Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal Shares’ Sob Story’ About ICE Supposedly Abusing Pregnant Illegal and It Backfires when the Migrant’s Chilling Background Emerges

Far-left Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) ended up red-faced earlier this week after she tried to defend an illegal alien supposedly mistreated by ICE when the horrifying truth regarding her misdeeds was unveiled.

On Wednesday, the Nashville Banner wrote a sob story about a pregnant illegal alien named Iris Dayana Monterroso-Lemus from Guatemala, who was arrested by ICE in Tennessee in late April and then sent to an ICE facility in Louisiana.

The paper went on to allege Monterroso-Lemus received lackluster prenatal care while in custody and ended up losing her baby.

Look at this biased, so-called ‘reporting’ from the Nashville Banner:

On Mother’s Day this year, Iris Dayana Monterroso-Lemus found herself alone in Guatemala, a country she hadn’t called home in more than a decade. At 38, the once-vibrant, curly-haired woman seemed withered and shaken.

After she was arrested by ICE in Lenoir City, she ended up at the Richwood Correctional Center in Louisiana, where she experienced the unimaginable. After pleading for medical help for days, she lost her mid-term pregnancy.

“I had him inside here for three days, in this Louisiana facility, my baby dead in my stomach, inside my stomach for three days, dead,” she said.

The publication went on to connect this tragic circumstance to President Trump daring to enforce immigration laws.

Monterroso-Lemus’s experience in detention comes amid the Trump administration’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants and the mounting claims of abuse and discrimination tied to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests across the country. In Nashville, ICE and the Tennessee Highway Patrol officials recently made 588 traffic stops in predominantly Latino neighborhoods as part of a joint operation that led to the arrests of 196 undocumented residents.

Despite claims that ICE was only targeting criminals, fewer than half had prior criminal records. As the Banner reported, in the overnight operation between May 3 and 4, THP made more than twice as many traffic stops as Metro Nashville police did during both days combined, fueling allegations of racial profiling.

Jayapal promptly seized on the story and amplified it across social media.

“A pregnant woman lost her baby after ICE refused to give her prenatal care. She begged for help and was denied,” the congresswoman wrote on X. “She was fed food full of cockroaches. She was forced to sleep on the floor. “

“This is absolutely disgusting, and we should all be outraged.”

However, the story was not only false, but the paper neglected to tell the real story of Monterroso-Lemus.

In a tweet to Jayapal, Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin first pointed out that Monterroso-Lemus was provided complete and full prenatal care despite the claims otherwise.

More importantly, the Trump Administration had good reason to remove Monterroso-Lemus from America. McLaughlin went on to drop the chilling truth about the ‘poor, abused’ migrant, and it should infuriate any decent human being.

Monterroso-Lemus had a rap sheet composed of multiple felonies, including child abuse. Moreover, she is wanted on an active warrant for homicide.

This criminal record is even worse than Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s, yet Jayapal still sought to defend this demon. Will cartel bosses be next?

Powerful Video of Syrian Christian Woman Speaking from Site of Bombed Orthodox Church

A powerful video of a Syrian Christian woman giving a moving speech at the site of the Greek Orthodox Mar Elias Church in Damascus has gone viral.

Islamic suicide bombers attacked the church on June 22, killing over 20 congregants and injuring dozens more. Syrian officials attributed the attack to the Islamic State.

According to witnesses, the bomber entered the church with a gun and fired at people before detonating his explosive vest.

In the video, the woman declares that she and her family will never flee their home or their country despite repeated attacks on Christians.

“Now they tell me to take my kids and flee to Europe, it’s impossible for me to leave my town, my country, my Christianity, my culture,” she shared.

“I was raised here, I want to die here.”

She highlighted that her Christian faith is based in faith and love.

“My religion is a religion of love, a religion of love,” she said.

“We are truly Christian. Honestly, we love the enemy before the friend. We forgive and pardon, we love even those who hurt us.”

Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) is fast emerging as one of the brightest young stars of the Republican Party with a series of star-turning performances at congressional hearings.

On Wednesday, he displayed this talent while facing off against a so-called “DEI expert” named Dr. Shaun Harper during a congressional hearing called “Sacrificing Excellence for Ideology: The Real Cost of DEI.”

