What ‘Winning the Battle of Hormuz’ Got Wrong

The Strait was open before the war began.

Repeat after me: The Strait of Hormuz was open before the Iran War began. Sing it, shout it, say it three more times—you might even record yourself whispering the phrase then listen to the softly spoken words of wisdom as you fall asleep.

I doubt the architects and supporters of this big dumb war will take this advice, but if they did, they might finally get the message. For now, they’re still boasting that the U.S. is winning “the battle of Hormuz”—hardly a stupendous accomplishment given the fact which you are, once more, implored to recite:

The Strait of Hormuz was open before the Iran War began.

The “battle of Hormuz” phrase, as best I can tell, was coined by Mark Dubowitz of the uber-hawkish Foundation for Defense of Democracies. I first heard him use it in late March during a podcast conversation he had with Ross Douthat, at the time a New York Times opinion writer.

Back then—as it was becoming obvious that the American-Israeli strikes were not about to topple the Islamic Republic—Dubowitz argued the U.S. should prepare for a fierce battle to wrest control of the Hormuz from Iran, which effectively closed the waterway within days of the war starting. More recently, he’s taken to arguing that Iran has already lost the battle.

Senior White House officials too have emphasized American achievements in the Hormuz. “The Straits of Hormuz are open,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday. “There’s almost as much oil flowing out now as there was before this conflict began, so they’ve lost complete control of the Straits.”

To be sure, more tankers have been getting through and more oil has been getting out, while Iran struggles to ship its own exports because of a U.S. blockade. But contra Dubowitz, the battle isn’t yet won, as events of the last two weeks have made clear. In that time, Iran has escalated its attacks on Hormuz shipping—striking a dozen or so vessels—and at least one ship has turned tail on orders from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

The escalation vindicates Middle East experts who have been offering a much less optimistic assessment than Dubowitz. “I don’t think you can win a battle until the battle is over,” Rosemary Kelanic of Defense Priorities told The American Conservative. “And I think we can continue to fight this battle for a long period of time.”

A prolonged battle would be costly. The U.S. is spending an estimated $42 million dollars per day, or around $1.3 billion per month, enforcing its blockade on Iranian maritime exports. Some additional resources are needed to help other countries move their oil through the waterway—surveillance, air support, guiding vessels through the darkness of night—though reliable figures are hard to come by and to disaggregate from the blockade.

Under the memorandum of understanding signed in June by President Donald Trump and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, the Islamic Republic was empowered to administer the strait and perhaps, eventually, charge fees for passage. But the MOU broke down after the U.S. tried to set up a new shipping corridor near the Omani coastline, outside Iranian control.

“We have something like a third of deployed U.S. naval assets in the world working on this mission to blockade Iran and get oil through the Strait of Hormuz, so it’s highly resource-intensive,” said Kelanic. “The American taxpayer is footing the bill instead of having the world pay tolls.”

And the costs transcend U.S. government spending. The price of Brent crude, an international benchmark, lately hovers around $100 per barrel, up from around $70 just before the war. Some commentators have asked why global oil prices remain so stubbornly elevated even as exports via the Strait of Hormuz approach pre-war levels.

Kelanic suggested the question evinces a fundamental misunderstanding (somewhat embarrassing for me, since I asked it). “It’s moving through the Strait because prices are a hundred dollars a barrel, right?” Kelanic said. “That’s the price the market will bear to deal with the risk from Iran, because the U.S. evidently cannot prevent Iran from attacking over and over and over again.”

That’s bad news for Trump—and for Republican candidates in this year’s midterms, for whom elevated prices at the pump have created powerful headwinds. Catch-22: Getting more oil through the Strait of Hormuz doesn’t translate into lower prices, since higher prices are needed to incentivize captains and sailors, carriers and insurers, to brave the sea passage.

And there’s another problem: “Ships are ferrying almost as much crude oil out of the Strait of Hormuz as they were before the Iran war,” the Wall Street Journal reported Monday. “But they are barely moving any barrels of the fuel the world needs most: diesel.”

As if all that wasn’t enough cold water to pour on Dubowitz’s grand pronouncements, top experts have been speculating that some countries are covertly paying tolls for passage (a proposition Kelanic considered unlikely).

And Trita Parsi of the Quincy Institute, based on his conversations with Iranian insiders, suspects Tehran is allowing the strait to stabilize—to maximize the shock to energy markets when it initiates a new round of hostilities.

