President Trump is trying to craft a deal that Tehran can accept.

There is a large chasm between the Trump administration’s public narrative about the Iran nuclear talks and the true story that is unfolding behind the scenes. The threatening, maximalist public rhetoric serves a more hopeful, cooperative diplomacy.

Perhaps to keep the pressure on, President Donald Trump had already threatened military action if Iran does not make a deal, and last week he accused Iran of dragging its feet and repeated his threat to bomb their civilian nuclear sites. “I think they’re tapping us along,” Trump said after the first round of talks, in Oman.

But despite Trump’s negative assessment, the first round seems to have gone as well as could be hoped. Iran called the meeting “constructive” and “respectful.” The U.S. called it “constructive” and “positive.”

The best evidence that the talks were a success is that the two lead negotiators, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, spoke directly after the meeting. Iran had insisted that direct talks would be contingent on the success of the indirect talks. So initial reports that the two briefly spoke face-to-face were encouraging. Encouraging became hopeful when it was later reported that the two actually spoke for 45 minutes.

A further sign of success is that the first round, intended primarily to establish the format of future talks, led to a second round in Rome. The Rome talks led to an agreement to begin work on a framework for a potential deal, and also to a third round involving technical talks as well as higher-level meetings.

Trump’s pessimistic language of “tapping us along” and his threatening language about military options seem detached from the diplomatic situation and may be intended to push it forward rather than describe it.

The public, maximalist language about the Trump administration’s diplomatic goals also seems at odds with what may be the true story. Trump himself has said the goal is merely preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon: “You know, it’s not a complicated formula. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.” But his team has gone further. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz has said that Iran must be prevented, not only from enriching weapons grade uranium, but from enriching at all. He says the U.S. is demanding “full dismantlement,” that Iran “has to give up its program” and stop “enrichment” all together. “The full program,” Waltz said. “Give it up or there will be consequences.”

Witkoff has seemingly retranslated Trump’s message in a more hawkish register. Last week he wrote on social media that “Iran must stop and eliminate its nuclear enrichment and weaponization program,” calling that “a Trump deal.”

After the second round of talks, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Iran can have a civilian nuclear program. However, he said that they cannot enrich their own uranium but would have to import uranium enriched up to 3.67 percent—enough to run its power reactors for energy but short of the 19.5 percent needed to produce medical isotopes for imaging and treating cancer in its hospitals.

While the U.S. team says the talks center on Iran’s entire enrichment program, Iran has a different idea. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, has fully empowered his team to negotiate with the limit that Iran will not negotiate “the full dismantling of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.”

Once again, there is an important hint that the U.S. team’s maximalist language is masking a more moderate diplomatic reality. That hint comes, not from the statements made by the American or Iranian negotiating teams, but from the statement of the Omani foreign ministry who mediated the talks. The next phase, the statement says, “aims to reach a permanent and binding agreement that guarantees Iran’s full renunciation of nuclear weapons” while “safeguarding… its right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.”

The statement suggests that, behind closed doors, the negotiations are over verifiable limitations on Iran’s civilian nuclear program. Trita Parsi, an Iran expert and executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, told me that the talks are “centered on a verification-based solution.”

The Iran team, stung by their experience of Trump and the U.S. unilaterally pulling out of the previous 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement, is also insisting on discussing “a process for lifting economic sanctions” and “guarantees the U.S. won’t walk away again.”

Iran has already demonstrated, under the JCPOA, its willingness to comply with verifiable limitations on its levels of enrichment. The U.S. should not only try to get a new agreement, but accept that signing a deal means you cannot tear it up on a whim. Despite the threatening, maximalist language of the Trump administration, there are signs that it intends to go that direction—so there is real hope that diplomacy can succeed.

State Department Budget Cuts Don’t Go Far Enough

State Department Budget Cuts Don’t Go Far Enough

The secretary has made a good start, but more fundamental changes are still necessary.

If you had “State Department” on your DOGE bingo card as the next agency teed up, mark yourself a winner. But are tough times ahead for Foggy Bottom?

