Former Rep. Jerry Carl is hoping to win back his seat in Alabama. But contender and State Rep. Rhett Marques looks like the true MAGA candidate in the race.

Former Congressman Jerry Carl is downplaying the prospects of President Trump endorsing his ongoing bid to return to office in Alabama’s First Congressional District.

At a recent campaign outing in Atmore, Carl said, “Everyone’s asking is Donald Trump going to get involved in our campaign. I doubt it. I doubt it.”

“I think he’s probably going to stay out of this one. It’s not to his benefit. But we’ll see, we’ll see,” he added.

Carl also noted he was endorsed by Trump in two previous races. Both of those endorsements came before a summer 2022 interview in which Carl criticized Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021.

WPMI reported in July 2022 that Carl referred to January 6 as “an embarrassing day for the country.”

Carl stated Trump’s actions on January 6 were “questionable at best.” The former Congressman also called for the prosecution of “people that tore things up” that day — individuals Trump has now pardoned after returning to office.

Carl has condemned these individuals on multiple public occasions.

In July 2021, Carl was quoted by Alabama Media Group as saying, “I was there. Do you minimize it? Do you minimize a 100 people or more coming into the people’s house and tearing it up? No. It was a horrible event. … I’m not minimizing it. I was angry. I’m still mad about it.”

On January 6 itself, Carl released a video statement that was covered by WKRG. In that video, Carl spoke directly into the camera and said, “What we saw today was not representative of democracy, of who we are as Americans.”

“It was not the MAGA movement I know, but rather a mob determined to tear our government apart,” he continued. “[W]hat happened today as no place in America.”

Carl has been badly outraised in his 2026 race by State Rep. Rhett Marques (R-Enterprise), who has the endorsement of U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) and Manufacture Alabama.

During his current campaign, Carl referred to Trump as a “lame duck.”

“This will be Trump’s last two years in office,” he said.

Additional Republican primary candidates in AL-01 include Joshua McKee and Austin Sidwell.

The Trump administration is deploying a THIRD U.S. Navy aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East, ramping up the pressure on Iran’s terrorist regime amid its pathetic attempts at retaliation.

This comes as Iranian missile and drone strikes have been decimated by superior American and allied defenses, dropping a staggering 90% and 83% respectively since the war kicked off, according to CENTCOM, per the Times of Israel.

During a broadcast report, Fox News anchor Brett Baier confirmed that the situation continues to intensify as Iranian aggression spreads across the region.

Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry announced that it intercepted four drones launched toward the Sheba oil field, part of a continuing wave of attacks linked to Iran. The strikes come amid Iran’s ongoing retaliatory campaign targeting U.S., Israeli, and Gulf state assets.

At the same time, regional allies are beginning to push back harder.

The United Arab Emirates has frozen Iranian assets, and U.S. forces are moving additional weapons and naval power into the region as the conflict widens.

Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson reported from Dubai that a third American aircraft carrier strike group is preparing to cross the Atlantic and join the fight against Iran.

The USS George H. W. Bush Carrier Strike Group has completed its training exercises off the coast of Cape Hatteras and is expected to deploy soon.

“The Sailors, ships, squadrons, and staffs of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG) successfully completed Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) March 5, 2026,” according to the Navy.

“COMPTUEX is the certification event for the strike group to let us know we are ready for major combat operations around the world,” said Rear Adm. Alexis Walker, commander, Carrier Strike Group 10. “It brings the entire strike group team together and enables us to operate as we would when we’re forward deployed.”

The USS George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (CSG 10) is a force of approximately 7,500 personnel.  The strike group’s composition typically includes:

1. Aircraft Carrier (Flagship)

• USS George H. W. Bush (CVN‑77) — nuclear-powered supercarrier.

2. Guided-Missile Cruiser

• USS Leyte Gulf (CG‑55) — Ticonderoga-class cruiser responsible for air-defense command.

3. Guided-Missile Destroyers (Destroyer Squadron 26)

• USS Nitze (DDG‑94)

• USS Truxtun (DDG‑103)

• USS Delbert D. Black (DDG‑119)

4. Carrier Air Wing

• Carrier Air Wing 7 (CVW-7) with ~65–70 aircraft, including F/A-18 Super Hornets, EA-18G Growlers, E-2D Hawkeyes, and helicopters.

If deployed as expected, the Bush strike group will reinforce an already formidable American naval presence in the region.

The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) are already in the region.

Longtime California Congressman Darrell Issa (R) announced late Friday that he will not seek reelection in 2026, citing the radical redistricting forced upon the Golden State by power-hungry Democrats.

Issa has served California’s 48th District with distinction for over two decades.

