Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) acknowledged in an interview with Face the Nation on Sunday that an “assault weapons” ban does not have the support necessary to pass in the Senate.
Not Enough Votes
Murphy claimed he plans to ban assault weapons and says he finds it completely inexcusable that these “weapons of war” are sold commercially. Though, the necessary votes are not present.
In most countries, assault weapons are illegal for very good reasons.
Murphy went on to propose broad background investigations that only pertained to the firearms Democrats classify as “assault weapons.” A training condition that must be fulfilled in order to purchase an AR-15 was another notion he promoted.
On March 28, 2023, President Joe Biden acknowledged he could not enact any new gun laws through executive order and urged citizens to lobby Congress to pass a prohibition on “assault weapons.”
According to Biden, owning assault rifles is a ridiculous concept for the majority of Americans, The Hill said.
.@ChrisMurphy says an assault weapons ban is not possible in Congress, but there might be support for requiring training before buying one. “We’d be a safer nation if we required just a little bit of training before you bought the most dangerous weapons commercially available.” pic.twitter.com/HEU2zOSLnu

Alternatively, most Americans are against a restriction on “assault weapons. This is according to an ABC/Washington Post survey that Breitbart News cited on February 7, 2023.
1,003 adults were polled between January 27 and February 1, 2023. In addition to this, 51% of them said they were against such a prohibition.
Americans have many reasons to adore their AR-15 semiautomatic weapons; therefore, it doesn’t really matter what the detractors have to say to them.
Tennessee state Rep. Bo Mitchell calls for assault weapon ban: “If more guns were the answer, Tennessee would be one of the safest places on the planet, but unfortunately we’re one of the leaders in the nation in gun violence.” https://t.co/Y8IIJj8RiX pic.twitter.com/gKwWBHKk6U

Some people view a gun as a tool, a skillfully honed instrument that with a single, accurate shot can kill anyone or penetrate a far-off target.
Others see it as a novelty, a sleek object made of steel and black plastic that releases a satisfying rush of adrenaline.
Americans Love Their Assault Rifles
Also, to many people, firearms represent the fundamental American principles of freedom, strength, and independence. To others, they represent mass shootings.
