Taking the Secretary of Defense to Task, Military Chaplains Are Asking the Supreme Court to Simply Enforce the Rule of Law

Image: Wikimedia Commons

Making its way to the Supreme Court of the United States, 38 military chaplains are challenging Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s authority to issue the 2021 COVID-19 vaccine mandate and its implementation, which are largely considered illegal and unconstitutional by those who have sought relief from its tyrannical enforcement.

The Gateway Pundit spoke to Arthur A. Schulcz Sr., retired Vietnam War veteran, and lead attorney in Alvarado v. Austin. On December 29, 2023, he said, the chaplains filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals’ dismissal of their claims for an injunction against continued retaliation for requesting religious accommodation and the District Court’s dismissal of their constitutional and statutory claims.

The Fourth Circuit said the claims were moot, meaning the courts could not provide a remedy because the military had allegedly fixed the chaplains’ concerns regarding the vaccine.

On March 21, the chaplains filed an application for injunctive relief with the Supreme Court to protect them during the petition process and thereafter. The group of chaplains is calling for the cessation of retaliatory actions used against them for refusing to get the jab on the grounds of religious objection.

And on Friday, April 26, the Supreme Court will have the opportunity to stay, or pause, the policies that have continued to impact these chaplains’ careers.

Schulcz said, “The Department of Defense (DOD) has waged an insurgency against Congress by not returning these chaplains to their pre-mandate status as required by Congress’s December 22, 2023, order to rescind the mandate.” According to Schulcz, “the mandate did nothing more than attempt to serve as a purge of those who believe in following conscience, violating the First and Fifth Amendments and statutory protections of all service members.

“All the rules were changed,” he said. “There was no intent to grant any religious accommodations, [and] that should shake every citizen’s faith in the military leadership.”

According to Schulcz, “The volunteer military is in danger of being destroyed by people who have no respect for the law or persons, especially religious liberty, and that is illustrated in our case.” It is his hope that the Supreme Court will intervene and “do its duty to uphold the law.”

Schulcz asked, “What institution do you turn to if the Supreme Court essentially says your conscience doesn’t matter or if the Court ignores obvious untruths from our military leaders and deliberately ignores what Congress has said DOD must do?”

According to him, “rescinding the mandate should mean restoring military personnel to their status before the mandate was issued, and that hasn’t been done.” He pointed out, “One of the primary issues in our case is whether the Secretary of Defense can lie to Congress and the courts without accountability.”

Following the rescission of the vaccine mandate, “adverse actions” from the files of those who requested religious accommodations are supposed to be removed. “But this is not true,” Schulcz said. While discipline actions like a General Officer Memorandum of Reprimand (GOMOR) have been removed, he pointed out that “the Secretary has not returned our chaplains and others to the status quo.”

He explained, “We have people that have failed promotion twice because of the bad fitness reports they received after filing for religious accommodation request, [noting that] two failures of promotion below the grade of Lieutenant Colonel or Commander in the Navy subject you to separation at the government’s whim.”

“We have chaplains whose reports during Covid guarantee they will not be promoted,” Schulcz noted. “One of our chaplains had his career destroyed during the ‘voluntary’ phase of the vaccine for questioning his commander about telling the troops the vaccine was voluntary and then punishing them for not volunteering,” he added. “But that chaplain’s job was to advise the commander of ethical and moral issues.”

Schulcz also pointed out, “the DOD has not been challenged over the fact that people have been hurt by lowered efficiency reports, missed schooling, etc., [adding that] all these things are forbidden by Section 533 [of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)].”

“What the mandate reveals and what we challenge is a complete disregard for the law,” he argued.

“Even now, the Secretary refuses to acknowledge anything was wrong,” said Schulcz, “If Congress said ‘rescind,’ the Secretary’s job is to salute and say, ‘yes, Congress,’ then examine the damage that’s been done and do something to fix it.”

But according to Schulcz, Austin has not done that. “Thus, his disobedience and lying to Congress is a matter the courts can and must be addressed,” he said. “Otherwise, woe to us as a nation.”

