The hardline Saeed Jalili and the reformist Masoud Pezeshkian are headed to a second-round runoff election after no candidate secured a winning share of the vote in Friday’s Iranian presidential election.

Per the Associated Press, Pezeshkian, who favors a softer approach to the West, took 10.4 million votes to Jalili’s 9.4 million in the lowest-turnout election of the Islamic Republic’s history. The remaining 4.7 million votes were split between other candidates or voided. Jalili, a former nuclear negotiator for the late President Ibrahim Raisi, is expected to pull ahead after the conservative vote consolidates in next Friday’s runoff.

The election comes as the Israel–Gaza war inflames regional tensions. In April, Iran launched its first-ever direct missile attack against Israel in retaliation for an Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate in Syria. The elections, occasioned by Raisi’s death in a May 19 helicopter crash, appear to come on the eve of expanded Israeli operations against Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah.

Just as I displayed leadership on that fateful day in January, pulling cops to safety and mediating conflicts, I made the decision not to enter the building when my wife, Rachel Genco, was affected by CS gas. My duty as a man was to protect her.

From that day forward, every experience I went through brought me to this pivotal moment. We must redefine our approach to fighting the system. The answer lies not in military force but in a more practical and realistic strategy. As the Gateway Pundit reported, Biden’s disastrous debate performance has demoralized the entire Democrat Party and set off an outright panic. Now we learn that this despair has infiltrated the Biden White House.

Fox News shared a video of CNN senior White House correspondent Kayla Tausche dropping a juicy report to short-tempered host Kasie Hunt on Friday. It turns out that the mood at the White House is abysmal, with the staffer group chats being particularly ugly.

Many staffers are so sickened by Biden’s downfall that they are refusing to show up for work at the White House, claiming they prefer to commiserate from home.
Yes, these snowflakes can’t handle adversity so they are hiding out in their bedrooms.

TAUSCHE: The Biden campaign just believes they need a little bit of time for the dust to settle and to move forward,” Tausche told CNN host Kasie Hunt. “They plan for the president to stay in the race and to debate again in September.

But I‘ve been talking to a bunch of rank-and-file at the White House, and the mood inside the building is not good. They described the tone of the group chats among staffers as abysmal and ugly.

They say everyone is deflated, and a lot of people chose to work from home today, saying, ‘We‘re just commiserating, and we didn‘t want to do that at a desk.’

Just a reminder: your tax dollars pay these babies’ salaries. No one should buy their claims that they are supposedly working from home, either.

When one combines this latest news with Biden’s dementia, it is understandably why many believe this election is the last chance to save America. One can only imagine what moves our enemies will make while the “president” continues to deteriorate and his staff slacks off.

The White House did not respond to Fox News for comment.

Those of us of a certain age will remember an imperishable scene from The Princess Bride, where Mandy Patinkin’s Inigo Montoya advises Wallace Shawn’s Vizzini: “You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.”

A similar thought came to mind last week when, for what seemed the umpteenth time, the Chairman of House Intelligence Committee Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), this time in an appearance on Bloomberg’s Balance of Power, treated viewers to a lesson on the continuing relevance of the Cuban Missile Crisis—particularly as it relates to what Turner sees as the imminent threat posed to the U.S. by Russia’s alleged plans to launch a nuclear weapon into space.

For the past six months Turner has been tirelessly sounding the alarm over what he says is a dereliction of duty on the part of the Biden administration in addressing this threat—despite the fact that, in May, Russia introduced a resolution in the UN Security Council to ban all space-based weapons.  At a talk at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in June, Turner said,

Imagine how different the world would have been if Kennedy had allowed Khrushchev to place nuclear weapons in Cuba…Europe would not be free. The United States would have been too fearful to challenge Russia in Europe.

In Turner’s telling of the tale, had Kennedy acquiesced in 1962, “Europe would not be free” today. This, at a minimum, betrays a great lack of understanding of how and why the Cold War ended.

Turner, by mentioning the October Crisis as a precedent to deal with the threat (if it in fact exists) of Russian nuclear weapons in space, is pointing an already overly hawkish administration in a dangerous direction. 

