CDU leader Friedrich Merz and AfD’s Alice Weidel

The German political establishment was dealt a historic blow this week as Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), failed to secure enough votes in the Bundestag to become Chancellor. The result shattered decades of political precedent and sent shockwaves through a fragile ruling elite already out of step with growing public anger.

Merz, a longtime proponent of the so-called “firewall” policy against the populist Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), received just 310 votes in Monday’s secret ballot, falling six short of the 316 required for an absolute majority, the German newspaper Junge Freiheit reported.

This marks the first time in postwar German history that a candidate failed to secure the chancellorship on the first vote after coalition talks. The CDU and its coalition partner, the increasingly unpopular Social Democratic Party (SPD), control 328 seats, but internal dissent appears to be unraveling the bloc from within.

AfD co-leader Alice Weidel swiftly responded, calling the vote “a good day for Germany.” In a statement, she declared: “Merz is the first chancellor candidate of the Federal Republic of Germany to fail in the first round of voting. This clearly shows how weak and unstable the CDU-SPD pact really is—a pact already rejected by the people at the ballot box.”

Weidel continued, “Merz should resign immediately and clear the way for new elections. The old parties have failed. It’s time for a government that puts Germany first.”

Merz’s defeat comes after months of backroom negotiations with the SPD to form what critics have called a “zombie coalition”—a last-ditch alliance to keep the AfD out of power. Rather than addressing the issues driving AfD’s surge in the polls—mass immigration, economic mismanagement, energy failures, and loss of national sovereignty—Merz doubled down on excluding the AfD, even as his party hemorrhaged public support.

Inside the Bundestag, CDU members were reportedly stunned. German outlet Bild described “visible confusion” among CDU lawmakers, with some pushing for a hasty second vote while others feared another humiliating loss.

Meanwhile, AfD members openly celebrated in the chamber—a reflection of the party’s growing momentum. Recent polls place the AfD ahead of the CDU nationwide, as more Germans lose faith in the traditional parties they see as puppets of Brussels and Berlin’s technocratic elite.

Merz, a former asset manager and corporate insider with deep ties to globalist think tanks, has so far refused to acknowledge the message sent by the vote. No official statement was issued by him after the defeat. Journalist Hans-Ulrich Jörges told Welt TV, “Merz is deeply shocked and sitting in a chair somewhere,” underscoring the uncertainty now gripping Germany’s political class.

According to the German Constitution, a second vote must take place within 14 days. If no candidate gains an absolute majority, a third round will allow the Bundestag to elect a chancellor by simple plurality, but the president could also dissolve parliament and trigger a snap election.

The stock market quickly responded to the instability, with Germany’s DAX index falling 2% by midday. Economists tied to the SPD warned of long-term damage to investor confidence, although others argue the real danger is the continuation of policies that have hollowed out the German middle class.

Calls are growing louder for the CDU to abandon its isolationist stance toward the AfD and embrace the party’s role as the primary opposition voice against a ruling elite increasingly seen as disconnected from ordinary Germans.

Political commentator Ben Brechtken wrote on X, “Germany cannot be governed on this basis. The Conservatives must now talk to the AfD — at least to exert pressure.”

With the next vote pending and Merz’s credibility in freefall, the pressure is mounting. The firewall policy—once the sacred pillar of establishment politics—may soon collapse under the weight of its own hypocrisy. And as Germany faces mounting crises at home and abroad, voters may finally have a chance to chart a new course.

One thing is clear: The old order is crumbling. And the AfD is waiting in the wings.

Another black-robed tyrant has usurped President Trump’s lawful immigration authorities in a fit of anger and arrogance.

As the Associated Press reported, U.S. District Judge Jamal Whitehead, a Biden judge from Seattle, on Monday ordered the Trump administration to admit around 12,000 refugees into America under a court order partially barring the president’s attempts to suspend the nation’s refugee admissions program. At the same time, he ignored the possibility that these refugees could pose a threat to America.