Harper is a University of Southern California professor who specializes in research focused on racial and gender equity and inclusion, according to his school biography. Naturally, he served as the House Democrats’ witness during the hearing.

Gill immediately sought to expose Harper as a complete fraud by asking a handful of simple questions that someone with his experience should be able to answer without issue.

These included:

Do you believe America should be a color-blind society?

Should race be considered in employment practices?

Which race should be preferred in hiring practices?

Harper failed to properly answer these questions once and was left stumped completely at one point. Due to this, Gill was able to make a complete mockery of the witness and the whole racist practice of DEI.

GILL: Do you believe that America should be a color-blind society?

HARPER (hesitates): I…

GILL: Should people be treated differently based on their race? It’s a yes or no question.

HARPER: It’s not a yes or no question…People should receive the services, support, and remedies that are owed to them because of systemic racism (in our society).

GILL: Do you believe that race should be considered in employer hiring practices”

HARPER: I do not believe that white people are the only qualified people…

GILL: I did not ask that. I asked if race should be considered in employer hiring practices. And you’re not going to intimidate me by slandering me as a racist.

HARPER: I did not call you a racist…

GILL: It’s a yes or no question. Should race be considered in employer hiring practices?

HARPER: I believe that diversity should be considered by companies and other organizations…

GILL: I’ll take that as yes. Which race do you think should be preferred?

HARPER: I do not believe that a single race should be preferred.

GILL: You just said that race should be considered in employer hiring practices.

HARPER: There’s going to be a transcript of this hearing. I did not say that.

GILL: Why don’t you explain what you believe?

HARPER: What I believe is the demographic composition of workplaces in our nation’s military…Our Congress ought to reflect…

GILL: The racial demographic composition. Is that what you are saying?

HARPER: Race, gender…

GILL: So, race should be a factor in employer hiring practices. Is that what you’re saying?

GILL: You’re dodging the question. Who gets to determine which races are preferred?

HARPER (long pause): I,I, already told you I don’t have a single…

GILL: You just told me that the racial demographic should be taken into account in hiring practices.

HARPER: And it should be reflected in all companies and levels of hiring organizations.

GILL: If two people are applying for college. One is white and one is black. Should they be evaluated based on the same objective criteria?

HARPER: I can’t answer that question for you as a proponent of holistic education.

Socialist NYC Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani Wants to Fund His Radical Plans by Hiking Property Taxes in ‘Richer and Whiter Neighborhoods’

Socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani plans to fund his radical transformation of the city if he is elected: he will hike property taxes for “richer and whiter neighborhoods.”

The policy memo, ‘Stop the Squeeze on NYC Homeowners,’ promises to address a “deeply inequitable system, using the full power of the mayor’s office to both address the system directly and working with legislators at the state level to win necessary reforms” by “shift[ing] the tax burden from overtaxed homeowners in the outer boroughs to more expensive homes in richer and whiter neighborhoods.”

Republican National Committee’s Research responded to the “Zohran Mamdani – Democrats’ socialist candidate for New York Mayor – wants to shift taxes to ‘whiter neighborhoods.’ This is the face of the Democrat party.”

Even Democrats are nervous about how this will play with the public.

Democratic commentator Brianna Wu said, “Here we go. Zohran proposing taxing people more based on race. Specifically white people.”

“Love that this man is going to represent Democrats nationally in the public mind. This is going to go well.”

Among the things Mamdani is pushing is a plan to spend $65 million in taxpayer money on ‘gender affirming care’, including for minors.

TGP’s Antonio Graceffo reported extensively on Mamdani’s communist agenda, including plans to open government-funded shops in New York City, selling food below market prices, paid for with tax dollars.

This isn’t “progressivism.” It’s straight-up communism.

The foreign-born communist with deep ties to terrorist organizations, Zohran Mamdani, just won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City and is poised to unleash the most radical economic destruction ever attempted in an American metropolis. The 33-year-old Uganda-born assemblyman, who co-founded anti-Israel terror groups and refuses to condemn calls for violence against Jews, defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo in a stunning upset. His victory should alarm every American as a warning sign of how far the Democratic Party has drifted toward communist economics and terrorist sympathies.

