Kraken’ Lawyer Sidney Powell Completely Vindicated After Democrat Judges Dismiss Disciplinary Effort by State Bar of Texas

Credit: Defending The Republic

Dallas attorney Sidney Powell, known for her vigorous legal efforts to challenge the fraudulent 2020 election on behalf of President Donald Trump, has been fully vindicated by an appellate court decision.

The Fifth District of Texas Court of Appeals in Dallas, led by a three-judge panel, all Democrats, concluded that the State Bar of Texas’ arguments were without merit.

“The Dallas Court of Appeals has affirmed the Texas state court’s dismissal of the Texas Bar’s case against Powell. After three years of litigation, the Court of Appeals held the Bar had no evidence Powell violated any disciplinary rule in filing four federal lawsuits in the aftermath of the 2020 election,” Sidney Powell’s Defending the Republic said in a statement.

The State Bar of Texas Commission for Lawyer Discipline had filed a complaint against Powell, accusing her of violating several Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct.

These allegations stemmed from lawsuits Powell filed in late November 2020.

Powell became the center of media attention in November 2020 for filing multiple lawsuits challenging the certification of election results in critical battleground states, famously vowing to “release the Kraken” in her crusade to expose the election fraud.

The State Bar of Texas later contended that Powell’s lawsuits were ‘frivolous,’ based on ‘unfounded claims’ of widespread election fraud. Moreover, they alleged that Powell knowingly attached “altered” evidence to her legal filings.

However, Powell refuted these allegations, arguing that the documents were provided by other counsel involved in the case and that any discrepancies were not a result of her direct actions.

Powell argued that any discrepancies were inadvertent, attributing the errors to oversight under pressure. Her defense argued that these were honest mistakes made in the rush of massive legal filings.

The appellate court meticulously reviewed the claims, evidence, and procedural history of the case. In particular, it scrutinized the Commission for Lawyer Discipline’s handling and presentation of evidence in its summary judgment response.

The court noted discrepancies and deficiencies in the Commission’s submissions, including mislabeled exhibits and a lack of specific citations to evidence purported to support their claims.

Upon evaluation, the appellate court found no merit in the Commission’s argument that Powell knowingly filed frivolous lawsuits or made false statements related to the election litigation.

It pointed out the absence of evidence proving that Powell had actual knowledge of the falsity of any statements made in her filings. Moreover, the court determined that the Commission failed to meet its burden of proof regarding the alleged disciplinary rule violations involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation.

Justice Dennise Garcia, writing for the court, emphasized the importance of presenting clear and specific evidence to support claims in disciplinary proceedings.

“The Bar employed a ‘scattershot’ approach to the case, which left this court and the trial court ‘with the task of sorting through the argument to determine what issue ha[d] actually been raised,’” Justice Garcia wrote for the unanimous panel. “Having done so, the absence of competent summary judgment compels our conclusion that the Bar failed to meet its summary judgment burden.”

While Wednesday’s ruling represents a vindication for Powell in this matter, the battle is not over.

Pro-Trump attorney Sidney Powell pleaded guilty in the Georgia RICO case against Trump in exchange for reduced charges. Dominion Voting has filed a $1.3 billion lawsuit against Sidney Powell, who has been fighting tooth and nail against election fraud.

Black Voter in Philadelphia: ‘We Need Trump Back Because He Got Things Done’ (VIDEO)

The 2024 election feels very different than the 2020 election and we see examples of changing attitudes every day.

Addison Smith of Newsmax recently spoke to a black voter in Philadelphia, a famously blue city, who explained why the country needs to reelect Trump in 2024.

Trump is making huge gains with minority voters in this election cycle and this voter does a great job of explaining why this is happening. No one has confidence in Joe Biden’s ability to lead the country.

RedState has details:

Smith also spoke with a guy who broke it down in terms that would resonate with everyone on Thursday in Philadelphia. He pointed out how they were having the event there for Biden and that there were a lot of Americans “struggling,” but Biden was helping illegal aliens, “When are you going to help American people?” he asked.