We shall see. In any case, it’s clear by now that “winning the battle of Hormuz” was a myopic framing that conveniently enabled supporters of this catastrophic war to argue for its continuation, and to claim some kind of victory. The rhetoric, evidently, failed to move American voters: Opposition to the consistently unpopular war just hit an all-time high.

Perhaps Americans never lost sight of a fact most inconvenient for the war hawks: The Strait of Hormuz was open before the Iran War began.

DNC Sues Trump Administration Alleging Illegal Propaganda Campaign

The Democratic National Committee sued the Trump administration on Wednesday, accusing it of using taxpayer funding to craft political advertisements ahead of November’s midterm elections.

The DNC filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, alleging that millions of dollars were spent on what amounts to government propaganda, according to the Associated Press.

The DNC complaint also claimed that Trump personally directed the ads and wants the court to declare them illegal.

This comes despite Trump saying on Monday that he would pay for future ads using his super PAC, adding that they are a “positive promotion for our Great U.S.A.”

The ads began airing in September and are estimated to have cost $12 million so far.

DNC Chair Ken Martin said this is Trump’s “last-ditch attempt to save Republicans in November.”

“Americans deserve better than to have their hard-earned tax dollars used for Trump’s illegal schemes,” he declared.

“These ads are a clear violation of the Congressional ban on the use of appropriated funds for ‘publicity or propaganda purposes,’” the DNC’s legal counsel wrote in the lawsuit.

“President Trump personally directed this illegal activity. The White House Office crafted the partisan campaign. The Office of Management and Budget shifted $20 million to pay for it. And U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has carried it out,” the lawsuit added.

“President Trump’s political propaganda ads are an attempt to resuscitate his historically low approval ratings and avoid widespread Republican defeats in the 2026 midterm election.”

The White House has defended the advertisements as informative and akin to public service announcements about federal policies and initiatives, such as Trump’s military actions in Venezuela.

This news comes as the president is fighting another lawsuit from three media outlets — CNN, Politico, and MS NOW — after they were banned from covering the White House.

The outlets filed an emergency lawsuit in federal court, leading U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly to issue a temporary restraining order restoring their credentials.

The ruling was only for two weeks, however, and is set to expire on Thursday unless Kelly extends it.

Trump initially announced the ban on Truth Social last month, and said the outlets were not reporting honestly.

“I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW (who recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility!), and Politico (The recipients of an illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription, an All Time Record, directly from the United States Government, under Crooked Joe Biden, in order to keep them ‘alive.’ Seems like corruption to me!), from the White House as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!” he wrote.

WOW! Crazed Anti-Israel Protesters in NYC Chant ‘Traitor’ at Mayor Mamdani and He Does NOT Look Happy (VIDEO)

Screencap of Twitter/X video.

Anti-Israel protesters in New York City chanted the word ‘traitor’ at Mayor Zohran Mamdani tonight when he showed up for a memorial of the October 7th attacks.

This should give every American a clear idea of just how insane and unhinged the left has become.

If Zohran Mamdani isn’t far enough to the left for you, if he is not anti-Israel enough for you, maybe you should move to someplace in the Middle East where they chant ‘death to America’ on a regular basis.

The most amazing thing here is the look on Mamdani’s face as these people chant at him. He is clearly not happy about it.

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reports:

Mayor Zohran Mamdani arrived at a New York City park on Wednesday night for an Oct. 7 vigil that was overrun by hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters.

The demonstrators swamped the area of Union Square Park that was supposed to host the event held by Israelis for Peace, a left-wing peace group. The organizers moved the vigil to a nearby spot in the park surrounded by police barricades as speakers struggled to be heard above the protesters. Attendees held electrically lit candles and signs reading, “Not one more life.”

Upon learning Mamdani was present, the pro-Palestinian protesters broke into a chant of “Traitor!” and “Zohran, what do you say? How many boots did you lick today?”

One protester yelled at Israelis for Peace organizers: “We don’t want peace with Israelis, bro! We sent your people to hell on October 7.” Other protesters weilded megaphones and drums while chanting anti-Israel slogans, including “Gaza will be liberated!”

The mayor stood solemnly throughout the event and did not speak at the vigil or address the protesters.