Secretary of State Marco Rubio unveiled the beginnings of a reorganization of the State Department on April 22, calling the diplomatic agency “bloated, bureaucratic” and “beholden to radical political ideology.” But to some critics, it looks like a good start that still has much further to go to create lasting progress in line with the Trump administration’s view of the changing U.S. role in the world. Among other things, the reorganization does not address any cuts to embassies and consulates abroad, the meat and potatoes of the State Department. One Foreign Service officer said the plan moved a lot of pieces around, but outside of the sleepy democracy and human rights division being gutted, most of the changes were not significant. “I wouldn’t call these sweeping reforms… yet,” the employee said.

The most drastic (but still ho-hum) change is the elimination of the Office of the Under-Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights. Some elements of the office, including the Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor and one for refugees, would be folded into an office for foreign assistance and humanitarian aid, according to a reorganization chart posted on the State Department website. Rubio wrote that the Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor became a “platform for left-wing activists to wage vendettas” against conservative leaders, including in Poland, Hungary, and Brazil, and for promoting an arms embargo against Israel. Rubio also accused the Bureau for Population, Refugees, and Migration of sending millions of taxpayer dollars to non-government groups to promote mass migration, including “the invasion on our southern border.”

Rubio’s plan calls for reducing the total number of domestic State Department offices from 734 to 602, a drop of 17 percent, some 700 positions, though a detailed list has not been published. Rubio also instructed senior officials to reduce the number of U.S.-based employees overall by 15 percent in other individual domestic offices by July. Some once high-profile offices, such as the Iraq War–era Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations, which aimed unsuccessfully to anticipate and prevent global conflict, will be closed. A new Bureau of Emerging Threats will be created, focusing on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

Rubio said the State Department’s size and costs had “soared” over the past 15 years. So future unspecified plans are to combine overlapping offices and eliminate some programs not mandated by Congress. “Region-specific functions will be consolidated to increase functionality, redundant offices will be removed, and non-statutory programs that are misaligned with America’s core national interests will cease to exist,” said Rubio, though he did not give any specifics. In an email to staff, Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau said implementation would be led by an internal working group that would come up with “thoughtful plans” aiming to adopt the changes by July 1.

Rubio’s plan is not much more than a good start. An earlier draft memo (called “fake news” by Rubio, likely written as a trial balloon by outgoing Pete Marocco, who left the State Department after having overseen the elimination of USAID) called for the Trump administration to cut some 48 percent of the State Department’s funding next fiscal year, mostly from its external programs. The draft proposed eliminating almost all funding for international organizations like the United Nations and NATO, ending the budget for international peacekeeping operations, and curtailing all of the department’s educational and cultural exchanges, like the Fulbright Program. It would also have cut funding for humanitarian assistance and global health programs by more than 50 percent.

Many of those drastic changes would have been unlikely to survive Congressional scrutiny; going forward, Rubio still needs to show his hand on low bang-for-the-buck international organization funding and post-WWII soft power programs. No more promoting LGBT rights abroad, or trying to right the world’s ills by pouring taxpayer money over them (though to be fair, Rubio did already cut State’s Office of Global Women’s Issues and its Diversity and Inclusion Office.) This reorganization should be a new day for diplomacy, but—so far—it is not.

There has been some deeper progress, and thus cause for optimism. Even before the budget memo described above reached the White House, the State Department placed all full-time staff from its “censorship office” on administrative leave as the agency moves to shut down the group altogether.

Originally founded by Barack Obama and known then as the Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference Hub, the office within the State Department’s Office of Public Diplomacy supposedly monitored, flagged, and countered content deemed “foreign disinformation.” R/FIMI was created out of the ruins of the closure of its Obama predecessor in December 2024 following a series of First Amendment lawsuits that discovered the Center was demanding that social media companies censor American conservative voices. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described instances when government officials would “scream” and “curse” at Meta employees, threatening repercussions if certain content wasn’t removed.

The center was also used as a cut-out to fund the Global Disinformation Index, a British organization with two affiliated U.S. nonprofits, to feed blacklists to online ad companies with the intent of defunding and shutting down websites peddling “disinformation,” the Washington Examiner reported. This same “disinformation” group received $330,000 from two State Department-backed entities tied to the Center.

With its State Department funding (the first State Department-backed group supporting GDI was the National Endowment for Democracy) GDI identified the 10 “riskiest” news outlets for disinformation to include The American Conservative. You be the judge of the validity of that use of taxpayer money, and the direction American diplomacy was headed.