“Afterall, the right of conscience is integral to who we are as a nation and integral to the First Amendment, and this administration is doing what has never been done before,” shared Schulcz. “[It’s] substituting itself for God as the source of authority that determines right and wrong, and good and evil.”

“I deeply understand that the American fighting man and woman is a treasure and a blessing,” Schulcz said. “The American fighting man is unique, [because] they are the keystone in fulfilling the last stated objective for forming the Constitution, “to preserve the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity.”

For him, “the word ‘blessings’ is not a political or legal term.” Rather, he said, “The word reflects the fact that our founders knew our liberty was given to us as a gift by the Divine Providence to whom they appealed in the Declaration of Independence—a bold statement made by men with no army, no navy, no arms industry, no finances, and no friends except the Divine Providence to whom they appealed.”

“Their conscience compelled them to oppose the tyrant who denied the liberty and rights they had become accustomed to and were guaranteed in their law and history, rights they believed came from the Divine Creator,” Schulcz said, pointing out that “freedom of conscience is necessary for every First Amendment right.”

For chaplains in today’s military, he said, “their conscience is formed by faith and protected by Section 533 [of the NDAA], which Mr. Austin has ignored…a grave breach of the public trust.”

“Pastors played key roles in our War for Independence,” Schulcz shared. “The British called them the Black Robed Regiment.” Considering this, he said, “How fortunate that once again we have pastors in uniform defending ‘the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity.’”

Schulcz prays for a just decision to be made by the Supreme Court, one that recognizes the case is not moot and reinforces the public’s trust in the nation’s courts because they enforce the rule of law for all, including the government.

Sen. Rand Paul to Investigate Dr. Fauci’s Alleged ‘Secret CIA Visits’ Prior to COVID-19 Outbreak

Photo: Getty Images

Senator Rand Paul has publicly declared his intent to delve deeper into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic by examining what he describes as ‘secret off the books’ trips made by Dr. Anthony Fauci to the CIA prior to the outbreak.

The Kentucky senator and medical doctor revealed to DailyMail.com that his ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full scope of Fauci’s interactions with the CIA, especially given the intelligence agency’s ambiguous stance on the pandemic’s origins.

Dr. Fauci, who served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) until his recent departure, is under scrutiny for his alleged frequent, undisclosed visits to the CIA.

While the Department of Energy and FBI lean towards the theory that COVID-19 leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China, the CIA’s official position remains that the virus probably originated from animals.

“We have another whistleblower from the CIA that says that the scientific committee that was commissioned to look into the origins of the virus actually voted six to one that it came from the lab and that they were overruled by superiors at the CIA,” Paul told DailyMail.

In 2023, The Gateway Pundit reported that a CIA whistleblower had stepped forward, claiming the CIA manipulated the investigation into the origins of COVID-19. According to letters from House Coronavirus Subcommittee Chairman Brad Wenstrup and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner, the CIA offered “significant monetary incentives” to officials to shift their findings.

House Coronavirus Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH 2nd District) and House Intelligence Committee  Chairman Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH 10th District) sent a separate letter to CIA Director William Burns and former CIA COO Andrew Makridis, shedding new light on the agency’s actions regarding the origins of COVID-19.

“The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic (Select Subcommittee) and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) (together “the Committees”) have received new and concerning whistleblower testimony regarding the Agency’s investigation into the origins of COVID-19,” according to Wenstrup and Turner’s letter to CIA Director William Burns on Tuesday.

“A multi-decade, senior-level, current Agency officer has come forward to provide information to the Committees regarding the Agency’s analysis into the origins of COVID-19,” the letter read.

The CIA assigned seven officers to a specialized COVID Discovery Team to investigate the COVID-19 origin.

According to a high-ranking whistleblower within the CIA, the agency offered “significant monetary incentives” to officials on a COVID-19 investigative team to alter their positions on the virus’s origin. Initially, six of the seven members of this COVID Discovery Team were leaning towards a “low confidence assessment” that the virus likely originated in a Wuhan laboratory.