With his $10 billion tax-and-spend agenda designed to destroy free markets and his extensive connections to Hamas-supporting organizations, Mamdani’s potential election as mayor would hand control of America’s largest city to forces actively working to undermine both capitalism and national security.

Race-baiting Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) made a wicked personal attack on First Lady Melania Trump’s qualifications and intellect during a House hearing, and it completely backfired on her via a surprising source.

After slamming President Trump’s immigration policies during Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing, Crockett decided to make things personal and go after his wife to paint the GOP as hypocrites.

“Since we’re talking about integrity, I’m confused as to why my Republican colleagues aren’t talking about the lack of integrity when it comes to the president’s family’s visas, she whined.

“Melania, the First Lady, a model, and when I’m talking about model, I don’t mean Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, or Naomi Campbell-level, applied for and was given an EB-1 visa,” she added. “And what that stands for is an Einstein visa.”

WATCH:

Crockett, who is not exactly an Einstein, then attempted to explain how one obtains this visa while suggesting that the First Lady got one through suspicious means.

“Now, y’all that don’t know, let me tell you how you receive an Einstein visa. You’re supposed to have some sort of significant achievement, like being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize or a Pulitzer, being an Olympic medalist, or having other sustained extraordinary abilities and success in sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics”, she stated.

Last time I checked, the first lady had none of those accolades under her belt. It doesn’t take an Einstein to see that the math ain’t mathin’ here.”

The Cato Institute’s Alex Nowrasteh, who was testifying at the hearing, interjected by saying, “Not everybody could marry Donald Trump, and I think that’s quite an achievement, so I think she deserves credit for that. Nobody up here could have done it!”

Crockett responded: “You sure are right, I couldn’t have done it.”

Melania moved to the US in 1996 on a tourist visa, which was then converted into a work visa as she started pursuing her modeling career in New York City. She received her Einstein visa in 2001, four years before marrying Donald Trump.

The Einstein visa rewards people with “extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics through sustained national or international acclaim.”

The candidate then must fit three of the ten criteria as required by the U.S. government:

• Evidence of receipt of lesser nationally or internationally recognized prizes or awards for excellence
• Evidence of your membership in associations in the field which demand outstanding achievement of their members
• Evidence of published material about you in professional or major trade publications or other major media
• Evidence that you have been asked to judge the work of others, either individually or on a panel
• Evidence of your original scientific, scholarly, artistic, athletic, or business-related contributions of major significance to the field
• Evidence of your authorship of scholarly articles in professional or major trade publications or other major media
• Evidence that your work has been displayed at artistic exhibitions or showcases
• Evidence of your performance of a leading or critical role in distinguished organizations
• Evidence that you command a high salary or other significantly high remuneration in relation to others in the field
• Evidence of your commercial successes in the performing arts

Following Crockett’s rant, an old New York Times article went viral. It turns out the liberal paper interviewed several lawyers in 2018 while investigating Melania’s “Einstein” status.

And guess what? Most thought she deserved the visa.

For example, Atlanta lawyer Marshall Cohen, who specializes in EB-1s, told the Times he would have taken Melania on as a client without hesitation.

“I am assuming she made a lot of money, got a lot of press, and was on the cover of magazines,” he said. “She was probably a pretty easy case.”

“Do we need more foreign fashion models? Some might say no,” Cohen added. “We might need more chemical engineers. But if there is a fashion model at the top of her field, she could qualify.”

Customs and Border Protection Raid Human Smuggling Hub in Los Angeles Linked to Iranian Terror Suspects (VIDEO)

A massive human smuggling ring with Iranian terror ties was busted up by the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), raising more concerns about potential terror sleeper cells in America as the Iran-Israel war continues.

The CBP revealed on Friday night that it had executed a federal search warrant at a human smuggling hub in Los Angeles tied to national security threats from Iran.

During the operation, two people were arrested thanks to a combined effort from the CBP’s Special Response Team, Border Patrol tactical units, and Air and Marine Operations.

CBP noted that seven Iranian nationals were arrested at the same address earlier in the week. These included ones on the FBI Terror Watchlist and associates of an Iranian human trafficking network.

The agency also said that the house has been repeatedly used to harbor illegal aliens linked to terrorism.