There’s more to come at State (the layoffs planned for July 1 should be transitional) and reason to call all this a good start—if Rubio follows through and if his domestic cuts are met with similar reshaping abroad.

China Orders Airlines Not to Take Deliveries of Boeing Planes

Chinese airlines are refusing to take delivery of Boeing aircraft amid the ongoing trade standoff between the United States and their country.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg told CNBC on Wednesday that his company had three 737 Max airplanes in China ready for delivery. Boeing has since flown two of the planes back to the U.S. and plans to bring the third one back soon.

“They have in fact stopped taking delivery of aircraft due to the tariff environment,” Ortberg said.

“We have roughly 50 airplanes in our plan this year going into China, so we’re going to be pretty pragmatic with what we do here,” he continued. “For those airplanes that haven’t been built yet, we’ll be looking to maybe redirect those to other customers.”

“For the airplanes that have been built, we call it remarketing. There’s plenty of customers out there looking for the Max aircraft in particular,” Ortberg said. “We’re not going to wait too long. I’m not going to let this derail the recovery of our company.”

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump raised baseline tariffs on Chinese imports to 145 percent and Beijing retaliated with a 125 percent tariff on U.S. goods, according to Reuters.

Trump encouraged Boeing in a Truth Social post to “default China” for refusing to take possession of the planes the companies had previously committed to purchase.

“It better stop, NOW!” Trump wrote.

Presumably, he is arguing for Boeing to find China in breach of contract and seek a legal remedy in court.

CNBC noted that Ortberg’s comments come “after Boeing reported a narrower-than-expected loss for the first quarter and cash burn that came in better than analysts feared as airplane deliveries surged in the three months ended March 31.”

As a sign that trade relations may be thawing between Washington and Beijing, China announced it was exempting certain U.S. imports from its 125 percent tariff, Reuters reported.

The government “is asking firms to identify critical goods they need levy-free, according to businesses that have been notified, in the clearest sign yet of Beijing’s concerns about the trade war’s fallout,” the news outlet said.

Trump also exempted some Chinese imports, including electronics, from the high tariff rate, but they are still subject to the 20 percent tariff to address the ongoing fentanyl crisis.

Washington Post: maybe your reporters should try reading before posting. These products are subject to the tariff under the original IEEPA on China of 20 percent. https://t.co/MI4oDEb8S3

— Stephen Miller (@StephenM) April 12, 2025

Trump told Time that his administration is talking with China, and that Chinese President Xi Jinping called him regarding trade, though Beijing disputes the talks are happening.

“I don’t think that’s a sign of weakness on his behalf,” Trump said of Xi.

“There’s a number at which they will feel comfortable,” he added. “But you can’t let them make a trillion dollars on us.”

You Can’t Hate the Mainstream Media Enough: Watch Martha Raddatz Show Scott Bessent Why the Fake News Can Never Be Trusted (VIDEO)

Martha Raddatz proves once again that the mainstream news can never be trutsted. They don’t even make good entertainment!

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent: When I look at some of the things that are being published, there was a story 10 days ago that said, This is the worst April for the stock market since the Great Depression. Ten days later, the Nasdaq is now up in the month of April, and I haven’t seen a story that says, Oh, stock market has biggest bounce back ever.

Martha Raddatz: It certainly has gone back and forth.

Scott Bessent: I think a lot of this is media-driven.

Of course, Secretary Bessent is correct. The NASDAQ was at 19,278 on May 31, 2025. On Friday the NASDAQ was at 19,432 on April 25, 2025. The NASDAQ is higher than it was at the end of May DESPITE President Trump’s tariffs policy.

NASDAQ history for April 2025. This was a remarkable run.

That is quite remarkable.

But instead of admitting her grievous mistake, Raddatz brushed it off as the markets going “back and forth.”  That is not correct.  The market has performed remarkably this month and EVERYONE in the fake news has egg on their face once again.  Instead of apologizing Raddatz lies again to the American public.

You really can’t hate this fake news media enough!

Elite Universities Form ‘Private Collective’ to Resist Trump’s Crackdown on Higher Education

Credit: Wikimedia Commons

Elite universities have formed a “private collective” to resist President Trump’s crackdown on higher education.

Over recent weeks, the Trump administration has gone to war with several elite universities over their lack of educational and viewpoint diversity, discrimination via DEI and refusal to combat antisemitism.

