Man in a suit with a red tie speaking passionately, with an American flag in the background, conveying a message of leadership and authority.

Vice President JD Vance torched Senate Republican leadership on Friday for preparing to leave town for a two-week recess while the partial government shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security drags on and the SAVE America Act remains stalled by a Democratic filibuster.

In an interview with Benny Johnson, Vance made clear that Congress has urgent business that cannot wait.

When asked directly whether the Senate should go on recess right now, Vance responded, “No, of course not. Of course not. We should at least, the very minimum product that we should get before anybody’s going on recess is, let’s reopen the Department of Homeland Security!”

Vance also eviscerated the argument for protecting the filibuster, calling it “the DUMBEST political argument I have ever seen.”

“So, when Mitch McConnell and Lisa Murkowski say, ‘well, we need to protect the filibuster because the Democrats, they’re not going to do it. So, we shouldn’t do it either,’” Vance continued. “The Democrats ruined the career of Kyrsten Sinema for not overruling the filibuster. They’re going to do it. So, we might as well do it now to enforce the protection of the American electoral system.”

The VP stated that he is “ready today” to cast the tie-breaking vote if 50 Senate Republicans have the courage to eliminate the filibuster and advance the bill.

WATCH:

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, formally H.R. 7296, requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote and valid photo identification to cast a ballot in federal elections.

The bill passed the House earlier this year and has been a top priority for President Trump, who has repeatedly pressed Senate Republicans to take it up and, if necessary, change Senate rules to overcome Democratic opposition.

Senate currently lacks the 60 votes needed to overcome the filibuster.

Republicans are divided on whether to nuke the procedural hurdle.

The inability to pass funding for the Department of Homeland Security has caused widespread TSA staffing shortages, flight delays, and long security lines at airports across the country.

What Happened At Home UNDER Bush

Twenty years after the September 11 attacks, the sweeping expansion of federal security powers authorized under President George W. Bush remains the foundation of American national security, raising critical questions about government overreach and constitutional limits that conservatives continue to debate today.

Bipartisan Unity Enabled Unprecedented Government Growth

In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, Congress granted President Bush extraordinary authority with minimal debate or opposition. Bush’s approval ratings soared to 90% as Americans, shaken by the deadliest attack on U.S. soil, supported nearly any measure promising security. This bipartisan consensus enabled the creation of vast new federal agencies and surveillance programs that permanently altered the relationship between citizens and government. The Department of Homeland Security emerged as a massive new bureaucracy, consolidating power in ways the Founders would have found deeply troubling.

Speaking at Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where passengers heroically crashed United Flight 93 to prevent further attacks, Bush reflected on national division without offering solutions. The contrast is stark between the unity of September 2001 and today’s political climate, where Americans question whether post-9/11 security measures went too far in sacrificing liberty for safety.

From Complacency to Security State

The transformation happened rapidly after years of what NPR senior correspondent Ron Elving called complacency following the Soviet Union’s collapse. America believed it faced no global rivals and remained largely unaware of growing Islamic extremism and anti-American sentiment abroad. The Bush administration’s response fundamentally reshaped how America projects power overseas and monitors citizens at home, establishing precedents that subsequent administrations have maintained and expanded regardless of party affiliation.

Constitutional Questions Persist

The enduring legacy of Bush’s security apparatus raises fundamental questions about constitutional governance and limited government. While protecting Americans from terrorism remains essential, the expansion of federal surveillance, airport security protocols, and intelligence gathering created a permanent infrastructure that conservatives recognize as antithetical to founding principles of restrained government power. The challenge for constitutional conservatives remains balancing genuine security needs against preserving the liberties that define American freedom.

HOUSE GOP STRIKES BACK: Furious Republicans Move to ADD ICE Funding and Voter ID to Senate’s DHS Garbage Deal With Democrats — Will Force ‘Cowardly Senators’ Back to D.C.

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN)

House Republicans are done playing games with the Senate’s latest RINO surrender.

In the early hours of Friday morning, the Senate, reportedly with only five senators present, passed a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding package by voice vote.

But there was a catch.

The bill conveniently excluded full funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and key components of Customs and Border Protection, the very agencies responsible for immigration enforcement, deportation operations, and cracking down on criminal illegal alien activity, including drug and sex trafficking.

