A career criminal with at least 50 prior arrests and 40 convictions murdered a man with a machete in Waterbury, Connecticut, on Saturday evening.

Kendren Barnes was charged with murder after ‘stabbing’ victim Ricardo Maldonado, 57.

According to reports, police were called to an apartment complex in Waterbury on Saturday evening and found the two men suffering from stab wounds.

Barnes and Maldonado were transported to a local hospital. Moldanado died from his injuries.

Barnes is being held on a $2.5 million bond.

The News-Times reported:

Police have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing on Grove Street over the weekend as a city resident.

Ricardo Maldonado, 57, of Waterbury died at the hospital after an incident on Grove Street Saturday, police Lt. Joseph Morais said in a news release Tuesday.

Morais said officers were called to an apartment building on the 100 block of the road at 7:17 p.m. Saturday for reports of a physical altercation involving a weapon inside. He said arriving officers located two male victims, later identified as Maldonado and 47-year-old Kendren Barnes, who had sustained wounds inflicted by edged weapons.

Both were transported to area hospitals, Morais said, where Maldonado later died from his injuries.

Barnes has an extensive criminal history. Police described him as a man who is “frequently arrested.”

Per The Waterbury Times:

Court records show Barnes has an extensive criminal history in the State of Connecticut dating back to 1995, with more than seven prior cases and repeated periods of incarceration, probation, and violations of court supervision.

His record reflects a pattern of offenses beginning with larcenies, later escalating to robbery, weapons-related charges, assaults, escape, and multiple probation and bond violations. Barnes has been arrested in numerous cities, including Waterbury, Torrington, Hartford, New Britain, New Haven, Manchester, Middletown, Windsor, Wethersfield, Berlin, Montville, and West Hartford.

Charges over the years have included:

• Larceny (various degrees)
• Robbery (third degree)
• Assault
• Carrying a dangerous weapon
• Weapons possession while incarcerated
• Escape
• Interfering with an officer
• Drug-related offenses
• Violations of protective orders

The Notorious Hope Walz, the cringe daughter of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, posted a TikTok video on December 29 claiming her family has been subjected to a coordinated “hate and bot campaign” from the right-wing infrastructure, alleging that critics have launched harassment efforts against her household. In the video, the air head 24-year-old described receiving an “extreme” and “overwhelming” influx of direct messages, comments, and emails that she characterized as “peddling propaganda” and “pushing agendas.”

Hope Walz attempted to warn that online attacks in a “post-truth world” have real-world consequences, stating plainly, “This is how people get hurt.” While also maintaining she has a privileged infrastructure herself for protection.

The video emerged amid a national controversy surrounding independent journalist Nick Shirley’s viral exposé of alleged fraud at Minnesota daycare centers, which sparked accusations that Governor Walz failed to adequately oversee state programs. Governor Walz responded to criticism by making comments linking fraud exposure to broader concerns about what he characterized as “white supremacy,” remarks that sparked sharp rebukes from Shirley and conservative figures.

The controversy has drawn federal attention, with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security deploying resources to Minnesota following Shirley’s investigation into allegedly fraudulent daycare and healthcare centers that received millions in taxpayer funding. Federal authorities have confirmed that Minnesota’s social services fraud exceeds $1 billion, with 92 individuals charged over the past few years, 82 of whom are Somali American—according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The D.C. pipe bomber suspect Brian Cole, who has been accused of placing pipe bombs outside of the Democratic and Republican National Committee buildings in January of 2021, was back inside a D.C. courtroom on Tuesday.

During the court appearance, Brian Cole’s attorney argued before U.S. Magistrate Judge Matthew Sharbaugh for Cole’s temporary release, citing a prior autism diagnosis.

Judge Sharbaugh, however, did not make an immediate decision regarding Cole’s release and instead announced that he would decide on a conditional release at a later date.

On Monday, Cole was indicted on two Federal charges by a D.C. Superior Court grand jury, one of which was a charge related to terrorism.

