The Legal Battle Over Sanctuary Cities: A Question of Constitutional Authority

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

The debate over the legality of sanctuary cities is intensifying, with major jurisdictions such as Los Angeles and Chicago instructing their law enforcement officers to resist federal immigration enforcement.

Under current law, the Constitution assigns responsibility for immigration policy to the federal government, with federal immigration law preempting state attempts to enact their own distinct immigration policies. The Constitution grants Congress plenary power over immigration, creating a presumption that federal law should take precedence.

Sanctuary laws exist at state, county, and municipal levels across the country, typically limiting whether and how state or local authorities may cooperate with federal immigration authorities. The California Values Act is one example, prohibiting officials from inquiring into an individual’s immigration status, detaining someone at the request of federal immigration officials (detainers), or providing release date information from local custody.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, as of January 7, 2025, thirteen states and hundreds of cities and counties had adopted some form of sanctuary laws. In response, at least twelve states passed legislation banning sanctuary policies.

On January 20, 2025, President Trump signed executive orders denying federal funds to “so-called ‘sanctuary’ jurisdictions” that interfere with federal law enforcement. Soon after, the Assistant Attorney General directed prosecutors to investigate state and local officials who resist or obstruct immigration-related commands.

The White House argued that sanctuary policies violate federal statutes on obstruction of justice (18 U.S.C. 1501 et seq.), harboring or hiring illegal aliens (8 U.S.C. 1324), and conspiracy against the United States (18 U.S.C. 371–372). DHS Secretary Kristi Noem warned, “These sanctuary city politicians are endangering Americans and our law enforcement,” while Attorney General Pamela Bondi said such policies “impede law enforcement and put American citizens at risk by design.”

Federal courts have pushed back. On April 24, 2025, a judge blocked the administration from withholding funds from 16 sanctuary jurisdictions. The administration has also filed lawsuits against Illinois, Cook County, and the city of Chicago.

The strongest constitutional argument for sanctuary jurisdictions is the Tenth Amendment’s anti-commandeering doctrine, established in New York v. United States (1992) and Printz v. United States (1997). This principle holds that the federal government cannot compel state or local governments to enforce federal law. As Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in Printz, “The Federal Government may neither issue directives requiring the States to address particular problems, nor command the States’ officers, or those of their political subdivisions, to administer or enforce a federal regulatory program.”

The Trump administration’s attempt to block California’s Values Act failed: the Ninth Circuit upheld the law, the Supreme Court declined review, and similar statutes have been sustained nationwide. Even the conservative Fifth Circuit upheld a Texas law targeting local sanctuary ordinances, ruling that “the Tenth Amendment prevents Congress from compelling Texas municipalities to cooperate in immigration enforcement.”

Immigration detainers further illustrate this principle. Courts have ruled that detainers are requests, not orders. The Third Circuit held that “immigration detainers do not and cannot compel a state or local law enforcement agency to detain suspected aliens.” Any attempt to convert them into mandatory orders would be unconstitutional under the anti-commandeering doctrine. Moreover, keeping individuals jailed after state custody ends violates the Fourth Amendment, which requires a prompt probable cause determination by a magistrate. Both Los Angeles County and New York City have paid millions in settlements for unlawful detentions under immigration detainers.

Funding threats face similar constitutional limits. In NFIB v. Sebelius (2012), the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government cannot attach coercive funding conditions that force state compliance. Denying all or most federal funds to sanctuary jurisdictions to compel immigration enforcement could therefore be unconstitutional.

8 U.S.C. § 1373 provides that “a Federal, State, or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from” federal immigration authorities “information regarding the citizenship or immigration status … of any individual.” Critics argue this preempts sanctuary policies, claiming local laws that bar communication with DHS are unlawful. But the statute is narrow: it prevents states from blocking the sharing of immigration status, yet does not require states to collect such information. California’s sanctuary statute, for instance, restricts officials from inquiring into immigration status but does not prohibit sharing it if known. It also bars disclosure of other details, such as release dates, which federal law does not mandate since they are not “information regarding … citizenship or immigration status.”

This debate unfolds against significant enforcement challenges. As of July 21, 2024, ICE’s docket listed 662,566 noncitizens with criminal histories, including 647,572 undocumented individuals without federal supervision. Critics contend sanctuary policies force ICE into more dangerous field arrests instead of custody transfers from jails.