But thanks to the corrupt Proposition 50 – a Democrat-orchestrated ballot measure rammed through by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2025 – his once-solid Republican stronghold has been twisted into a Democrat-leaning nightmare.

Prop 50, laughably billed as an “anti-gerrymandering” effort to counter supposed Republican moves in Texas, is nothing more than a blatant power grab by California liberals to steal up to five GOP seats and tip the balance of power in Washington.

Issa said in a heartfelt statement on X, where he enthusiastically endorsed San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, a Navy veteran, to take his place.

Fellow California Republican Kevin Kiley, drawn into an even more hostile district, has shockingly announced he’ll run as an independent in a desperate bid to survive the jungle primary.

Kiley was drawn out of his original 3rd district by new maps resulting from Proposition 50, which he has criticized as partisan gerrymandering by Gov. Gavin Newsom. He chose to run in the newly created, blue-leaning 6th District rather than challenge another Republican.

Democrats are celebrating this as a “victory,” but make no mistake: Prop 50 is pure hypocrisy.

While Newsom and his cronies cry about “fairness,” they’re engineering maps that shift Issa’s district from a 12-point GOP advantage to a four-point Democrat edge, all under the guise of responding to redistricting in other states.

The Biden regime funded a project so vile and bizarre that one would think it had to be a brilliant bit of satire by the Babylon Bee. Alas, the truth in this case is stranger than fiction.

Under Secretary of State Sarah B. Rogers appeared before the House Foreign Affairs Committee and dropped an incredible bombshell: the Biden Department of State funded a project called “queering the map.” Yes, the Biden State Department literally wanted to make the maps gay.

As Grok notes, the Biden State Department grants gave taxpayer money to a crowdsourced digital project called “Queering the map.”

On the “Queering the Map” website, LGBTQ users can pin anonymous personal stories/histories to real-world locations worldwide.

One example allocated $72,000 in taxpayer funding for a version focused on Slovakia.

The committee chairman, Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL), was left flabbergasted by what “queering the map” meant. Rogers replied that the Biden Regime was trying to make the maps more gay.

She added that the regime officials were particularly focused on the countries of Czechia and Slovakia.

The Florida Bar Association has admitted it “erroneously” claimed there was an ongoing investigation into former acting U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, a fearless Trump appointee who dared to go after deep state darlings like James Comey and Letitia James.

The stunning reversal comes after multiple fake news outlets, including NBC News, The Washington Post and others, reported that the state bar was investigating Halligan following ethics complaints from the left-wing watchdog group Campaign for Accountability (CfA).

As The Gateway Pundit has extensively reported, Halligan was hand-picked by President Trump to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia after the previous officeholder dragged his feet on prosecuting Trump’s political enemies.

She wasted no time bringing charges against disgraced former FBI Director James Comey for lying to Congress and New York Attorney General Letitia James for mortgage fraud, cases that career prosecutors had warned were weak, but which exposed the rot in the system.

Of course, Clinton-appointed Judge Cameron McGowan Currie tossed both cases, ruling Halligan’s appointment invalid in a blatant act of judicial activism. The DOJ promptly appealed this outrageous decision, as we detailed in our coverage last December.

But the attacks didn’t stop there. Radical watchdog group Campaign for Accountability – a Soros-funded outfit notorious for targeting conservatives, filed ethics complaints against Halligan, whining that her actions violated “ethics rules.”

Three activist judges piled on, accusing her of misconduct in a desperate bid to smear a woman who actually tried to drain the swamp.

On Friday, the Florida Bar Association was forced to tuck its tail and admit on Friday that there is NO ongoing investigation into former Acting U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan.

In a statement to The Hill, Bar Communications Director Jennifer Krell Davis admitted, “In response to an inquiry from a complainant, The Florida Bar wrote a letter to the complainant erroneously stating that there is a pending Bar investigation of member Lindsay Halligan. There is no such pending Bar investigation of Lindsay Halligan… In this case, The Florida Bar received a complaint against Lindsay Halligan and, consistent with standard practice, the Bar is monitoring the ongoing legal proceedings underlying the complaint.”

The Campaign for Accountability, not satisfied with their failed smear, whined in a statement obtained by Just the News:

“CfA has not heard directly from the Florida Bar, but it’s hard to reconcile this latest statement with the bar counsel’s previous letter saying there is an investigation pending. If there is no longer an investigation into Halligan, the question is why not, given that three judges indicated she engaged in conduct that appears to violate ethics rules.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi blasted the claims of a Bar investigation, calling the narrative completely fabricated.