The voter then went into something that isn’t said enough now in media: that Biden made us “look weak” with his failed withdrawal from Afghanistan. “Now people don’t take us serious,” he said. “They look at us like a joke.”

“On top of that, you’re not mentally capable of running the country, bro,” he said to Biden.

He was asked by the Newsmax reporter, “Who is?”

“Trump,” the voter declared. “He’s quick to push buttons, but that’s what we need. We need a hard fist for this country…Biden, he’s going through Alzheimer’s; he’s a joke. Trump? He don’t play around, man; he gets things done. You see action, man. We don’t need that POS in the office.” He then apologized for cursing.

“We need Trump back because he got things done, and we see results,” the man exclaimed.

That should scare the hell out of the Democrats. Their fear mongering and slander against Trump just isn’t working this time.

Is Putin Bent on Conquering Europe?

Is Putin Bent on Conquering Europe?

It is important to not merely accept axiomatically that Putin, like all autocrats, is bent on aggression and expansion.

Credit: Asatur Yesayants

NATO countries must “help Ukraine push Russia out of its territory and end this unprovoked aggression,” U.S. Ambassador to NATO Julianne Smith said on April 2, “because if they do not succeed, of course, the concern is that Russia will feel compelled to keep going.”

Smith is not the first to warn that Ukraine is the dam that is holding back a Russian conquest of Europe. U.S. President Joe Biden told Congress on December 6 that “If Putin takes Ukraine, he won’t stop there…. He’s going to keep going. He’s made that pretty clear.” Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin warned that “Putin will not stop at Ukraine.” And Secretary of State Antony Blinken explained that Putin has “made clear that he’d like to reconstitute the Soviet empire.” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg says that, “if Putin wins in Ukraine, there is real risk that his aggression will not end there.” On March 28, Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, insisted that “this aggression, and Putin’s army, can come to Europe.” He said that “at the moment, it’s us, then Kazakhstan, then Baltic states, then Poland, then Germany. At least half of Germany.”

“If Ukraine loses the war,” he said on April 7, “other countries will be attacked. This is a fact.”

Aside from the value these warnings have in convincing the public—and the U.S. Congress—to continue sending money and weapons to Ukraine, the insistence that Putin’s ambitions are not limited to Ukraine but have their sights on Europe is based on two historical myths.

The first is that autocrats by their nature desire conquest and the expansion of their empires. “We have also seen many times in history,” the U.S. ambassador to NATO said, “where if a dictator is not stopped, or an authoritarian leader, they keep going.”

Inconveniently, this axiom is not borne out by history. Nor does the U.S. apply it to several of its contemporary friends; Washington does not assume that the autocratic rulers of Saudi Arabia or Egypt are bent on conquering the Middle East or Africa.

The historical record shows that, in his over two decades in power, Putin has not “kept going.” When Russian forces have been deployed, they have been limited to specific objectives when they could have easily kept going, as in Georgia in 2008 and Ukraine in 2014, when military conquest could have been accomplished with ease.

The second is that Putin has said as much. Putin is often quoted as saying that “people in Russia say that those who do not regret the collapse of the Soviet Union have no heart.” The second part of his statement is quoted less often: “And those that do regret it have no brain.”

The same selective use of quotations is applied to Putin’s comment that “we should acknowledge that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a major geopolitical disaster.” Though quoted as proof of Putin’s nostalgia for the Soviet Union and his desire to reestablish it, the strategy requires lifting the quotation from a context that makes it clear that the disaster Putin is referring to is not the absence of the Soviet Union but, primarily, the economic hardship that followed in the wake of its break up. He bemoaned that “individual savings were depreciated” and oligarchs “served exclusively their own corporate interests.” He remembered that “mass poverty began to be seen as the norm.”

There are at least three points that need to be factored into Western calculations of Putin’s ambitions that should temper the confidence of the forecast that he is bent on conquering Europe and on war with NATO.

