This influx, while a testament to the enduring appeal of the American dream, brings with it a less visible but equally significant threat: the risk of infectious diseases entering the country. Historically, America has been a fortress against many major diseases that have devastated other parts of the world, thanks to stringent public health measures and robust screening processes. However, the current situation at the border marks a departure from these practices, leaving the nation vulnerable.

Dr. Harvey Risch, a seasoned epidemiologist, has voiced concerns over the inadequate health screening of immigrants crossing into the United States. His warnings are not unfounded; the lack of comprehensive health checks at the border stands in stark contrast to the rigorous examinations once conducted at Ellis Island, where immigrants were meticulously screened for contagious diseases before being allowed entry. This meticulous approach ensured that only healthy individuals could enter, thereby safeguarding the population from potential health crises.

Echoing Dr. Risch’s apprehensions, Dr. Marc Siegel from New York University’s Langone Health highlighted the presence of diseases such as tuberculosis, COVID-19, hepatitis A and B, among migrants. Furthermore, internist Dr. James Hodges has pointed out the emergence of drug-resistant forms of tuberculosis, exacerbated by open border policies. These insights underscore the pressing need for a reassessment of health management strategies at the border to mitigate the risks of disease transmission.

The comparison with Ellis Island’s stringent health checks is particularly poignant. Back then, doctors were vigilant for signs of contagious diseases like trachoma and tuberculosis, ensuring that anyone with questionable health was thoroughly examined. This historical precedent illustrates a time when public health was paramount, guiding immigration policies to protect both the newcomers and the resident population.

Today, however, the scenario is markedly different. The absence of even basic health screenings such as temperature checks for most immigrants entering through the southern border exposes a glaring vulnerability in the nation’s defense against global pathogens. This oversight not only endangers the health of the American populace but also strains the healthcare system, which must now brace for potential outbreaks of diseases previously kept at bay.

The implications of this oversight are far-reaching. For decades, Americans have enjoyed relative immunity from many infectious diseases, thanks to the country’s isolation and advanced healthcare infrastructure. However, the current laxity in border health protocols could erode this advantage, exposing the population to infections against which they have little to no immunity.

Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach. Strengthening health screening procedures at the border is imperative, as is bolstering the healthcare system’s capacity to manage and contain outbreaks. Moreover, there is a need for a balanced discourse that acknowledges the humanitarian aspects of migration while prioritizing public health and safety.

In conclusion, the United States stands at a crossroads. The choice is between maintaining an open-door policy without adequate health safeguards, thereby flirting with disaster, or reinstating stringent health checks to protect the nation’s health security. The lessons from Ellis Island serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in public health, especially in times of mass migration. As the country navigates this challenge, the decisions made today will shape the health landscape of tomorrow.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported on the University of Arkansas vs Ole Miss series:

The No. 1-ranked Razorbacks beat the Rebels 5-2 on Thursday night, 8-3 on Friday night and 7-4 on Saturday before combined crowds of 32,649 at Baum-Walker Stadium.

It was Arkansas’ first sweep of Ole Miss since Norm DeBriyn’s final season as the Razorbacks’ coach in 2002 when they took three games from the Rebels in Oxford, Miss.

DeBriyn’s Razorbacks also swept Ole Miss at home in 1997 and 1999.

Arkansas took two of three games from Ole Miss nine times previously under Van Horn — including a 2019 NCAA Super Regional at home — but never had won the first two games of a series against the Rebels.

This season the Razorbacks finally got the opportunity for a sweep going into Saturday’s finale.

“It was a really big game for us,” Van Horn said. “We talked to the guys a lot after the game [Friday night] about the opportunity to sweep.”

A local nurse and her husband,  a former US Navy sailor, have been arrested on multiple charges relating to sex crimes, including child pornography and bestiality.

The shocking discovery was made following the seizure of a phone belonging to the husband, who had been previously apprehended for indecent exposure.

On March 13, deputies from Precinct 3 responded to a distressing incident at an H-E-B on Rayford Road, just outside Houston., where William Mitchell Keen, 52, was allegedly caught following and masturbating near young children. He was promptly arrested on a charge of indecent exposure, KHOU reported.

The deputies not only identified the children Keen had been following, leading to further charges of indecency with a child by exposure, but a search warrant executed on Keen’s phone revealed a horrifying cache of child sex assault images.

On March 27, a more gruesome aspect of this case unraveled when Joely Keen, 53, a nurse by profession, was also arrested.

The couple was charged after law enforcement found dozens of disturbing photos and videos on William Keen’s phone, which included at least one video of Joely Keen engaged in “multiple sex acts” with their Great Dane.

