GOP on Life Support in Virginia Governor Race

November appears to be a foregone conclusion in the Commonwealth.

The news out of Virginia is bleak. 

After four years of solid leadership from Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, the Virginia GOP is poised to lose every major statewide race this November. New polling released by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) on Thursday reveals a grim reality for Republicans as gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears trails former Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger by double digits in the general.

Just as concerning are the down ballot races where Republicans are also struggling mightily against the Democrats. Jason Miyares, the incumbent attorney general and a once-promising figure among young American conservatives, is down 9 points to former state Democratic Del. Jay Jones. John Reid, the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor and a former talk show host who has been embroiled in an embarrassing scandal, trails state Democratic Sen. Ghazala Hashmi by 10. 

Following the dismal numbers, Earle-Sears, who anchored Youngkin’s 2021 ticket, fired campaign manager Will Archer, a pastor with no previous political experience. Earle-Sears has struggled to match her challenger’s impressive fundraising and the poor numbers from VCU are further evidence that she is failing to find her footing on the campaign trail sans Youngkin. Spanberger has led Democrats to a record-breaking fundraising haul this year, pulling in a commanding $10.7 million in the second quarter alone. Earle-Sears, in comparison, raised $5.9 million during the same period. In total, Spanberger has raised more than $27 million while Earle-Sears has taken in less than $12 million. 

And living in the Commonwealth, that money gap shows. We are five months out from the election and ads for Spanberger are wall to wall on the local TV channels. Spanberger, a former intelligence officer at the CIA and graduate of the University of Virginia, leans into her centrist zeal in the spots promising Virginians that she will work in a bipartisan manner to “lower costs and make sure our schools prepare all our kids for jobs of the future.” Spanberger’s selling point is simple: She looks and speaks like a Central Virginia suburban mom while touting the professional accomplishments of a late career bureaucrat. 

Spanberger has found easy favor with the Acela-corridor Virginians just south of DC who work for the federal government and are frustrated by President Donald Trump’s decision to slash federal jobs. Spanberger has tactfully attached herself to the issue, even authoring an opinion piece in Fox News that was published Friday. Democrats, already angry and motivated following the 2024 election, view her campaign as a vessel to fight and stand against the Trump administration and Spangberger’s numbers reflect that the strategy is working.

Earle-Sears, on the other hand, has grappled with identity issues on the campaign trail. A black immigrant born in Jamaica who grew up in the Bronx and served as an electrician in the U.S. Marines, Earle-Sears has struggled as much as any Republican in recent memory to capture the black vote. VCU’s poll finds that Earle-Sears is losing the black vote to Spanberger by 63 points, suggesting she has struggled to connect with voters outside the Republican moat. Even within the moat, where her gun-toting bona fides were heralded in the 2021 election, Earle-Sears has struggled to gain traction with a base that isn’t as outwardly MAGA as other statewide Republican coalitions.

Earle-Sears is also a noted social conservative who opposes same-sex marriage and once called abortion “genocide” on the campaign trail. In Virginia, a state whose electorate has increasingly swung left on social issues in the high-density population centers outside Richmond and DC, opposing same-sex marriage and abortion is a tough sell in 2025. And on the topic of same-sex marriage, Earle-Sears is well to the right of her own ticket. Republican candidate for lieutenant governor John Reid, a gay man, said on Wednesday that he would support repealing the state constitution’s ban on same-sex marriage. 

With less than five months until the election on November 4th, Earle-Sears has limited options to turn the tide of the race. One hope is that Youngkin, who is polling with a healthy 49 percent approval, will become more active and join Earle-Sears on the campaign trail in October. But Youngkin, who is also polling well in a potential senatorial matchup with incumbent Democrat Sen. Mark Warner, has shown a reluctance to throw his political capital in with Earle-Sears, especially given her increasingly narrow path to victory. 