Thune left D.C. immediately following the betrayal, reportedly escorted by a private detail for a two-week Easter recess.

The House Freedom Caucus and MAGA patriots aren’t letting this surrender stand. Republicans in the House are already moving to amend the Senate’s pathetic offering, intending to force the Senate to actually do its job.

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) announced that the House Republicans will amend the garbage deal, restoring funding for ICE and adding a voter ID requirement.

Rep. Ogles: “So what the Senate did last night was they passed a bill that did not fully fund the government, meaning child sex trafficking investigation unit isn’t funded. They didn’t fully fund Homeland Security. So we’re focused on amending the bill and putting that back in, and we’re going to add in voter ID in the process. They’re cowardly. They didn’t do their job, and now they left town. They should come back and they should have to do their job.”

WATCH:

According to NOTUS, House Speaker Mike Johnson is preparing to put a 60-day continuing resolution (CR) on the floor this weekend.

This CR would fund all of DHS, including the critical ICE operations the Senate tried to kill.

Majority Whip Tom Emmer reportedly informed members that President Trump has given the “go-ahead” to pursue this strategy to protect the homeland.

Pentagon Will Redirect Weapons Meant for Ukraine to the Middle East

Department of War may have to prioritize the conflict in the Middle East over the never-ending war in Ukraine

Too many wars, not enough weapons and munitions.

The military operation in Iran has started affecting supplies ‌of the US military’s critical munitions, leading the Department of War to evaluate whether to redirect weapons that were originally meant for Ukraine to the Middle East.

Reuters reported:

“The weapons that could be redirected include air defense interceptor missiles purchased through a NATO initiative launched last year, under which partner countries buy U.S. arms for Kyiv, the report said.

The consideration comes as U.S. operations in the region intensify. Admiral Brad Cooper, the Central Command chief leading U.S. forces in the Middle East, said on Wednesday the U.S. had hit over 10,000 targets inside Iran and was on track to limit Iran’s ability to project power outside its borders.”

The Defense Department wants to ensure that US forces in the Middle East, as well as its allies, ‘have what they need to fight and win’.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte did not answer questions regarding the Pentagon’s plans.

Euronews reported:

“Rutte said it was not his place to comment on critical support, but assured that essential military equipment ‘continues to flow’ to Ukraine, alongside military intelligence from the US.

Ukrainian officials have openly voiced concerns that Washington’s attention and resources have been more focused on the Middle East.

These fears have been echoed by the European leaders. French President Emmanuel Macron said at the end of last week’s EU summit in Brussels that the Iran war ‘must not divert our attention from the support we give Ukraine’.”

The Pentagon has notified the US Congress that it will divert about $750 million in funding to ‘restock the US military’s own inventories, rather than to send additional assistance to Ukraine’.

BETRAYAL: RINO Thune Abandons House Conservatives, Sells Out ICE to Radical Dems Before Jetting Off on Two-Week Vacation with “Private Escort”

Security checkpoint at an airport with travelers and staff, featuring a "Do Not Enter" sign prominently displayed.

In a stunning overnight betrayal straight out of the RINO playbook, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and his band of spineless establishment Republicans just sold out ICE and America’s border security to Chuck Schumer’s radical Democrats, all so they could skip town for a two-week Easter recess.

Early Friday morning at 2:20 a.m., the Senate unanimously approved a voice-vote package to fund the Department of Homeland Security, except for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and key parts of Customs and Border Protection.

A voice vote is when senators verbally say “aye” or “no,” and the presiding officer decides which side prevails without recording individual votes.

  • No roll call
  • No individual accountability
  • No permanent voting record

Democrats flat-out refused to support full funding without gutting immigration raids and deportation operations.

“This could have been accomplished weeks ago if Republicans hadn’t stood in the way,” far-left Chuck Schumer said.

“Democrats held firm in our opposition that Donald Trump’s rogue and deadly militia should not get more funding without serious reforms, and we will continue to fight for those reforms,” Schumer added.

But instead of fighting for the full funding Americans demanded, and that President Trump has been hammering for, Thune and the Senate GOP folded in the dead of night, when no one was watching. Classic RINO tactics.

According to Tony Seruga:

A classic slice of U.S. Senate procedure bullshit in action—unanimous consent (or voice vote) on a partial DHS funding bill passed in the dead of night (around 2-3 a.m. EDT on March 27, 2026), with only five senators physically present on the floor.