The first is that there is no evidence for it. After her warning that Russia will “keep going,” Smith admitted that “we do not have indicators or warnings right now that a Russian war is imminent on NATO territory, and I really want to be clear about that.”

The Baltic countries complain that their warnings of the expansionist threat posed by Russia have been dismissed by the West. “For years,” Polish foreign minister Radosław Sikorski says, the West was “patronizing us about our attitude: ‘Oh, you know, you over-nervous, over-sensitive Central Europeans are prejudiced against Russia.’” Estonia’s former President Hendrik Ilves complained that the West does “Russia policy without consulting people who know far more about Russia.”

Smith responded, “I don’t want to give our friends in the Baltic states the impression that somehow war is coming to NATO territory overnight. We take it seriously, but we do not see this to be an imminent threat.”

The second point is that the Western statements of Putin’s ambitions are not consistent with the historical record of Putin’s statements of his ambitions.

Putin has said that “the Ukraine crisis is not a territorial conflict, and I want to make that clear…. The issue is much broader and more fundamental and is about the principles underlying the new international order.”

Those fundamental principles have consistently included a guarantee that Ukraine will remain neutral and not join NATO, a guarantee that NATO won’t turn Ukraine into an armed anti-Russian bridgehead on its border, and assurances of protection of the rights of Russophile Ukrainians.

There is nothing on the historical record to suggest that conquering Europe or confronting NATO have ever been among the stated goals of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This point has been conceded by Ukraine and by NATO. Davyd Arakhamia, who led the Ukrainian negotiating team at the Istanbul talks, says that Russia was “prepared to end the war if we agreed to, as Finland once did, neutrality, and committed that we would not join NATO.” He says that a guarantee that Ukraine would not join NATO was the “key point” for Russia. Most importantly, Zelensky has said that the promise not to join NATO “was the first fundamental point for the Russian Federation” and that “as far as I remember, they started a war because of this.”

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg recently conceded that a “promise [of] no more NATO enlargement…was a precondition for not invading Ukraine.” When NATO refused to discuss such a promise, Putin “went to war to prevent NATO—more NATO—close to his borders.” Stoltenberg concluded that “Putin invaded a European country to prevent more NATO.”

The third point is that the historical record suggests that Putin went to war in Ukraine, not as a step toward war with NATO, but to prevent a war with NATO.

“Listen attentively to what I am saying,” Putin said just three weeks before the invasion. “It is written into Ukraine’s doctrines that it wants to take Crimea back, by force if necessary…. Suppose Ukraine is a NATO member…. Suppose it starts operations in Crimea, not to mention Donbass for now. This is sovereign Russian territory. We consider this matter settled. Imagine that Ukraine is a NATO country and starts these military operations. What are we supposed to do? Fight against the NATO bloc? Has anyone given at least some thought to this? Apparently not.”

Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine “to prevent NATO…close to his borders” may have been motivated by concern that a Ukraine in NATO that attacked Donbas or Crimea would draw Russia into a war with NATO.

Just three days before launching the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Putin said that “the reality we live in” is that if Ukraine is “accepted into…NATO, the threat against our country will increase because of Article 5” since “there is a real threat that they will try to take back the territory they believe is theirs using military force. And they do say this in their documents, obviously. Then the entire North Atlantic Alliance will have to get involved.”

If Putin went to war in Ukraine to prevent a war with NATO, then it makes little sense that he would use the war in Ukraine as a means to start a war with NATO.

Since the claim that, if Russia wins in Ukraine, Putin will keep going and bring war to Europe and NATO, is wielded to justify continuing the fight instead of encouraging a diplomatic solution, it is important to not merely accept axiomatically that Putin, like all autocrats, is bent on aggression and expansion. The frequently made warning rests uncertainly on myths and misreading of the historical record that, when examined, recommend a less confident forecast of Putin’s intentions.

