A federal judge on Friday blocked border wall construction in the Big Bend region in Texas.

US District Judge Kathleen Cardone, a George W. Bush appointee, issued a preliminary injunction blocking border wall construction in Texas’s Big Bend region and Big Bend National Park.

The scope of Judge Cardone’s order includes patrol roads, border barriers or related infrastructure.

Environmental advocacy group Center for Biological Diversity filed the lawsuit in April and argued that the border wall construction lacked approval from Congress.

Judge Cardone sided with the plaintiffs on Friday and stopped the bulldozing and road-clearing by contractors while the lawsuit makes its way through the courts.

The Texas Tribune reported:

A judge on Friday blocked further border barrier construction in the Big Bend region, approving an environmental group’s motion for a preliminary injunction.

At the end of Friday’s hearing, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone asked the courtroom to remain calm while she read her order aloud from the bench.

She ruled that the plaintiffs’ constitutional claims to halt the construction were likely to succeed and her preliminary injunction against “ground-distrurbing activities” would remain in effect while the suit continued to play out in court.

The legal team at the Center for Biological Diversity, an environmental advocacy group, filed the lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security and its secretary in April on behalf of the Friends of the Ruidosa Church, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving a historic church in Presidio County, and Danny William Miller, a Rio Grande river guide and landowner who stands to lose his property in Redford to the wall.

The lawsuit argues that the five contracted border wall projects in the region are unconstitutional for a range of reasons, including violating the constitutional separation of powers and depriving citizens of their land.

NEW: DOJ Says It Will NOT Reopen Criminal Investigation Into Jerome Powell

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell delivers a speech, addressing economic policies with an American flag backdrop.

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell delivers a speech, addressing economic policies with an American flag backdrop.

The Justice Department on Friday said it will not reopen its criminal investigation into former Fed Chair Jerome Powell.

Federal investigators in January opened a criminal investigation into Fed Chairman Jerome Powell.

Powell was under fire for the cost of renovating the Fed’s DC headquarters. The cost ballooned from $1.9 billion to $2.5 billion.

Last July, Jerome Powell was criminally referred to the Justice Department for prosecution.

Earlier this year, Judge Boasberg, an Obama appointee, quashed the Justice Department’s subpoenas issued to Fed Chairman Jerome Powell.

In April, the Justice Department dropped its criminal investigation into Jerome Powell.

Attorney General Todd Blanche on Friday said the DOJ will not reopen its criminal case into Jerome Powell, who currently sits on the Board of Governors at the Fed.

CNBC reported:

The Department of Justice will not reopen its criminal investigation into former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell over the central bank’s overbudget multibillion-dollar headquarters renovation a department spokesperson told CNBC.

“We’re not reopening a criminal investigation into him,” Blanche told Bloomberg in an interview Friday.

Blanche did not rule out future Justice Department action in his interview. He told the outlet an independent audit of the renovation could prompt an investigation if it uncovers evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

His comments come days after the Federal Reserve’s inspector general found no reasonable grounds to believe that a federal crime had occurred requiring a referral to the attorney general, even as the watchdog faulted the central bank for major management and oversight failures that contributed to the project’s soaring costs.

The Justice Department’s decision comes after the Fed watchdog determined no criminality in the central bank’s renovation.

Ukraine’s Pokrova Observance Links Christian Faith and Military Service

Pokrova, the Feast of the Protection of the Mother of God, honors Mary as protectress and coincides with Ukraine’s October 1 observances honoring its defenders and Cossacks.

On October 1, Ukrainian Orthodox and Greek Catholics, who together comprise 70.1 percent of the population, celebrate Pokrova, the Feast of the Protection of the Mother of God. Honoring Mary as protectress, the feast coincides with Ukraine’s Day of Defenders and Day of Ukrainian Cossacks, linking Christian faith with military service.

Theotokos means “Mother of God,” or literally, “God-bearer,” while Pokrova means “protection” or “covering.” According to tradition, the feast recalls a vision of Mary at the Church of Blachernae in Constantinople when invading Rus’ forces threatened the city. As the faithful prayed, Mary extended her veil over them as a sign of her protection and intercession.

Centuries later, the Ukrainian Cossacks adopted the Mother of God as their heavenly protectress. Ukrainians honor these soldiers and settlers as symbols of courage and freedom. Forming communities along the Dnipro River, they defended their people, elected leaders, and established the Cossack Hetmanate, a form of Ukrainian self-government.

