The US will have a Women’s 3×3 Basketball team in the Olympics this year. The greatest player in NCAA Women’s Basketball history, Caitlin Clark, was not selected for that team either.

We learned over the weekend that Caitlin Clark, the greatest collegiate player in history (who many believe is the greatest of all-time) will not be on the Olympic team. Clark became the all-time scorer in NCAA basketball history in her career this past year, breaking nearly every record for scoring and assists that there were to break.

Clark is famous for her three-point shots from near the half-court. These are long shots for the NBA, let alone for NCAA women’s basketball. Clark broke the all-time women’s scoring record with one of her famous logo three-point shots.

Clark has continued her record-setting performances in the WNBA. As of June 8, no player selected to the Olympic team has scored more 3-pointers this year in the WNBA than Clark, and only one woman on the Olympic team has more assists than Clark this WNBA Season.

Brittney Griner who has only scored 11 points this year will be on the team. She recently was in a Russian prison after she was arrested for smuggling drugs into the country. Diana Taurasi who is on the team is behind Clark in nearly every category.

But Clark was not invited. Clark also was not invited on the 3×3 US women’s Olympic team.

The 3×3 team was announced last week by USA basketball.

Atlanta Dream guard Rhyne Howard, the 2022 WNBA Rookie of the Year, and Los Angeles Sparks center Cameron Brink, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, will lead Team USA’s 3×3 Women’s Basketball team at the Paris Olympics. They will be joined by TCU guard Hailey Van Lith and former WNBA player Cierra Burdick.

Clark, who was the number one pick in the draft will not be on the team. Clark is crushing Brink and Howard in scoring, threes and assists. Burdick isn’t even in the WNBA anymore.

Clark will not be in the Olympics but these girls will? They are great athletes. But Clark not making the team is a travesty.

Almost 30 beverages have been recalled so far this year, according to a new notice from the Food and Drug Administration.

In one of the most recent recalls, four drinks from the Charles Boggini Company, which are sold at restaurants, contain chemicals that can be harmful, according to the recent FDA enforcement notice analyzed by USA Today.

The company’s Pink Lemonade, Cola Flavoring Base, Yellow Lemonade and Yellow Lemonade X were all recalled.

The Pink Lemonade drink contained FD&C Red No. 40 dye, a dye linked to colorectal cancer. The Yellow Lemonade and Yellow Lemonade X contained FD&C Yellow No. 5, which can cause allergic reactions in some people.

The Cola Flavoring Base, meanwhile, had sulfites linked to respiratory issues when consumed in large doses.

About 1.9 million bottles of Fiji Water were recalled, according to WMAO-TV. The water was suspected of containing manganese and three  of what the FDA called “bacterial genera.”

Affected bottles have the UPC code: 6 32565 00001 2.

“The FDA classification announced yesterday relates to a matter from several months ago that never posed any health or safety risk,” company representative Melissa England said.

In summarizing the recalls, the U.K. Daily Mail noted that Tapee Tea was recalled for containing anti-inflammatory drugs never listed on the label nor declared on the label; Schweppes Zero Sugar Ginger Ale was recalled by Pepsi after it was learned it actually contained sugar; and 2,000 cases of Mug Root Beer were recalled because they contained Mug Zero Sugar root beer.

Almost 25,000 cases of Martinelli’s apple juice were recalled due to elevated levels of inorganic arsenic.

The Mail also noted that, of the 28 recalls, 24 of them were due to the product containing something — harmful chemicals included — that was not declared.

More than 900 cases of Powerade were recalled, noted AL.com.

The included 87 cases of Powerade Zero Mixed Berry (lot codes 0013098209, 0013111742, 0013111657, and 0013119902);  366 cases of Powerade Mountain Berry Blast ( lot codes 0013098209, 0013111742, 0013111657, and 0013119902) and 149 cases of Powerade Zero Fruit Punch lot codes 0013098209, 0013111742, 0013111657, and 0013119902.”

The drink was recalled due to concern that there might be a foreign metal object in the drinks.

“There are a lot of drinks that have been scrutinized of late and a lot of it has to do with labeling and undeclared ingredients,” Dr. Darin Detwiler, a food safety expert at Northeastern University in Boston, said, according to the Mail.

Multiple infant formulas have also been recalled, per the FDA.

More than 1 million cans of Enfamil Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder were recalled because they might contain the bacteria Cronobacter sakazakii. The bacteria can cause infants to suffer from seizures or brain swelling.

The Goat Milk Toddler Formula Two produced by Sammy’s Milk was recalled over misleading claims.