Per NBC News:

The Virginia man accused of planting pipe bombs at the nation’s capital on Jan. 5, 2021, is requesting a conditional release from jail as his attorney cites his autism diagnosis.

Federal prosecutors allege that Brian Cole, 30, is the man who planted explosive devices at the Republican and Democratic national party headquarters the night before rioters swarmed the Capitol. He has been in custody since he was arrested Dec. 4, when he was charged with transporting an explosive device and attempted malicious destruction by means of explosive materials.

Cole has not yet entered a plea.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Matthew Sharbaugh declined to rule on whether Cole would be released Tuesday, telling both parties there were “important arguments under consideration.” Neither Cole nor the several members of his family at the hearing reacted to Sharbaugh’s announcement.

On Monday, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro wrote on X that her office has filed court documents that reveal Cole confessed to making the bombs and setting the timer to detonate them.

Former Trump spokeswoman Liz Harrington seemingly called out the Department of Justice on Monday, demanding “real accountability” for the Somali fraud schemes in Minnesota and other states. 

Billions of dollars have been stolen from American taxpayers in Minnesota through Somali welfare and nonprofit fraud, and much of it was sent back to Somalia.

High-profile arrests, Harrington said, are “something that really the American people are demanding,” adding, “They don’t want just to see social media outrage and sternly worded letters and hearings.”

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a damage control statement on Monday, amid outrage and mounting criticism from the public over the Department of Justice’s handling of the massive fraud perpetrated by third-world immigrants.

Following Nick Shirley’s exposé on Minnesota’s Somali nonprofit ecosystem and the billions of dollars in taxpayer funds being stolen, Bondi issued the sternly worded social media post, warning lawmakers that “more prosecutions are coming,” adding, “Buckle up.”

Meanwhile, some readers of The Gateway Pundit and many on social media have said that Nick Shirley is doing a better job at exposing the fraud than Trump’s Attorney General.

During an appearance with Newsmax’s Krysia Lenzo, Harrington echoed similar sentiments, calling for real justice for the crimes and stronger investigations.

“The FBI should go into all states, all areas, and look at this type of fraud,” Harrington declared, while noting that similar findings of fraud and state complicity have been uncovered in Washington.

“This is so corrupt, and it’s such a punch in the gut to the average American, law-abiding taxpayer who works so hard, has so much of their money go to the federal government and state government, and to see this rampant corruption. It has to stop.”

Harrington: I think that’s the key question and something that really the American people are demanding. They don’t want just to see social media outrage and sternly worded letters and hearings. And it is getting bigger, I think, than just Minnesota. You already have reports out from the state of Washington, very similar operations going on. And the FBI should go into all states, all areas, and look at this type of fraud. This has to end. This is so corrupt, and it’s such a punch in the gut to the average American, law-abiding taxpayer who works so hard, has so much of their money go to the federal government and state government, and to see this rampant corruption. It has to stop.

And it’s not just Washington and Minnesota. This scheme is likely much more far-reaching and defrauds US taxpayers of hundreds of billions of dollars.

As The Gateway Pundit reported in May, 22 individuals were charged in a $60 million Medicaid fraud scheme for allegedly diverting funds meant for sober living programs to a church for East African migrants. Millions of dollars were further wired to “an entity in Rwanda,” the indictment read.

The Trump administration has launched a sweeping federal lawsuit against the Commonwealth of Virginia, accusing state leaders of openly defying federal immigration law by granting illegal aliens discounted in-state college tuition while forcing American citizens from other states to pay dramatically higher rates.

In a civil complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the Department of Justice argues that Virginia’s tuition scheme blatantly violates federal law and must be permanently shut down.

The lawsuit seeks declaratory and injunctive relief to block the enforcement of Virginia statutes that classify illegal aliens as state “residents” for tuition and financial aid purposes.

At the center of the case is a law passed in 2021 and effective since 2022, which allows illegal alien students who meet specific residency and high school graduation criteria in Virginia to pay in-state tuition regardless of their immigration status. They can also qualify for state financial aid.