Watch the video. This says so much about the left today:

The revolution always ends up turning on itself.

Can you even imagine what was going through his mind as these people chanted at him?

CNN Data Analyst Harry Enten Reports Republican Voter Registration is WAY UP in Key Swing States Ahead of Midterms (VIDEO)

Screencap of Twitter/X video.

CNN’s data analyst Harry Enten reported today that Republican voter registration has gone up significantly in several key swing states.

This contradicts almost everything we are hearing about the midterms from Democrats and their liberal media allies. If all of these new Republican voters go out and vote in the midterms, the outcome could surprise quite a few people.

Enten also devotes a few minutes to Florida and suggests that Republicans are pretty much a lock there to win.

Mediaite has details:

CNN’s Harry Enten Shares Key Metric Looking ‘Gosh Darn Good’ for Republicans Heading Into the Midterms

The polls haven’t been pretty for the GOP.

But CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten reported on Wednesday there is one key metric that is looking real “good” for Republicans heading into the midterms: voter registration.

The Republicans have made significant gains in swing states compared to where they were midway through President Donald Trump’s first term, with Enten rattling off a number of places where the GOP has increased its party registration margin over the Democrats. Enten pointed to his monitor, showing Republicans have increased their lead on Democrats in Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania by between 4-8 points.

“When you take a look at how people are actually registering — this is not polling data — compared to where we were eight years ago, Republicans are doing considerably better [than the Dems] in what are the swing states,” Enten said.

He then flipped it and said looking at it from the Democratic viewpoint, yes, the polling has been positive over the last two years. But he said the Dems are “in fact, not actually gaining ground” when it comes to actually getting voters to register on their side.

Watch the clip below:

All Republican voters have to do is show up.

If voters turn out in serious numbers in November, the crazy left can be stopped in their tracks.

NEW: Trump Nukes “Disloyal and Ungrateful” Henry Cuellar Ahead of Texas Rally – “VOTE FOR TANO TIJERINA”

(Official White House Photo by Joyce N. Boghosian)

Trump pardoned Cuellar last year after he and his wife were indicted on federal bribery and money laundering charges in 2024.

The politically motivated indictment came after he lashed out at the Biden administration’s handling of the southern border, causing millions to pour into our country illegally.

Trump previously announced Cuellar and his wife’s pardon, commending the Congressman for taking a stand against his own party. Crooked Joe used the FBI and DOJ to ‘take out’ a member of his own Party after Highly Respected Congressman Henry Cuellar bravely spoke out against Open Borders, and the Biden Border ‘Catastrophe,” Trump said.

BREAKING: In Stunning Development, President Trump Issues Full and Unconditional Pardon to Texas Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar

However, just days later, Cuellar announced he would run for reelection as a Democrat again. Trump previously blasted Cuellar for “Such a lack of LOYALTY” last December. He went on to endorse former Minor League Baseball player Tano Tijerina, who is running against Cuellar as a Republican.

Now, ahead of his rally in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday night, Trump urged voters again to vote for Tijerina.

Trump also went off on Cuellar, slamming him as “disloyal and ungrateful.”

“Tano, a legendary Baseball Star, Great Athlete, respected County Judge, and fine person, will hopefully beat Cuellar so that people can show how bad it is when you are recognized and humiliated as being one of the most disloyal political people on Earth!” Trump said.

Full statement below:

To the people of Texas, I am headed your way, and one of the people that I am going to pay respect to today is Tano Tijerina. Out of love and passion, he is running against a Dumocrat, Henry Cuellar, who, along with his wife, I pardoned, at the request of his daughters, because they said, “Please don’t let them take our parents away!”

They would have gone to jail on federal fraud and conspiracy charges, for over 20 years and, in fact, Henry Cuellar’s brother, a Sheriff, a short time later, was indicted on the same charges. In any event, I did the pardons, and made no deal, where a crooked politician would have, but I thought there would be a good chance that Cuellar, who was persecuted by Democrats because they didn’t like him, would have routinely gone over to the Republican Party — The people that saved him from years in prison.

Shockingly, Cuellar announced, only a few days later, that he is going to remain a Dumocrat. Many considered this to be a tremendous act of disloyalty, and certainly, showed him to be an extremely ungrateful person. His wife, as I heard, wanted him to turn to the man and the Party that helped him, but he wouldn’t do it so, because they’re vicious, the Dumocrats will have a chance to go after him again.

