Turkish strongman Reccip Tayyip Erdogan has suggested that he could invade Israel in order to protect the rights of Palestinians suffering under the country’s war against Hamas.

Addressing members of his ruling Justice and Development Party in the Black Sea city of Rize where he grew up, Erdogan appeared to threaten the possibility of military action against the Israeli state.

“We should be very strong, so that Israel cannot do this stuff to Palestine,” Erdogan said.

“Just like we entered Karabakh, just like we entered Libya, we can do similar to them,” he continued, a reference to his invasion of neighboring Armenia back in 2021.

“There is no reason not to do it,” he added. “We must be strong to take these steps.”

Erdogan has long been a staunch opponent of Israel, accusing its military of genocide in Gaza. He has previously compared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler and described him as both a “psychopath” and a “vampire.”

Turkey broke off all diplomatic relations with Israel in the early months of the war and has also halted all trade with its Middle Eastern neighbor.

However, Erdogan has never previously gone so far as to propose a military intervention, a move that would inevitably escalate diplomatic tensions and may even lead to a third world war.

Posting on the X platform after his remarks, Turkey’s communications minister Fahrettin Altun attempted to play down Erdogan’s remarks, claiming that his boss had “devoted his life to fighting injustice and cruelty.”

“Our message to Israel is clear: Stop the genocide and accept Palestinian sovereignty if you want lasting peace and security,” he wrote.

“The Israeli leaders are condemning their own people to perpetual war,” he continued. “Their attempts to hide this fact by manipulating public opinion will not work. You cannot hide your war crimes by targeting our leader.”

• Texas Rep. Pat Fallon

While there are a few terrific choices including Rep. Higgins and Rep. Green, he also includes one of the House’s biggest RINOs in Rep. David Joyce and several establishment GOPers.

Moreover, two individuals with impeccable qualifications to investigate the Trump assassination attempt, Arizona Rep. Eli Crane and Florida Rep. Cory Mills, are missing altogether. Crane is an ex-Navy SEAL sniper while Mills is a respected former Army Combat Vet.

Was Johnson worried they would explore whether the incident was a set up to have Trump killed as Mills suggested was a possibility earlier this month?

Harris campaign aide said reporters are being blocked due to a safety protocol.

We’re allowed to talk to people who approach the press pen. Aides have also offered to bring us volunteers — and said we can probably get away with speaking to folks outside the venue. An aide described this as a “safety” protocol that has nothing to do with Trump shooting.

President Biden announced new, sweeping plans on Monday that would reshape the Supreme Court in his image. 

In an opinion piece published by the Washington Post, Biden argued for “three bold reforms” that would fundamentally change the institution as we know it. The most controversial of the three reforms is Biden’s second which would impose 18-year term limits and empower the president to “appoint a justice every two years to spend 18 years in active service on the Supreme Court.”

“We have had term limits for presidents for nearly 75 years,” Biden wrote. “We should have the same for Supreme Court justices.”

Biden’s two other reforms center around presidential immunity and Court decorum. 

The first is a constitutional amendment titled “No One Is Above the Law,” which would counter the Supreme Court’s recent 6–3 ruling on presidential power. That decision at least temporarily helped former President Trump elude persecution by Special Counsel Jack Smith and was panned by the Court’s left-leaning justices.

“In every use of official power, the President is now a king above the law,” warned Justice Sonia Sotomayor, writing for the minority. 

Biden’s final reform would introduce an ethics code following a year in which two conservative justices faced widespread media criticism. 

Associate Justice Clarence Thomas faced outcry following revelations in a 2023 ProPublica investigation that found Thomas failed to disclose private gifts and luxury travel provided by the GOP megadonor Harlan Crow. Associate Justice Samuel Alito was similarly chastised for flying an inverted American flag in the aftermath of the contentious 2020 election. 

Biden’s code calls for justices to “disclose gifts, refrain from public political activity, and recuse themselves from cases in which they or their spouses have financial or other conflicts of interest.”

Biden, who is expected to officially announce his support for the reforms during the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act at the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin, stopped short of calling for the Court’s expansion in his statement. 

“We can and must prevent the abuse of presidential power,” Biden wrote in conclusion. “We can and must restore the public’s faith in the Supreme Court. We can and must strengthen the guardrails of democracy. In America, no one is above the law. In America, the people rule.”

Although Biden’s proposal found early support from Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and other top Democrats, including the presumptive Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, the three reforms are unlikely to gain congressional approval and are considered by many aspirational as Biden faces the sobering reality of his final three months as president.

A former BBC presenter has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children, the London Metropolitan Police has announced.

Huw Edwards, once a darling of the BBC who led the coverage of Queen Elizabeth’s death and subsequent funeral, was originally suspended by the corporation back in 2023 over inappropriate communications with a young man. He later resigned from the position, citing health reasons.

In his final years at the BBC, Edwards was one of its highest paid anchors, with an annual salary of around £435,000 ($565,000).

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement:

Huw Edwards, 62, of Southwark, London has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children following a Met Police investigation.

The offences, which are alleged to have taken place between December 2020 and April 2022, relate to images shared on a WhatsApp chat.

Edwards was arrested on 8 November 2023. He was charged on Wednesday, 26 June following authorisation from the Crown Prosecution Service.

He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 31 July.

Media and the public are strongly reminded that this is an active case. Nothing should be published, including on social media, which could prejudice future court proceedings.

Edwards is accused of having six category A images, the most serious classification, as well as 12 category B pictures and 19 in category C. If convicted, he could face several years in prison.

The charges are another major embarrassment for the corporation, which is entirely funded by the British taxpayer.

Despite its obligation to remain politically neutral, the BBC is known for its aggressive left-wing bias, particularly on matters pertaining to Donald Trump and American politics.

He continued, “I believe Republican leadership in 2025 is our last best hope to restore fiscal responsibility before it’s too late.”

Both political parties have remained largely quiet on this pressing issue. Maya MacGuineas, the president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, told the Washington Examiner, “As we hit this dangerous reminder of our untenable fiscal situation, we are in the midst of a political campaign that is completely void of serious discussion about how to address it.”