According to the whistleblower, at the end of its review, six of the seven members of the Team believed the intelligence and science were sufficient to make a low confidence assessment that COVID-19 originated from a laboratory in Wuhan, China. The seventh member of the Team, who also happened to be the most senior, was the lone officer to believe COVID-19 originated through zoonosis,” Wenstrup and Turner wrote.

“The whistleblower further contends that to come to the eventual public determination of uncertainty, the other six members were given a significant monetary incentive to change their position,” they added.

Senator Paul’s investigation also encompasses the financial aspects, including a notable increase in the NIAID budget for biomedical weapons research under Fauci.

In 2015, the NIH, under the direction of Dr. Tony Fauci, awarded a $3.7 million grant to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Daily Mail reported:

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Paul disclosed that Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), was friendly with the CIA – which is notably one of the few federal agencies that still has not clearly established COVID-19 origins.

‘The CIA officially still says [COVID-19 is] probably from animals,’ Paul said. ‘We also have stories, rumors and innuendo that Fauci was a frequent visitor off the books to the CIA.’

He pointed to how the CIA disagrees with findings from the Department of Energy and FBI that have said the the pandemic likely originated from a leak at a Wuhan, China, lab.

And that though an initial CIA assessment found the lab leak theory was likely, senior officials in the agency overruled their findings.

The agency’s reversal and its secretive meetings with Fauci are suspicious, Paul said.

On Tuesday, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) released a stunning report in which he discovered that 15 different federal agencies knew that the Wuhan laboratory in China was trying to create a COVID-19 virus since 2018.

Not one single official or employee in these 15 agencies revealed the truth to the American public during the pandemic.

FOX News reported:

How vast was the Great COVID Cover-up? Well, my investigation has recently discovered government officials from 15 federal agencies knew in 2018 that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was trying to create a coronavirus like COVID-19.

These officials knew that the Chinese lab was proposing to create a COVID 19-like virus and not one of these officials revealed this scheme to the public. In fact, 15 agencies with knowledge of this project have continuously refused to release any information concerning this alarming and dangerous research.

Government officials representing at least 15 federal agencies were briefed on a project proposed by Peter Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance and the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

This project, the DEFUSE project, proposed to insert a furin cleavage site into a coronavirus to create a novel chimeric virus that would have been shockingly similar to the COVID-19 virus.

What does this mean?

It means that at least 15 federal agencies knew from the beginning of the pandemic that EcoHealth Alliance and the Wuhan Institute of Virology were seeking federal funding in 2018 to create a virus genetically very similar if not identical to COVID-19.

Cornel West’s Bold Move: Choosing Melina Abdullah as VP in the 2024 Presidential Race

In an unexpected twist to the 2024 presidential race, Cornel West, a candidate running as an independent, has made a significant decision by selecting Melina Abdullah, a prominent Black Lives Matter activist and academic, as his vice-presidential running mate.

This choice introduces a unique blend of activism and academia into the political arena, signaling a campaign deeply rooted in the principles of justice and love.

Melina Abdullah, Cornel West’s running mate is an antisemite. Big Louis Farrakhan fan. Cornel is too. One example, when he was refused tenureship @ Harvard, he bizarrely blamed it on “Jews.”

The “free Palestine” fringe-left aren’t very good @ cloaking their racist antisemitism. pic.twitter.com/4Jb69KgQcj

— THOMAS (@TommyInPA) April 11, 2024

West, despite facing financial challenges with a campaign fund of just $1 million, praises Abdullah for her alignment with historic civil rights figures such as Fannie Lou Hamer and Martin Luther King Jr. This comparison not only elevates Abdullah’s status within the campaign but also strategically positions the duo as heirs to a rich legacy of civil rights advocacy.

Abdullah’s background as the leader of the Pan-African Studies Department at Cal State LA adds an academic depth to the ticket, merging scholarly insight with grassroots activism. This combination could potentially resonate with voters who are looking for candidates with a strong foundation in social justice issues and a clear commitment to addressing systemic inequalities.