In any event, the man running against him, Tano Tijerina, is a STAR and, hopefully, will WIN! We call that payback for a disloyal and ungrateful person, a person whose life has been saved only to go back into the clutches of the people that tried so hard to destroy him. Henry Cuellar is a LOSER who, right now, should be serving a longterm jail sentence with his wife in a top level penitentiary.

Tano, a legendary Baseball Star, Great Athlete, respected County Judge, and fine person, will hopefully beat Cuellar so that people can show how bad it is when you are recognized and humiliated as being one of the most disloyal political people on Earth! I only wish Henry Cuellar’s daughters, who begged for his survival, would have used the same level of charm to convince their mother and father to do the right thing.

I am very proud of the fact that I didn’t make a deal with Cuellar, which I easily could have, but relied on his character, which turned out to be a faulty one. Tano Tijerina, on the other hand, loves Loredo, and all of South Texas but, most importantly, he truly loves the United States of America.

VOTE FOR TANO TIJERINA, and show people that disloyalty only causes loss, heartache, and grief! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Cocky Singer, Trump Hater Miley Cyrus Breaks Humiliating Record, as Album Release Sees Historic Crash and Burn

Miley Cyrus’ new album fell from No. 1 to No. 157 on the Billboard 200 in its second week, the steepest drop Variety could find for a record in the week after a No. 1 debut.

“Bass Persuades” had opened at the top. When Billboard posted the top 10 of the next chart on Sunday, it was not there. The full list put it at No. 157, Variety reported Tuesday.

“Bass Persuades” was a new release. Variety said the title track had peaked at No. 35 on the Hot 100, and that reviews found the rest of the album less of a dance record than the single suggested.

Cyrus has since released a video for a follow-up, “Different Religion.”

The debut itself was narrow. Parade reported that the album opened with about 61,000 equivalent units, only 70 more than Ella Langley’s “Dandelion,” after Atlantic issued 16 vinyl variants, nine CD versions, six downloads, and a cassette, and cut the digital price.

Before that push, the album had been projected to open outside the top five.

Three weeks before the chart fall, Cyrus had talked as if the audience were already settled. On Apple Music’s Zane Lowe show, she said two Hollywood Bowl dates, set for Oct. 16 and 18, were a dress rehearsal for a residency close to home.

She told Lowe her bed would be about a 10-minute drive from the venue after the show, People reported.

Nearly 1.5 million people entered the presale queue for those two nights, People and Entertainment Weekly reported.

The Bowl holds about 17,500, so the pair of shows could seat about 35,000. Both sold out within 10 minutes, Variety reported. They are her first major dates since a Mexico City festival set in November 2022.

Lowe told her she would need something like 80 Bowl shows to meet that demand. Cyrus said that had been the idea. “I’ve learned now through the queue that my calculations are correct, and people will come to me. I don’t need to drive to you,” she said. Page Six quoted a longer version of the same remark: “Proven. That was a test. I win.”

Cyrus has also taken blunt political shots at President Donald Trump.

After Super Tuesday in 2016, Cyrus posted a screenshot of the results and wrote that she was going to “move out da country,” the Washington Examiner reported. She called Trump a “f***ing nightmare,” posted a photo of herself crying, and finished with, “Honestly f*** this s*** I am moving if this is my president! I don’t say things I don’t mean!”

She did not move.

In a 2019 Vanity Fair interview, she called the leaving talk something “we all said” and did not mean, then asked whether she would feel proud “running away from, and leaving everyone else here to live under, a completely racist, sexist, hateful a**hole.”

She stayed, and the country she said she would flee is the one whose chart just recorded the fall.

Warnings of Chinese WHO Takeover Strengthen the Case for US Withdrawal

Warnings that U.S. withdrawal from the WHO will strengthen China raise the question of why American taxpayers should fund resistance that other member nations could organize themselves. Photo courtesy of the White House.

Warnings that America’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization will expand China’s influence raise a question for European governments: Why must American taxpayers finance the resistance to Beijing? Washington was the WHO’s largest donor, yet its contributions failed to resolve the administration’s concerns about Chinese influence. If European governments believe remaining in the organization can restrain China, they must explain how they intend to accomplish what they expected the United States to do.