“This Court will not entertain the Government’s result-oriented rewriting of a judicial order that clearly says what it says,” Whitehead wrote Monday. “The Government is free, of course, to seek further clarification from the Ninth Circuit.”

“But the Government is not free to disobey statutory and constitutional law — and the direct orders of this Court and the Ninth Circuit — while it seeks such clarification,” he added.

This means that American lives are now potentially in danger thanks to this rogue judge’s ruling.

The Gateway Pundit reported back in February that Whitehead blocked Trump’s attempts to stop the federal refugee resettlement program, which has been abused for years by Democrat administrations and refugees themselves.

In his ruling, Whitehead said that Trump’s actions were an “effective nullification of congressional will” in setting up the nation’s refugee admissions program.

“The president has substantial discretion … to suspend refugee admissions,” Whitehead stated. “But that authority is not limitless.”

In March, a three-judge panel for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals blocked Whitehead’s February order that would have forced the Trump Administration to restart refugee admissions. Trump was allowed to continue with his pause on all new refugee admissions.

The administration was still required to process the approval of refugees before January 20. The ruling noted that Trump’s executive order had nothing to do with those refugees.

The plaintiffs involved in this garbage lawsuit include the International Refugee Assistance Project, the Jewish refugee resettlement agency HIAS, Lutheran Community Services Northwest, and individual refugees and family members. They claimed that unless Trump’s order were reversed, they would have great difficulty providing services to refugees.

Trump lawyers, though, have rightfully pointed out that the president had explicit constitutional authority to deny entry to foreign nationals who, if allowed into the country, “would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.”

In January, President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 14155, titled “Realigning the United States Refugee Admissions Program,” which suspended the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) effective January 27, 2025.

This order stopped refugees from entering America and barred federal funding to organizations assisting refugees, including those already in the country. The suspension will remain in effect until a determination is made that resuming the program is aligned with U.S. interests.

After all, the EU-liberal establishment forced Romania to cancel the first round of the presidential election that took place last November, proceeding to arrest and indict frontrunner Calin Georgescu, and finally banning him from running in today’s ‘redo’.

The last thing the European ‘powers that be’ were expecting was that another right-winger, George Simion, would sweep the race and come out on top – but that’s exactly what’s happening.

“Romanian hard-right candidate George Simion was ahead in a presidential election first round, followed by centrist candidate Crin Antonescu, an exit poll showed on Sunday.

A separate exit poll put Simion in first place and centrist candidates Antonescu and Nicusor Dan neck and neck in second.”

Simion (right) inherited much of the vote first given to Georgescu (left).

Simion, leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, had come in fourth place in the annulled vote, but he inherited Georgescu’s votes and surged to first place.

He is now projected to win the first round of Romania’s presidential election, with more than 30 percent of the vote.

Politico reported:

“It was not immediately clear which candidate would place second, with establishment figurehead Crin Antonescu and centrist Bucharest Mayor Nicușor Dan battling to face Simion in the runoff. Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta is set to finish in fourth place, the exit polls say.

The exit poll projections are not official results, which are expected to start coming in from Romania’s election authority in the next few hours. The exit polls also do not reflect votes cast by the Romanian diaspora abroad.”

Romanians took to the streets ‘en masse’ to protest the cancelled elections, and have voted again on the right.

“The election results are being closely watched in Brussels and Washington, as Romania has become the latest battleground between the hard right and political establishment. Simion has unapologetically badged himself as a supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ movement.”

It’s never a smart move to try to school a man who occupies the most powerful position and has been incredibly successful in business for decades. A far-left NBC anchor learned this the hard way.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Trump sat down for a one-on-one interview at Mar-a-Lago with NBC’s “Meet the Press” far-left host Kristen Welker. The interview, taped for Sunday, covered various topics focusing on Trump’s incredibly successful first 100 days in office.

With the cost of living on every American’s mind, Welker tried to insinuate that Trump’s economic policies were failing Americans, claiming he was responsible for prices rising on a select few items, as she ignored the larger picture.

“Prices are already going up on some popular items,” she alleged. “Tires, strollers…”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Trump exclaimed. “This is such a dishonest interview already!”

