Former AG Bill Barr Says Trump’s Conviction an ‘Abomination’ – Will Be Overturned on Appeal (VIDEO)

Former Attorney General Bill Barr has come out swinging against Donald Trump’s sham criminal trial and conviction, describing the entire process as an “abomination.”

Barr made the comments during an interview on Fox News with Martha McCallum, pointing out that Trump obviously did not commit a crime.

“I said from the very start that this was an abomination, and I actually was surprised that they went ahead with the case because there really was nothing there,” Barr said. “There was no crime there, and they really weren’t able to articulate it until after the defense rested its case. So I thought the whole thing was a travesty.”

— Daily Caller (@DailyCaller) June 5, 2024

The 74-year-old, who betrayed tens of millions of Americans by refusing to investigate election fraud during the 2020 presidential election, added that the conviction would undermine any potential Biden victory.

“This will be eventually overruled after the election. But what if there’s a close election? And Biden squeaks through, and then the case is overruled?” he continued. “Half the country is gonna feel this was a stolen election and again, this is a grave injustice and disservice to the country.”

Barr recently confirmed that despite their fallout and Trump’s various attacks on his character, he would still be voting for the former president in November.

“If faced with a choice between two people, neither of which I think should be president, I feel it’s my duty to pick the person who I think would do the least damage to the country,” Barr said at the time.

“And I think Trump would do less damage than Biden. And I think all this stuff about a threat to democracy, I think the real threat to democracy is the progressive movement. And in the Biden administration.”

Illegal Aliens Rush Over San Diego Border 12 Hours After Biden Announces New Executive Order on Asylum Seekers

Joe Biden’s America.

Illegal aliens rushed over the US border in San Diego County just 12 hours after Joe Biden announced his new executive order on asylum seekers.

Joe Biden on Tuesday held a fake border security press conference on his new asylum ‘restrictions’ from the East Room.

More than 15 million illegal aliens – mainly military-age males – have invaded the US on Biden’s watch.

Joe Biden took 94 executive actions in his first 100 days in office to destroy the border.

Now he’s acting like the savior with his new ‘asylum restrictions’ – only asylum is STILL AVAILABLE to thousands of illegal aliens every single day released into the US.

According to The New York Post, Biden’s new border ‘crackdown’ will still allow at least 1.8 million illegals to enter the US every year.

According to Fox News reporter Bill Melugin, the illegal border crossers he encountered (mainly adult males) on Wednesday in Jacumba, California were from Colombia and Venezuela.

We have no idea who these people are.

Happening now: 12 hours after Biden’s executive order went into effect blocking asylum for illegal crossers (with numerous exceptions), we have a mass illegal crossing taking place here in Jacumba, CA. The people I’ve spoken to so far are from Colombia & Venezuela. pic.twitter.com/L715CcBDIM

Bill Melugin also encountered unvetted groups of men from the Middle East illegally crossing into Jacumba, California, including “Special Interest Aliens” from Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey.

A Special Interest Alien is an illegal immigrant who, based on travel patterns and point of origin, poses a national security threat to the United States.

Joe Biden’s open border is putting all American citizens in danger.

“A Jordanian man told me he came here for work, not asylum,” Bill Melugin said. “He told me he knows he broke the law, and that he doesn’t care.”

The World Rallies To President Trump’s Defense In Aftermath Of Kangaroo Court Verdict

Biden and his Democratic allies were in for a crude awakening in the aftermath of last week’s sham guilty verdict against President Trump, the byproduct of a kangaroo trial that denied the leading man to be America’s next president due process rights and his freedom of expression.

While Biden was expecting the American people to at long last turn on President Trump, in fact the opposite occurred: they rallied to his side, at a rate previously unseen in modern presidential history.  President Trump’s fundraising haul since last week’s conviction has been historic: he has hauled in hundreds of millions of dollars of cash.

In May, President Trump’s campaign posted its highest figure ever – $141 million – far outpacing Joe Biden, who has been struggling mightily to prevent the bloodletting of voters across every demographic group to President Trump’s corner.