The Cossacks built churches dedicated to Mary’s Protection, and Ukrainian icons portrayed her extending her mantle over Cossacks, soldiers, clergy, and families. Today, the October 1 observances carry that tradition forward, honoring Ukraine’s defenders and remembering those who have died.

Traditional Ukrainian images depict Mary extending her protective veil over Cossacks, who honored her as their heavenly protectress.

For many Americans, particularly those raised in the South, including this author, who grew up in Tennessee, Christian faith, military service, and patriotism are inextricably linked. In the Bible Belt, we were raised with religion, guns, the American flag, and an expectation that we would serve in the military.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has brought that religiosity back to the U.S. military with policies such as a Chaplain Corps overhaul, which scrapped the Army’s Spiritual Fitness Guide for mentioning God only once. He also directed chaplains to wear religious insignia instead of rank because, in his words, they are “first and foremost called and ordained by God.” He has hosted monthly worship services at the Pentagon since May 2025, the first of which was led by his pastor from Tennessee.

Across Ukraine, in cities like Sloviansk where drones and missiles fall day and night, Christians are reminded that Mary’s protection does not promise freedom from suffering. Through her intercession, believers ask God for strength, courage, and faith amid the suffering.

Nearly every building in the city has been hit, but a Protestant church miraculously remains intact despite drone strikes in its parking lot.

The majority of residents have left, including most wives and children sent to safety. Those remaining include men defending the city, families, and a handful of elderly babushkas who refuse to leave. They continue attending church regularly, keeping their faith.

When Free Burma Rangers, a U.S.-based frontline aid organization, visited the church, the group’s leader, David Eubank, encouraged the faithful to pray that God would change the hearts of the enemy and end the war rather than pray for victory.

His message reflected Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 5:44: “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”

At the church, a chaplain named Sergius spoke about his experience as a frontline soldier. He now carries a Bible and a Ukrainian flag to the front to encourage soldiers and remind them that Jesus stands with them.

The Rangers accompanied another chaplain, Alex, who takes food, prayers, and Bibles to the front every day, expertly navigating the bomb blasts. He did not want to send his family away, but when a bomb blew up a car in front of his house, he decided it was time. Now he remains without his family, serving God and frontline soldiers.

A true warrior for Christ, Alex is handy with a shotgun and a champion at shooting down drones. His most harrowing moment came when a drone chased his car. He drove at an unsafe speed along broken roads until he outran it. Alex lives the Word and risks his life to minister to others.

The Rangers and chaplains prayed with soldiers in defensive fighting positions and underground bunkers as explosions roared overhead. Alex described how the soldiers change from week to week. Those he visited the previous week are killed, wounded, or reassigned, and new soldiers arrive.

Free Burma Rangers founder, David Eubank, leads a devotion for Ukrainian soldiers on the front line. Photo by Antonio Graceffo.

Huddled in a concrete basement, soldiers paused their work to hear a sermon and pray with the chaplain and the Rangers. One soldier said he was not observant and initially showed no interest in participating. After the prayers, however, he opened up, saying his wife had left him and he had nothing to return to after the war. Broken families are another cost of the conflict.

Emerging from the cellar, Alex led the Rangers back to their vehicles, staying in the tree line to avoid being targeted. He would remain in his bombed-out home, which he now shares with another chaplain, continuing the service he felt called to perform.

The Rangers continued to the Carpathian Mountains to run a Junior Ranger program with Bible Orphan Ministry, a Ukrainian Christian organization. Its leader, 47-year-old Alla Vasilyeva, explained that the children were classified in Ukraine as “social orphans.” Their parents were not necessarily deceased. Many were unable or unwilling to care for them.

The children’s circumstances were a reminder that existing social problems persist during war and become amplified.

When reports of a severe airstrike arrived during the weeklong program, Vasilyeva shook her head, saying, “And now there will be more orphans.”

The next day, rockets hit the home village of the Bible Orphan Ministry volunteers. Reports came in with rising numbers of wounded and dead. Yet the volunteers remained with the orphans.

In Ukrainian religious art, the Theotokos, the Blessed Virgin Mary, is often depicted spreading her veil of protection over families and soldiers alike. The volunteers’ care for the orphans reflected that image of maternal protection.

After a week filled with love, learning about Jesus, first aid, physical training, self-defense, and art therapy, several children were baptized by Free Burma Rangers chaplains. The children then returned to homes that were not only broken by family dysfunction but also being bombed daily.