As President John F. Kennedy and only a few members of the Executive Committee (ExComm), which was set up to act as an advisory council to Kennedy during the crisis, recognized right away, Khrushchev’s plan to place nuclear warheads in Cuba was above all a political problem for the United States—a problem of perception. After all, a nuclear warhead, whether launched from Soviet Russia, Europe or Cuba would have the same catastrophic result.

But Turner seems to be implying that, should Russia attempt to launch a nuclear weapons program in space (a move prohibited by the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, to which Russia is a party), Biden and his team of second-raters must attempt to do as Kennedy did. 

But do what exactly? You can’t enact the equivalent of a naval quarantine on space-bound warheads. Is Turner suggesting we bomb the launch pads? The space shuttles? Take out the missiles themselves? That last option was on the table back in October 1962—indeed, it was favored by a majority of the ExComm—but thanks to Kennedy’s prudent statesmanship, it was not pursued. If it had been, the world would be a far different place today—after all, the Soviet warheads in Cuba were already operational, a fact not known to the President or to ExComm at the time.

The answer we need lies in compliance—by us and by them—with existing treaties and in the shared principle of non-proliferation. 

Turner also seems to forget what actually brought the Missile Crisis to a denouement. It wasn’t a question of the Soviets “blinking first.” The crisis ended thanks to a negotiated settlement that included Kennedy’s pledge not to invade Cuba and a (then secret) swap—our Jupiter missiles in Turkey for theirs in Cuba.

Turner is right to be concerned about the “nuclearization” of outer space, but his implied solution—a Cuban-style stand-of—is dangerously misconceived, especially at a time when the wondrously reckless Biden policy of giving Kiev almost everything it wants (up to and including the wherewithal to bomb parents and children on Crimean beaches) is pushing the NATO–Russia proxy war to perhaps its most dangerous moment yet.

American University Professor Peter Kuznick tells me, “Turner’s scare tactics appear to be intended to further demonize the Russians and lay the groundwork for giving Ukraine all the enhanced capabilities it desires. So in that sense Turner may be correct for the wrong reasons.” 

Kuznick, who is the founder and director of the Nuclear Studies Institute at American, believes that “we may be on the verge of another Cuban Missile Crisis, but one that has been provoked not only by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but by the latest rounds of NATO actions in escalating the Ukrainian war to the point where a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO does occur and World War III becomes not a nightmarish possibility but an end to civilization as we know it.”

Indeed, we are fast approaching the point where a nuclear worst-case scenario is no longer inconceivable. Indeed, there are very real reasons to worry about a nuclear crisis in the near to medium term. They just aren’t quite the ones Congressman Turner thinks they are.

Pretty much everyone in media had a stunned reaction to Biden at the CNN presidential debate, and Megyn Kelly is no exception.

Megyn described watching the event in horror with family and friends and suggests that Biden is now finished, that his campaign is over whether he realizes it or not.

She may have a point.

I want to talk to you directly about what we just saw on stage in Atlanta. In my view, it is over for Joe Biden. His presidential campaign came to an end tonight, whether he knows it or not.

There will be meetings tonight, first thing tomorrow, and for the foreseeable future among Democratic Party leaders about how to get him off the ticket. Already, we are seeing some reaction come in from top Democrats who rarely criticize the president suggesting he needs to have a serious look at his performance tonight and assess for himself whether he can go forward. That number will only mount. There will be more and more.

It was an unmitigated disaster. It was uncomfortable to watch. I sat with my family and friends and, for the first 25 minutes of the debate, we kept grabbing each other’s arms. It was so jarring. He was so distant, so frail, so hard to comprehend, so unsteady. I honestly didn’t know whether he was going to make it through the answer, never mind through the debate or through a second term.

The contrast between Joe Biden and Donald Trump has never been more stark. Trump came out calm, cool, collected. He looked comfortable. Donald Trump, Jr. tweeted that he thinks the format actually helped his father stay composed and presidential.

One could probably go out on a limb and assume that Biden does not know that this ended his campaign. Joe always seems to think he is doing a great job.

Multiple senior citizens and residents at an assisted living facility in Chevy Chase, Maryland, told Politico they were uncomfortable with President Biden’s debate performance on Thursday night against former President Trump.