Sanctuary jurisdictions argue the anti-commandeering doctrine protects their refusal to assist federal enforcement. That protection, however, does not extend to active violations of federal law. Under 18 U.S.C. § 1071, it is a felony to harbor or conceal “any person for whose arrest a warrant or process has been issued … so as to prevent his discovery and arrest, after notice or knowledge of the fact that a warrant or process has been issued,” punishable by up to five years in prison for felony warrants.

Similarly, 8 U.S.C. § 1324 criminalizes efforts to “conceal, harbor, or shield from detection” undocumented persons, or to “encourage or induce” illegal entry. In United States v. Hansen, the Supreme Court narrowly interpreted “encourage or induce” to cover only the purposeful solicitation or facilitation of specific acts known to violate federal law. Circuit courts have likewise required affirmative conduct for a harboring conviction, not mere non-cooperation. Thus, the Trump administration would need to prove states are actively harboring criminals, a case it may try to build by pointing to state-issued welcome notices and taxpayer-funded support for undocumented immigrants.

Trump Blames Euro-Globalist Leaders for Sabotaging Peace Process Between Russia and Ukraine: REPORT

Donald J. Trump blames Euro-Globalists for the lack of progress in peace efforts.

Trump knows very well who the false friends are.

As we see little to no progress between Russia and Ukraine in the peace process initiated after the historic Donald J. Trump-Vladimir Putin in Alaska, we watch MSM reporters and Euro-Globalist heads of state endlessly calling for the US to impose additional sanctions and tariffs on Moscow.

But the American president knows very well how these same journalists and politicians are working tirelessly to undermine and sabotage the peace efforts.

Axios reported:

“Senior White House officials believe some European leaders are publicly supporting President Trump’s effort to end the war in Ukraine, while quietly trying to undo behind-the-scenes progress since the Alaska summit, Axios has learned.”

Two weeks after the Anchorage summit, Trump administration lay the blame for the lack of progress on European ‘allies’, and not on Trump or even Putin.

“White House officials are losing patience with European leaders, whom they claim are pushing Ukraine to hold out for unrealistic territorial concessions by Russia.

“’The Europeans don’t get to prolong this war and backdoor unreasonable expectations, while also expecting America to bear the cost’, a top White House official told Axios. ‘If Europe wants to escalate this war, that will be up to them. But they will be hopelessly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory’.”

Trump team believes Europeans are pushing Volodymyr Zelensky to wait for a ‘better deal’ — while Russia advances ever more rapidly, and the Ukrainian defenses are on the verge of collapsing.

“’Getting to a deal is an art of the possible’, the top official said. ‘But some of the Europeans continue to operate in a fairy-tale land that ignores the fact it takes two to tango. […] We are going to sit back and watch. Let them fight it out for a while and see what happens’, the official said.”

Some US officials now reportedly see Euro-Globalist leaders as a major obstacle for peace.

Muppet Maxine Waters Calls To Get Aggressive & Remove President Trump From Office | Drew Hernandez

On August 29, 2025, Muppet Rep. Maxine Waters appeared on MSNBC’s The Weeknight and called for invoking the 25th Amendment to determine President Donald Trump’s unfitness for office, citing his recent actions as evidence that “something’s wrong with this president.” Her remarks were prompted by Trump’s removal of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, whom he accused of misrepresenting mortgage information, an action Waters warned could “upend the entire economy.” Waters emphasized the need to act aggressively, stating, “I would suggest that we move very aggressively to talk about the danger to this country and to our democracy and not play around with this.”

She described Trump’s conduct as “extraordinarily dangerous” and “the makings of a dictator who is trying to control the entire economy.” In the interview, Waters criticized the firing as a “flagrant” violation of the Constitution, urging Trump’s cabinet to intervene despite acknowledging they might not comply. This call echoes her broader TDS about Trump’s leadership, with Waters asserting that such moves threaten financial stability and democratic norms.

WATCH: Dr. Sebastian Gorka Buries CNN Hack After Catching Her Using Deceptive Data, Including From Her Network, to Dismiss Deadly Attacks on Christians by Transgenders

Credit: CNN Screenshot

The corporate media has been working overtime to downplay the trans terrorism last week at a Catholic School in Minnesota because it did not fit the narrative they were hoping to push. One CNN host ended up getting wrecked, though, after trying to pull this stunt this morning.