Trump quickly listed other products whose prices are declining across the country, which have a greater impact on Americans’ lives than tires and strollers.

“Prices are down on groceries, prices are down on oil…Prices are down at tremendous numbers for gasoline,” he explained.

Trump then roasted Joe Biden for spending like “a stupid person” before revealing what “killed America” regarding inflation.

“He spent like a stupid person, which he was, that was bad for inflation,” he said. “But what really killed us with inflation was the price of energy.”

“It went up to $3.90, even $4.00,” Trump continued. “I have it down to $1.98 in many states!”

Trump continued to educate Welker on what is really happening with prices around the country, including mortgage rates, before she rudely interrupted.

“You say some prices are going down, some prices are going up,” Welker claimed. “Tires, strollers, some clothing, in the wake of your tariffs…”

“That’s peanuts compared to energy!” Trump fired back. “Energy is 60% of the cost!”

Welker then tried to imply that Trump had broken his campaign promise of bringing down costs while continuing to yammer about strollers before Trump corrected her again.

“Gasoline is thousands of times more important than a stroller,” Trump explained. “And they’re getting (relief). Even mortgage rates are going down despite the fact that we have a stubborn Fed.”

The fight for the 2028 GOP nomination will begin within the next few years. President Trump has named a couple of people he thinks could ultimately succeed him as the party’s standard-bearer and explained why he’s now completely ruling out seeking an unprecedented third term.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Trump sat down for a one-on-one interview at Mar-a-Lago with NBC’s “Meet the Press” far-left host Kristen Welker. The interview, taped for Sunday, covered various topics focusing on Trump’s incredibly successful first 100 days in office.

Toward the interview’s close, Welker asked Trump who he sees succeeding him as President.

“I know we are only 100 days in, but as we sit here today, who do you see as your successor, Mr. President?” She inquired.

Trump responded by first mentioning Vice President JD Vance, who is considered the odds-on favorite as the 2028 Republican Presidential nominee.

“It’s far too early to say that, but I do have a vice president and typically would be – and JD’s doing a fantastic job,” Trump replied.

However, Trump declined to endorse Vance as his successor and then named another person rising fast as a MAGA favorite.

“It could very well be. I don’t want to get involved in that,” he said. “I think he’s (Vance) a fantastic, brilliant guy.”

“Marco (Rubio) is great,” Trump added. “There’s a lot of them that are great. I also see tremendous unity.”

Between the two, Trump suggested Vance would ultimately hold an advantage just because of his position in government.

“Certainly, you would say that somebody’s VP, if that person is outstanding, I guess that person would have an advantage,” Trump explained.

Trump also ruled out any suggestion that he could run for an unprecedented third term. As The Gateway Pundit’s Jordan Conradson reported, Trump has occasionally flirted with the idea.

“I will say this. So many people want me to do it. I have never had requests so strong as that. But it’s something that, to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do,” he explained. “I don’t know if that’s constitutional and if it allows you to do it (seek a third term).”

“But this is not something I’m looking to do. I’ll be an eight-year president. I’ll be a two-term president. I always thought that was very important,” he continued. “This is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican.”

On May 2, 2025, Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) dealt a resounding blow to the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party, officially classifying it as a “proven right-wing extremist”, enabling the German state apparatus to conduct active surveillance, starting with the tapping of its leaders and their private communications. The image of the Stasi springs to mind. This decision marks an escalation in the German elites’ crusade against a political formation that, since its creation in 2013, has consistently upset the established order.

An expected verdict with far-reaching consequences

The AfD’s classification as a right-wing extremist comes as no surprise. For years, the party’s regional federations in Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt, as well as its youth organization, the Junge Alternative, had already been labeled as such by the regional offices of the BfV (Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz). What’s new is the extension of this classification to the entire party, now deemed “unconstitutional” due to its “contempt for human dignity” and “hostility towards migrants and Muslims” (sic). According to the Office, the AfD’s ideology is incompatible with Germany’s fundamental democratic order. Disturbing detail: the evidence for these allegations is not published by the BfV. In other words, the report is secret. Isn’t it a founding principle of the rule of law that accusations should be made public, so that the accused can respond to them? Here again, the methods of the Stasi come to mind.