Cornel West’s VP pick is BLM cofounder, Melina Abdullah. Abdullah has a history of anti-whiteness, including some peculiar theories in the attached video. As usual, blacks promote politicians who are racially adversarial while white politicians tend to avoid race altogether. https://t.co/sajsfMSjSp pic.twitter.com/XJacAactWH

— Frank DeScushin (@FrankDeScushin) April 10, 2024

However, the Democratic National Committee has expressed concerns over West’s candidacy, fearing that it may split the vote and inadvertently assist in the potential re-election of Donald Trump. This apprehension highlights the complexities of running as an independent in a predominantly two-party system, where the dynamics of vote distribution can have unintended consequences on the election outcome.

Despite these challenges, West and Abdullah are steadfast in their mission to promote a platform centered on justice and love. Their campaign represents a departure from traditional political discourse, focusing instead on a message that seeks to unite rather than divide.

The selection of Abdullah as a vice-presidential candidate is not just a political maneuver but a statement of intent. It underscores the campaign’s dedication to civil rights and social justice, areas that both West and Abdullah have passionately advocated for throughout their career.

As the 2024 presidential race heats up, the West-Abdullah ticket is poised to add a new dynamic to the election. Their campaign, though financially modest, carries the weight of historical civil rights movements and the promise of a more inclusive and equitable political landscape.

In conclusion, the choice of Melina Abdullah as Cornel West’s running mate is a bold strategy that brings activism and academia to the forefront of the 2024 presidential election. Whether this decision will translate into electoral success remains to be seen, but it undoubtedly sets the stage for a campaign unlike any other in recent history.

EMBARRASSING: Press Sec KJP OWNED by Reporter Over Biden HYPOCRISY | Beyond the Headlines

We all know that consistency isn’t one of the Biden administration’s strong suits. In the most recent displays of this, Karine Jean-Pierre is grilled by FOX News reporter Jacqui Heinrich on the administration’s treatment and rhetoric surrounding Republicans vs. radical Islamists in our country. Take a wild guess as to who they side with.

FBI Director Chris Wray Warns of Coordinated Attack on US Weeks After Moscow Islamist Attack on Concert Hall and 3 Years of Joe Biden’s Open Borders

Joe Biden’s illegal alien invaders mass at the Rio Grande before crossing into Texas.

Over 11 million illegal aliens crossed the open border with Mexico since Joe Biden took office. The Biden administration has no idea how many entered the country, who they are, or where they went.

In late March Islamic terrorists attacked a major music venue located in Krasnogorsk, a city in the north-west of the Moscow region, on a Friday afternoon. This occurred just days after the American embassy in Russia warned citizens of imminent attacks at mass events.

145 Russians were slaughtered by the terrorists during the attack.

Russia blamed the attack on foreign Islamists who were then captured on their escape route to Ukraine.

On Wednesday, Chris Wray warned Congress that there is concern of a future coordinated attack on the US weeks after the Crocus Theater attack.

Now they warn us!… after three years of open borders!

Why is Chris Wray still in charge of the FBI/

The New York Post reported:

FBI Director Christopher Wray will warn lawmakers later Thursday that there is a growing fear among law enforcement officials of a “coordinated attack” inside the US — weeks after an ISIS assault on a concert hall in Moscow killed 145 people and wounded hundreds more.

“Our most immediate concern has been that individuals or small groups will draw twisted inspiration from the events in the Middle East to carry out attacks here at home,” Wray will tell a House Appropriations subcommittee.

“But now, increasingly concerning is the potential for a coordinated attack here in the homeland, akin to the ISIS-K attack we saw at the Russia concert hall a couple weeks ago.”

On March 22, four gunmen affiliated with ISIS-K, a terrorist group that largely operates out of Afghanistan and Pakistan, stormed Moscow’s Crocus City Hall ahead of a sold-out concert, killing at least 145 people and wounding 551 more.

On Bird Flu, Dr. Peter McCullough Warns: “A Perfect Storm is Brewing”

(Note: Thank you for supporting businesses like the one presenting a sponsored message below and working with them through the links below which benefits Gateway Pundit. We appreciate your support!)