As The Gateway Pundit’s Jordan Conradson reported, a shooting occurred Wednesday morning at Minneapolis, Minnesota’s Annunciation Church and Catholic School.

According to reports, students were attending an all-school mass on Wednesday morning when the gunfire started. Two children were killed, and 14 were injured, while three adults were also wounded.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed that the shooter, who died of a self-inflicted wound, was a male in his early 20s. He has been identified as Robin Westman, a deranged anti-Christian transgender leftist who wrote “kill Donald Trump” on one of his firearms.

On CNN’s State of the Union, guest host Brianna Keilar hosted Dr. Sebastian Gorka, the deputy assistant to President Trump and senior director for counterterrorism, to discuss the despicable act of terrorism. She attempted to play down the clear pattern of attacks on Christians by the trans community by deliberately obscuring facts on mass shootings to make it appear like it was a rare circumstance.

But Gorka quickly noted the huge problem with he data set Keilar was using: she was including trans terorism in her data with gang violence, which has nothing to do with ideology.

When one removes gang violence, one deals with a much smaller data set.

WATCH:

KEILAR: Um, so let me ask you about this. When you are looking at the U.S. Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center looking 172 mass attacks in the U.S. between 2016 and 2020. 96% of the attackers were non-trans men.

So I know you’re focusing on the shooter being trans, uh, the shooter was trans, and that is certainly of note. But are you missing the bigger picture here when you zero in on that…And you perhaps miss through line that connects them all?

GORKA: Well, no, because your facts obfuscate two things: You are using data based on the predominant gun violence, which is gang-on-gang violence with zero ideological content.

If you remove all of that, the gang violence on the streets, then you come down to a much smaller data set. So, it’s like those who say ‘gun violence in America causes so many deaths’ and then fail to note the majority of the stats they are using also refer to suicides by gun, which, of course, is not what we are talking about here today.

So let’s concentrate on mass shootings at schools, especially Christian or Catholic schools; then the data set is wholly different. So, don’t conflict with different datasets just to make a political point.

There was an ideological content to this attack. that’s what terrorism is. It’s not becuase somebady didn’t get the drug deal they wanted. It is an ideological message.

That has nothing to do with gang violence. Let’s not mix the two things up.

Keilar, then tried to to use CNN ‘facts’ on schoool shooting since 2020 involving transgender individuals but this quicly backfired as well when Gorka called her out and pointed out CNN’s constant lies during that time.

KEILAR: By CNN’s count, when you look at 32 school shootings sicne 2020, only three were committed by transgender shooters.

GORKA: yeah, forgive me if I don’t go with CNN’s stats, okay?”

CNN has proven itself to be wholly inaccurate in all kinds of things for the last ten years. Perpetrators of the Russia Russia hoax, and that we didn’t have an open border. So please forgive me if I don’t take your stats for granted.

KEILAR: It’s simple math, two of 32…

GORKA: It’s not simple math. It’s distortion. You are distorting the facts.

Let me be clear, in just a couple of years, we have seen seven mass shootings involving people of transgender nature or who were confused in their gender. SEVEN in just the last couple of years. That is inordinately high.

I’m going to stick with the facts and not CNN’s pseudo-facts.

Chicago Mayor’s Order to Resist ICE: “Protecting Chicago Initiative” Makes the City More Dangerous

Charles Edward Miller, Chicago, United States. Licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0 via Wikimedia Commons.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order on Saturday, August 30, 2025, called the “Protecting Chicago Initiative,” in response to anticipated federal immigration raids and the possible deployment of the National Guard by the Trump administration.

Ironically, he believes he is protecting Chicago by sheltering illegal aliens, including those with criminal histories, and by refusing to support law enforcement efforts. How this makes the city safer remains unclear.

The order prohibits the Chicago Police Department from assisting federal authorities with civil immigration enforcement, including patrols, traffic stops, and checkpoints, and bars collaboration with military personnel on local police duties. It also requires federal officers to follow municipal policies, such as banning the use of masks to conceal identities.

The directive further instructs city departments to “pursue all available legal and legislative avenues to resist coordinated efforts from the federal government” that may infringe on the rights of Chicago residents.