This decision comes at a politically sensitive time. In the parliamentary elections of February 2025, the AfD achieved a historic breakthrough, winning over 20% of the vote and coming in second behind the “conservatives” — not so — of the CDU. In recent polls, Alice Weidel’s party has even overtaken the CDU, threatening the hegemony of the traditional parties. This success, particularly marked in the Länder of the former East Germany, reflects a deep-seated dissatisfaction with migration policies, European bureaucracy and the country’s economic management. Yet, far from responding to these concerns through debate, the German establishment has opted for administrative and police repression.

A witch hunt under the guise of democracy

One can’t help but see this decision as a political containment operation. The AfD, with its anti-immigration, eurosceptic and climate-sceptic rhetoric, represents an existential threat to the soft consensus that has dominated Germany for decades. By classifying it as extremist, the BfV is not just monitoring a party; it is sending a clear message: any dissent from the multiculturalist, globalist orthodoxy will be criminalized.

The BfV’s justifications are revealing. The AfD is accused of “devaluing entire groups of the population”, a vague formula that could be applied to any criticism of migration policies. Equally vague and specious, the party is stigmatized for its rejection of the “culture of repentance” towards Germany’s past. The AfD is punished not for what it does, nor its program, but for what it represents – a revolt against “progressive” dogma.

Implications for German democracy

This ranking raises fundamental questions about the future of German democracy. By placing under scrutiny a party that represents one in four voters (26% according to the latest polls), the BfV risks radicalizing its supporters, who already perceive themselves as second-class citizens, particularly in Eastern Germany. As political scientist Wolfgang Schroeder points out, this verdict could paradoxically strengthen the appeal of the AfD, which portrays itself as the victim of an oppressive system

Equally worrying is the debate on a possible ban on the AfD, revived by this decision. Such a measure, which would require a complaint to the Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe, would be the end of the German democracy. Banning a party as popular and programmatically moderate as the AfD, which has managed to capture the disarray of a broad swathe of the population, would plunge Germany into an unprecedented political crisis. If the German deep state were to ban one of Germany’s leading political parties, what would be left of German democracy?

A lesson for Europe

The AfD affair goes beyond Germany’s borders and sounds a warning for Europe. Across the continent, so-called “populist” parties – from France’s Rassemblement National to Fratelli d’Italia – are gaining ground by exploiting the flaws in a system perceived as out of touch. In Germany, the AfD has turned frustration over the 2015 migration crisis, the war in Ukraine and energy dependency into powerful electoral fuel.

This success of new parties is no accident, but the logical consequence of the betrayal of the people by their “elites”. By imposing unpopular migration policies, ceding national sovereignty to Brussels and stifling debate – energy, gender – under the weight of political correctness, European governments have created a vacuum that parties like the AfD have rushed to fill.

Conclusion: the Stasi state, guardian of democracy?

By brandishing the scarecrow of the Nazi past, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is not protecting democracy, but muzzling it. The surveillance of the AfD, far from being an act of vigilance, is an attempt to disqualify the legitimate opposition. As U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has denounced, this decision establishes Germany as ‘tyranny in disguise’. In a democracy worthy of the name, ideas – especially shocking ones – must be combated through debate, not administrative arbitrariness.

The stigmatization of the AfD as “right-wing extremist” is less a verdict on the party than an admission of failure by the German elites. By opting for repression rather than democratic debate, these elites are confirming the accusation levelled at the AfD: that of a system that has lost touch with the voice of the people

According to Brazilian authorities, a plot to bomb a Lady Gaga concert in Brazil on Saturday night was foiled. A person in connection to the plot is now in custody. A hate group, posing as “Little Monsters” fans, planned to attack with IEDs and Molotov cocktails, according to reports.

The organizers attempted to recruit young Brazilians to coordinate the bombings.