Leader John Thune (R-SD)
Eric Schmitt (R-MO)
Bernie Moreno (R-OH)
Mazie Hirono (D-HI)
Andy Kim (D-NJ)

The presence of just these five in a near-empty chamber late at night (or early morning) is not unusual for unanimous consent agreements, especially right before a scheduled recess. A quorum technically exists with far fewer than 51 senators if no one challenges it.

The Senate could have used the same unanimous consent/voice vote procedure in a near-empty chamber at 2-3 a.m. to pass the SAVE America Act (the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for federal voter registration plus stricter photo ID rules).

Thune and others HAVE TO GO!

House GOP leadership didn’t hold back.

Majority Whip Tom Emmer made it crystal clear that what the Senate pulled was unacceptable and blasted the shady process behind the deal.

Whip Emmer:
“Well, actually, I’ll start out with this: our speaker is very unhappy. I’m not happy. Our whole leadership group—what the Senate did was frankly not right.

We are going to make sure that border is funded. This is about making sure that President Trump’s number one promise—that the border was going to be secure—is upheld. He’s accomplished, with Republican leadership, incredible things with the southern border. It has never been as tight as it is right now.

But we are not going to allow these radical, anarchist, Marxist, socialist Democrats to literally stop or create an open-border situation again like we experienced under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

And we are going to make sure that we continue to deport criminal illegal aliens. This is what Americans want.”

Stuart Varney:
“If there is a ‘no’ vote in the House today, does that mean that the Senate has to come back to do it all over again?”

Whip Emmer:
“The House will have a solution—that’s as much as I can tell you. There will be more on that very shortly.

I think the leadership team, with the speaker, has been working through this again. They did this at 3 in the morning, Stuart, instead of doing it in the light of day when all of America can watch what’s going on. They made this procedural move early in the morning.

By the way, it sets dangerous precedents going forward. If you can take appropriations bills and start removing pieces that you don’t like, this will never end.

So we’re working through it in the House. We will have a solution, and the speaker will announce it—hopefully within the next hour or so.”

WATCH:

Meanwhile, House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) said Friday that he is optimistic the measure will pass, expressing hope that it could be completed as soon as today during an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box.

“I think we’re gonna pass it. I hope we can get it done today… There’s a rule that would need to be waived. I think we should in these exigent circumstances.”

Florida Rep. Randy Fine didn’t mince words on X, torching Thune for ditching Washington while the SAVE America Act gets left in the dust:

“Looks like Leader John Thune is on his way out of town with his private escort, as the SAVE America Act gets left behind. This is very disappointing. I am willing to stay in Washington as long as it takes to get the job done.”

Law enforcement officer in tactical gear smiling at an airport, interacting with travelers and showcasing a visible badge.

A video taken at LaGuardia Airport showing ICE agents laughing at a leftist activist confronting them and whining that they are “foot soldiers of a fascist regime” is going viral on social media.

The clip, which began circulating widely on X on Friday afternoon, shows a group of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations agents in tactical vests walking through the terminal when the activist approaches and begins heckling them.

“You guys are the foot soldiers of a fascist regime, right? Is that not what it is?” the man shouts at them, repeating the insult while the agents grin and eventually burst into laughter.

“Is that funny? Is that funny?” he presses as the agents continue walking and trying to hold back their giggles.

WATCH:

The activist originally posted the video to Instagram, writing that he was “speaking truth to power,” and complaining that they laughed at him.

“They say speak truth to power, so I did just that. Confronted a fascist to his face today at LaGuardia. His reaction? A smirk. This is what we’re up against, but we aren’t staying silent,” the activist captioned the video posted on the No Kings USA Instagram account.

The goofy confrontation comes days after the Trump administration deployed hundreds of ICE agents to more than a dozen major U.S. airports, including LaGuardia, JFK, Newark, Atlanta, Houston, and others, to assist TSA operations.

The move began on Monday amid a partial government shutdown that left many TSA officers unpaid, triggering widespread staffing shortages, resignations, and hours-long security lines for people traveling.

ICE agents were assigned to crowd management, logistics support, and general airport operations to help keep lines moving while the Democrat tantrum over DHS funding continued.