This news comes as the Trump Administration made a massive nationwide bust just a few days ago, which sent shockwaves across the Internet.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday arrested 11 Iranian nationals found to be living in the country illegally, including individuals with suspected terrorist ties and significant criminal histories.

These individuals were apprehended from eight states, including Minnesota, Mississippi, Alabama, California, New York, Colorado, and Texas.

Five of those detained carry records of serious offenses—including drug possession, grand larceny, firearms charges—underscoring ongoing concerns about repeat offenders overstaying visas or exploiting parole pathways.

While Trump and his team deserve remarkable credit for sweeping these dangerous thugs across the street, there are likely still several more Iranian terror cells left unaccounted for. This is all thanks to the Biden regime throwing open our borders for four years to alter the racial and political makeup of America.

If one of these Iranians pulls off an attack on our country, all the blood will be on the hands of Biden and his handlers.

China’s Answer to WEF Davos: Summer Meeting of the New Champions Advances Beijing’s New World Order Vision

As you read this article, 1,700 participants from over 90 countries are gathered in China, discussing how Beijing can displace the United States as the world’s richest and most powerful nation.

Every June, while Western elites gather at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos to push globalist agendas, China hosts its own rival summit: the Annual Meeting of the New Champions, or Summer Davos. Marketed as a forum for innovation and entrepreneurship, the event serves a deeper purpose, advancing Beijing’s long-term plan to dismantle the U.S.-led international order.

Behind the veneer of business networking and technological cooperation, China uses Summer Davos to promote a multipolar world where Western influence declines, Chinese leadership rises, and China ultimately replaces the U.S. as the global hegemon.

Summer Davos began in 2007 as a collaboration between the World Economic Forum and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Its effectiveness lies in its veneer of legitimacy: operating under the WEF brand makes it easier for international participants to attend without appearing to endorse Chinese political positions. This allows Western corporate elites to engage with China’s strategic agenda while maintaining plausible deniability.

The 2025 meeting in Tianjin made this purpose unmistakably clear, as more than 1,700 participants from over 90 countries convened, the underlying message centered on “navigating a future less intertwined with Washington.”

Summer Davos began in 2007 as a collaboration between the World Economic Forum and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). What makes Summer Davos particularly effective is its veneer of legitimacy. Operating under the WEF brand, makes it easier for international participants to attend without appearing to endorse Chinese political positions. Therefore, Western corporate elites can engage with China’s strategic agenda while maintaining plausible deniability. The 2025 Tianjin meeting made China’s strategic intent clear: “navigating a future less intertwined with Washington.”

The attendee list reads like a who’s who of globalist corporate power. Major consulting firms that shape Western economic policy, including Deloitte as a Strategic Partner and Bain & Company as regular participants, send senior executives to these annual gatherings. McKinsey & Company’s Chairman for Greater China regularly appears on panels, while technology giants like Intel have leveraged the forum to announce massive investments, including a $2.5 billion semiconductor facility in Dalian. European aerospace giant Airbus used Summer Davos as the platform to establish its first final assembly line outside Europe, extending the partnership through 2025. Even more concerning, major Western financial institutions and consulting giants use these gatherings to legitimize China’s economic model while helping Beijing develop alternatives to American-led global systems.

Perhaps most telling is the regular presence of Klaus Schwab himself, the WEF founder and architect of the “Great Reset”, who personally attends Summer Davos closing ceremonies. His participation represents the ultimate validation of China’s challenge to Western-led globalism, as the very figure undermining national sovereignty lends his support to Beijing’s alternative world order.

Summer Davos is just one part of China’s broader effort to reshape the global order. Beijing has built a parallel international system through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and the Global Security Initiative. Launched in 2013, the BRI now includes 146 to 150 countries and over $1 trillion in infrastructure loans, fostering debt dependence while constructing strategic ports, railways, and telecom networks with both civilian and military uses.

The BRICS coalition poses a direct threat to dollar dominance. What began as an informal alliance of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa has expanded to ten members, adding Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the UAE, plus nine partner nations, including Cuba, Belarus, and Malaysia. This bloc now represents about half the global population and over 41% of world GDP, with a stated goal of reducing reliance on the U.S. dollar in trade.

