Standup Citizen Pursues Intoxicated Driver Who Killed Texas Officer

The officials in Texas have made public a video in which a bystander gives pursuit to an intoxicated motorist. The motorist attempted to flee the scene of an accident that resulted in the death of an off-duty Texas law enforcement officer.

Attempted to Flee the Scene

The video was obtained by Fox 4 Dallas and showed the aftermath of a crash in November 2021.

The collision occurred when Dylan Molina, 26 years old, was intoxicated and driving a rented Jeep at high speed; he collided with a white sedan at a crossroads in Lake Worth, Texas.

Alex Cervantes, a police officer who was off-duty, with the Euless Police Department, ended up operating the white sedan when it was involved in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene, but his wife and two of their children were injured.

Molina made an attempt to flee and is seen on video trying to run away before he tumbles. Then, he is forcibly restrained by a man who was yelling obscenities at him and telling him to stop.

Moments after @EulessPolice Detective Alex Cervantes was killed, officers ran a criminal history on Dylan Molina.

Days later, @lakeworthpd investigators picked up the case, & did an internal query.

In January, Molina entered a guilty plea to the charge of intoxication manslaughter and he was subsequently sentenced to 15 years in jail.

A local bartender named Cala Richardson has recently been arrested for the fatal crash. Richardson is being charged with a misdemeanor for supposedly overserving liquor to Molina in the moments leading up to the accident.

According to a report by KDFW-TV, it is suspected that Richardson offered Molina eight double vodka Red Bull drinks and 16 single shots on the Saturday morning before the tragedy.

Not His First Offense

Upon seeing footage from inside the bar, Lake Worth Police Chief J.T. Manoushagian said to the source that eight doubles and 16 single shots are more than anyone should have in a period of three hours.

Perhaps, no one should have them at all.

Dylan Molina reportedly drove drunk when he killed Euless Police Detective Alex Cervantes, last month.

Sansom Park Detective Robert Payne — accused of mishandling cases — let Molina go after a DWI arrest in May. Chief Carolyn Gilmore supported him.

They’ve each since resigned.

He continued by saying it was obvious the driver was not in a position to operate a car safely, manifestly affected by alcohol. He had another double vodka with Red Bull cocktails in his hand before he just up and leaves without saying a word.

Before colliding with Cervantes, it is thought that Molina was engaged in a separate, less serious collision while exiting the parking lot.

He was taken into custody for driving under the influence earlier in 2021, but he was not charged with that incident until after the accident in November. Molina’s prior conviction for driving while intoxicated contributed to his 15-year sentence.

Priscilla Cervantes, who is married to Detective Cervantes, stated on KDFW-TV that the man’s conviction would not bring Alex back, but at least he will be incarcerated and unable to inflict the same kind of suffering on another family as he did on theirs.