Is Gretchen Whitmer’s Surrogacy Law Too Extreme for Voters?

Is Gretchen Whitmer’s Surrogacy Law Too Extreme for Voters?

Michigan is the latest state to legalize womb rental in the guise of family-friendly policy.

Three weeks ago, Michigan became one of the most friendly places in the country for commercial baby-making. It is no surprise, under its current Democratic leadership in the legislature and executive, that Michigan chose to defend the surrogacy industry and LGBT special interest groups over women and children. It is, however, a monumental change for the state, the true ramifications of which may only be visible in years to come. Overriding a 1988 law that made any form of contractual surrogacy arrangement punishable by fine and/or jail time, the new bill permits all forms of commercial surrogacy that align with “best practices,” as defined by an unelected medical and legal establishment.

Money and identity politics are strong medicine, perhaps the two most effective motivators for politicians today. It is no surprise that Michigan went with the flow. The surrogacy industry is projected to be worth $129 billion in the next 10 years, up from $14 billion in 2022. Legalizing it will bring the Wolverine State an influx of taxable dollars. At the same time, the LGBT lobby has moved well past its “just let us marry” phase to decrying anything less than fertile women renting out their wombs as bigotry. Every gay couple, unmarriageable single, or man in drag has a right to play house with real, live human souls; the only possible injustice is how much it costs them to pay for all the parts, or so we are told. A third incentive, no less influential, is that old blackjack of the spirit: peer pressure. In every state in the nation, with the exception of Louisiana and Nebraska, commercial surrogacy contracts are either protected by law or assumed to be legal because no statute explicitly bans them.

Michigan falling to the surrogacy lobby is so consequential because of commercial surrogacy, paying women to rent out their wombs. Though surrogacy advocates say women gestate children for others out of the kindness of their hearts, the industry all but disappears when women are not permitted to be paid for the use of their wombs. Thus, while Louisiana and Nebraska technically permit a few very narrow instances of unpaid surrogacy, the effect is close to a total ban.

Prior to April, only Michigan banned surrogacy outright. The fall of this last symbolic hurdle is a harbinger of what happens when such weighty questions as the power to create children at will—and destroy them, for that matter—are left to the states to decide. As Stephanie Jones, founder of the innocuously named Michigan Fertility Alliance, put it, “We hope Michigan can serve as an example for other states where outdated laws still leave families vulnerable.”

It may be years before we see the full effect. Gestational surrogacy, in which the egg is purchased from a third party or extracted from one of the paying couples, rather than supplied by the gestating surrogate mother, is still very new. As such, those born of such arrangements are mostly too young for long-term effects to be clearly assessed. Women like Jessica Kern, however, born of “traditional” surrogacy, in which the surrogate mother is also biologically related to the child, have already spoken out about the childhood trauma they endured as a result of their confused genetic makeup and upbringing. Predictably, like adopted children, surrogate children often wrestle with feelings of confusion, disillusionment, depression, or anger over their origins.

This hasn’t stopped surrogacy advocates from calling Michigan’s new surrogacy provisions both “family-focused” and “safe.” What is meant by “family-focused” is that anyone may now purchase and rent the materials needed to purchase a baby—no background checks, home checks, or personal references required. What is meant by “safe” is that those who want to become parents in this way are finally allowed to put their names on the birth certificate even when, in some cases, their contribution to the creation of a new human was exclusively financial.

It is easy to see how such logic merges naturally with another fight around reproduction that is happening in countless other states this year, the fight over a right to family destruction. Where in vitro fertilization provides a positive means of control over childbearing, abortion provides the negative. Where surrogacy demands multiple human embryos be created that the fittest might survive, abortion provides a tidy disposal for the extra babies. And, of course, both abortion and surrogacy are hot button issues which politicians at the national level have thus far preferred to leave to local leaders, or direct democracy, to decide.

The powers of creating life and destroying it are far too dangerous to be left to the whims of Big Pharma–backed medical associations and those who stand to benefit from couples using expensive, invasive procedures rather than cheaper, more natural ones.

