Democrats Doubt Biden Re-election

The majority of Democrats, according to a recent poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, do not think President Joe Biden should run for a second term.

While 52% of Democrats wanted him to run again before the 2022 midterms, only 37% do so now.

According to a poll released by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, just 37% of Democrats nationwide want the president to seek a second term.

Age and Other Factors

Many people were worried about his age and some even said someone younger would be preferable for the position.

Biden is 80 years old now; if he were to serve as president for the whole eight years, he would be 86. Several responders, however, did not think his age was a factor and said he was in fine shape.

Despite being a national political figure for half a century, the poll showed only 41% of adults gave Biden top ratings for his ability to govern. Biden has previously cited his accomplishments as evidence that he is qualified for the position.

The poll also found that confidence in Biden’s ability to oversee the White House successfully dropped significantly, from 44% two years ago to just 23%. The percentage of people who have a lot of faith in Biden’s crisis management skills dropped to 21% from 26% in March last year.

Democrats, have expressed reservations about Biden seeking a second term in 2024. Only 37% of Democrats say Biden should pursue reelection, down from 52% prior to last year’s midterm elections, according to a recent poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs

The poll’s results were also disappointing when it came to respondents’ faith in Biden’s ability to implement significant policy changes.

This could be because he has to negotiate spending cuts with the Republican-controlled House to increase the government’s constitutional borrowing limit.

The survey also indicated only 22% of US respondents believe Biden should run for office again, which is a decrease from the 29% who held this opinion prior to the midterm elections in 2022.

Younger Democrats

The decrease in endorsement for a Biden reelection campaign seems centralized among younger Democrats. Currently, only 23% of Democrats under the age of 45 say he should run again. This is a significant drop from the 45% who said the same thing before the midterm elections.

Despite the findings of the survey, the press secretary at the White House, Karine Jean-Pierre, emphasized the outcomes of the election from the previous year were more important than polling statistics.

She stated “because the president got out there and spoke personally to the American people,” the Democratic Party was able to achieve some level of victory in the midterm elections of 2022.

In general, the poll results indicate the Democratic Party’s appetite for a Biden reelection campaign has decreased.

This decrease in appetite for him seeking another term comes despite the fact that a majority of Democrats continue to approve of the job Joe Biden is doing in his role as president.

In addition, the results of the poll indicate there is a lack of faith in Biden’s capacity to govern and achieve important policy objectives. This is something the president will have to face.