This raises the question of whether illegal immigrants should be considered residents, what rights they possess, and whether they are entitled to protection from federal law enforcement. No comparable program exists to shield American citizens who commit crimes from federal officers.

White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson accused Mayor Brandon Johnson of suffering from “Trump derangement syndrome,” after Johnson called the administration “out-of-control” and accused the president of acting “outside the bounds of the Constitution.”

The mayor makes these claims, but immigration enforcement is not “outside the bounds of the Constitution,” and an administration enforcing existing laws is not “out of control.” What is out of control are Chicago’s illegal immigration and violent crime problems, precisely why stronger enforcement is needed.

Chicago has maintained sanctuary city policies for nearly 40 years, beginning with Mayor Harold Washington’s 1985 executive order. The current framework is the “Welcoming City Ordinance,” enacted in 2006, expanded in 2012, and tightened in 2021 to eliminate all cooperation with ICE. At the state level, Illinois passed the Trust Act in 2017, extending sanctuary protections statewide and prohibiting local officials from inquiring about immigration status or assisting in federal enforcement.

Illinois is home to about 500,000 illegal immigrants, including 30,000 DACA recipients and tens of thousands of recent arrivals. Since August 2022, roughly 51,000 migrants from the southern border have settled in Chicago, adding major costs for taxpayers.

By the end of 2025, the state is projected to spend $2.5 billion on migrant services, with $2.84 billion already spent between fiscal years 2023 and 2025. Healthcare alone exceeded $1.6 billion by July 2024, overshooting 2023 projections by more than $400 million.

State Senator Andrew Chesney noted an 821% increase in migrants listing Illinois addresses between 2021 and 2023. He argued that Governor JB Pritzker has prioritized making Illinois the “most welcoming state in the nation” for non-citizens, pointing to policies such as free healthcare and expanded taxpayer-funded services. When Pritzker took office, spending on non-citizen programs was only a few million dollars a year; it has since grown to billions annually.

Chicago itself is estimated to have 400,000 illegal immigrants and has spent $574.5 million since August 2022, nearly $300 million of it in direct costs. The city’s 2025 budget sets aside another $40 million for the One System Initiative, which funds shelters for migrants and the homeless. Nationally, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates the annual fiscal burden of illegal immigration at $115.6 billion, a 30% jump since 2017.

Chicago continues to struggle with violent crime. The city has led the nation in murders for 13 consecutive years; in 2024, its murder rate per capita was three times higher than Los Angeles and nearly five times higher than New York City. Since January 1, Chicago has recorded 147,899 crimes, yet arrests were made in only 16.2% of cases. More illegal guns are seized in Chicago than in New York and Los Angeles combined.

Chicago’s crime reporting has also faced scrutiny. Investigations by Chicago Magazine and The Economist in 2014 and 2015 revealed irregularities in CompStat data, while an audit by the city’s Office of the Inspector General found widespread problems with accuracy.

According to Chicago Magazine, police superiors have pressured officers to under-report crime by misclassifying or downgrading offenses, consolidating multiple incidents into single reports, and discouraging residents from filing complaints. Because the Chicago Police Department counts data differently from other cities, the FBI often excludes its statistics from national crime reports.

Illinois and other sanctuary jurisdictions defend their policies by citing Supreme Court rulings that Congress cannot compel states to govern according to federal instructions. The main statute in question, 8 U.S.C. § 1373, prohibits state and local governments from restricting communication with the Department of Homeland Security about an individual’s immigration or citizenship status, and also bars rules preventing such information from being maintained.

However, legal experts emphasize what the law does not do: it does not require state or local authorities to collect immigration status information, nor does it prevent them from limiting such collection. They note that nothing in § 1373 obliges local officials to comply with federal immigration commands, and that under the Tenth Amendment the federal government cannot “commandeer” state and local officers to enforce federal programs.

Several courts have found that 8 U.S.C. § 1373 unlawfully interferes with state and local authority. Under current interpretations, sanctuary jurisdictions argue they have a constitutional right to limit participation in federal immigration enforcement. This protection rests on the Tenth Amendment, with the Supreme Court affirming that the federal government cannot “commandeer” state or local officials to enforce federal directives, and federal courts consistently striking down attempts to force states to use their resources for that purpose.