After warning us for months that 2024 could see another deadly pandemic, the medical establishment and governmental health organizations are sounding the alarm bells on bird flu.

Not only are they drawing comparisons to COVID-19, they are in fact claiming that bird flu has the potential to be 100 TIMES MORE DEADLY!

Now Dr. Peter McCullough has weighed in,

Fear Mongering, Food Supply Threat, Virus with a Deadly Past, BARDA Self-Amplifying mRNA Vaccines–A Perfect Storm is Brewing . . .

Bill Gates and the World Economic Forum (WEF) believe we should reduce our reliance on animal food products  as part of their globalist views. Thus, a food scare in westernized countries with market recalls and destruction of poultry and meat would further dystopian goals for the Davos club]. H5N1 has a historical fatality rate of 52.16% in humans and fear alone could drive considerable anxiety in large populations not only about exposure through food, but pets, and other humans.

It’s difficult to determine if H5N1 is the next ‘Disease X’ at the moment. It’s possible due to the abundance of GOF research and biotech interests, ready-made vaccines, and powerful drivers of mass panic in the wings. If more cases occur in clusters or bona fide outbreaks with human-to-human transmission, we could be well on our way to a 2024 avian influenza pandemic crisis.

Be Prepared

Now is not the time to panic, nor is this the time to be complacent – now is the time to be prepared.

Is This the Senate Seat Most Likely to Flip Republican?

Is This the Senate Seat Most Likely to Flip Republican?

Maryland calls itself “America in Miniature”—and perhaps this will prove true in more ways than one.

Let Hercules himself do what he may, the cat will mew and every dog will have his day—even when the dog in question is the generally hapless Maryland GOP.

The Old Line State’s federal legislators have a tendency to stick around for quite a while—Steny Hoyer, the former House Majority Leader, has been in the lower chamber since 1981—but from time to time one of these old crocodiles will shuffle off the scene, leaving a spot for a (relatively) younger, more energetic crocodile. Ben Cardin, who serves as one half of Maryland’s Senate complement, announced in May 2023 that he will not be seeking reelection.

This would not ordinarily be a cause for breaking out the champagne among the state Republicans, who haven’t fielded a senator since 1977. Further, the party is coming off an embarrassing 2022 cycle, in which they continued to be a non-factor in the state legislature—the Dems added three seats to their existing supermajority in the House of Delegates—and picked up no new Congressional seats. Worst, perhaps, the America First gubernatorial candidate Dan Cox was roundly punished at the ballot box, 64.5–32.1. Cox had won a primary battle with Kelly Schulz, the anointed successor of Larry Hogan, the popular two-term governor. Schulz was all wet, and her heart didn’t seem to be in the race—she didn’t seem interested in winning over the right wing of the state party, for example declining to answer the Maryland Right to Life’s abortion policy questionnaire.

Maryland is in some respects electorally similar to Massachusetts—a handful of dense blue counties, along with Baltimore City, ensure that the state legislature generally remains Democratic; yet there are enough rural voters and enough disgruntled high-net-worth taxpayers in the blue districts that the GOP has been able convincingly to contend for the governor’s mansion in the past decade and a half. (Before Rob Ehrlich’s 2003 election, the last Republican governor had been Spiro Agnew.) This is the sort of state party that has been ill served by the America First realignment; the overall share of the vote has not grown, but the core of the party has grown more hardline in its positions. In Maryland, the mythical Republican swing voter actually exists, and he’s none too excited by Cox’s hawkish efforts on behalf of Donald Trump’s anti–election fraud crusade.

But it’s a moment of weakness for the blue team, too. David Trone, the popular District 6 representative who had been the presumptive replacement for Cardin, is embroiled in a scandal. He uttered a word during a congressional hearing that I have never heard and frankly sounds made up, but is apparently a fairly full-bodied anti-black slur. If you are a Maryland Democrat, you can’t do that—at least not anymore. (Long gone are the days when the state party threw in for George Wallace.) His main challenger, Angela Alsobrooks, is looking to make the long-shot jump from Prince George’s County Executive to the national legislature’s upper chamber. If Gov. Wes Moore and other high-ranking state Democrats formally come out against Trone, a sufficient number of strictly party men may make cause with Alsobrooks’s black core constituency to elevate her.