Indeed, on the same day the 45th President held his press conference at Trump Tower to denounce the Biden-Bragg show verdict as but the latest attempt in the Left’s never-ending saga to derail MAGA and rig another presidential election, new polling came out showing the 45th President with a 6-point nationwide advantage over Biden, and leading in all six key battleground states this cycle: Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Nevada.

While Biden’s problems are bad on the domestic front, they get arguably worse overseas.  The international order has descended into chaos under Biden’s stewardship.

Western countries have been ravaged by strife and warfare in Eastern Europe and the Middle East to levels not seen since World War II.  Meanwhile, autocratic regimes like China, Iran, and Russia have been empowered, relative to the United States and Europe, which have been brought to near financial and cultural ruin by the suicidal policies of the Biden government.

The world community is hurting – and they can see the show trial for what it is: a persecution of a political opponent, plain and simple.  Many of the countries that rallied to the 45th President’s defense and called Biden’s bluff had firsthand experience with political prosecutions, those being dark parts of their histories, and how a weaponized justice system can bring down a democratic and free society.

For example, Nayib Bukele, the new president of El Salvador, said in a recent sit-down interview with Tucker Carlson that the Democrats are making a “huge mistake” by arresting President Trump. Over the course of the conversation, Bukele said the lawfare against President Trump has given him “the greatest campaign ever” and “will just give [President Trump] more votes.”

— Alex Bruesewitz (@alexbruesewitz) June 6, 2024

The sentiment Bukele expressed was shared by leaders from across the world.  In the United Kingdom, Nigel Farage, current leader of the Reform Party, denounced the Biden show trial in the harshest of terms, contending that the Left “overplayed their hand.”  He added that he is now “more certain [President Trump] will win.”

Farage’s remarks were echoed by former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, who also was no-holds-barred in his takedown of the guilty verdict: “When we see this happening in Africa, or in Russia, we denounce it as authoritarian and corrupt.  Well, the American people have looked at it, and decided that the methods and the motives are fundamentally the same.  Whatever his detractors may say, I believe that Donald Trump – at his best – could offer the world the strong, confident leadership that it needs.”

Former UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson’s, denunciation of the Biden show trial verdict, which was reposted on President Trump’s Truth Social page.

Matteo Salvini, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister, joined his British companions in offering his own withering critique of the verdict.  Salvini issued a statement, later reposted by President Trump, which said: “Solidarity and full support for @realDonaldTrump, victim of judicial harassment and a process of political nature.  In Italy, we are sadly familiar with the weaponization of the justice system by the [L]eft, given that for years attempts have been made to eliminate political opponents through legal means.  I hope Trump wins; it would be a guarantee of greater balance and hope for world peace.”

Matteo Salvini, Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, also criticizing the verdict in the harshest of terms. Salvini’s remarks were posted on President Trump’s Truth Social page.

Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, also offered supporting words on behalf of the 45th President, saying: “I’ve known President [Trump] to be a man of honour.  As President, he always put America first, he commanded respect around the world and used this respect to build peace.  Let the people make their verdict this November!  Keep on fighting, Mr. President!”

Screen grab of Hungarian PM, Viktor Orban’s critique of the Biden show trial verdict, which was re-Truthed by President Trump.

Things have gotten so bad with the weaponized justice system in the United States that even autocratic countries, like Russia and China, sharply denounced the political prosecutions occurring here.  Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Kremlin, condemned the guilty verdict as the “elimination of political rivals by all possible legal or illegal means.”

Even China, perhaps America’s greatest foreign adversary (and not known for being a bastion of democracy and freedom), reported negatively about the verdict.  Chinese state media framed the verdict as yet another way by the Biden government to “exacerbate political extremism” and “social unrest” domestically.

News of President Trump’s unprecedented conviction at the hand of a politicized and weaponized Justice Department has spread like wildfire the world over.  Many countries that once viewed the United States as a beacon of freedom are developing a much different view, one that is deeply jaded about the current trajectory under Joe Biden, of which the verdict is but only the latest example of a laundry list of woes.