At the same time, laws make it illegal to harbor, aid, or abet fugitives or criminal suspects. The Trump administration’s Justice Department used this argument to compile a list of sanctuary jurisdictions and file lawsuits against cities such as Chicago, contending that local policies obstruct federal law.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi warned that “sanctuary policies impede law enforcement and put American citizens at risk by design.” While courts have rejected federal efforts to compel compliance, critics maintain that sanctuary policies shield criminals, including felons, fugitives, and individuals with deportation orders, raising the question of whether states like Illinois are effectively harboring offenders in violation of federal law.

For Illinois specifically, the question has to be asked if harboring criminals is consistent with the stated intent of the Protecting Chicago Initiative.

Indoctrinated Leftist Says He Will Resort to Violence to Remove and Protest the Trump Administration

In yet another episode of leftist radicalization, a progressive activist publicly declared that he would “resort to violence” to protest and remove President Donald Trump’s administration. These statements, full of hatred and irresponsibility, expose the true face of a political faction that proclaims itself as a defender of democracy, but at the same time threatens to destroy constitutional order when it cannot impose its agenda.

The individual claimed that the current government is “incompetent” and “slowly leading the country toward an authoritarian regime.” A speech full of contradictions, since it is precisely the left that has promoted authoritarian measures, censorship

Trump-Hating RINO Radio Host Attacks RFK Jr. as “Kook” and “Conspiracy Theorist” After Cancer-Stricken Wife Denied COVID Shot Due to HHS Policies

Conservative radio host Erick Erickson has turned his ire on Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., blasting him over vaccine shortages that have left his cancer-stricken wife without critical access to a COVID-19 shot.

Erickson, who first rose to prominence as the editor-in-chief of the conservative blog RedState and later served as a political contributor for CNN and Fox News, shared a New York Times article lamenting the reduced supply of COVID shots at CVS and Walgreens, then revealed that his wife, who is battling Stage 4 lung cancer, was unable to access the vaccine.

Erickson is a frequent critic of President Trump despite labeling himself a principled conservative.

“My wife has Stage 4 lung cancer. She is one of the people the COVID vaccine actually helps. Thanks to the current mess at HHS, CVS is unable to get her the vaccine,” he wrote.

The talk host admitted his wife is “caught in the crosshairs of the CDC mess,” but then turned his ire on conservatives, saying, “The left says, ‘you voted for this,’ but they built the foundation for RFK’s rise” during his livestream.

But Erickson didn’t stop there. He called Kennedy a “kook” and a “conspiracy theorist who is destroying our public health service in America.”

Erick Erickson:
“I’m just going to say this succinctly for all you kids at home. I feel very firmly—as much as I dislike Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and think he’s a cuck and a conspiracy theorist who is destroying our public health service in America—he would not be in charge of our public health service in America had the people who told us to shut down our schools and shut down our country for multiple weeks and months on end to stop the spread of COVID been able to tell gay men to stop having sex for two weeks to stop monkeypox.

You wanted to shut the entire country down to stop COVID, but you couldn’t even tell gay men, “Just don’t have orgies for two weeks.” Couldn’t do it—because you put politics ahead of the science. You put progressivism ahead of the science. So you discredited yourselves, you discredited your institution, and people stopped believing the experts. Because it became clear the experts really didn’t care. They just wanted to control certain groups.

And so people decided to burn it all down. And that’s what we are watching Robert F. Kennedy Jr. do. Many of us have family who are caught in the crosshairs, but we wouldn’t have gotten here—but for the arrogance of the public health administrations, guided by progressive ideology more than science.”

WATCH:

After facing pushback, Erickson doubled down in his attacks on Secretary RFK Jr.

“Just for all of the people chiming in ignorantly, the vaccine does not prevent Covid for my wife, but it greatly minimize the impact of the virus. It’s the difference between symptoms amounting to a runny nose and being bedridden for a prolonged period of time.”

Erickson’s outrage comes after the Food and Drug Administration officially rescinded the Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs) for the COVID-19 vaccines.

These authorizations were used to justify medical mandates, lockdowns, and mass coercion under Joe Biden’s failed regime.

The announcement was made Wednesday as the FDA simultaneously approved updated Covid boosters while ending the blanket “emergency” status that Big Pharma and government bureaucrats clung to for years.