It’s a shame for Republicans who had been an afterthought in Virginia statewide politics for nearly 15 years before Youngkin’s shock elevation to the governor’s mansion in 2021. Then, the Covid pandemic and education reform dominated the headlines, two issues that favored the ascendent GOP. Republicans capitalized on the chaos with a balanced ticket that promised both the stability of Youngkin paired with the anti-establishment fervor of Earle-Sears and Miyares. With Youngkin term limited and thus unable to run for reelection, the responsibility to appeal on more moderate issues has fallen to Earl-Sears, who has failed to meet the moment. 

Though there is still time for her to pick up votes, Earl-Sears’ campaign must find a way to make up for an enthusiasm gap within the motivated electorate. Democrats view the off-year election as a referendum on Trump’s White House and are keen to use their votes to make a statement. Earl-Sears also must make up ground on core economic issues that have come to define Spanberger’s campaign. Though Youngkin’s office has done a tremendous job pitching Virginia as a high-growth state that is attractive for businesses, Earle-Sears has focused much of her campaign on public safety, promising to lock up violent criminals. Spanberger’s campaign, in comparison, has highlighted the affordability crisis of Virginians who are struggling with higher rent and grocery prices. 

The party in the White House has lost every Virginia gubernatorial race except one in the state since 1977. For Earle-Sears and the Republicans in Virginia, it’s going to take a miracle to break that streak.

Mexicans Tell Yanks To Go Home

Frustration with the realities of immigration runs both ways across the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Here we speak Spanish!” “Gringos, go back to your country!” “Mexico for Mexicans!” read the signs of angry demonstrators on the streets of Mexico City earlier this month. Discontent with rising housing costs in the city and the ever-increasing presence of American expatriates led to an outbreak of violent protests in the tony neighborhoods of La Condesa and La Roma, where fashionable restaurants and digital nomads have become ubiquitous.

Mexicans have long resented the intrusion of their northern neighbors into the capital, but the expansion of remote work after the Covid-19 pandemic and the increasing number of retirees have put significantly more pressure on Mexico City’s real estate market, which combines the attractions and amenities of high urban life with a low cost of living—at least when your paycheck or bank account is denominated in dollars. The influx has infuriated locals, who have suffered the cost in increasing rents and cost of living.

Lower-class Mexicans have suffered the most. Areas of Mexico City that were traditionally home to working-class Mexicans have been bought up by investors and foreigners and turned into tourist shops, bars, expensive restaurants, and—most hated of all—Airbnbs. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Airbnbs in Mexico city has exploded by over 170 percent, the vast majority of which are regular homes and apartments that have been converted into tourist accommodations. Housing expansion in the city has been nowhere close to keeping up, and as a result the median rent has skyrocketed 45.7 percent since 2020. Many locals have had to pack up and head to the outskirts of the city to find affordable housing, a circumstance which has naturally led to disdain for tourists and foreigners among the native population. Many feel like they are being colonized by American interlopers (a common theme in Mexican politics).

Things came to a head over the weekend of July 4, when planned protests against gentrification and tourism turned into a riot as some participants began smashing the facades of tourist-oriented businesses and restaurants. Others vandalized upscale neighborhoods with graffiti or stickers telling tourists and foreigners to “get out of Mexico.”

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed sympathy towards the frustrations of the protestors, but condemned the outburst for its xenophobia. “There cannot be a call, however legitimate its cause—which in this case is gentrification—a call to ‘Leave!’ for whatever nationality in our country.”

As a result of the public outrage, the government of Mexico City has released a 14-point plan to improve the city’s housing situation. The plan includes restrictions and regulations on temporary housing arrangements like Airbnb, a city body to resolve landlord-tenant disputes, and a number of rent-control provisions that would make it illegal to raise rents above a certain yearly cap.

Ironically, the measures being contemplated by the capital may simply exacerbate the situation—economists have concluded that there is substantial empirical evidence that rent control regimes contribute to further housing shortages by making it unprofitable for developers to build new housing, further restricting supply where an expansion is most needed. It may help to prevent further gentrification, by making tourist hospitality unprofitable, but it will also squeeze native Mexicans who need housing in the city.