Biden is equal parts awful at home and abroad: he strikes the image of a bumbling idiot on the global stage, conveying extreme weakness and incompetence, while running roughshod over the rule of law and civil liberties at home – going so far as to risk plunging America into chaos by prosecuting his leading political opponent in order to cheat his way to a second term, because at this point cheating and lawfare is the only way he knows how to win elections.

Sean Hannity Attempts to Persuade Trump, Who Faces 94 Fake Indictments, to Go Easy on Biden’s Gestapo DOJ When He Returns to the White House (VIDEO)

Credit: Fox News/Youtube

Fox News host Sean Hannity has sparked outrage among conservatives by attempting to get President Donald Trump to go easy on Biden’s Department of Justice. This comes despite Trump facing 94 politically motivated and baseless indictments.

In an exclusive interview on “Hannity,” President Donald Trump laid bare the unprecedented political persecution he faces and slammed the Biden regime’s catastrophic governance. As the nation teeters on the edge of crisis, Trump outlined his vision for restoring justice and reclaiming American greatness.

Trump did not mince words when addressing the litany of legal challenges hurled at him by the left. He detailed the baseless nature of the Georgia case, now on hold pending an appeal regarding DA Fani Willis’s disqualification.

Similarly, the DOJ’s shaky document case in Florida raises serious questions about the legitimacy of the special counsel’s appointment and the integrity of the evidence. Trump unequivocally asserts that these cases are nothing more than politically motivated witch hunts designed to sabotage his presidential campaign.

During the interview, Hannity asked Trump a direct question: “Will you pledge to restore equal justice, equal application of our laws, and this practice of weaponization? Is that a promise you’re going to make?”

Trump, who faces 94 fake indictments, which are politically motivated and without merit, responded with a strong sentiment about the current state of politics.

Hannity: Will you pledge to restore equal justice, equal application of our laws, and this practice of weaponization? Is that a promise you’re going to make?

Trump: You have to do it. But it’s awful. Look, I know you want me to say something-

Hannity: No, I don’t want you to say. I’m asking.

Trump: But I don’t want to look naive. What they’ve done to the Republican Party, they want to arrest on no crime. They want to arrest the person that won the nomination in a landslide. There was nobody even close in a landslide. The person that got millions of votes, more votes than any other sitting president in history in the last election, the person that won an election that he wasn’t expected to win against Hillary Clinton in 2016, they want to arrest that person on no crime. They want to arrest… There was no crime. There was no criminality. There was no crime. And you can go back to all of these legal scholars. They can’t believe what’s happening. Some of them don’t even like me, and they’re saying, “This is a very dangerous thing that’s happening.” No, we can’t let this happen. And I will do everything in my power not to let it. But there’s tremendous criminality here. What they’re doing to me, if it’s going to continue, we’re really not going to have much of a country.

WATCH:

Hannity’s line of questioning sparked outrage among many conservative viewers who felt Hannity was being too lenient on the Biden regime’s DOJ.

One user, Vince Lagman, voiced his frustration on social media, writing, “Listen to that snowflake Sean Hannity trying to get the guy facing 94 fake indictments to agree not to hold Biden Gestapo DOJ accountable when he gets back in office. Cowards like Hannity are exactly why Democrats have no fear of retribution!”

Another user expressed discontent: “What the hell is wrong with Hannity??? Every day he whines about the corruption of the Bidens and other Dems… And how there is a two-tiered justice system… And Now He Wants Trump To Go Easy On Them if Elected??????”

The sentiment was echoed by a third commenter, who wrote, “It’s driving me crazy. Why is he so hooked on Trump not getting so-called ‘retribution’? These people are committing crimes. Sean Hannity makes it sound like they are right and should not be punished for it!!!”

Rep. Paul Gosar Proposes Issuance of $500 Bills to Combat Bidenflation… Featuring Donald Trump’s Portrait!

Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar has called on the Federal Reserve to start issuing $500 bills that would feature President Trump’s portrait.

Gosar, a staunch Trump ally and one of the most trustworthy Republican members of the Congress, authored the Treasury Reserve Unveiling Memorable Portrait (TRUMP) Act, which he claims will “empower Americans with the freedom of more tangible options to save and exchange goods and services.”