No official statement has been released by ICE or DHS specifically addressing this confrontation, but the agency has emphasized that its personnel are focused on supporting safe and efficient travel during the funding impasse.

Trump Attacks Newsom’s Disability – Presidency DISQUALIFIED?

President Trump has ignited a firestorm by declaring that Governor Gavin Newsom’s dyslexia disqualifies him from the presidency, raising serious questions about whether political attacks have crossed into outright discrimination while our nation remains embroiled in costly foreign conflicts.

Trump’s Repeated Attacks on Newsom’s Disability

President Trump made his third public statement within one week attacking California Governor Gavin Newsom’s dyslexia during an Oval Office session on Monday, March 17, 2026. Trump told reporters, “Gavin Newsom has admitted he has learning disabilities, dyslexia. Honestly, I’m all for people with learning disabilities but not for my president. Everything about him is dumb.” The President reinforced this position during a Fox News Radio interview, declaring flatly that “presidents can’t have a learning disability.” These remarks represent an unprecedented attack on a potential presidential candidate based solely on a neurological condition.

Newsom’s Track Record Contradicts Trump’s Claims

Governor Newsom openly disclosed his dyslexia in his autobiography “Young Man in a Hurry,” describing his high school struggles and calling the SAT “three hours of dyslexic torture.” Despite these challenges, Newsom developed rigorous study habits—including repeated readings, underlining, highlighting, and meticulous note-taking—that enabled him to overcome obstacles. His electoral success tells the real story: San Francisco voters elected him mayor twice, and California voters elected him governor twice. These victories demonstrate that voters evaluated his leadership capability, policy positions, and executive performance rather than fixating on a learning disability that affects information processing but not intelligence or judgment.

Disability Advocates Reject Presidential Fitness Test

The National Center for Learning Disabilities issued a forceful statement Monday characterizing Trump’s comments as both factually wrong and morally indefensible. The organization emphasized that dyslexia affects how the brain processes information but does not reflect a person’s intelligence, judgment, or leadership ability. They noted that individuals with learning disabilities serve successfully as teachers, entrepreneurs, scientists, military members, and public servants throughout American society. Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the governor’s wife, posted a video response calling Trump’s remarks “extremely ignorant and offensive.” Newsom himself addressed children with learning disabilities directly: “Don’t let anyone—not even the President of the United States—bully you. Dyslexia isn’t a weakness. It’s your strength.”

Political Calculation Amid Broken Promises

This controversy unfolds as Newsom positions himself as a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate, making him a natural target for Trump’s political operations. Trump frequently refers to the governor as “Gavin Newscum” and the two have repeatedly attacked each other throughout Trump’s second term. However, the disability-based criticism carries particular irony given Trump’s own well-documented communication challenges and his failure to deliver on core campaign promises. Conservatives who supported Trump’s “America First” agenda are increasingly frustrated that we’re now at war with Iran—precisely the type of regime change conflict Trump promised to avoid. Energy costs remain high, and MAGA supporters find themselves divided on continued military involvement and questioning support for Israel that has drawn America into another Middle Eastern conflict.

Constitutional Concerns and Conservative Principles

While the Constitution establishes age, citizenship, and residency requirements for presidential candidates, it contains no disability-based exclusions. Trump’s assertion that learning disabilities constitute a disqualifying condition has no legal foundation and contradicts principles of limited government that conservatives traditionally champion. The suggestion that executive authority could determine fitness standards based on neurological differences represents government overreach into areas where the Constitution deliberately remains silent. Many in the conservative base who rallied against woke discrimination now watch uncomfortably as similar categorical judgments are applied in reverse. This episode highlights the tension between political combat and the equal opportunity principles that underpin American constitutional governance, leaving supporters to wonder whether personal attacks have replaced substantive policy debates while real problems—endless wars, energy costs, fiscal mismanagement—remain unaddressed.

Over 100,000 residents in California lost power on Thursday night.

According to San Diego Gas & Electric, over 100,000 residents in San Diego and South Orange counties were left in the dark after a massive power outage.

SDGE has not released the cause of the outage, and the incident is currently under investigation.

LOOK:

Per ABC 7:

A massive power outage left tens of thousands of people without electricity Thursday night across South Orange County and parts of San Diego County.