After the mission concluded, David Eubank reflected on the connection between faith and war as he traveled back to the conflict in Burma. A former U.S. Army Special Forces and Ranger officer who has spent more than 35 years providing help, hope, and love in war zones, he said resisting evil begins with examining ourselves.

“We know the line of good and evil is not between us and the enemy, it’s in our own hearts. So first we ask God to purify us and then we ask God to bless and change our enemies’ hearts. And then we ask God to help us stand for what’s true. So in the middle of that, we can be in combat and not be given over into hate. We can pray for our enemies to change.”

His prayer on the Feast of the Protection of the Theotokos linked military service with mercy for the enemy: “We can show mercy when they are defeated and we can have hope even when we’re defeated because we’re doing God’s work on earth as it is in heaven. This is my prayer for all of us.”

A Controversial Sermon and the Vision for the Islamic State of North America by 2050, and the Commemoration of a Dead Terrorist Leader

Image: Wikimedia Commons (Altar Road in Dearborn, Michigan by Rmhermen)

A video of the sermon given at the As-Sabiqun mosque in Washington, D.C., on September 11, 2026, was initially streamed online through the organization’s official channels. Due to the remarks made during the sermon, the video sparked public attention and scrutiny. Archived footage and transcripts of the sermon are now accessible on the website of the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

The mosque’s imam stated, “Our goal is to [establish] the Islamic State of North America by 2050.”

Notably, by 2050, projections from the Pew Research Center indicate that the global Muslim population will be almost equal to, but not quite exceed, the number of Christians. Islam is expected to surpass Christianity later in the century, around 2070.

This ambitious vision aligns with broader demographic trends, as projections from the Pew Research Center indicate that by 2050, the global Muslim population will be almost equal to, but not quite exceed, the number of Christians. In fact, Islam is anticipated to surpass Christianity later in the century, around 2070.

Notably, the imam also referred to the 9/11 attacks as a “joke” and “a tool to go after the Muslims” aimed at destabilizing and dividing the Muslim community to prevent them from posing a threat to Western security. “This is what 9/11 was. It was a false flag.”

“… So at this time, let us build the buildup of the Islamic movement, and invite America to Islam. This is our mission.”

The controversial nature of these statements did not stand alone on the heels of 9/11; just two weeks later, on September 25, the Hadi Institute Shiite Islamic Center in Dearborn, Michigan, further fueled the Islamic discourse by hosting a memorial service to honor the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

During the event, an unidentified community member delivered a eulogy, expressing that “the streets of Beirut and all over Lebanon” mourn the loss of Nasrallah, who was killed on September 27, 2024.

“…yes, we do definitely miss our dear Sayyid, but we tell our dear Sayyid that the martyred Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah is even stronger and his message lives on forever,” the speaker stated.

Addressing critics who label Nasrallah a terrorist or view his supporters as sympathizers, he asserted, “We are not scared of you … We know who the true terrorists are. The terrorists are the ones who bomb children. The terrorists are the ones who commit a genocide. And we are not scared, and we are proud to say Hassan Nasrallah is our leader and the person we look up to because he was the one who stood up for the oppressed.”

Moments before Usama Abdulghani, the imam of the Hadi Institute, began to deliver his remarks, the speaker said, “… it is our duty and our responsibility and our honor to say that [Hassan Nasrallah] is our leader. And we are not scared.”

This declaration echoed in a city with one of the largest Muslim populations in the nation, making it no surprise that support for Nasrallah in Dearborn is strong, but who exactly was Nasrallah?

Throughout his 32-year tenure as the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Nasrallah was linked to numerous acts of terrorism. His leadership has seen the organization engage in explosive attacks, military provocations, and cross-border rocket strikes targeting civilian populations.

As a result of these actions, Nasrallah was officially designated a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the United States, while Hezbollah continues to be designated as a terrorist organization by several entities, including the U.S. Department of State, Israel, the European Union, and member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

This designation was largely influenced by a series of heinous acts orchestrated under his command, one of the most devastating being a catastrophic event in 1994 when Hezbollah’s covert external operations unit executed a suicide bombing at the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA) Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. This attack resulted in the deaths of 85 individuals and injuries to over 300, making it the deadliest terrorist act in Argentina’s history.

Intelligence reports also established connections between Nasrallah’s command network and various plots aimed at Israelis, Westerners, and Jewish institutions across Europe, Asia, and South America. Notable disruptions occurred in countries such as Thailand, India, and Bulgaria.