Alsobrooks is a weak candidate—suffice it to say that Prince George’s County is not synonymous with good government in the state. (In 2010, the county executive, Jack Johnson, went to prison on good old-fashioned graft charges. Ladies and gentlemen, the Democrats!) She will be even weaker coming out of a hotly contested primary in which the moderate, bog-standard Maryland machine creature is publicly beaten with an identity-politics-inflected stick.

In the face of this disarray, the Republicans are set to get it together to nominate that beloved former governor—Larry Hogan. Hogan won his 2014 election soundly, 51–47.3; his second term was a mandate 55.4–43.5, won even in the face of anti-Trumpian headwinds in the suburbs. The state ran a surplus under his supervision, and he successfully thwarted many of the zanier efforts from the liberal state legislature. In 2022, he had an approval rating of 70 percent. These are the marks of a winner.

The right wing of the state party came to dislike him for Covid lockdowns, but, for better or worse, the national bad feelings around the Emergency of 2020 have faded. His public break with Trump is harder to get around, but the fundamental question remains, Whom would you rather have? They’re not going to be voting for Alsobrooks in Garrett County. Despite the beef between Hogan and Trump, the Marylander has shown himself loyal to the party, apparently shrugging the dreams of the erstwhile No Labels project without much second thought. It should be easy enough for the men to bury the tomahawk, especially as Trump tacks toward the center for the general election. And polling already shows Hogan winning against Trone.

Whom would you rather have? This is the question that may sweep Trump back into the White House. Despite the gloomy conventional wisdom about the GOP’s chances in the legislature, it is also a cause for hope down ticket—even in the land of the crab and the rockfish.

Hillary Clinton Shows Up to State Dinner for Japanese PM Wearing Bizarre Muumuu Dress and Social Media Comments Are Brutal

Credit: @BennyJohnson

On Wednesday night, Joe Biden hosted a state dinner for Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishidaw with several elitist leftists in attendance as guests, including one infamous couple.

As the New York Post reported, Bill and Hillary Clinton showed up alongside several Big Tech billionaires, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Apple CEO Tim Cook. The Post notes the Clintons were joined at the head table by deranged actor Robert De Niro in the White House East Room.

Upon arrival, Hillary caught some unwanted attention online with her choice of clothing during the event. As one can see in the photo above, she is wearing what appears to be a bizarre Moo-Moo dress, somewhat resembling a shower curtain.

Conservative commentators Benny Johnson and Ian Miles Cheong asked their followers for their thoughts on Hillary’s outfit, betting they would get colorful responses. Not surprisingly, they had some brutal replies in store.

Actor Matthew McConaughey Says “There’s an Initiation Process” in Hollywood

In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey shared that there is an “initiation process” in Hollywood.

The star of Lincoln Lawyer shared with People Magazine that he’s had his highs and lows as an actor but essentially had to find out the hard way how Hollywood operates.

McConaughey stated, “Overall, I believe there’s been inherent goodwill for me, but it did not keep me from figuring out my own initiation into the industry.”

“There’s a lot of things you learn ten years after being in Hollywood, and you go, ‘Well, why didn’t they tell me that in year two?’ Because there’s an initiation process.” added McConaughey.

Per The New York Post:

In an interview with People, McConaughey shared that there’s an “initiation process” in the industry, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I, like anyone, have had my ups and downs,” he told the outlet.

The Texas native went on to explain that after having skin in the Hollywood game, he wondered why nobody had given him tips and tricks earlier on.

“There’s a lot of things you learn 10 years after being in Hollywood and you go, ‘Well, why didn’t they tell me that in year two?’ Because there’s an initiation process,” he told the outlet.

In recent years, McConaughey’s name has been mentioned as a potential candidate for Governor of Texas.

In 2022, Biden invited McConaughey to the White House briefing room to speak about gun violence legislation following the mass school shooting in McConaughey’s hometown, Uvalde, Texas.