Meanwhile, American citizens from neighboring states—or even military families temporarily stationed elsewhere—are forced to pay out-of-state tuition rates that can be tens of thousands of dollars higher.

The DOJ complaint states plainly that Virginia’s policy gives preferential treatment to illegal aliens over U.S. citizens, calling the practice “squarely prohibited and preempted by federal law.”

“In direct conflict with federal law, Virginia law permits an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States to qualify for reduced in-state rates and state-administered financial assistance based on residence within the state but does not make United States citizens eligible for such benefits without regard to whether the United States citizens are Virginia residents,” the lawsuit reads.

“Since 2022, Virginia law has allowed unlawful aliens who establish residency in Virginia to benefit from reduced, in-state tuition rates while denying that same benefit to U.S. citizens who are not residents of Virginia.”

The lawsuit highlights just how severe the discrimination is. At the University of Virginia, for example, resident undergraduates pay roughly $23,900 per year in tuition, while out-of-state U.S. citizens are charged nearly $63,000 annually.

Under Virginia’s scheme, an illegal alien may qualify for the lower rate, while an American citizen from another state cannot.

The lawsuit cites President Trump’s executive orders aimed at ending taxpayer subsidization of illegal immigration and enforcing equal treatment for Americans under the law. Those directives instruct federal agencies to challenge state laws that favor illegal aliens over U.S. citizens—particularly in higher education.

The administration argues that Virginia’s policy does more than violate immigration law; it undermines national sovereignty and encourages illegal immigration by offering valuable public benefits that Congress expressly sought to withhold.

One of the key events in the upcoming weeks as pro-life Americans gather in marches, rallies and educational conferences surrounding the 53rd anniversary of the now reversed Roe v. Wade decision is the National Prayer Service, an interdenominational gathering in Constitution Hall on the morning of the March for Life in Washington, D.C., Friday, January 23^rd.

Among the notable features of this year’s service, pro-life leaders will point to the 250^th birthday of America in 2026, marked by the Declaration of Independence, acknowledging God as the source of our right to life, and the government as responsible for securing it.

‘This prevalent and callous disregard for innocent human life indicates that America has, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, “forgotten God.”’

An awareness of the spiritual roots of the problem, furthermore, indicates the path to a solution.

For decades, the movement has asserted – and rightly so – that science itself makes clear that the child in the womb is a human being, one of us.

Moreover, ethical reasoning even by those who have little or no faith is capable of concluding that it is wrong, and harmful to society, to kill babies in the womb. The experiences of those who have done so, and the evident harm to individuals and families, reinforces this conclusion of human reasoning.

At this point in the history of our movement, we have made that very clear, and there is hardly any dissent within the movement. Pro-life advocates are routinely trained on how to make their arguments to a secular audience, and how to refute the assertion so often made by abortion supporters that “this is just a religious issue.”

But now we risk going too far down the road of pointing out the “human reason alone/secular arguments” perspective.

We are in danger of under-emphasizing a key and essential component of victory for the pro-life movement, namely, its religious basis.

Religious faith is alive in America. Most Americans do in fact believe in God, pray, and read the Bible.

So why should these key aspects of their lives be disconnected from their pro-life position?

While reason alone can conclude that abortion kills a baby and is wrong, the arguments from Faith clarify and reinforce that truth. God made human beings in his own image. God became a human being himself in Christ. Jesus Christ gives human life a place on his throne. And God’s Spirit empowers us to save lives by laying our lives down for our brothers and sisters just as the Son of God did.

As confusion reigns in our world today, the light of Faith is more necessary than ever to rescue human reason from the fog of sin. God’s Word and grace are more necessary than ever to enable people to tap into the strength they need to persevere in the hard work, and face the persecution involved, in striving to restore protection to the unborn.

Moreover, while it is one thing to persuade people of the truth of the pro-life position, it is quite another to have the perseverance to endure the sacrifices, over years and decades, that are necessary to actually protect those lives, change public policy, and heal the wounds of abortion. The strength, grace, and virtue to do this come from religion and faith in God.

