic.twitter.com/8C1EMFucoU

The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, hailed the vote as a victory and interpreted it as evidence of international support for his country. The vote was 141-7.
According to Kuleba, the result of the vote disproves the argument that countries in the global south do not support Ukraine. The majority of nations from Latin America, Africa, and Asia voted in support of the motion.
One Year Anniversary
On the front lines, the Ukrainian military reported an increase in Russian military activity in the east and the south as the anniversary date drew closer.
At least 20 – 25 villages and towns in the three northern areas along the Russian border came under fire during this time.
This time last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a full-scale incursion of Ukraine in the hopes of quickly capturing Kyiv and bringing down the pro-European government.
However, those hopes were dashed by the fierce defense and military blunders that humiliated Moscow.
Late in 2022, Ukraine was successful in regaining a significant portion of the land it lost in the conflict through the use of counteroffensives. Russia’s authority over Ukraine has expanded to around a fifth of the country.
This past Friday commemorated the anniversary of one year since the Russian troops invaded Ukraine. Yet, the direction that the second year takes will be determined to a considerable extent by factors that are not associated with either country.
The conflict has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people on both sides, the destruction of entire cities in Ukraine, and an increase in the cost of food and gasoline around the globe.