The Trump administration refused on September 25, 2026, to back a UN political declaration on pandemic preparedness. By then, President Donald Trump had taken the United States out of the WHO, ended talks on the WHO Pandemic Agreement, and turned down changes to the International Health Regulations. To justify those moves, the administration pointed repeatedly to China’s sway over the organization.

At the September UN meeting, the U.S. representative opposed language in the declaration tied to pathogen access and benefit sharing, a framework still under negotiation, among other concerns. China’s delegate called for progress on the pandemic agreement and urged developed countries to provide financial and technological support to developing nations. The objections prevented adoption by consensus that day, leaving the declaration for further consideration by the General Assembly.

When the withdrawal became final on January 22, 2026, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. issued a joint statement saying all U.S. funding and staffing of WHO initiatives had ended. They accused the organization of obstructing the timely sharing of critical information and said public health cooperation would continue through direct partnerships with other countries and institutions.

The following day, Democrat representative Gregory Meeks, ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, warned that withdrawal would “grant China an unprecedented opportunity to assert greater influence.” Meeks also argued that leaving the organization would weaken America’s ability to prevent infectious diseases from reaching the United States.

Similar objections came from Europe during Trump’s first withdrawal attempt. In July 2020, Ulrich Lechte, then chairman of the German parliament’s UN subcommittee, criticized the withdrawal, arguing that Washington was giving in to China instead of confronting it within international organizations. His criticism placed responsibility on the United States to remain and resist Beijing, raising the question of what European members could accomplish themselves.

Those warnings must be considered alongside the funding Washington supplied while it remained a member. In 2022–2023, no donor gave the WHO more than the United States, which provided $1.284 billion. China contributed approximately $156 million, including about $115 million in assessed dues and $41 million in specified voluntary contributions. China’s contribution was approximately 88 percent less than America’s.

Despite that financial disparity, the Trump administration repeatedly accused the WHO of yielding to Beijing.

In a May 18 letter in 2020 to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Trump accused the organization of an “alarming lack of independence from the People’s Republic of China.” He said the WHO had ignored early reports of COVID-19 spreading in Wuhan, relied on Chinese government accounts, and praised China’s transparency despite reports that authorities had silenced doctors who spoke about the virus.

Trump’s letter also alleged that Taiwanese authorities had provided information indicating human-to-human transmission by December 31, 2019, but that the WHO had not shared it. Separately, then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo condemned Taiwan’s exclusion from the World Health Assembly and said Tedros had declined to invite it under pressure from China. Taiwan had participated as an observer from 2009 to 2016.

Trump announced the termination of America’s relationship with the WHO in May 2020. His administration formally initiated withdrawal that July, but President Joe Biden reversed the decision in January 2021.

Trump restarted the withdrawal on January 20, 2025, with Executive Order 14155. The order pointed to the WHO’s pandemic response, its failure to reform, and its lack of independence from political influence. It also pulled the United States out of talks on the Pandemic Agreement and the International Health Regulations amendments.

In a May 20, 2025, World Health Assembly address, Kennedy said that while the United States had historically supplied much of the WHO’s funding, China had exerted undue influence over its operations.

That same day, Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong announced an additional $500 million for the WHO over five years. He defended multilateral cooperation, supported the organization’s leading role, and warned that unilateralism and power politics threatened global health security.

The additional pledge averages $100 million annually, approximately 16 percent of the $642 million the United States contributed annually on average in 2022–2023. It does not replace the historical American contribution, although Beijing could gain greater influence without assuming Washington’s financial burden.

Rubio and Kennedy formally turned down the International Health Regulations amendments on July 18, 2025. They argued the changes did nothing to protect the WHO from political pressure and censorship during outbreaks, with China as the chief source.

A 2026 study suggested that China could become the WHO’s largest payer of mandatory member dues after America’s departure. The researchers identified additional avenues for Chinese influence, including placing more Chinese experts in WHO positions and using bilateral health partnerships to build support among developing countries.

The distinction between financial contributions and political influence matters. Under the WHO’s constitution, each member has one vote in the World Health Assembly, regardless of how much it contributes. American financial dominance therefore did not provide corresponding voting power.

Rubio and Kennedy framed their rejection of the amendments as a defense of America’s right to set its own health policy. Greater Chinese influence within the WHO does not itself give Beijing authority to dictate American health policy.