“As Bidenflation continues to devalue our currency, the issuance of $500 bills featuring President Trump by the Treasury offers several practical advantages,” Mr. Gosar said.

The legislation would require the Secretary of the United States Treasury to print $500 Federal Reserve notes featuring Trump’s portrait.

— bryan metzger (@metzgov) June 5, 2024

Gosar added that Trump’s face would help create increased tax revenue as a result of increased demand for “numismatic items.”

“Collectors often covet currency with unique designs and historical significance and bills featuring the very popular 45th President will attract considerable attention from collectors,” he said.

Given the current Democratic control of the Senate and White House, such legislation has zero chance of passing, at least with Trump’s face on it.

The current U.S. currency denominations and their featured figures include George Washington on the $1 bill, Thomas Jefferson on the $2 bill, Abraham Lincoln on the $5 bill, Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill, Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill, Ulysses S. Grant on the $50 bill, and Benjamin Franklin on the $100 bill.

The Treasury Department has previously issued $500 at a time when they were worth multiple times what they are now, however they were discontinued in 1969 due to lack of use.

Pro-Palestinian Activists Break into Stanford President’s Office and Lock the Doors – Police Break in and All Protesters Are Quickly Expelled (VIDEO)

Pro-Hamas activists broke into the Stanford President’s office on Wednesday morning and locked the doors. Local police broke into the room and all of the protesters were expelled from school.

Pro-Hamas activists broke into the Stanford president’s office Wednesday morning at 5:30 AM.

The protesters then vandalized the office, locked the doors, and started to broadcast on Instagram.

Local police quickly broke into the room and arrested the protesters. The university then quickly expelled them from campus. The university then released a statement saying they will work with police to ensure the young hoodlums face the full consequencens

That’s how it’s done!

KTVU reported:

Pro-Palestinian protesters took over the Stanford president’s office early Wednesday morning, drawing a large police presence in reaction and ending in 13 arrests.

The university said all the students who were arrested will be immediately suspended, and if they are seniors, will not be allowed to graduate.

The university also said that a public safety officer was injured after being shoved by protesters who were interfering with a transport vehicle. Plus, according to the university, there was “extensive damage” to the interior of Building 10 and the exterior of the buildings in the quad.

“We are appalled that our students chose to take this action, and we will work with law enforcement to ensure that they face the full consequences allowed by law,” Stanford President Richard Saller and Provost Jenny Martinez said in a joint statement. “We have consistently emphasized the need for constructive engagement and peaceful protest when there is a disagreement in views. This was not a peaceful protest and actions such as what occurred this morning have no place at Stanford.”

The protesters, mostly students, surrounded Building 10 at about 5:30 a.m., where President Richard Saller works, as does the provost.

“WE HAVE TAKEN OVER PRESIDENT SALLERS (sic) OFFICE!!!” the protesters wrote on their account, liberatestanford, on Instagram. “WE WILL STAY UNTIL OUR DEMANDS ARE MET.”

The young activists wrote “no pigs” with spray paint on the door as they hid in the president’s office.

VIDEO: Florida Man Wearing Only a Women’s Shirt Crashes Car into Jail — Rants About Trump Before Throwing Oil, Rubber Snakes on Floor

A Florida man wearing a women’s shirt and no pants crashed into the Martin County Jail on Monday and threw motor oil and rubber snakes all over the floor.

After crashing through the doors, Joseph Leedy, 40, got out of the car wearing only the shirt, poured the motor oil, and threatened to light the place on fire.

Leedy declared that he wanted to “kill everyone” as he threw the rubber snakes on the ground and fought with officers.

The unhinged man claimed that the “devil” was making him do it and ranted about hating President Donald Trump.

Local station WPTV reports that Chief Deputy John Budensiek said during a press conference that paramedics gave him multiple doses of ketamine in an attempt to calm him down, but ultimately he was tased.

The station reports:

Budensiek said Leedy refused to cooperate with deputies’ commands, so they were forced to tase him and take him into custody.

“While our deputies were interacting with him, he kept saying things like, ‘The devil told me to kill everyone.’ And he kept sharing his disdain for President Donald Trump,” Budensiek said.