The couple were arrested while their children, ages 18 and 10, along with three dogs, were placed in protective custody after police raided their residence.

“We don’t know what kind of environment they were exposed to on a regular basis. Maybe they weren’t exposed to anything. Maybe they were exposed to a lot,” Montgomery County Constables Lieutenant Ken Washington said.

A respected family nurse at Total Men’s Primary Care, Joely Keen, was terminated from her position on the day of her arrest. She faces charges of bestiality, while her husband is charged with possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony.

Both secured bail release, with Joely Keen’s set at $5,000 and William Mitchell Keen’s significantly higher at $50,000. However, they did not return to their home for several days, according to Daily Mail.

According to a recent report from ABC News, a bulletin from US intelligence agencies has raised alarms about the potential for radical groups within the United States to respond to calls for violence by ISIS.

This warning comes in the aftermath of a devastating attack in Moscow last month, where ISIS operatives targeted a concert hall, resulting in significant casualties.

The attack in Moscow’s Crocus City Hall, which occurred on March 22nd, claimed the lives of at least 144 people, including three children, and left more than 550 injured. Following the attack, ISIS issued a statement claiming responsibility and described the venue as a “big gathering for Christians in the Russian Moscow suburb.”

In an alarming development, ABC News has obtained a US intelligence bulletin suggesting that radical groups within the US could be motivated by ISIS’ recent announcements.

Law enforcement officials are particularly wary of the influence these calls might have on homegrown radicals or so-called “lone wolves,” who, despite not being official members of ISIS, may seek to emulate the Moscow atrocity.

In March, the NAACP’s president and CEO, Derrick Johnson, sent a letter to NCAA president Charlie Baker on Monday asking Black student-athletes to reconsider attending public colleges and universities in Florida.

Johnson’s letter was in response to dismantling Marxist Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs throughout the state.

In January, The Florida Board of Governors passed a regulation limiting public funding for DEI programs, defining them as “any program, campus activity, or policy that classifies individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, gender identity, or sexual orientation and promotes differential or preferential treatment of individuals on the basis of such classification.”

The Fix shared this list with the NAACP and asked for comment. The group has not responded to two emailed inquiries sent in the past three weeks. The Fix sent another email on April 4 to Press Secretary Alicia Mercedes and Public Relations Manager Chyna Fields, asking if anyone has decommitted. Neither responded to the email.

That number includes Jalil Bethea, who signed with the University of Miami, and is the sixth best player in the class of 2024, according to ESPN.

He’ll be joined next year by Austin Swartz, the 43rd best player. University of Florida has two of the top ten football players joining campus next year, both of whom are black.

A news search about “decommits” did not yield any proof of black athletes leaving Florida universities due to the NAACP boycott demand.

The Vatican issued a 20-page declaration on Monday declaring trans gender-affirming surgery a grave violation of human dignity.

The announcement put trans surgery on par with abortion.

The declaration has been in the works for 5 years and was approved by Pope Francis in late March.

The AP reported:

The Vatican on Monday declared gender-affirming surgery and surrogacy as grave violations of human dignity, putting them on par with abortion and euthanasia as practices that reject God’s plan for human life.

The Vatican’s doctrine office issued “Infinite Dignity,” a 20-page declaration that has been in the works for five years. After substantial revision in recent months, it was approved March 25 by Pope Francis, who ordered its publication.

In its most eagerly anticipated section, the Vatican repeated its rejection of “gender theory,” or the idea that one’s gender can be changed. It said God created man and woman as biologically different, separate beings, and said people must not tinker with that plan or try to “make oneself God.”

“It follows that any sex-change intervention, as a rule, risks threatening the unique dignity the person has received from the moment of conception,” the document said.

It distinguished between gender-affirming surgeries, which it rejected, and “genital abnormalities” that are present at birth or that develop later. Those abnormalities can be “resolved” with the help of health care professionals, it said.

Is China getting ready to take on the world superpower in battle, or is it just being a bully on the playground?

The question is keeping analysts up at night, especially in light of increasingly aggressive behavior from the People’s Republic of China.

On Sunday, the United States held its first joint naval exercises in the South China Sea with the Philippines, Japan and Australia.

The purported reason for the drills was to demonstrate the four countries’ “collective commitment to strengthen regional and international cooperation in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific,” according to a statement by the four nations’ defense chiefs on Saturday.

While the statement did not explicitly name China, Beijing’s increasing forcefulness in claiming territorial rights over the maritime region was widely viewed as the driving force behind the military exercise, according to the Japan Times.

However, it seems as if China did not like being left out of the picture.