Nothing can be farther from the truth.

And fortunately, religious faith will in fact be on full display, not only at the National Prayer Service, but at the March itself, as crosses, rosaries, religious clothing, and signs with Scripture quotes will be evident to all who look.

Even in San Francisco, on the day after the D.C. March, the Walk for Life West Coast will be marked by vigorous religious expression.

Many are concerned that clergy don’t speak up enough about abortion. Maybe part of the reason is that we’ve been tacitly, if not explicitly, telling them that religious arguments have no place in the pro-life debate.

So let’s gather to march, and let’s gather to pray! Hope to see you at the National Prayer Service!

A bombshell federal report has blown the lid off yet another massive Biden-era taxpayer scandal — this time inside the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

According to HUD’s own Fiscal Year 2025 Agency Financial Report, more than $5 billion in rental assistance payments during the final year of the Biden regime were flagged as “questionable” or improper, exposing systemic failures, nonexistent oversight, and breathtaking incompetence at the federal level.

Among the most jaw-dropping revelations: tens of thousands of payments were made to people who were already DEAD, and thousands more went to recipients who may not have even been eligible to receive taxpayer-funded housing assistance at all, the New York Post first reported.

Buried in the HUD report is a stunning admission that federal systems failed to stop payments to 30,054 deceased individuals who were either still listed as active tenants or continued receiving rental assistance after their deaths.

HUD officials acknowledged that only after cross-checking Treasury databases did they finally identify the scope of the problem — meaning for years, taxpayers were unknowingly footing the bill for people who no longer exist.

“[Over] 30,000 dead people receiving housing isn’t an accident — it was systematic fraud by Biden and the left. HUD will hold those who defrauded the American taxpayers accountable,” HUD Secretary Scott Turner wrote on X.

According to the report:

HUD used an automation that compared a U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury) database to HUD’s records to automatically flag deceased tenants still listed in rental assistance programs. Using the automation, HUD identified 30,054 deceased tenants either actively enrolled in a rental assistance program at the time of the analysis or who had received assistance after they died. Using the automation and the Treasury database allows HUD to better confirm that taxpayer money is going where it should and take actions to keep it from going where it shouldn’t.

The report further states that $5.8 billion in rental assistance payments were flagged for serious eligibility concerns, including:

• Payments tied to incomplete or missing tenant documentation
• Inability to verify citizenship or lawful eligibility
• Weak or nonexistent cross-checks with federal databases
• Years-long failures in internal controls and oversight

HUD officials acknowledged that thousands of recipients may not have been eligible non-citizens, yet payments continued to flow anyway.

According to the report:

HUD reviewed the FY 2024 rental assistance payments total of $50.4 billion, which identified payments to deceased tenants and to tenants with invalid social security numbers.

For the first time, HUD evaluated all 4+ million tenant records and the registration status of more than 21,000 recipient organizations, uncovering eligibility issues affecting more than 200,000 tenants and identifying questionable payments totaling $5.8 billion (including approximately $4.3 billion (26.4%) of PBRA payments and $1.5 billion (4.4%) of TBRA payments).

Even more damning, HUD’s leadership openly admitted in the report that financial controls deteriorated under the Biden administration, creating “material weaknesses” in governance, data integrity, and payment oversight.

The report describes:

• Absent or ineffective internal controls
• Poor governance structures
• Lack of enforcement priorities
• Failure to stop improper payments in real time

These failures directly enabled billions of dollars to be wasted, money that could have gone to American citizens, veterans, seniors, and the truly needy.

HUD officials told the Post that a “large concentration” of these questionable rental assistance funds flowed to Democrat-run strongholds, including:

• New York
• California
• Washington, D.C.

Yet payments to deceased recipients were found in all 50 states, proving the rot was nationwide.

“For four years, the left abused American taxpayers, and now light is exposing darkness from Minnesota to D.C. to N.Y. to California,” Turner wrote on X.