The argument for remaining rests on the claim that American participation can restrain Beijing. Yet the administration’s objections concerned Chinese influence while the United States was still a member and the largest donor. Critics of withdrawal must explain how continued participation would overcome the problems Washington cited, and why other members cannot organize that resistance themselves.

Minnesota Sheriff Demands Somali Gang Task Force After Shooting Causes Homecoming Cancellation

Ramsey County, Minnesota, Sheriff Bob Fletcher is pictured at a news conference Tuesday where he called for a regional task for to crack down on Somali gang violence in the Twin Cities.

Ramsey County, Minnesota, Sheriff Bob Fletcher is pictured at a news conference Tuesday where he called for a regional task for to crack down on Somali gang violence in the Twin Cities.

A Minnesota sheriff is demanding a metro-wide crackdown on Somali gang violence in the Twin Cities. The sheriff who actually covers the suburb where a homecoming game was shot up on Friday is telling him to stay on his own side of the river.

Bob Fletcher is the sheriff of Ramsey County, the St. Paul side of the Twin Cities. At a Tuesday news conference, he backed the idea of a regional task force and asked other agencies to join in staffing it.

He said the criminal crews move from suburb to suburb, across jurisdictional lines, and that police will need shared intelligence, more arrests, and prosecutors willing to take the cases. He named two Hennepin County officials he wants in: Sheriff Dawanna Witt and County Attorney Mary Moriarty.

“We need to go out and get the perpetrators,” Fletcher said, according to KSTP-TV in St. Paul.

Witt runs the sheriff’s office in Hennepin County, which covers Minneapolis and the western suburbs, including the city where Friday’s shooting happened. At her own news conference, she brushed Fletcher off.

“He just has a habit of talking about stuff he don’t know nothing about,” she said, according to KMSP-TV in St. Paul. “So he shouldn’t mind Ramsey County business.”

KMSP reported that she described her office as already shifted toward gang work and said it was already passing tips to other departments.

The game was Friday night in Eden Prairie and gunfire outside the stadium emptied the stands during a homecoming matchup, KSTP reported. Two people were hit. Police said the wounds were not life-threatening, the victims were not students at either school, and the shooting appeared to be targeted.

The game was suspended.

KSTP reported that three law enforcement sources said the gunfire was tied to Somali gang activity. The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that the two wounded were Somali teens.

The school called off Saturday’s homecoming dance. Principal Jaysen Anderson wrote families in a Facebook post that a dance less than a day after “a trauma in our community feels out of place,” even if the district could have secured it. The football game was played out Monday night.

Eden Prairie Mayor Ron Case then asked for a regional effort against what he called “gang activity among East African youth.” Fletcher’s briefing was cast as an answer to that request and to shootings in Eden Prairie and Edina that police have tied to gangs.

Fletcher put the number of youths involved at about 300. On KMSP, he said that is a thin slice of a Somali population he put above 100,000. However, he said only a run of arrests would convince the groups that shootings would draw a response.

“We need to arrest 50 of these 300 kids,” he said.

Edina held a public meeting the night before Fletcher spoke. Mayor Jim Hovland opened it by calling the metro problem a “Somali youth gang-type problem,” and told residents not to read that as a judgment on Somali families, according to the conservative Minnesota news site Alpha News.

Witt was in that room, along with the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension superintendent and the police chiefs of Edina and Eden Prairie.

Speakers got about three minutes.  A school bus driver blamed Minneapolis “spillover” and said crime was “brought on by the sanctuary policies” of Gov. Tim Walz, according to Alpha News.

After that meeting, Eden Prairie police confirmed gunfire at a Speedway convenience near the high school. No one was hurt, and four people were held. Sources told Alpha News that Somalis were involved.

A predawn shooting Tuesday in Bloomington, also in Hennepin County, was tied to Somali gangs by sources who spoke to the same outlet. Alpha News also reported that Edina’s police chief later said a shots-fired call on a church-and-school campus involved Somalis.

Fletcher has used the figure of about 300 since summer. The Star Tribune reported that he has come under fire from the leader of a local Islamic center who wants him to see “crime as crime,” rather than a matter of ethnicity.

Case wants state and local police, prosecutors, schools, social services, youth groups, and Somali leaders to join forces to crack down on crime. Fletcher said he wants Hennepin’s sheriff and prosecutor to crack down with some arrests and prosecutions.

Witt’s reply was not encouraging.