100 Days to Chaos: Citizens of Paris Dread the Upcoming Summer Olympic Games

After Globalist poster boy, French President Emmanuel Macron spent years on end trying to solve all the problems of this world but the ones facing his Republic, he now has a steep price to pay, as the Olympic Games arrive in less than 100 days – and most Parisians are dreading it.

You may think that’s an exaggeration, and feel like there’s little to fear from Olympics Games held in ‘romantic’ Paris – but that lovely city basically only exists in our hearts and memories. Look at how is life now in the metropolis:

How the holidays go: Emmanuel Macron and France Celebrate ‘Only’ 745 Vehicles Torched on New Year’s Eve

Security: One Dead, Two Injured in Paris Terror Attack – Islamist Was Shouting “Allahu Akbar” During Attack Near Eiffel Tower

Health Issues: Bloodsuckers: Paris Is Infested With Bedbugs – Authorities Seek to Control Situation Ahead of Next Year’s Summer Olympics

Policing: In the Midst of His Constant War Mongering, France’s Macron Asks Allied Countries for 2 THOUSAND OFFICERS to Help Police the Summer Olympic Games in Paris

Riots: While Macron Warmongers, France Is Still a Chaos, as 50 People Attack Police Station in Olympic Venue Area of Paris (VIDEO)

Hate crimes: Antisemitism on the Rise: Mirrored Attacks in Zurich and Paris Put Swiss and French Authorities on Alert, Leave Jewish Community on Edge

Social unrest: WATCH: Angry French Farmers Invade Paris Agricultural Fair, Clash With Police, Chant for Macron To Resign

So as the 100 day mark fly us by, the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics make many locals grumble that ‘it will mostly be an inconvenience’.

Maybe if Macron was not so worried to lecturing Brazil about how to protect its forest ort Russia how to protect its National Security, he could have taken care of business at home – which he did not.

Sur enough, there is a well-earned stereotype of ‘the grumpy French’. And also, there is the fact that months of building and road renovations for the Games have clogged traffic. But it’s not just that.

Reuters reported:

“A poll last month showed only over a third of French felt enthusiastic about the global sporting event that will start on July 26.

And with the countdown switching to 100 days, many in Paris said they would leave the city, if they could, or work from home, staying away from the sporting events.

‘Am I excited about the Games? No, sorry, I know it’s not the right response but I’m not. I’m not excited at all’, said 57-year-old consulting director Carole Gabriel-Jullien, who lives in the suburbs and plans to work from home during the Olympics.

‘I’m very worried’, she said. ‘When we see how messy daily life already is in Paris, with all these additional people coming for the Olympics, it will be hell’.”

The Olympics’ organizers say to the four winds that they are confident the mood in Paris and beyond will improve as the Games near.

But the security risks are not ‘worrying in vain’, since the threat of terrorist attacks have led the French government to raise its security alert to its highest level.

“Francois Urbain, a 29-year-old office manager, said he will also leave the French capital. ‘I don’t think the city of Paris will be ready’ to handle the Olympics, he said.”

Even the more optimistic say that it will all go well – as long as the unions don’t go on strike.

Radical Lawless Judge Merchan Seated Juror Who Was Arrested for Destroying/Vandalizing Conservative Political Signs

Radical Trump-hating NY Judge Juan Merchan

The search for impartial jurors continued on Thursday in the New York City lawfare case of President Donald Trump in the courtroom of conflicted far-left Judge Juan Merchan. A fresh pool of 96 Manhattan residents entered the courtroom earlier today. A significant number of these potential jurors, 48 in total, were immediately excused after admitting to biases against the former president. An additional nine were dismissed for undisclosed reasons.

FOX News reported today that Trump-hating Judge Juan Merchan seated a juror who was arrested in the 90’s for destroying/vandalizing conservative political posters.