On Sunday, Beijing made a surprise announcement that they were having military “joint naval and air combat patrols” on the same day, in the same contested waters, according to Voice of America.

To add insult to injury, Beijing’s People’s Liberation Army  Southern Theater Command released a statement that read, “All military activities that mess up the situation in the South China Sea and create hotspots are under control,” — a move that seemed aimed at belittling the cooperative efforts of the four nations.

The drill was a precursor to the first trilateral summit with the leaders of the Philippines and Japan, due to be held by President Joe Biden in a few days. China is reportedly high on the agenda with growing concerns over the disputed South China Sea, according to Voice of America.

Prior to the PLA’s combat patrol, the Chinese side issued several strong warnings against “Philippines’ provocations and its attempts to introduce external forces as well as Manila’s tricks of “playing victim,” according to the China Communist Party-owned Global Times.

The Global Times also claimed that on April 2, Chinese President Xi Jinping directly conveyed China’s stance on the South China Sea to U.S. President Joe Biden, stating that “China has indisputable sovereignty over Nansha Qundao and its adjacent waters, noting the U.S. is not a party to the South China Sea issue and should not intervene in matters between China and the Philippines.”

China claims sovereignty over most of the South China Sea, a claim rejected by the Philippines and other Southeast Asian nations, according to the Council on Foreign Relations.

The U.S. relies on free passage through the South China Sea for trade and military movement, CFR reports.

To strengthen its claims, China is building up islands in the area, adding military bases and airstrips.

Additionally, Xi Jinping has instructed China to brace for “dangerous storms,” in addition to stockpiling fuel and food supplies, and trying to insulate its economy against potential sanctions — moves that could signal preparations for a worst-case scenario, according to a recent essay by professors Michael Beckley and Hal Brands in ForeignPolicy.com.

Beckley and Brands contend that “many of Xi’s actions — the brutal zero-COVID lockdowns, the concentration camps in Xinjiang, the crushing of Hong Kong’s freedoms — betray ruthlessness.”

“Combined with the other changes China is undergoing, these forms of internal aggression should make us very nervous about the external aggression that may lie ahead,” they warn.

China undoubtedly has ambitions to expand its sphere of influence and displace the United States as the preeminent global power.

But its actions also seem driven by more immediate concerns, such as securing its territorial claims in the South China Sea and countering what it sees as foreign interference in its domestic affairs.

However, the threat is a real one.

China is no mere “desert country” that can be easily conquered or controlled. It is a military and economic powerhouse that would pose an immense challenge in any confrontation.

Given these stakes, the question is not whether China is preparing to take on the U.S. but whether the U.S. has the strength to withstand such an attack, should it come.

After two years of hibernation, CERN will fire up the world’s largest Large Hadron Collider during the solar eclipse in an attempt to uncover unknown scientific phenomena such as dark energy, dark matter, and what the universe consists of.

According to CERN, the solar eclipse will not affect the beams in the LHC.

CERN website states, “Although the solar eclipse on April 8th will not affect the beams in the LHC, the gravitational pull of the moon, like the tides, changes the shape of the LHC because the machine is so big.”

In 2012, CERN gained worldwide attention after  scientists reported finding the Higgs boson particle, also known as the ‘god particle.’

On its site, CERN describes the Large Hadron Collider as the “most powerful accelerator in the world, and it boosts particles, such as protons, which form all the matter we know. Accelerated to a speed close to that of light, they collide with other protons. These collisions produce massive particles, such as the Higgs boson or the top quark.”

There are a lot of legitimate reasons to criticize the United Nations. It is ineffective, expensive, threatens U.S. sovereignty, and impedes U.S. foreign policy objectives. But mostly, it is completely ineffective.

Earlier this month, North Korea tested a hypersonic weapon. Kim Jong Un is obsessed with developing nuclear missiles capable of striking South Korea, Japan, and the US. The United Nations expressed grave concern over the North Korean nuclear program but has been unable to slow it, much less stop it.

During COVID, China influenced the UN’s health body, the World Health Organization (WHO), to advocate for masks, lockdowns, school closures, and vaccines. The global economy still has not recovered, while children all over the world lost roughly two years of schooling. Teachers in the US are reporting that not only are children behind academically, but truancy has doubled compared to pre-COVID times, and classes are unruly.

Last December, Utah Sen. Mike Lee (R) introduced a bill to Congress calling for the United States to withdraw from the United Nations. The bill, titled the Disengaging Entirely from the United Nations Debacle (DEFUND) Act, proposes withdrawing from the World Health Organization (WHO), ceasing participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations, including providing funding, personnel, and equipment. Additionally, it would revoke diplomatic immunity in the U.S.