The furor American immigrants have aroused in Mexico City is another demonstration that it is not just the U.S. grappling with the results of increasing globalization in the Western hemisphere. “Pay taxes, learn Spanish, respect my culture,” read one protestor’s sign—demands reflecting a common sentiment that American immigrants refuse to assimilate into Mexican culture and nationhood. Many Mexicans feel like American expatriates are simply taking advantage of the economic disparity between the two countries and have no interest in Mexico itself or in becoming a part of the Mexican people, an argument that will sound familiar to anyone versed in the debates over immigration in the United States, where immigrants waving Mexican flags and speaking Spanish has been a source of tension and criticism.

The irony of Mexicans protesting against American tourists and immigrants in Mexico City as the U.S. attempts to clear its own borders of illegal immigrants, many of whom are from Mexico, was not lost on the Trump administration. “If you are in the United States illegally and wish to join the next protest in Mexico City, use the CBP Home App to facilitate your departure,” the Department of Homeland Security posted on X.

Trump is keeping his promise regarding Americans wrongfully imprisoned around the world.

The US diplomacy scored another win as 10 American hostages held in Venezuela were freed, as well as a large number of political prisoners of the socialist regime of Nicolas Maduro.

In exchange, El Salvador sent all the Venezuelan detainees to its maximum-security prison.

Associated Press reported:

“The arrangement represents a diplomatic achievement for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, helps President Donald Trump in his goal of bringing home Americans jailed abroad and lands El Salvador a swap that its president had proposed months ago.”

While the AP report says it’s a victory for Maduro, in fact, after he initially refused to receive his deported countrymen, he has now done that, only having to pay a price for them.

“Bukele said his country had handed over all the Venezuelan nationals in its custody. The Venezuelan government said it had paid a ‘steep price’ by having to release the U.S. nationals but was pleased to have its own jailed citizens back.”

“Central to the deal are the more than 250 Venezuelan migrants being freed by El Salvador, which in March agreed to a $6 million payment from the Trump administration to house them in a notorious Salvadoran prison.

[…] Among the Americans freed Friday was 37-year-old Lucas Hunter, whose family says he was kidnapped in January by Venezuelan border guards from inside Colombia, where he was vacationing.”

On Friday, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard  released newly declassified presidential briefing documents that prove that puts Barack Obama at the center of the Trump-Russia collusion narrative hoax.

It was recently reported that former FBI Director James Comey, CIA Director John Brennan, and DNI James Clapper worked together to purposely corrupt the Trump-Russia investigation in 2016 before Trump entered office.

Today we discovered what we all suspected — Barack Obama was in on it too and leading the coup against President Trump!

Documents prove that Barack Obama knew it was a hoax and he was involved in manufacturing and politicizing the intelligence to create the Trump-Russia collusion canard.

The Obama Administration knew that Russia did not interfere with the 2016 election, but they pushed the hoax through their friends in the fake news media.

The O’Keefe Media Group on Friday released undercover video of a Johnson & Johnson lead scientist and executive admit that baby power contained cancer causing heavy metals.

This is the second undercover video in OMG’s series exposing Johnson & Johnson.

Joshua Rys, a Regulatory Affairs Scientist who managed Johnson & Johnson’s baby products spilled the truth to an OMG undercover journalist.

“When I started, actually I started working on the consumer group. Johnson’s was one of my brands. So I managed all the baby products. So actually, when that all happened, I was working on that,” said Joshua Rys.

Rys continued, “It wasn’t actually the product itself, it was an impurity. So naturally talc comes from mines, and the mines don’t have, I guess, 100 percent accurate standards. So the heavy metals, it’s not the talc itself that gives you the cancer, it’s the heavy metals that are in there.”