The chief deputy added that paramedics gave Leedy “multiple doses of ketamine” to calm him down, but it “did not sedate him.”

Leedy was taken to Cleveland Clinic Martin South Hospital, but was later released and booked into the Martin County Jail.

“While he did penetrate the initial door to the lobby, at no time was the jail itself ever compromised. This jail is built extremely well. There’s double layers of concrete wall behind this door. The jail and our jail staff and our inmates were safe during this entire encounter,” Budensiek said.

Leedy has now been charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest without violence.

SMACKDOWN: FOX News Reporter John Roberts Catches Biden Campaign in a Lie and Brings ALL the Receipts (VIDEO)

The Biden campaign recently accused John Roberts of lying about a Trump era policy that Biden is trying to take credit for and they are now living to regret it.

Roberts took to the airwaves on Wednesday and disproved the Biden campaign’s accusation and he brought all of the receipts to back up his argument.

You can tell from the way Roberts addresses this that he is not cool with what Biden’s people tried to do here.

RedState reported:

The “Biden-Harris HQ,” which is an official arm of the Biden campaign, found itself facing pushback after it claimed Fox News’ John Roberts had told a “blatant lie” regarding Trump and insulin prices. Here’s what the post, which still hasn’t been deleted or corrected, looked like.

The problem? Their “fact-check” is factually untrue, and Roberts wasn’t willing to take the accusation lying down. Instead, he took the airwaves with a handful of receipts and delivered a takedown of the Biden campaign.

ROBERTS: Yesterday, coming out of a segment in which the $35 insulin co-pay under the Inflation Reduction Act was mentioned, I remarked that I recalled back in May of 2020, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that stated President Trump had a plan to lower insulin co-pays to $35. The Biden campaign’s rapid response issued a post on X saying the following: “Fox host tries to claim Trump, not President Biden capped insulin at $35 a month. Fact-check: This is a blatant lie.”

But there are receipts to dispute the Biden campaign’s claim about what I said.

This is the Biden team tweet that started this:

Fox host tries to claim Trump, not President Biden, capped insulin at $35/month

And here is the absolutely brutal response from Roberts:

America’s Arrogant Imperialism on Full Display in Tbilisi

America’s Arrogant Imperialism on Full Display in Tbilisi

Why is the U.S. dictating internal Georgian politics?

The Black Sea country of Georgia was recently convulsed by protests over the passage of legislation requiring disclosure of foreign funding of NGOs. The controversy is a big deal in Tbilisi. However, the issue doesn’t matter much in America. At least, it shouldn’t.

But that ignores the endless ambitions of those who rule Washington, D.C. Georgia’s elected government refused to comply with instructions to drop the bill. So, the Biden administration is determined to impose its will.

Just another day in the Imperial City.

Georgia was one of the Soviet republics that broke free when the USSR imploded. The new country’s birth was tumultuous, and the famed Rose Revolution later brought to power a Georgian version of Volodymyr Zelensky by the name of Mikhail Saakashvili. The latter tied himself to Washington, lobbied to join NATO, and, expecting American support, made the disastrous mistake of bombarding Russian troops stationed in the breakaway territory of South Ossetia, triggering Moscow’s 2008 invasion.

Alas, amid a short but not-so-sweet war, Tbilisi discovered the limits of American backing. A proposal to destroy tunnels used by Russia to reinforce its forces fighting in Georgia reached President George W. Bush, who, thankfully, decided that the wannabe U.S. ally was not worth World War III. Saakashvili was defeated for reelection, with power shifting to the opposition Georgia Dream Party. The latter did what any sensible small nation neighboring an angry giant does: adjust and accommodate. Although reviled in Washington, Georgia Dream was twice reelected. While U.S. policymakers wanted to use Tbilisi to hem in Russia, Georgians decided to set their own course.

With Tbilisi approving the disclosure bill, the Biden administration is attempting to force Georgia’s elected parliament to reverse course. Just as a sparrow does not fall to earth without God knowing, apparently no law is passed in Tbilisi without Washington judging.