Topline: Controversial education firms that helped embed diversity, equity and inclusion principles in K-12 military schools during President Joe Biden’s administration are still working with the Department of Defense Education Activity, or DoDEA, and received a total of $171,175 in 2025.

Key facts: Thomas M. Brady, the director of DoDEA from 2014 to 2024, announced in 2020that DEI “must be a foundational premise in every aspect of our organization.” Changes to that affect were quickly made to the curriculum of DoDEA, which runs 161 schools for the children of servicemembers living on military bases around the world.

Two teachers gave a presentation about how “elementary school is the perfect time” to “show students the diversity of gender expression and gender activity.” Educators were encouraged to hold “critical conversations” about “the relationships between identity and power” and “privilege,” which were meant to result in “crying” and “explicit confrontations.”

Many DEI consultants were removed after President Donald Trump took office in 2025 and ordered a ban on federal funds being used to teach or implement DEI principles, but some of the companies hired under Biden remain.

DoDEA paid $30,175 last year to continue gym teachers’ membership in the professional society, SHAPE America, which instills its National Health Education Standards in gym classes. Board member Cara Grant said of the health standards, “We recognize that systemic disparities exist within our educational systems, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities. Our approach is not simply to level the playing field but to dismantle the structures that perpetuate inequality.”

During a DoDEA presentation on the SHAPE standards in 2021, one teacher instructed her colleagues that “talking about heterosexuality as the norm” can “inherently cause conflict.”

DoDEA also paid $141,000 last year to the curriculum development company thinkLaw.

ThinkLaw CEO Colin Seale recently wrote a blog post calling on schools to hide DEI within their curriculums through “defiance disguised as compliance,” oddly linking it to a Lil Wayne song in which the rapper declares that “real Gs move in silence like lasagna.”

In one example, Seale tells teachers to discretely teach children that there are more than two genders without “openly” defying Trump’s executive orders to the contrary.

Even in the large, expansive, and sordid history of college sports scandals, this one might be one of the strangest.

According to ESPN, California State University, Bakersfield, has been rocked by a surreal scandal that has overshadowed the fact that the team is dead last in the Big West Conference.

(Which is probably for the best for the Roadrunners, given that they’re 8-22.)

But it doesn’t appear that Cal State Bakersfield’s athletic department will be answering any questions about that putrid record any time soon.

Instead, the department will undoubtedly be peppered with questions about “temporary assistant coach” Kevin Mays.

In August, then-Cal State Bakersfield basketball head coach Rod Barnes received an anonymous email alleging that Mays had been operating as a pimp across four different states.

“FIX IT OR THE WHOLE STAFF WILL FALL,” the tipster, who had identified a woman allegedly being trafficked by Mays, said in the email.

The tipster added that it was a “first warning and a final warning.”

Barnes would forward that email to school officials, which prompted an investigation that would eventually lead to criminal charges being pressed against Mays.

Mays is currently being held without bail as he faces an extensive list of charges — 11 in total — spanning both felonies and misdemeanors.

Among the most serious allegations are felony counts of pimping, along with charges tied to illegal weapons and drug trafficking.

Prosecutors accused him of possessing automatic firearms and high-capacity magazines, as well as methamphetamine and marijuana that authorities say were intended for distribution. Those allegations alone carry significant penalties if proven in court.

In addition, investigators claimed Mays had more than 600 images of child sexual abuse material and distributed obscene content involving a minor.

Despite the damning list of accusations, Mays has entered a plea of not guilty to every charge.

The bizarre scandal unsurprisingly took the sports world by storm.

Merchant was just found guilty on all counts.

A Pakistani man convicted Friday of plotting to assassinate President Donald Trump and other politicians told an FBI agent he thought Iran “was responsible” for the assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Asif Merchant, 47, told the FBI agent, Jacqueline Smith, that the incident “was the same thing he was sent here to do,” Smith testified during Merchant’s trial. Merchant told jurors the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) sent him on a “mission” to kill U.S. politicians, including by telling him to attend a Republican rally.

Merchant was arrested July 12, 2024, one day prior to the shooting in Butler, where Thomas Crooks fired several shots into a rally crowd, killing one and grazing Trump’s ear.

The FBI has said repeatedly it found no evidence that Crooks had co-conspirators or that any foreign actors were involved in the incident.

Merchant, who was convicted by a jury of murder-for-hire and attempting to commit terrorism, testified that Trump was not his only target, telling jurors then-President Joe Biden and former presidential candidate Nikki Haley were also on his list…

Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement that Merchant “landed on American soil hoping to kill President Trump — instead, he was met with the might of American law enforcement.”

Merchant is set to be sentenced at a later hearing. He faces life in prison.