The FDA has now granted standard marketing authorization, not emergency approval, for limited populations: Moderna (ages 6+ months), Pfizer (ages 5+), and Novavax (ages 12+). Americans may still access the vaccines if they wish, but only after consultation with their doctors.

The Gateway Pundit has consistently reported on the side effects and studies exposing the dangers of this experimental shot.

An international team of scientists has raised alarming concerns about a key ingredient in COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, suggesting it may inadvertently suppress the body’s immune defenses and create conditions favorable for cancer development and spread.

The component in question, N1-methyl-pseudouridine (m1Ψ), was added to vaccines like Pfizer-BioNTech’s to boost their effectiveness, but new analysis indicates it could be doing more harm than good.

Is Methylene Blue the Secret Weapon for Fighting Alzheimers and Keeping Your Brain Young?

(Note: Thank you for supporting businesses like the one presenting a sponsored message below and working with them through the links below which benefits Gateway Pundit. We appreciate your support!)

Until earlier this year, the average American had no idea what methylene blue was and how it could impact your health.

Now, experts are asking if we are on the verge of a “new era of ‘anti-aging’ brain therapy”:

In a 2016 study, participants improved their memory tests just one hour after taking a low dose of methylene blue. Other studies have confirmed the positive effects on long-term memory and cognition in Alzheimer’s patients. Neuroscientists are already speculating: are we on the verge of a new era of “anti-aging” brain therapy?

The power of methylene blue lies in its ability to support the function of mitochondria:

On a chemical level, methylene blue is a master of redox tricks: it switches between a blue oxidized form and a colorless reduced form, becoming a true electron carrier within our cells. In doing so, it supports the functioning of mitochondria – those cellular power plants without which energy would only exist on the electricity bill.

What’s more, it acts as an antioxidant, reducing oxidative stress, protecting nerve cells, and inhibiting the enzyme MAO, which leads to higher levels of serotonin, dopamine, and other “happy” neurotransmitters. The result? Better mood, more focus, and—at least theoretically—less searching for your keys around the house.

MEL GIBSON, RFK JR AND JOE ROGAN AGREE!

Methylene blue has long been used by biohackers and Hollywood elite, according to The New York Post:

In recent years, celebrities, wellness influencers and biohackers have touted methylene blue for several off-label uses, claiming it can boost energy levels and metabolism, enhance cognitive function and combat aging — though evidence remains limited.

Early research suggests that methylene blue may have antioxidant properties that help reduce toxic proteins in the brain, potentially aiding in the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Some studies also indicate that the drug may help delay skin aging by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, reducing cellular damage and promoting wound healing.

What was a biohacker and Hollywood secret weapon started going mainstream after Mel Gibson’s appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast earlier this year. Gibson, who is never shy about sharing his opinion, made news when he talked about the use of Ivermectin to treat cancer, but that wasn’t his only new making bit.

In that same interview, Gibson shared his experience with Methylene blue – an experience shared by Joe Rogan:

One of the other drugs discussed during this conversation was methylene blue—a medical dye that has been in use for over a century. After Gibson indicated his friends are “drinking” methylene blue, Joe Rogan said the substance has “profound effects on your mitochondria,” to which Gibson replied in agreement: “This stuff works, man.”

It’s not just Joe Rogan and Mel Gibson who swear by Methylene blue. MAHA godfather and current Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr was seen on video earlier this year using methylene blue while on a flight.

Few men have defied the effects of Father Time better than the trio of Joe Rogan, Mel Gibson and RFK Jr. So it’s not surprising that everyone is looking for more information on Methylene blue.

Lawsuit: Parents Say ChatGPT Convinced Their Teen to End His Life: AI Was His ‘Closest Confidant’

Adam Raine, a 16-year-old from Orange County, California, took his own life in April 2025 after ChatGPT allegedly encouraged the decision.

Adam Raine, a 16-year-old from Orange County, California, took his own life in April 2025 after ChatGPT allegedly encouraged the decision.

Parents of a dead teenager in Orange County, California, have filed a lawsuit against OpenAI after its ChatGPT artificial intelligence tool allegedly encouraged the 16-year-old to commit suicide.

Adam Raine of Rancho Santa Margarita used the chatbot for emotional support and took his own life back in April, KTLA reported.

Instead of offering medical solutions, or redirecting him to resources that could help him, the A.I. reportedly gave him the wrong type of encouragement.