The O’Keefe Media Group on Tuesday released undercover video of a lead scientist at pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson admitting the Covid vaccine was not safe and effective.

Joshua Rys, lead regulatory scientist for Johnson & Johnson, told an OMG undercover journalist that the J&J Covid vaccine was rushed to market without much research.

Fox News senior national correspondent Kevin Corke has suggested that former President Barack Obama committed seditious conspiracy during the 2016 election.

Corke quoted a post about the news that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has found, “There was a treasonous conspiracy in 2016 committed by officials at the highest level of our government.”

On Friday, Gabbard declassified documents revealing the Obama administration “manufactured and politicized intelligence” to push the Trump/Russia hoax.

In a long thread on X, Gabbard explained how Obama was directly involved in the “treasonous conspiracy.”

“On January 6, 2017, just days before President Trump took office, DNI Clapper unveiled the Obama-directed politicized assessment, a gross weaponization of intelligence that laid the groundwork for a years-long coup intended to subvert President Trump’s entire presidency,” Gabbard said.

These documents detail a treasonous conspiracy by officials at the highest levels of the Obama White House to subvert the will of the American people and try to usurp the President from fulfilling his mandate.

Gabbard called for the prosecution of former President Barack Obama and others involved, asserting that the fabricated intelligence damaged U.S. national security and public trust. She wrote, “These documents detail a treasonous conspiracy by officials at the highest levels of the Obama White House to subvert the will of the American people and try to usurp the President from fulfilling his mandate.”

The documents show that U.S. intelligence agencies under Obama assessed that Russia played no role in influencing the election outcome through cyberattacks or other means, both before and after the vote.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded on Thursday to questions about Rep. Maria Salazar’s Dignity Act, which would give illegal aliens a path to citizenship or renewable seven-year legal status. 

Leavitt told the Daily Caller’s Reagan Reese that the President had not seen the legislation and that he “will not support amnesty for illegal aliens in any way.”

I’m curious what the White House’s position is on the legislation, and if the President would veto this bill, if it made it to his desk?

Leavitt: From my understanding, the White House, nor the President, has actually read through this legislation. We’ve been focused on, of course, the One Big Beautiful Bill, which passed, which is another historic accomplishment of this president in record time, the genius act this week, the rescissions package, that’s been the focus of the White House, but the President has made it very clear he will not support amnesty for illegal aliens in any way.

The President has said that he does not support amnesty, but his administration is doing a “work program.” Lori Chavez-Deremer, who previously co-sponsored the Dignity Act in 2023, has said the work deal will include “streamlining” the process for aliens through the work visa program.

This comes after Charlie Kirk claimed on his show that the President was being pressured by “high-level people” to sign a bipartisan mass amnesty deal to grant amnesty for 25 million+ people who are in our country illegally.

It is unclear exactly what the terms of the President’s work program would entail, and Leavitt wouldn’t say.

When asked a follow-up question on the President’s idea of a work deal versus amnesty, given his and Deremer’s support for a bill that would “streamline” work visas for illegal aliens, Leavitt repeated the same answer she had already given.

Conradson: Just a follow-up on Reagan’s question, Representative Salazar’s bill grants illegal aliens legal status for seven-year increments. It also gives a permanent path to residency for so-called dreamers. And, you know, President Trump and Labor Secretary Chavez, who previously co-sponsored a version of this bill when she was in the House, they’ve spoken about a work deal similar to the bill, I believe. What’s the difference between your work deal and amnesty?

Leavitt: look, as I told, Reagan, the President, the White House, have not reviewed this specific piece of legislation. It’s just not where our focus has been, but the President, for one, has been very clear he does not support amnesty.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Rep. Salazar’s Dignity Act would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens who are currently living and working in the United States.

Salazar said in a press conference on Wednesday that “over 10 million people, or more,” will benefit from her amnesty bill, while repeating the Democrat talking point that “we will not have food by this Friday” without them.