China has also militarized its economic challenge through the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a ten-member security bloc including Russia, Central Asia, India, Pakistan, Iran, and Belarus. The SCO controls 20% of global oil and 44% of natural gas reserves, while conducting joint military drills and counter-terror operations.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), with 110 members, including most U.S. treaty allies and key NATO and G7 nations, directly challenges the Japan-led Asian Development Bank, a cornerstone of American influence in Asia since 1966. With China holding 27% of voting shares and $100 billion in capital, the AIIB provides developing nations a clear alternative to Western financial institutions and their governance standards.

More insidiously, China’s Global Security Initiative, backed by over 100 countries, adopts Russia’s “indivisible security” doctrine, the same justification Moscow used to invade Ukraine. This framework allows Beijing to frame a Taiwan invasion as an issue of national sovereignty and an internal affair, warning that no outside nation, especially the U.S., should interfere. It also enables the Chinese Communist Party to denounce NATO expansion and U.S. alliances as destabilizing, while presenting itself as a peaceful alternative to American “hegemony.”

Summer Davos serves as a strategic recruitment and testing ground for all of these initiatives and China’s anti-Western agenda, floating new proposals, refining its messaging, and pulling international participants deeper into its orbit through economic incentives and soft power. The forum doubles as both laboratory and launchpad for Beijing’s global ambitions, enabling the CCP to test ideas and cement the alliances needed to displace American leadership.

Victim Blaming: UK Judge Uses Violence Committed Against Man as Evidence of His Guilt

A man in London was convicted of a “religiously aggravated public order offense” after HE was attacked by a triggered radical.

Hamit Coskun, a Kurdish-Armenian asylum seeker, was fined over $300 after burning a Quran outside the Turkish consulate as a protest against Turkey’s Islamist government.

Moussa Kadri attacked Coskun with a knife, knocked him down, and kicked him.

But it is Coskun, the victim of a physical attack, who is being punished.

The Westminster Magistrates’ Court held Coskun responsible, citing the violent reaction as evidence of his guilt.

Judge John McGarva stated, “Burning a religious book, although offensive, to some is not necessarily disorderly.”

“What made his conduct disorderly was the timing and location of the conduct and that all this was accompanied by abusive language. There was no need for him to use the ‘F word’ and direct it towards Islam.”

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) noted the irony of the attacker’s actions being used to convict the victim.

From FIRE:

Coskun ignited a new round of debate over blasphemy in the UK after burning a Quran outside London’s Turkish consulate and yelling “F*** Islam” and “Islam is a religion of terrorism,” which he has since repeatedly claimed was a protest against “the Islamist government of Erdoğan,” Turkey’s president. In response, Kadri attacked him with a knife, knocked him to the ground, and kicked him while he was down.

But there’s a particularly disturbing element to this case. Namely, the judge’s justification for the conviction. The “disorderly” nature of Coskun’s protest, the judge said, “is no better illustrated than by the fact that it led to serious public disorder involving him being assaulted by two different people.”

That’s right, a man’s violent attack on another was cited as evidence of the victim’s guilt.

Coskun’s lawyer had argued that the prosecution amounted to an attempt to bring back a blasphemy law abolished in England in 2008.

The Conservative Party noted, “Blasphemy laws have no place in Britain. Yet this verdict creates one de-facto.”

“Parliament never voted for it. The British people do not want it.”

“This decision is wrong.”

‘Reached a Breaking Point’: Police Officers Ambushed in Senseless Act, Community Livid

Two police officers were shot Thursday during an ambush in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, sparking outrage in their community.

The two were taken to a hospital, where one of them remains in critical condition.

A suspect was taken into custody early Friday morning, and will likely face criminal charges from the Milwaukee District Attorney’s office, WITI-TV reported.

Assistant Police Chief Nicole Waldner said the officers were in an alley and were unable to return fire at the suspect.

One officer, who is only 29, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another young police officer, who is 32, is in critical condition, WISN-TV reported.

“Two of my officers shot today and one of them was very critical. I mean, we almost lost an officer tonight,” Milwaukee Police Association President Alexander Ayala told WITI. “This is unacceptable.”

The MPA responded to the shooting with a statement saying, “It is with profound sorrow and outrage that we confirm that two Milwaukee police officers were tragically shot and critically injured in the line of duty tonight.