While Columbia folded to his demands, Harvard has pushed back against the administration and attempted to frame Trump’s threats to remove federal funding as an assault on the university’s independence.

To try and protect themselves, elite universities are now teaming up to try and create a united front against the White House.

The Wall Street Journal reports:

The informal group currently includes about 10 schools, including Ivies and leading private research universities, mostly in blue states. Strategy discussions gained momentum after the administration’s recent list of demands for sweeping cultural change at Harvard, viewed by many universities as an assault on independence.
The collective, as some are calling it, represents a separate, quiet and potentially more potent effort than recent public resolutions from university-aligned groups.
The group comprises figures at the highest levels, including individual trustees and presidents.
Maintaining close contact, they have discussed red lines they won’t cross in negotiations and have gamed out how to respond to different demands presented by the Trump administration, which has frozen or canceled billions in research funding at schools it says haven’t effectively combated antisemitism on their campuses.
The group’s aim is to avoid the fate of some top law firms, where one deal led to others following suit. The universities want to make sure other schools don’t go so far as to strike deals that create a worrisome precedent that others would be under pressure to follow, say the people familiar with the effort.

One major fear among the collective are reports that Trump could escalate his crackdown on Harvard by targeting the flow of international students and faculty, which many elite schools have come to rely on for tuition revenue and prestige.

This prospect is said to have sent shockwaves through university leadership, who now see their business models under threat.

There are also plans to rescind Harvard’s tax-exempt status, which currently saves the instutition billions of dollars a year.

Trump Orders IRS to Draw Up Plans to Rescind Harvard’s Tax-Exempt Status

Should Harvard’s lawsuit fail, the collective fears that more schools will be forced to comply and that the left-wing strangehold over higher education will finally be broken.

Twerking on cars is nothing new in St. Louis.

In 2021 BLM protesters were stopping police cars and twerking on their roofs.

Classy.

JUST IN: Suspect in Deadly Vancouver Lapu Lapu Festival Attack Identified

Deadly attack on Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu festival / screen image

30-year-old Kai-ji Adam Lo was identified as the man who drove his vehicle through the Lapu Lapu Filipino festival in Vancouver on Saturday killing eleven people.

The attack took place in the evening. Multiple people were injured.

Vancouver police ruled out a terrorist attack.

Kai-ji Lo was charged with eight counts of murder according to the Vancouver Sun.

Lo reportedly had a history of mental illness. According to Canadian media, Kai-ji Lo’s brother was murdered last year and his mother later tried to commit suicide.

The investigation is ongoing.

The New York Post reported:

The suspect accused of fatally mowing down 11 festival attendees when he plowed through a crowd of people at a block party in Vancouver was identified as local man Kai-Ji Adam Lo, authorities said Sunday night.

Lo, of Vancouver, is facing eight counts of second-degree murder so far after his alleged rampage at the Lapu Lapu Day festival – celebration of the Filipino community – Saturday night.

The 30-year-old was arrested at the scene by authorities and was “known” to law enforcement and mental health care professionals before he allegedly carried out his deadly attack, Vancouver police said.

The alleged killer has a history of mental health problems and investigators believe the destructive driving was not terror-related, cops previously said.

DOJ Deep State Insiders Continue to Protect the Bidens! Even in Court!!! (VIDEO)

Colorado attorney Kevin Evans has been fighting the Dept. of Justice to release any and all documents related to Hunter and James Biden’s overseas business dealings. That fight continues in Federal Court, even with the Trump Administration taking over. Leaving us asking the question, Does Pam Bondi or Donald Trump even know this lawsuit exists? My assumption is no, and the all out defense of the Bidens and the protection of these documents must be being waged by DOJ “Deep State” insiders.

Evans specifically wants the documents involving financial transactions involving the Bidens, Ukraine, China and Russia that the DOJ may be in possesion of. In 2020 Evans filed a Freedom of Information request. The Justice Department came back claiming they had 400 documents related to his request but refused to turn those documents over. So Evans sued the DOJ demanding the documents. Today, the DOJ, even under Trump, continues to fight the release of those documents. Just this month lawyers for the Government filed another brief with the court in an effort to stop the documents from being released.

What the government claims is nothing short of shocking, hypocritical and flat out false. In this episode of Stinchfield, we uncover the court documents the Deep State doesn’t want you or President Trump to know about.