FOX News reporter: This has to do with something that very well could have been the fact that this juror may have been arrested back in the 1990s conducting some sort of political vandalism in some sort of posters on the right and it was not revealed. He did not remember it and did not include it.

This is a RIGGED trial – with no crimes.

Democrat Mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass Wants Wealthy Residents to Buy Housing for Homeless People

Cities around the country are dealing with a homelessness problem that has exploded in recent years. In Los Angeles, California, the problem is severe, with thousands upon thousands of people living in tents on sidewalks.

Democrat Mayor Karen Bass has an idea for solving the city’s problem. She wants wealthy residents to buy housing for the homeless. Good luck with that.

Does she really think that Hollywood liberals like Rob Reiner are going to put their money where there mouths are? Unlikely.

Townhall reported:

Here’s How One Democrat Mayor Wants to ‘Solve’ Homelessness

On Monday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) urged wealthy constituents to buy housing for homeless people in the city.

Bass made the remarks as she announced the LA4LA Campaign, which is aimed at creating housing for the city’s growing homeless population. According to the Los Angeles Times, over 45,000 homeless people live in the city…

So far, Bass’ Inside Safe program has moved over 21,000 homeless people into temporary housing, according to her website. In her remarks, Bass announced the new initiative and asked “the most fortunate” to help fund housing for the homeless.

“We are asking the most fortunate Angelenos to participate in this effort, with personal, private sector and philanthropic funds – to help us acquire more properties, lower the cost of capital and speed up housing,” Bass explained. “This is the mission of our new capital campaign, LA4LA.”…

“LA4LA can be a sea change for Los Angeles – an unprecedented partnership to confront this emergency,” Bass continued. “An example of disrupting the status quo to build a new system to save lives.”

FOX News covered the absurdity of this last night.

— Trace Gallagher (@tracegallagher) April 18, 2024

Los Angeles is pretty much doomed at this point.

A year ago Karen Bass was convinced 95% of the homeless in Los Angeles would accept housing.

After $67,000,000 and 2,000 dead, it turns out that number was only 0.5%

Bass is now looking for a new revenue stream to fund the gigantic failure that is “Inside Safe”. pic.twitter.com/AgiBlyuCdY

— Kevin Dalton (@TheKevinDalton) April 17, 2024

Lyin’ Karen Bass @MayorOfLA told *national news* that she could get 95 percent of the homeless to accept taxpayer-provided housing

1.5 years later, we now see that a mere fraction actually accept housing; many want the lawlessness and drug access that LA provides https://t.co/Nx0aLe144R

— KarenBassProgressReport (@KBassProgReport) April 18, 2024

Despite all of this, the residents of LA will keep voting for leftists. It makes no sense.

Patriot and Actor Jon Voight Makes the Case for Bringing Trump Back in 2024 (VIDEO)

Actor and American patriot Jon Voight has released a new video in which he makes a strong case for reelecting Donald Trump in 2024.

Voight is one of those rare Hollywood celebrities who lives openly as a conservative and Trump supporter. He has publicly supported Trump for years now.

In the video, Voight addresses many of the issues that are top concerns for voters this year.

Breitbart News has a partial transcript:

“Bring back what was lost,” Voight said in a two-minute video posted to his X social media account. “We must bring back the safety of this great country. We must bring back our greatest achievements that once were blooming.

“My friends of all colors, all religions, all nations, we must remember [this] truth: one love, under God. This life is full of injustice, this land of Israel is in danger, the land of the free, the USA, is in danger.

“Let us all come together and make these countries safe again. We must stop this war. We must stop this darkness. This negative plague that is lingering. How? Vote, for the only president that can save these countries once and for all.

“Let all nations bloom, let them shine. My friends, the only way, President Donald J. Trump. He and only he can take this hardship and turn it into a magnificent triumph. He can wipe out this swamp and bring glory, bring justice. And he will help save Israel and warn these enemies that they will pay the price of their injustice, for their disgraceful actions.”