Among Senator Lee’s objections were the loss of sovereignty and the ongoing funding for the UN, which comes at the expense of US taxpayers. The US is the single largest funder of the UN, accounting for about one-third of the organization’s budget. In 2022, the US contributed $18 billion.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) supported the bill, citing corruption within the UN and the UN’s protection of Hamas in the current conflict with Israel. A further complaint was that China, a country the US has sanctioned for committing numerous human rights violations, particularly genocide against the Uyghur ethnic minority in Xinjiang, sat on the Human Rights Council.

Republicans have been criticizing the UN for years. Regarding a US pullout from the Human Rights Council, Trump’s Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said, “When organizations undermine our national interests and our allies, we will not be complicit.” He was attacked by Democrats, liberals, and the mainstream media, who apparently value globalism over the national interests of the United States. When the Council was first formed in 2006, then-President George W. Bush refused to join.

At that time, Representative Tom Lantos of California, the top Democrat on the House International Relations Committee, said, “This is a major retrenchment in America’s long struggle to advance the cause of human rights around the world, and it is a profound signal of U.S. isolation at a time when we need to work cooperatively with our Security Council partners.” The point Rep. Lantos is missing is that the US can be committed to human rights without joining the UNHRC.

The Brookings Institute said, “This telling remark illustrates that this administration’s North Star is toward a nostalgic past in which states had greater independence from international laws and multilateral diplomacy.” Countries, particularly the United States, having autonomy to join or not to join, to act without joining, is not a matter of nostalgia. It is a matter of choice. Throughout the decades, American Republicans have chosen for the U.S. to be independent and autonomous. Furthermore, there is the very real issue that when Washington joins these multinational organizations, the U.S. winds up footing the bill.

In 2018, Brookings said that US participation in the UNHCR was crucial, “investigating and condemning human rights abuses by some of the worst violators of human rights—Syria, Iran, North Korea, Myanmar, Sudan, Cambodia, Belarus, Burundi, and Eritrea, to name a few.”

Looking at this list, 18 years later, it is obvious how ineffective the UNHCR is. Syria remains a basket case of instability, Iran is the single most disruptive force in the Middle East, the Myanmar junta has bombed more civilians in the last two years than Russia has in Ukraine, Sudan is still facing civil war. Hun Sen, who ran Cambodia as his own pocketbook for 30 years, retired, transferring power to his son, Hun Manet. Belarus is a pariah state, one of Russia’s closest allies, and Eritrea is on the brink of war with Ethiopia, again. Burundi only has limited rebel activity now, with only 20 people killed in December. They also have border disputes with Rwanda, but have not declared war. So, maybe the globalists count that as a success.

Supporters of globalism cite the importance of the UNHCR in protecting LGBTQ and women’s rights. Meanwhile, about 30% of UN member countries are Muslim-majority countries where LGBTQ may be illegal, and where women have very few rights.

Ironically, Saudi Arabia, China, Russia, and Venezuela have all sat on the UNHCR despite being some of the most oppressive countries that regularly repress human rights. The UNHCR has done nothing to change the world’s worst regimes, guilty of gross human rights abuses: Algeria, China, Cuba, Egypt, Gaza, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, and Zimbabwe. Additionally, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt have sat on The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

The UN Security Council is similarly useless and farcical. China and Russia sit on the council and have veto power to stop UN actions against genocide or against China or Russia, two of the world’s biggest violators.

Trump tore up the Paris Agreement on climate change and the Iran nuclear deal. He even threatened to withdraw the US from the UN and NATO. While these may seem extreme actions, why is it so wrong for the US to act in the best interest of the US? Furthermore, why should the US continue to pay money and lives for institutions that fail to prevent wars or mitigate crises but which can infringe on US autonomy?

I was part of a group of approximately 300 individuals, yet I was the only one who pulled Officer Edwards to safety.

Despite being offered an opportunity to betray President Trump, I chose to remain steadfast. Unfortunately, in the aftermath of these events, I have been denied crucial medical treatments and surgeries, resulting in the loss of full use of my left arm and vision in my right eye. I suffer from longstanding blood clots, which are now a lifelong affliction.

However, I don’t write this letter to garner sympathy. Instead, I wish to inspire resilience in the face of adversity. No matter what life throws at you, you have a choice. You can either wallow in self-pity, or you can look in the mirror and challenge yourself to rise above your circumstances. I am currently in a situation where I may never see a sunrise again, or feel the sand under my feet. But I refuse to feel sorry for myself. I firmly believe that where there’s a will, there’s a way.

I have been placed in a cell without a toilet, but I have managed to use my ingenuity to communicate and receive necessities.