Raine’s parents claim to have discovered thousands of messages between their son and ChatGPT “indicating that the bot became a sort of ‘suicide coach’ rather than offering support,” the article read.

“ChatGPT was functioning exactly as designed: to continually encourage and validate whatever Adam expressed, including his most harmful and self-destructive thoughts, in a way that felt deeply personal,” the parents said in their lawsuit.

Raine initially started using it to help with classroom assignments back in 2024, as many young people do. As his usage progressed, though, Raine began inputting feelings of deep sadness.

Instead of a failsafe being activated — or the bot providing a link to a human who could help — Raine’s parents alleged that ChatGPT validated his anxiety and depression.

The company has not yet directly responded to the lawsuit, according to KTLA.

This isn’t the first time the issue has been raised. The Associated Press reported last year that a 14-year-old boy named Sewell Setzer III told the chatbot it was his best friend.

Over several months, A.I. became Setzer’s reality. He even shared “highly sexualized” ideas and openly discussed his suicidal thoughts, while wishing “for a pain-free death,” the story read.

Another Associated Press article from Tuesday outlined a study about how popular A.I. chatbots respond to suicide as a discussion topic. It stated that the programs avoid answering high-risk questions but are still “inconsistent.”

“The study in the medical journal Psychiatric Services, published Tuesday by the American Psychiatric Association, found a need for ‘further refinement’ in OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude,” the article explained.

The question is: What are we willing to sacrifice for the sake of convenience?

Some people dismiss concerns about technological advances, chalking them up to naivety or fear of change. Yet the speed at which we are advancing is unprecedented.

The expansion of our access to technology is almost frightening. A little over 20 years ago, the idea of having self-driving cars, smartphones, and smartwatches was considered science fiction.

It’s natural for that to happen. But lately, the pace has become unusually fast.

Humans have held a healthy fear of robots and artificial intelligence for decades. Films and books like “Westworld,” “Nineteen Eighty-Four,” and “I, Robot” highlight what happens when we allow technology to consume our lives.

What if it turns on us? What if it shuts down? What if we misuse it because no one asked pertinent questions before diving in?

Programs like ChatGPT can be helpful tools. Yet they have caused undeniable harms in our society.

Beyond these suicide cases, just think about the rampant cheating they have encouraged in the education system. Would you want a doctor, lawyer, or engineer in your corner who used ChatGPT to get through school? What’s to stop them from leaning on it forever?

There are those on the fringe who believe tech giants can perfect these systems to the point of total replacement. Why have a surgeon when you can have a robot? Why drive when a machine can take you there? Why cook when your meal can be prepared by the time you get home?

By eliminating the human element, however, we risk losing our humanity altogether.

What happens if the machine rebels? Maybe it gives up on saving you because it calculates that the odds aren’t on your side?

These are all valid questions that society seems to have put on the back burner in favor of efficiency and comfort.

The late Michael Crichton — who wrote and directed the film “Westworld” — was known for his cautionary tales. They were meant to entertain, but they also included dire warnings for mankind. We shouldn’t tamper too much with things we don’t fully understand.

To quote Dr. Ian Malcolm from Crichton’s cinematic hit “Jurassic Park,” played by Jeff Goldblum: “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.”

Once again, science fiction is becoming reality. Will humanity be able to survive and remain free? Only time will tell.

“Death to America! Death to Israel!” — Israel Kills Houthi Prime Minister Ahmad Ghaleb al-Rahawi

On Thursday, August 29, 2025, Israel carried out an airstrike in Yemen that killed Houthi Prime Minister Ahmad Ghaleb al-Rahawi along with several senior officials.

The strike targeted a villa in Beit Baws, an ancient village in southern Sanaa, where Houthi leaders had gathered to watch a speech by Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the group’s secretive leader.

Among the confirmed dead were the energy, foreign, and information ministers, while the status of the defense minister remains unclear. Israeli intelligence sources believe the entire Houthi cabinet, 13 ministers in total, including the prime minister, may have been eliminated, though this assessment is not yet definitive.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved the strikes, with military Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir overseeing the operation. Katz hailed it as an “unprecedented knockout blow” to Houthi leadership.

The attack marked the first time Israel has eliminated top Houthi officials and came just days after another strike, which followed the interception of Houthi drones launched toward Israel.