“Our thoughts are with these officers, their families, friends, and colleagues. These officers face unimaginable suffering and they have long roads ahead of them.

“This senseless act of violence has struck the very heart of our department and our community,” the statement continued. “We have reached a breaking point. Violence in our city is out of control, and those who protect our neighborhoods are increasingly in the crosshairs.”

The association said five officers have been killed in the line of duty over the past seven years, “and dozens of our officers have been shot and shot at while trying to serve our neighborhoods.”

“Our officers wear the badge with pride and honor,” the MPA concluded, “but our officers need more leadership from the city to bring an end to this violence.”

This is partly the result of Democrats’ war on law enforcement, where they villainize anyone wearing the uniform and call for them to be defunded at every turn.

This news comes just days after Democrats in America’s largest city nominated Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani, whose past social media posts declared that the police need to be defunded to ensure “queer liberation,” and that we should “ban all guns.”

Waldner eerily echoed Mamdani’s gun stance, saying, “The problem is too many people have guns.”

Banning guns is not the solution to limiting violence, nor is defunding the police. In fact, those actions would have the opposite effect.

Not only do gun bans deprive law-abiding, taxpaying citizens of the ability to defend themselves, but criminals tend to find ways around such laws, gaining the upper hand.

If guns weren’t available, it would likely be knives, as we’ve seen in Europe. If not guns or knives, it could be Molotov cocktails. The issue is rooted in socio-economics and requires a deeper solution than a simple blanket ban on firearms.

It was in poor taste for the police chief to embrace political posturing as two young officers who fight on the front lines struggle to recover.

Milwaukee County District Attorney Kent Lovern struck a different chord, saying: “Everyone in our community deserves to live in safety each and every day.”

He added, “And that obviously includes the men and women who we entrust [as] police officers to help keep our neighborhood safe. Everyone deserves to live in safety in our neighborhoods every day.”

Local leaders said community members were feeling pain and frustration from the incident, as well they should.

The police are not perfect — no one ever is. Yet they are the thin blue line separating civilized society from dangerous criminals.

When they make mistakes, they should be held accountable. But these declarations of hate from certain factions of the Democratic Party will likely lead to more incidents like this.

Combined with their soft-on-crime approach, the current liberal vision of America — as shown in high-crime cities — is not a place where the majority of voters want to live.

Waste of the Day: California Fueled Immigration Advocacy

Topline: Los Angeles has dominated the news cycle as residents protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s efforts to deport illegal immigrants, but the California state government has been funding the same cause for years.

California gave $73.6 million to five nonprofits in 2023 and 2024 that are involved in immigration advocacy and deportation defense, OpenTheBooks found in a new report.

Key facts: The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, or CHIRLA, received $35.2 million from California. Local attorney Laura Powell says the group leads the Los Angeles Rapid Response Network, a hotline where members of the public send in tips about the location of ICE agents so activists can respond. Powell also claims the group has a “close relationship with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.”

CHIRLA also runs the “Wise Up!” program, an “initiative to organize high school students — both undocumented and allies — around immigrant rights.” CHIRLA’s CEO Angelica Salas accepted a salary of over $201,000 in 2023.

The Immigration Legal Resource Center received just under $30 million from California. Its website states the group has “expertise” in helping “immigrants with criminal convictions” avoid deportation, and its advocacy focuses on “dismantling the arrest to deportation pipeline and disrupting racial disparities in the immigration and criminal legal systems.” Three of the nonprofit’s top employees earn more than $260,000.

The Services, Immigrant Rights and Education Network received $772,800 of funding from the state’s Department of Social Services. Its website explains that one of the group’s goals is to “shift the political landscape in Northern California and the Central Valley by mobilizing immigrant and youth vote in elections.”

Two similar nonprofits, the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area and the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, received $7.1 million and $631,600 of taxpayer funding, respectively.

Background: The five nonprofits are just a sampling of what is listed in the California checkbook, a line-by-line list of state expenditures. California concealed its checkbook from taxpayers for years until OpenTheBooks sued the State Controller in 2020.

Summary: With California and Los Angeles facing huge budget deficits, it may be time for the state to focus less on nonprofits that encourage violating immigration law and more on services that directly benefit taxpayers.
