Pfizer Forced to Issue Serious Recall

When various pharmaceuticals are put out on the market for public consumption, most Americans trust they’re above board and good to go. In many cases, these pharmaceuticals are later prescribed to help people who struggle with various medical ailments.

Due to the nature of the healthcare industry, when certain drugs have to be recalled, it can be disastrous. Depending on the reason for the recall, people who consume the drugs can run into medical problems, some of which are fatal.

When it comes to pharmaceutical recalls, Pfizer is now right in the middle of the storm, according to NBC News.

What to Know About Pfizer’s Latest Recall

Nurtec ODT is a form of medicine that is used to help people who suffer from serious migraines. However, Pfizer is now recalling over four million packages of Nurtec ODT, due to their failure to meet safety mandates that bar children from accessing the drug.

If children are able to ingest Nurtec ODT, this pharmaceutical can poison them. Because of how potent it is, Nurtec ODT is also required by law to come in packaging specifically meant to be child-proof.

Bits and Pieces:

Pfizer is recalling Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) because the packaging is not child resistant. There is nothing wrong with the migraine medicine. It will be re-released in safe packaging. Meanwhile, pharmacies should dispense Nurtec ODT in child-resistant containers. pic.twitter.com/TahAGraW0s

How this was missed on millions of different packages is a mystery. However, the recall certainly doesn’t look good for Pfizer.

After all, Pfizer has already been in hot water over the controversial COVID-19 vaccine. This latest incident with Nurtec ODT not being properly packaged is just another example of why many Americans have their reservations when it comes to big pharma.

Also, if any children do end up consuming and dying from Nurtec ODT because of improper packaging, this would certainly open the door to serious legal action being taken.

A Message to American Consumers

In light of the present recall, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission released a statement on the matter.

According to the commission, anyone who is currently in possession of Nurtec ODT needs to take extra steps to ensure the drug is secured and not easily accessible to kids. Furthermore, storing pouches that are made to keep children from accessing Nurtec ODT will also be made available to the general public.

Upon properly securing Nurtec ODT, the commission maintains that it is safe for appropriate adult consumption.

All things considered, one can only hope that Pfizer and other pharmaceutical companies in the future will be cautious when they are releasing drugs to the general public. The onus lies on them to ensure that packaging requirements and other measures are met before the product hits the market.

What do you think about this latest recall from Pfizer? Do you believe any additional issues with Nurtec ODT will emerge as a result of improper packaging that occurred ahead of the product’s distribution?