In a statement to the Post, Turner said, “A massive abuse of taxpayer dollars not only occurred under President [Joe] Biden’s watch, but was effectively incentivized by his administration’s failure to implement strong financial controls resulting in billions worth of potential improper payments.”

He added, “HUD will continue investigating the shocking results and will take appropriate action to hold bad actors accountable. Additionally, the Department is advancing efforts made under President Trump’s first administration to strengthen program integrity and ensure taxpayer-funded assistance serves the vulnerable communities it was intended for.”

The around 11% of taxpayer dollars from HUD went to more than 200,000 possibly ineligible tenants — of whom 29,715 (around 14%) were dead, 9,472 (4%) were non-citizens and 165,393 (82%) were receiving sums that exceeded the threshold for assistance in their geographic region, particularly in New Orleans and other large metro areas.

HUD officials faulted the Biden administration for a directive “to push funding out the door with minimal oversight” as well as rent assistance programs placing “substantial trust and responsibility in these non-federal entities … to accurately assess tenant eligibility.”

Now, HUD will have to reach out to the public housing authorities and other entities to confirm the extent of the fraud — and either pause or revoke funding. Officials will also make criminal referrals when warranted.

Between October 2023 and September 2024, $33 billion was spent on Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) for more than 4 million households and $16 billion was spent on Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) — all of which the audit reviewed.

The more than 200,000 tenants were flagged for eligibility issues as part of the $1.5 billion in TBRA payments from HUD, while roughly $4.3 billion (26.4%) of all PBRA payments also had eligibility issues.

Independent journalists have uncovered disturbing evidence of potential ghost daycare operations in Columbus, Ohio, home to the second-largest Somali community in the United States.

The new reporting from Muckraker journalists comes on the heels of a viral exposé by YouTuber Nick Shirley in Minnesota, where similar schemes allegedly siphoned billions in federal funds under the watch of Democrat Governor Tim Walz.

The investigation, led by Muckraker’s Anthony and Josh Rubin, kicked off with a visit to the Great Minds Learning Academy at 2909 E 5th Avenue in Columbus.

In a video posted on X on Monday, Rubin and his team knocked on the facility’s door during business hours, but no one answered. The building appeared deserted, with no signs of activity despite its listing as a licensed childcare center serving children from six weeks to 12 years old, with a capacity of 36 kids.

“Right now we are in front of The Great Minds Learning Academy. This is one of many daycare centers… here in Columbus, Ohio, that are associated with the Somali community,” Rubin says in the video.

Rubin references Shirley, who “put up a bombshell report about all these fraudulent daycare facilities in Minneapolis, Minnesota.”

Determined to investigate similar patterns in Ohio, the team knocked and rang the doorbell, but the door remained locked and unresponsive.

Undeterred, the journalists spoke to neighbors across the street.

One local resident, standing outside a nearby building, told them, “I’ve never seen nobody come out the building or go in the building.”

When pressed if he’d ever seen children or any activity, he reiterated, “No, not at all.”

Another neighbor suggested the facility might use a back entrance, but when the team checked, they found nothing – no cars, no people, no indications of an operational daycare.

The Ohio investigation is a direct follow-up to Shirley’s viral YouTube videos, which ignited a firestorm over alleged fraud in Somali-owned daycares in Minnesota.

Shirley’s on-the-ground reporting accused numerous facilities of operating as “ghost” centers, claiming federal reimbursements for non-existent children while showing no signs of actual childcare. His videos, posted during Christmas week, went mega-viral on X, prompting an immediate federal response.

In response, the FBI and Department of Homeland Security announced they were “surging resources” into Minnesota to investigate. His findings build on existing scandals, including the Feeding Our Future case, where prosecutors have charged nearly 100 individuals in a scheme that allegedly stole over $250 million in COVID-era funds meant for feeding children.

Columbus hosts over 45,000 Somali migrants, the second-largest such community after Minneapolis.

Public records show Great Minds Learning Academy is part of the Somali Education & Resource Center network.