The FDA maintains a page that consumers can use to search for products and calls.

A heart-stopping moment captured on newly released surveillance video shows a Lee County Sheriff’s Office sniper executing a precision shot that neutralized an armed bank robber holding two hostages.

In February, 36-year-old Sterling Alavache, who was armed with a knife and claimed to have a bomb, was shot dead by a SWAT sniper during a robbery in southwest Florida.

The footage, which has been circulating on social media, highlights the sniper’s skill as his bullet pierces a computer monitor to fatally strike the suspect at a Bank of America in Fort Myers.

The video, edited for clarity and context, was released by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook this past Saturday.

Just inside the lobby and outside the bank were members of the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit, a Hostage Negotiations Team, and Patrol Bureau, some of who were dressed in tactical gear.

The video offers a look over the shoulder of the sniper as he takes aim with his rifle supported on the shoulder of the man in front of him. The angle provides a hint of the limited view of the suspect and how he was shielded by the monitor.

The scene cuts to the moment the sniper takes his shot, and the .308-caliber bullet crosses the full length of the lobby and cuts right through the monitor. The suspect collapses instantly.

Flash bang devices were soon deployed, and the members of the Special Unit Team rushed in to ensure the hostages were safe and that the suspect was not a threat, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Todd Ulmer noted.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the men and women of law enforcement today,” Marceno said on the day of the robbery. “How you train is how you perform, and this is exactly what we train for.”

It’s about time!

Law enforcement across the nation is stepping up their game against wild street takeovers. Although their efforts are not nearly enough, the recent crackdown offers hope.

Just look at the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office, which finally took meaningful action by arresting over 50 suspects at one of these lawless gatherings. It’s a step in the right direction, but they need to do much more.

According to KCAL, this move was made to arrest people associated with the attack on a deputy who responded to a street takeover last month.

When he arrived, like we’ve seen so many times before, the crowd surrounded his patrol car and attacked it.

Apparently, this time the sheriff had enough and they dropped the hammer once they felt they could scoop all the suspects up in one swoop. Once the dust settled, 56 individuals were in handcuffs.

The report claims the bust was at an illegal “car meetup.” We’re not entirely sure what that means, because oftentimes what we gearheads call a meet and what the mainstream media calls a “meetup” can be two very different things.

This bust was codenamed “Operation Consequences” which is just great. There really should be more consequences for the street takeover crowd. For a long time, they’ve been allowed to engage in illegal activities in California and other places with few repercussions.

While some attempted to dismiss the takeover events as juvenile behavior, this appears to be a poor excuse and justification.

At last, public opinion is shifting towards endorsing a harsher crackdown on these takeovers and their participants.

According to media reports, the bust was made on June 1 at a vacant lot on private property, but authorities would not disclose where it was made.

The San Bernadino Sheriff’s Office should be commended for making an example out of these suspects.

The Daily Mail reported that underground tunnels under Ybor City, a suburb near Tampa, were discovered after being hidden from the general public for decades.

Now, a string of recent discoveries has the city asking questions about what they were used for.

City officials, historians, and the University of Southern Florida first collaborated to map out three tunnels in 2018 after construction crews discovered them while working near an old bottle factory.

USF researcher Dr. Lori Collins shared, “These are quite substantial. I mean, you can stand up and maybe bend over a little bit, depending on how tall you are. But you can certainly travel through them.”

Some researchers believe the tunnels were used during prohibition, but St. Petersburg history professor Dr. Gary Mormino has serious doubts about that the tunnels were used by bootleggers but offered a different theory.

Dr. Mormino shared with the Daily Mail that the tunnels could have been used for immoral purposes, such as the human trafficking of Chinese laborers and Cuban prostitutes.

The passageways under Ybor City, a suburb near downtown Tampa, remained hidden for decades before a string of discoveries revealed the subterranean network.

Historians have since speculated widely over their use, from moving moonshine, human trafficking and cash smuggling to simply ‘as a sewer’.

The latest tunnels were found in 2018 near the Old Florida Brewery, close to East 6th Avenue and Noccio Parkway, while construction was being carried out on a new office building.

Few were so in touch with the, shall we say, earthy side of the business as the late Jeffrey Bernard, a world-beating rake and degenerate. Bernard’s “Low Life” columns, which ran in the Spectator as foils to the “High Life” column of the immortal Taki Theodoracopoulos (a founder of our own magazine), were dispatches from the void.