Critics view the legislation as the end of Georgian democracy, hence the need for action. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the measure would “compel us to fundamentally reassess our relationship with Georgia.” James O’Brien, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, warned the measure “could be a turning point in what has been till now a constructive and productive partnership” between America and Georgia. He threatened sanctions on Georgian Dream legislators who supported the measure, and soon thereafter State-restricted visas for the presumed Georgian miscreants.

The reaction on Capitol Hill, filled with self-anointed secretaries of state, was similar. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) drafted legislation targeting Georgia. The measure would sanction officials who “have material responsibility for undermining or injuring democracy, human rights, or security in Georgia,” including those responsible for passage of “the recent Russia-style foreign agent legislation.” He would also offer trade and visa benefits if that government complied with Washington’s will. European politicians demanded the European Union impose similar penalties while suspending action on Tbilisi’s application to join the EU.

Critics blame Moscow for the controversy.

The Hudson Institute’s Luke Coffey opined that the measure was called “the ‘Russian law’ because it mirrors a Kremlin law designed to silence, stifle, and shut down political opposition.” Analyst Ivana Stradner claimed that Moscow’s objective is to keep “Georgia in its grasp without a single bullet being fired” and that the legislation “will be a catalyst for other governments to adopt more authoritarian rules.” Natalie Sabanadze, a former ambassador to the EU, called the bill a “coup d’etat” and remarked: “I have no idea whether they’re working on Russia’s instructions, but they certainly are fulfilling their interests.”

All this may be Moscow’s plan, but no evidence has been offered to that effect. Mandating transparency itself is not undemocratic. Georgia’s bill requires NGOs to register if more than 20 percent of their funding comes from abroad. They would have to disclose relevant information to the authorities. Such groups would be viewed as either promoting foreign interests or being “agents of foreign influence.” No one wants to be labeled as such, but the bill would apparently do no more. In practice, then, the legislation is striking in its modesty. No one will be jailed. No one will be barred from politics. No one will be fined. Rather, foreign funding will be disclosed to the Georgian public.

The real objection is that most foreign NGO money comes from the U.S. and Europe. Hence Georgian protestors waving the EU flag. Despite the allies’ high-minded blather about democratic values, they would prefer to keep their activities secret. Western funders might claim they are supporting democracy, but their ultimate objective differs little from that of more authoritarian states, installing friendlier governments. Which is precisely why the existing authorities bridle at foreign funding of NGOs.

Years ago a friend who worked for the U.S. government-funded International Republican Institute told me that he was officially tasked with promoting democracy but was barred from meeting with the largest elected party in one country’s parliament because it was populist and opposed to EU membership. I happened to be in that nation on its election day and he could not meet me: he told me that he was too busy promoting the mainstream, pro-EU parties. Indeed, despite the largely discredited claim of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race, America is the world’s most active election meddler: a Carnegie-Mellon study reported that Washington had interfered with foreign contests more than any other nation, 81 times between 1945 and 2000.

While Moscow regulates foreign funding and influence, the real problem there is authoritarian practices, not transparency requirements. After all, Americans also bridle at foreign activities in the US, including alleged Chinese and Russian attempts to influence U.S. elections, foreign contributions to American political candidates, and foreign funding of Washington think tanks. Surely the Biden administration does not believe that Vladimir Putin and his coterie of friendly business oligarchs have a democratic right to secretly fund American political activities.

In fact, the U.S. has always been sensitive to overseas influences in American politics and business. In his Farewell Address, President George Washington warned, “Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow citizens) the jealously of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience provide that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republic government.” During America’s early years there were controversies over British, French, and Spanish activities.

Congress passed the Foreign Agents Registration Act in 1938. According to the Congressional Research Service, the purpose was “to reduce the influence of foreign propaganda circulating in the United States.” That is, to prohibit certain views, especially if funded by certain foreigners. Agents of “foreign principals” must register with the government. The measure is expansive, defining foreign principals as foreign governments, political parties, entities, and people. Engaging in political or PR activities, collecting or spending money, and representing foreign principals to the U.S. government make one a foreign agent, subject to FARA’s registration, disclosure, and record-keeping requirements.