The concert, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Copacabana Beach, drew a record-breaking crowd of 2.5 million people according to Variety.

City Hall put on the free concert in an effort to boost local economic activity.

The recruiters falsely identified themselves as members of Gaga’s global fan base, known as “Little Monsters,” as a way to lure fans into “networks with violent and self-destructive content,” the Brazilian Justice Ministry said.

Rio state police intelligence uncovered digital networks that encouraged violent behavior used coded language and extremist symbols to communicate their vile message, authorities said.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Trump sat down for a one-on-one interview at Mar-a-Lago with NBC’s “Meet the Press” far-left host Kristen Welker. The interview, taped for Sunday, covered various topics focusing on Trump’s incredibly successful first 100 days in office.

As expected, Welker repeatedly tried to entrap Trump with a series of gotcha questions, which he handled with aplomb. At one point in the interview, she used one to vilely insinuate that Trump was running America like a dictator.

“What do you say to those who believe you are taking the country down an authoritarian path?” Welker inquired.

Trump responded to this nasty ‘question’ by first channeling Ronald Reagan as part of his brilliant answer.

“Well, there you go again,” Trump retorted. “Why don’t you ask in a different way?”

Trump then pointed out how many immigrants are doing whatever they can to legally enter America, and it’s in large part because they love what he is doing.

“Many people want to come into our country,” Trump explained. “Many people love Trump.”

Trump next reminded Welker that the American people overwhelmingly elected him and that he is carrying out what he promised to do.

“I won the election, they (my critics) didn’t win the election,” he said. “I won the popular vote, I won ALL seven swing states by A LOT.”

Trump proceeded to make a colorful reference to the voter fraud he overcame to achieve his historic victory before turning back to roast Welker again.

“Actually, I thought there was a lot of hanky panky going on, but it was too big to rig,” he added. “So, when you make these statements, ‘people say this, people say that,’ well, they had their chance at the election and they lost big.”

Upon hearing this, Welker tried to interrupt, but Trump quickly cut her off.

“You should ask the question differently,” he told her. “You should say what about the people who want to be in this country?”

Welker then laughably claimed she was just trying to give Trump a chance to respond to his enemies. Trump again gave an excellent answer.

“These people are going to be very happy,” he said. “It was an absolutely unprecedented 100 days.”

President Trump joined Kristen Welker on Meet the Press this Sunday morning for some reason.

As you may recall, during the second presidential debate in 2020, Joe Biden and hack reporter Kristen Welker teamed up against President Trump.

At one point during the debate, Joe Biden interrupted Welker for his planned response to the Hunter Biden ‘Laptop from Hell’ scandal. Joe Biden boasted to the audience that 50 intelligence leaders signed a letter saying the laptop was “Russian propaganda.”

This was a lie and Joe Biden knew it was a lie.

The 51 spies who lied openly to the American public.

The intel leaders all lied. They knew it was a lie. Joe Biden knew it was a lie. The media knew it was a lie.

The Gateway Pundit also knew it was a lie because we had reports, emails, video, and disgusting photos from the laptop that were clearly images and video of Hunter Biden, his hookers, his crack cocaine, and his “business” emails to foreign dignitaries. We were first to publish much of this information on our website.  It was completely accurate. The media was lying to the American public once again.

After Joe Biden became president, we learned that his Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, organized the massive lie that Russia was behind the Hunter’s laptop story.

It was Tony Blinken who was in charge of collecting signatures from corrupt and partisan Trump-hating intelligence officials to sign off on the letter that the laptop was a Russian op.

Blinken, a very unimpressive man, was later awarded the Secretary of State position for organizing this elaborate lie.

It should be noted that the legacy media was more than happy to push this complete lie on the American public in the weeks leading up to the 2020 election.

President Trump has since forgiven Kristen and joined her for an interview that aired this weekend.

During the interview, President Trump announced that he was going to build a world class ballroom at the White House. He told Welker he would pay for it himself and with money from private donors.

Watch this story disappear within 24 hours.  The fake news will bury it and we all know it.