She even admitted that “yes, they broke the law.”

The bill would give a seven-year legal status, which can be renewed, to illegal aliens and “legal status and a path to permanent residency” to so-called “dreamers.”

It would even give protections and a pathway to citizenship for criminals like El Salvadoran MS-13 gang member Kimar Garcia Abrego, who the Trump Administration is still trying to deport after a judge ordered his return from an El Salvadoran prison.

L.A. Mayor Karen Bass has been caught promoting a hoax, claiming that law enforcement took a woman from her car and held her in a warehouse without due process.

She’s a mother from L.A. — taken out of her car on her way to work, and then held in a warehouse as officers hoped she would “self-deport.”

The truth is, the woman at the center of the story made it all up. She faked her own kidnapping and then tried to fundraise off the hoax.

The Gateway Pundit reported,

On Thursday, the Justice Department announced charges against Yuriana Julia Pelaez Calderon, 41, a Mexican illegal living in Los Angeles, for faking an ICE “kidnapping” to garner sympathy and solicit donations.

In June, Calderon’s family and friends, alongside anti-ICE activists, held a rally for the “mom of three,” claiming she had been “abducted” by bounty hunters, and then ‘pressured’ to sign the voluntary self-deportation paperwork.

Following the family’s press conference,  a fundraising page was set up to “help” Calderon.

Now, Calderon has been charged with conspiracy and making false statements to federal officers and is in U.S. immigration custody.

United States Attorney Bill Essayli stated, “Dangerous rhetoric that ICE agents are ‘kidnapping’ illegal immigrants is being recklessly peddled by politicians and echoed in the media to inflame the public and discredit our courageous federal agents.”

“The conduct alleged in today’s complaint shows this hoax ‘kidnapping’ was a well-orchestrated conspiracy. The defendant and all those involved will face the full consequences of their conduct under federal law. I thank our partners at Homeland Security Investigations and all federal agents facing unprecedented levels of assaults for once again providing cool heads and professionalism during these difficult times.”

Despite the hoax being uncovered, Mayor Bass has not yet deleted her post.

President Donald Trump has directed the Department of Justice to propose a rule that will create an avenue to restore gun rights for certain Americans barred from firearm ownership.

In a press release, the DOJ said the rule would address the “ongoing infringements of the Second Amendment rights of our citizens—all of them.”

“Federal law disables the firearms rights of many citizens who have been convicted of crimes without regard to whether they actually pose a threat of violence,” the DOJ said. “But federal law also empowers the Attorney General to restore Second Amendment rights to individuals who are not ‘likely to act in a manner dangerous to public safety.’”

The proposed rule will provide many citizens with an avenue to restore their gun rights, while keeping firearms out of the hands of dangerous criminals and illegal aliens.

“For too long, countless Americans with criminal histories have been permanently disenfranchised from exercising the right to keep and bear arms—a right every bit as constitutionally enshrined as the right to vote, the right to free speech, and the right to free exercise of religion—irrespective of whether they actually pose a threat,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “No longer.”

The department explained that “Ultimate discretion to grant relief will remain with the Attorney General, and she will exercise that discretion on a case-by-case basis in light of all available facts and evidence that bear on an individual’s application. But absent extraordinary circumstances, violent felons, registered sex offenders, and illegal aliens, in particular, will remain presumptively ineligible for relief.”

“General Bondi’s support of the rebooted 925(c) program is consistent with President Donald J. Trump’s promise to the American people to support the beautiful Second Amendment,” said U.S. Pardon Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr.

Martin added, “My team and I are developing a 925(c) program landing page with a sophisticated, user-friendly platform for Americans petitioning for the return of their gun rights, which will make the process easier for them.”

In the United States, federal law prohibits individuals convicted of felonies from possessing, shipping, transporting, or receiving firearms or ammunition, a restriction primarily outlined in the Gun Control Act of 1968. The ban still applies to people whose crimes were nonviolent.
