There are very serious problems when it comes to minors being permitted to undergo gender changes via hormones or surgery. Minors, by definition, are not mature enough to make such a life-altering decision with serious consequences.
Nevertheless, many on the left have begun saying that folks who oppose “gender-affirming care” for children are evil and hateful. This couldn’t be any further from the truth.
Kids aren’t allowed to drink, get tattoos, or otherwise make certain decisions because their brains haven’t fully developed enough to understand the consequences.
Yet, there are still some people in society who believe gender transitioning for kids is acceptable. According to Washington Times, one Christian counselor, Brian Tingley, is fighting back against this in his own state.
Fighting it Out in Court
In Washington state, there are laws on the books that ban counselors from talking with their patients about potentially altering their gender identity or orientation.
It is Tingley’s position that such a ban is unlawful, due to the First Amendment. In his case, the Christian counselor makes note of the fact that those who seek the services of a counselor have the right to their own goals and to be made aware of their options.
TODAY: ADF attorneys asked #SCOTUS to reverse the 9th Circuit’s ruling in the case of Brian Tingley, a licensed counselor whose speech has been censored by a WA state law that prohibits certain private conversations with clients regarding sexual orientation and gender identity.

Currently, Washington’s law could lead to Tingley being hit with a $5,000 fine, in addition to the loss of his license to work.
This Isn’t Going Away
With the rise of people in this country arguing that kids should have the right to undergo hormones and gender reassignment surgery, issues like the ones raised by Tingley are here to stay.

As a Christian counselor, the advice that Tingley gives is in keeping with his own faith. People who come to see him are also very much aware that his faith will guide the advice he gives about various situations.
Now, many Americans fear that if Tingley isn’t successful in court, this will be yet another setback for religious liberty.