San Diego Gas & Electric reported that more than 100,000 customers were initially affected. Video taken near the Civic Center in Mission Viejo showed one of the areas impacted by the blackout. Other areas that were impacted included Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel.

The cause of the outage was not immediately known.

“We understand how disruptive outages can be and are working to investigate the cause,” said SDG&E in a statement. “The safety of our customers, employees and communities remains our top priority.”

San Diego Gas & Electric has since issued a press release stating that power has been restored.

“Power has been fully restored to customers affected by a widespread outage impacting multiple communities in North San Diego County and Orange County this evening,” stated SDGE.

“We understand how disruptive outages can be and are working to investigate the cause,” added SDGE.

In recent years, California has suffered major power outages across the state.

Data from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) showed that power shut-offs increased by 145% in 2025.

Most of the shutoffs stem from California’s Public Safety Power Shutoff program, which cuts off power during high winds, wildfires, or low humidity.

During these planned shutoffs, some residents are without electricity for days.

Group of politicians engaged in discussion inside a historic building, surrounded by statues and onlookers, capturing a moment of political activity.

House Freedom Caucus leaders on Friday rejected a Senate-passed DHS funding bill as Senators leave town for a two-week Easter recess.

The Senate very early Friday morning, after a marathon session, unanimously approved a voice-vote package to fund the Department of Homeland Security, except for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and key parts of Customs and Border Protection.

Democrats flat-out refused to support full funding without gutting immigration raids and deportation operations.

Instead of fighting for the full funding, Thune and the Senate GOP folded in the dead of night, when no one was watching.

Thune then left town with a private escort.

Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) on Friday morning said the Freedom Caucus leaders are going to flat-out reject the Senate’s bill.

“What the Senate just sent over to the House is so laughably bad – uh, we’re rejecting it out of hand,” Chip Roy said.

He continued, “They sent over a bill that’s not gonna fund ICE and Border Patrol and stand with the great men and women that are defending our country. We reject that. We’re gonna stand along side our law enforcement personnel. We’re gonna have a full-throated debate. We’re gonna decide what we’re gonna do but suffice it to say, we’re gonna stand with those who are standing up for us for defending our country. We need to fully fund them… we’re not gonna move this Senate bill.”

“We’re gonna move something better and we’re gonna send it back to the Senate,” he added.

Many Senators have already left town so if the House agrees on a bill it will be stalled in the Senate – once again.

WATCH:

Chip Roy, flanked by other Freedom Caucus members like Andy Biggs, blasted the Senate bill in remarks to the media.

“It is absolutely offensive to the people that we represent that the Senate would send over a bill that doesn’t fund Border Patrol and the core components of ICE,” he said.

“Could the Senate be any more lazy than to send to us a bill that doesn’t do the job and then leave town? So we’re going to stand up and say NO to that. We’re going to send back a bill that’s responsible to the American people,” he said.

Just In: Secret Service Agent Shoots Himself While Escorting Jill Biden at Philadelphia Airport

On Friday morning, a Secret Service agent assigned to former First Lady Jill Biden accidentally shot himself while escorting Jill Biden through the Philadelphia International Airport.

According to KYW Radio, the agent shot himself in the leg near Terminal C in the airport.

The Daily Mail reported that officers and a medical team quickly responded to the scene, and the agent has since been transported for medical attention.

The Secret Service has yet to release a statement on the incident.

Per The Daily Mail:

The agent was escorting Biden through the busy airport Friday morning when he shot and injured himself, sources told KYW Radio.

A police cordon is in place outside of Terminal C at Philadelphia International Airport, by the American Airlines ticketing desk, the outlet reported.

Officers were seen surrounding a black Chevy Suburban inside the cordon. The vehicle’s trunk and front passenger-side door were left open.

A medic unit responded to the scene, but has since left, followed by a police car.

Since leaving the White House, Jill Biden has been busy giving speeches across the United States.

On Wednesday, Jill Biden spoke at a Women’s History Month event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where she discussed “empowering women.”

During her speech, she noted how she “sought to empower minority women, particularly in her staff.”

It’s unclear where Biden was heading when the shooting took place.

The shooting comes as airports across the United States face widespread delays and long lines, with many TSA agents reportedly not reporting to work due to a lack of pay.

Democrats in Congress are currently holding up a new DHS spending bill that would fund the TSA.