Voight added, “Justice will prevail, and peace for all nations will come to be” should Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, get elected in November.

TV Host Benny Johnson Robbed at Oakland In-N-Out While Shooting on Restaurant’s Closure Due to Rampant Crimes

Conservative political commentator and YouTuber Benny Johnson and his crew were the victims of theft in the very place they were spotlighting for a documentary on California’s rising crime rates.

The incident occurred on Wednesday as the team was working on a piece about the closure of an In-N-Out Burger location due to rampant robberies.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Oakland, California, is losing their only In-N-Out Burger restaurant due to the city’s ongoing crime problem. The restaurant is profitable, but they can’t deal with the constant armed robberies, car break-ins, and more.

Crime in Oakland has been on the rise for months on end. The city has a Soros-backed DA, Pamela Price, who is currently facing a recall effort.

Johnson’s project aimed to shed light on the alarming trend of rising crime rates in California and their toll on local businesses, including the famed In-N-Out Burger.

Ironically, as Johnson and his team were documenting these very issues, they themselves fell prey to the crime they sought to expose.

“I Just Got ROBBED At In-N-Out Burger,” Johnson lamented on X.

The robbery unfolded in broad daylight, around 2 p.m., catching the crew off-guard. According to Johnson’s producer, ALX, who was in the vehicle at the time, an assailant smashed the car window in an attempt to snatch a bag.

“I was in the car when it happened, the rest of the team was probably about 20 feet away. A car pulled up, someone jumped out, smashed the window and tried to take a bag, I had to rip it from his hands and told him to “f*ck off.” Oakland is a third world country,” Alx wrote.

New York Democrat Arrested and Charged with Felony After Faking Signatures on Election Petition, Including Those of Dead People

Peekskill Common Council member and Housing Authority Board member Rob Scott, 44, has been charged with forging signatures on his election petition in a desperate bid to secure a spot on the ballot for the Westchester County Board of Legislators, Peekskill Herald reported.

Scott’s attempt to challenge incumbent County Legislator Colin Smith for the Democratic nomination in last year’s primary came to an abrupt halt when the County Board of Elections invalidated a significant portion of his petition signatures.

Of the 531 signatures Scott submitted, 217 were deemed fraudulent, leaving him well below the required threshold to qualify for the ballot.

“This morning, the City of Peekskill learned Councilman Rob Scott was charged by the Westchester County District Attorney with filing false documents. The City understands that this is a serious charge, and that information is currently developing. The City will address and comment once more information becomes available,” according to the press release.

According to allegations, Scott knowingly submitted petitions with forged signatures, including those of individuals who later confirmed they had never signed any document for Scott. This discovery emerged from an investigation initiated by the DA’s office after receiving complaints from citizens about the forged signatures.

The matter has escalated from a political embarrassment to a criminal case, with Scott facing felony charges for filing false documents.

According to Iohud, County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that Scott had been arrested and charged with offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, Penalties for this Class E felony carry a potential jail term of four years.

Scott’s arraignment is scheduled for April 30.

Scott said at the time he was stunned to learn that people had emerged to state they had not signed the petitions that he had witnessed.

“This is like stuff you see on TV, you know?” Scott said. “It’s like stuff you see in the movies.”

Scott’s four-year term on the Peekskill Common Council runs through 2025. Smith called on Scott to resign.

“Although I am disheartened at the news of Councilman Scott’s arrest, I applaud the district attorney’s office for taking a strong stance on public integrity,” said Smith. “Our elected officials must be held to a higher standard. Let this arrest serve as a warning to those who would attempt to subvert the rule of law for their own selfish gain that such self-serving behavior will not be tolerated. Councilman Scott should immediately resign.”

Peekskill Mayor Vivian McKenzie said it’s too early to take that stand, just a day after Scott’s arrest and before the councilman deals with the criminal charges.

“I believe that the judicial process should play out as intended and I will withhold any judgement until I have more information,” she said.