America’s expansive law has created a specialty practice for lawyers. For instance, Covington & Burling published a guide to the law, which is generating an increasing number of prosecutions. Among the firm’s judgments: “FARA is written so broadly that, if read literally, it could potentially require registration even for some routine business activities of law firms”; “FARA is a complicated, arcane, and loosely worded statute”; FARA “triggers for registration are, on their face, extremely broad”; “FARA has no de minimis threshold. It can be triggered by even the slightest activity that means any one of the statutory triggers.” Covington also warns of “common traps” yielding criminal liability “even without a contract or payment, and even if the foreign person is not a government official.”

Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney offered similar warnings. For instance, “the broad array of activities that may trigger FARA registration requirements becomes even more expansive when considering how the law defines ‘political activities’.” Moreover, “when read together, the scope and reach of FARA’s applicability is expansive and could include a wide range of activities conducted on behalf of foreign governments, political parties, and/or organizations, including for example: lobbying U.S. government officials, activities undertaken to promote the U.S. public’s perception of a foreign government or entity, or even providing a forum for foreign officials to promote their programs and ideologies.”

If America has not abandoned democracy by enforcing such an act, why is Georgia’s measure, approved the required three times by an elected parliament, inconsistent with democracy?

Indeed, the allies seem to have given up on elections as a measure of democracy. For American and European policymakers bent on regime change, demonstrations override elections. Thus, Rep. Wilson declared that “the pro-Russian government is going against patriotic Georgians who reject life in the Kremlin’s dark ages. The repression of freedom-loving Georgians must stop, and the U.S. stands firm in calling for a return of democratic norms and values.” Sen. Jeanne Shaheen similarly claimed the legislation “is at odds with the wishes of the Georgian people.”

This is a remarkably arrogant characterization of another country’s politics. It ignores the sentiments of presumably patriotic Georgians who voted Georgia Dream into office. It treats demonstrating rather than voting as reflecting “democratic norms and values.” (However valid, the charge that the government used excessive force against protestors has nothing to do with the transparency bill.) Similar was the 2014 overthrow of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich. He was thoroughly corrupt, but was democratically elected in what Western observers acknowledged was a reasonably fair election. He was overthrown by street demonstrations in an opposition-dominated city which effectively disenfranchised millions of people who had voted for him, and, according to polls at the time, opposed his ouster. Who were the true “democrats”?

In the end, the Georgian controversy has little to do with democracy. Instead, Tbilisi’s critics are upset with the choices made by Georgia’s democratically elected politicians. Coffey argued that Georgia Dream was once reliably pro-Western, but that pro-Russian elements have “worked their way to the top.” Although Tbilisi remains officially for EU and NATO membership, he complained that the government isn’t vigorously pushing those issues. Moreover, noted Coffey, Georgia did not support sanctions on Moscow or Georgians volunteering to fight for Ukraine. Rep. Wilson had his own list: Georgia’s government “has openly attacked U.S. and other western democracy promotion organizations as well as local and international civil society while embracing increased ties with Russia in particular, as well as China.”

These positions are not surprising for pragmatic leaders of a small nation living in the shadow of a threatening neighbor. Especially when the allies have demonstrated their readiness to use other people to fight a bloody proxy war against Russia. However sympathetic Georgians may be to Ukraine, how many want to follow Kyiv into the abyss?

Of course, Brussels is entitled to set the EU’s entry criteria, which might include accepting well-funded European NGOs. What, however, is Washington’s excuse for meddling? American policymakers might question the judgment of Georgian voters and leaders, but that’s no justification for punishing them. If the Georgian government is, as claimed, out of step with the Georgian people, critics can make the law an issue in parliamentary elections set for October. Indeed, that is what Georgia’s elected but largely ceremonial president, Salome Zourabishvili, promised to do after unsuccessfully opposing the bill.

U.S. policymakers confront manifold policy challenges. A superpower should set priorities and leave other countries, governments, and peoples to govern themselves. As in Georgia.