In one rambling statement on the American healthcare system, Biden declared during the debate: “We finally beat Medicare.”

Following that statement, 81-year-old Barbara Goldberg “put her head in her hands,” Politico reported, and repeated Biden’s words as she watched the event unfold.

“We finally beat Medicare?” she said.

“I don’t like to see [Biden’s] gaffes, but I don’t like to see Trump going haywire and cockamamie either,” Goldberg said.

“I think that he is rushing it, and he’s not looking at the camera for the most part,” 81-year-old Meg Maguire told Politico. Maguire was visiting the assisted living facility during the debate Thursday night.

Nearly half of Americans believe that the Democrats should replace President Joe Biden after his abysmal debate performance on Thursday evening.

The poll, conducted by YouGov on Friday morning, found 49 percent believe he should be replaced for their best chance at winning, while 30 percent said he should remain the nominee.

When asked, “Who do you think the Republican Party should nominate as its presidential candidate if it wants to have the best chance of winning?” Most respondents, 44 percent, said they should keep Donald Trump, while 38 percent said “someone else,” and 18 percent were “not sure.”

The Hill reports:

In the YouGov poll about replacing Biden, 50 percent of independents said the Democrats should replace Biden, while 29 percent of Democrats said he should stand down.

A majority of voters aged 45-64 also said Biden should be replaced, with 54 percent saying someone else should take over. Half of voters over the age of 65 said he should be replaced. Meanwhile, 48 percent and 40 percent of voters 30-44 years old and 18-29 years old, respectively, said he should be replaced.

A majority of white voters said they believe that Biden should be replaced, while only 30 percent of Black voters said a change is necessary. Among Latino voters, there is almost a 2-to-1 split in favor of Biden being replaced. Voters of color are a crucial block for Biden to win reelection.

In CNN’s post-debate flash poll, just 33 percent said the president won the debate, while 67 percent said Trump won.

When asked about their confidence in each candidate to lead the country, 14 percent of the debate watchers said they had “a lot” of confidence in Biden, 29 percent said “some,” and a 57 percent majority said “none.”

Asked about Trump, 36 percent said they had “a lot” of confidence, 20 percent said “some,” and 44 percent said “none.”

Biden admitted that the debate did not go well for him while speaking at a campaign stop in North Carolina on Friday.

“I don’t debate as well as I used to but I know how to do this job,” Biden claimed.

Like most other liberals in media, they called Joe’s performance a ‘f**king disaster.’

They even correctly suggested that Joe made himself look even worse through his feeble voice and appearance. For once, these guys are saying something about Biden that’s true and accurate.

Donald Trump is a threat to democracy, Donald Trump is just a despicable human being, he should not be president, we have to do literally everything we possibly can to make sure that he is not president again, and that is why it was so fucking awful because Joe Biden in every single way failed at that debate.”

Vietor said, “Debates are a performance and what you say and how you say it both matter and so the optics to start there were very bad tonight. He had to answer concerns about his age, I think he exacerbated them. His voice sounded frail. There was an answer where he kind of stalled out halfway through.”

You know that Joe Biden had a bad night at the debate when even Jon Stewart is mocking him. If Stewart had any chance of focusing his mockery on Donald Trump, you know he would absolutely do it.

Stewart even made 25th Amendment jokes at Biden’s expense.

Something shifted after this debate. The left now has permission to notice what the rest of the country has been saying for the last three and a half years. That Biden is completely unqualified to continue serving as president.

“The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart, broadcasting live after Thursday night’s first general 2024 election debate between President Biden and former President Trump, joined the chorus of those pillorying the incumbent over his performance.

“Need to call a real estate agent in New Zealand,” Stewart, who recently typically only hosts the Comedy Central show on Mondays, said after playing a clip of Biden trailing off midthought before asserting that “we finally beat Medicare.”

Democrats went into a panic over how Biden handled the debate, often mumbling and veering to other subjects while failing to make his points, and a flash poll from CNN showed two-thirds of viewers believe Trump won the Atlanta event.

Stewart made clear he thought the president did no better when it was his predecessor’s turn to speak, saying Biden had “resting 25th Amendment face” while listening to the Republican.