UK Report: Children Are ‘Failed’ by Gender Clinics and Lack of Research and Evidence for Transgender Medical Interventions

Pediatrician and consultant Hilary Cass conducted a comprehensive and lengthy review of international research into gender medicine for children for NHS England.  She concludes that a lack of research and evidence on transgender medical interventions such as puberty blockers and body-altering surgeries is failing children.

“The pillars of gender medicine are ‘built on shaky foundations,’” Dr. Cass has said, and evidence was found to be severely lacking on the impacts of puberty blockers and hormone treatments on children.

Dr. Cass further stated that healthcare for people questioning their gender “needs to be improved across the board.” Still, there is a marked and essential distinction “between having a trans identity and medically transitioning.”

In a piece for the British Medical Journal (BMJ), Dr. Cass stated that while medicine is usually based on the pillars of integrating the best available research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values and preferences, she “found that in gender medicine those pillars are built on shaky foundations”.

In compiling the comprehensive report, she envisioned a six-month part-time review. But it became a “24-hour-a-day obsession to try to help improve things.”

Cass’s prior findings led to the banning of puberty blockers from children outside of clinical research in the UK.

Overview of key findings in the final report:

There is no simple explanation for the increase in the numbers of predominantly young people and young adults who have a trans or gender diverse identity, but there is broad agreement that it is a result of a complex interplay between biological, psychological and social factors. This balance of factors will be different in each individual.
There are conflicting views about the clinical approach, with expectations of care at times being far from usual clinical practice. This has made some clinicians fearful of working with gender-questioning young people, despite their presentation being similar to many children and young people presenting to other NHS services.
An appraisal of international guidelines for care and treatment of children and young people with gender incongruence found that that no single guideline could be applied in its entirety to the NHS in England.
While a considerable amount of research has been published in this field, systematic evidence reviews demonstrated the poor quality of the published studies, meaning there is not a reliable evidence base upon which to make clinical decisions, or for children and their families to make informed choices.
The strengths and weaknesses of the evidence base on the care of children and young people are often misrepresented and overstated in scientific publications and social debate.
The controversy surrounding the use of medical treatments has taken the focus away from what individualized care and treatment are intended to achieve for individuals seeking support from NHS gender services.
The rationale for early puberty suppression remains unclear, with weak evidence regarding the impact on gender dysphoria and mental or psychosocial health. The effect on cognitive and psychosexual development remains unknown.
The use of masculinising / feminising hormones in those under the age of 18 also presents many unknowns, despite their longstanding use in the adult transgender population. The lack of long-term follow-up data on those commencing treatment at an earlier age means we have inadequate information about the range of outcomes for this group.
Clinicians are unable to determine with any certainty which children and young people will go on to have an enduring trans identity.
For most young people, a medical pathway will not be the best way to manage their gender-related distress. For those young people for whom a medical pathway is clinically indicated, it is not enough to provide this without also addressing wider mental health and/or psychosocially challenging problems.
Innovation is important if medicine is to move forward, but there must be a proportionate level of monitoring, oversight and regulation that does not stifle progress, while preventing creep of unproven approaches into clinical practice. Innovation must draw from and contribute to the evidence base.

Author J.K. Rowling offered insight into the implications of the study.

Over the last four years, Hilary Cass has conducted the most robust review of the medical evidence for transitioning children that’s ever been conducted. Mere hours after it was released to the press and public, committed ideologues are doubling down. 1/6 https://t.co/J4fA4JYgkC

Whining by child mutilation fans led to a brutal community note on X.

Chair of the Chair of Scottish Labour Students, Emma Russell, wrote on X, “The Cass Review is a methodologically flawed, ideologically led study that isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. The Labour Party, and Wes Streeting, must stand against the erosion of trans rights and trans healthcare provisions. This is absolutely vital.”

Community notes hit back hard, “Far from being ‘methodologically flawed’ and ‘ideologically led’ the study by Dr Cass has been 4 years in the making and was conducted by a former President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. The poster is the idealogue.”