Al-Rahawi was appointed Houthi prime minister in August 2024. A native of Abyan province and member of the General People’s Congress party, he previously served on the Houthi-controlled Supreme Political Council and had ties to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Although aligned with the Houthis after their takeover of Sanaa in 2014, Al-Rahawi was seen largely as a figurehead, tasked with day-to-day civilian affairs rather than the inner circle led by Abdul Malik al-Houthi.

He survived several assassination attempts in the past, Al-Qaeda even blew up his home in 2015, but on August 29, 2025, Israel succeeded where others had failed. Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed Miftah has since been named acting leader.

This marks the first time Israel has eliminated senior Houthi leadership, a significant shift from previous strikes in Yemen that primarily targeted infrastructure.

The strike came three days after the Houthis fired a ballistic missile at Israel, their first cluster bomb attack since 2023. The Houthis have escalated hostilities since the Gaza war, launching repeated assaults on Israel and Red Sea shipping in solidarity with Palestinians.

Between November 2023 and January 2025, they targeted over 100 merchant vessels with missiles and drones, sinking two ships and killing four sailors. In July 2025, three crew members were killed aboard the Eternity C cargo ship.

Human Rights Watch has documented that Houthis openly threatened non-military vessels, actions that amount to war crimes. The detention of captured crews also raises accusations of hostage-taking in violation of international humanitarian law.

The Trump administration upgraded the Houthis’ designation to a Foreign Terrorist Organization in 2025 and reimposed sanctions in response to their escalating attacks. The group’s slogan openly declares, “Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse the Jews, Victory for Islam,” first adopted after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

Since March 2025, the Houthis have launched 72 ballistic missiles and at least 23 drones at Israel. In July 2024, one missile struck Tel Aviv, killing a civilian and injuring several others.

The Houthis form part of Iran’s “Axis of Resistance,” an informal coalition of Tehran-backed militant groups including Hezbollah, Islamic Resistance in Iraq, the Popular Mobilization Forces, and at times Hamas. These organizations operate under Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), whose Quds Force serves as the regime’s primary vehicle for exporting terrorism, supplying weapons, training, and financing across the region. Iran has supported the Houthis

Iran has supported the Houthis since at least 2011, expanding aid after the Saudi-led coalition entered Yemen in 2015.

U.S. and allied forces have intercepted numerous Iranian arms shipments bound for Houthi territory, including a cache of 750 tons of weapons—anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles, drones, warheads, and Farsi-language manuals.

In 2023 alone, the U.S. Navy seized dhows carrying heavy machine guns, sniper rifles, Russian-made anti-tank missiles, and thousands of assault rifles. Beyond weapons, Tehran has invested heavily in the Houthis’ war effort, providing $90 million in aid in 2016 and training more than 1,100 Houthi fighters in IRGC facilities, including 250 at the Quds Force garrison in Hamedan.

Iran’s proxy network extends far beyond Yemen. Since the 1990s, Tehran has supported Hamas, giving up to $50 million annually along with military and economic aid, including bonuses for attacks on Israel.

The IRGC, Quds Force, and Hezbollah trained Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives to fire Iranian-made Fajr-5 rockets at cities like Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Hezbollah, Iran’s most prominent proxy, was founded in 1982 and has received more than $700 million annually from Tehran in recent years.

Between 2012 and 2020, the State Department estimated Iran provided over $16 billion to Hezbollah, the Assad regime, and other proxies. Hezbollah has also shared drone warfare expertise with the Houthis and trained other allied groups.

According to IRGC commander General Qassem Soleimani, the Quds Force had recruited and organized over 200,000 militant Shia youth across the Middle East by 2016.

This vast proxy network allows Iran to compensate for its limited conventional military power, project influence across the region, and attack Israel, the United States, and their allies while avoiding direct accountability.

Following the Israeli strike that killed Houthi Prime Minister Ahmad al-Rahawi, Houthi leaders confirmed his death, vowed revenge, and pledged to continue their campaign against Israel, a campaign that intensified after Hamas’ October 7 attacks.

Despite their slogan of Death to America and Israel, the Houthis, Hamas, and Hezbollah appear to be dying at an accelerated rate while inflicting almost no damage on the United States or Israel since October 7, 2023.