What I Gleaned About Hunter Biden as Opinion Editor of the New York Post

What I Gleaned About Hunter Biden as Opinion Editor of the New York Post

And why this trial might be a smokescreen.

Going after Hunter Biden’s life of drug abuse, shady handguns, sex toys, and intimacy with strippers and high-end hookers achieves nothing. And that seems to me to be the point.

For a story so embarrassing to the sitting commander in chief, the left-of-center media have been curiously vigilant in reporting on the handgun trial. Why might that be? Forgive my cynicism, but I suspect it’s because doing so helps to cut off Hunter—a troubled son, an addict, a sex fiend, etc.—from his father and the wider corruption of the Democratic establishment. This, just as the same establishment is waging a relentless campaign of lawfare against Biden’s Republican opponent in this year’s presidential election.

Al Capone was never formally convicted for the murders and mayhem he caused—they nabbed him on tax-dodging charges. Isn’t something similar at play with Hunter Biden? This week, our illustrious presidential son went on trial for allegedly lying about his substance-abuse habits when filling out a form used to obtain a handgun permit.

Isn’t this satisfaction enough for those, like my former colleagues at the New York Post, who exposed his foreign influence-peddling, only to face Big Tech censorship, accusations of spreading Russian disinformation, and the scorn of most of the mainstream media? That seems to be the unspoken message telegraphed by much of the mainstream coverage of Hunter’s gun trial: See, the rule of law has been vindicated. No one is above the law. Not even our crackhead dauphin. The system works.

Sorry, I don’t buy it.

The point of nailing Al Capone on his taxes was to take an arch-criminal off the streets and thus to contain the damage he was doing to public order. But merely imprisoning Hunter Biden for lying on a gun form—if it comes to that, and it’s a big if—won’t suffice to make the public whole or protect us against similar elite malfeasance in the future. It won’t bring accountability for the full extent of his influence-peddling. Nor will it unravel the nexus between Big Tech, the security apparatus, and the corporate media that shielded that influence-peddling when it really mattered: in the weeks ahead of the 2020 election. And it allows the establishment to protect Hunter’s father by making a sacrifice of the son.

Lying on a handgun form is a serious offense, and if Hunter is indeed guilty of it, then of course he should pay the legal penalty. But that matter, as well as his ongoing tax problem, aren’t a question of public, political concern in the same way as his undeniable influence-peddling.

To briefly recap that last set of misdeeds: In 2015, his laptop emails show, Hunter set up a meeting between his father, at that time the vice president and the Obama administration’s point man on Ukraine, and executives from Burisma, a Ukrainian energy firm that was paying Hunter $83,000 a month. The emails uncovered by the Post also show that Hunter entered a shadowy business deal with a Chinese Communist Party–linked firm, in which 10 percent of the profits were to be set aside for someone referred to as “the big guy.” One of Hunter’s partners, a Democratic-leaning former intelligence officer, insists that “the buy guy” is none other than Hunter’s father.

All of this wheeling and dealing was premised on Hunter’s familial ties with a very powerful man, Joe Biden, who was involved in the relevant communications (under his real name in the case of the Burisma meeting and as “the big guy” in the Chinese arrangement). I needn’t detail what happened in the wake of the Post’s exposé: Facebook reduced circulation on the story pending “fact-checking” (something it never did with respect to numerous anti-Trump stories that proved to be factitious); and Twitter banned it outright, including from being shared in private messages, while suspending the account of the Post, America’s oldest continuously published daily, founded by Alexander Hamilton. Most of the mainstream media cheered this censorship, and the deep state lent it legitimacy in the form of a statement signed by 50 senior former intelligence officials who claimed, on the basis of exactly no evidence, that the Post’s story amounted to a “Russian information operation.”

As the trial unfolds, don’t lose sight of the real issues: the Biden clan’s shameless influence-peddling, which very much implicates Joe Biden; and the Big-Tech–deep-state–corporate-media alliance that removed their graft from public scrutiny and democratic debate ahead of a presidential election. In a sense, the people who supplied the censorship cover—the Silicon Valley executives, the 50 ex-spooks, and their mainstream-media amanuenses—are far guiltier than Hunter Biden.