Bernard had been the racing columnist for Sporting Life until his antics got him the sack (imagine being too badly behaved for sportswriting). For the Spectator, he would bash out Hogarthian tableaux on his typewriter (“Monica”) from a perch at the Coach and Horses pub in Soho, featuring characters from the seamy side like “No Knickers” Joyce and “London’s rudest landlord,” Norman Balon. These little sketches of betting shops, bars, and seedy studio apartments were so vivid that Keith Waterhouse wrote a play based on a number of them, Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell (a turn of phrase used by the Spectator editors when Bernard was too drunk to file). Peter O’Toole starred in its first run, which was a huge success.

A number of the columns were collected in a 1987 volume, titled simply Low Life. Essential reading for people who take journalism seriously.

As previously reported, a federal jury in the Northern District of Georgia has convicted a Georgia attorney and former City of Atlanta police officer of fraudulently obtaining approximately $15 million in loans under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

The former Atlanta prosecutor used the Covid money to fund a lavish lifestyle, which included the purchase of a Rolls-Royce and a 10-carat diamond ring for $148,000, as well as significant money transfers to her relatives and accomplice.

Shelitha Robertson, 62, of Atlanta was found guilty of multiple counts of fraud, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud itself, and money laundering in December.

Robertson on Friday was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Steven D. Grimberg to seven years, three months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release.

“Shelitha Robertson, who formerly served as an Assistant City Attorney and police officer for the City of Atlanta, has been sentenced for fraudulently obtaining approximately $15 million in loans under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), a federal stimulus program authorized as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act,” the US Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Georgia announced.

“Motivated by greed, Robertson deceptively obtained funds that were designated to provide emergency financial relief to struggling small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan. “We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute criminals who stole pandemic relief funds.”

“Today the defendant in this case was held accountable for fraudulently obtaining millions of dollars through the Paycheck Protection Program and using those stolen funds to enrich herself, while small businesses were struggling during the pandemic,” said Kyle A. Myles, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Office of Inspector General, Atlanta Region. “The FDIC OIG remains committed to working with our law enforcement partners to pursue and bring to justice those who took advantage of such pandemic relief programs and threatened the integrity of our Nation’s financial institutions.”

“Scheming to divert vital funds from legitimate businesses that needed support during the pandemic undermines the integrity of SBA’s programs,” said SBA OIG’s Eastern Region Special Agent in Charge Amaleka McCall-Braithwaite. “Our office remains steadfast in pursuing those who exploit federal programs for personal gain. I would like to thank the US. Attorney’s Office and our law enforcement partners for their unwavering commitment to the pursuing justice in this case.”

The New York Post reported that Robertson also donated $1,000 to corrupt Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis primary election campaign around the time she stole Covid funds.

French President Emmanuel Macron was pulverized in the national election today. According to exit polling, Marine LePen’s National Rally party will win around 32% of the vote, while Macron’s Renaissance party will win around 15%.

Overall, in the EU elections this weekend the populist movement expanded seats and the leftist/green party’s lost seats.

French President Emmanuel Macron set off a political earthquake on Sunday when he called snap legislative elections for later this month after he was trounced in the European Union vote by Marine Le Pen’s far-right party.

Macron’s shock decision represents a major gamble on his political future, three years before his presidency ends. If Le Pen’s National Rally (RN) party wins a parliamentary majority, Macron would be left with little sway over domestic affairs.

Macron said the EU result was grim for his government, and one he could not ignore. In an address to the nation, less than two months before Paris hosts the Olympics, he said lower house elections would be called for June 30, with a second-round vote on July 7.

“This is an essential time for clarification,” Macron said. “I have heard your message, your concerns and I will not leave them unanswered … France needs a clear majority to act in serenity and harmony.”

At a high-energy rally in Las Vegas, President Donald Trump unveiled a groundbreaking proposal that resonates deeply with the working class—eliminating all taxes on tips for restaurants, hospitality workers, and others who are getting tips.

In his speech, Trump focused heavily on economic relief for working-class Americans, specifically targeting those in service industries who rely significantly on tips.

“This is the first time I’ve said this,” Trump announced, “and for those hotel workers and people that get tips, you’re going to be very happy. When I get back into office, we are going to eliminate taxes on tips. We’re going to do that right away, first thing in office.”

Trump emphasized that removing taxes on tips was not just a popular move but a deserved one, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of service industry employees.

“You do a great job of service; you take care of people,” he said. “And I think it’s something that really is deserved.”

“So those people that have jobs in restaurants, whatever the job may be, a tipping job, we’re not going after for taxes anymore. This will be ended,” he announced.