In 2006, Nasrallah’s authorization of a surprise cross-border raid into Israel to abduct soldiers directly instigated the Second Lebanon War. This conflict led to the indiscriminate firing of thousands of rockets into Israeli civilian areas.

Further extending his influence, Nasrallah deployed thousands of Hezbollah terrorists into Syria beginning in 2012 to support the regime of Bashar al-Assad. Western authorities accused his forces of involvement in operations that resulted in the massacre, siege, and displacement of Syrian civilians.

Most recently, from October 8, 2023, Nasrallah was aligned with Hamas and initiated a year-long assault on northern Israel, launching more than 6,000 rockets, missiles, and explosive drones into Israeli territory. This offensive resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians and the displacement of over 60,000 individuals.

After drawing international attention and condemnation, the violent campaign was brought to an abrupt end when Nasrallah was killed in a targeted Israeli airstrike on September 27, 2024.

Although Nasrallah has been labeled a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the United States, it is not surprising that the Dearborn Shiite Islamic center is marking the two-year anniversary of his death.

The Detroit suburb boasts a predominantly Arab population, with an estimated Muslim demographic ranging from 45% to 54%, making it the U.S. city with the highest percentage of Arab and Muslim residents. The city is governed by influential Muslim officials, particularly Abdullah Hammoud, who is recognized as the first Arab-American and Muslim mayor.

Appointed by Mayor Hammoud and assuming his role in January 2022, Police Chief Issa Shahin is the first Muslim to head the Dearborn Police Department. He also serves as the vice chair of the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). Dearborn’s seven-member City Council also showcases significant representation from the Arab-American and Muslim communities.

The events surrounding the sermon at the As-Sabiqun mosque and the subsequent memorial for Hassan Nasrallah highlight the complex dynamics within the Muslim community in America, where strong emotions and diverse perspectives exist alongside a burgeoning Muslim faith…but is this type of rhetoric welcome in America?

Michigan Woman Who Received Biden-Era Presidential Award Arrested in Alleged $1 Million Fraud Scheme

United States District Court – Eastern Michigan District

A Michigan woman who plastered photos of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris next to her name in 2024 has been arrested and charged with wire fraud after federal prosecutors say she posed as an ambassador, a private banker, and a successful hotel owner to steal more than $1 million from victims.

Shannon Monet Steel, 42, of Farmington Hills, was arrested by the FBI and made her first appearance in federal court in Detroit on September 1, 2026.

She is charged with wire fraud. She was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. Wire fraud carries a maximum of 20 years in federal prison.

According to the New York Post, which reviewed court filings first reported by the Detroit News, Steel targeted at least eight victims between 2022 and 2026 and pocketed at least $1.05 million in so-called “good faith” escrow money. Prosecutors say she promised victims millions in loans from a bank that does not exist, then kept the cash.

The lies were not subtle.

Steel publicly billed herself as an appointed ambassador of the Central African Republic to the United States and as “Ambassador to the First Lady” of that country.

On her foundation website, she wrote that she was “the newly appointed Ambassador for the First Lady of C.A.R. NGO on a mission to eradicate poverty.” Investigators say she is not an accredited diplomat of any country to the United States.

The probe picked up speed after a reporter asked the State Department’s Office of Foreign Missions to confirm the title. The answer was no.

She also claimed to own Steel Private Bank, which she said controlled roughly $350 million in assets, and, in one document, more than €300 million.

In February 2026, she convinced a California businessman to wire $200,000 to a Michigan escrow account in exchange for a standby letter of credit.

To close the deal, she handed over a “Bank Confirmation Letter” that appeared to come from Deutsche Bank. Deutsche Bank investigators later told the FBI the letter was fraudulent and that the account number on it was not hers, according to the criminal complaint filed in the Eastern District of Michigan.

The bank itself was a fiction. Federal agents found no U.S.-registered, FDIC-insured bank owned by Steel.

The hotel story collapsed the same way. Steel claimed she bought and renovated an Embassy Suites by Hilton in Southfield for $3 million and flipped it into a Wyndham.

Court records say the property was never granted a certificate of occupancy and was never authorized to open. Ramada Worldwide later won a default judgment against her for more than $1.5 million over a franchise dispute, according to the New York Post.

Then there is the Biden honor.

In 2024, Steel received a President’s Lifetime Achievement Award through the President’s Volunteer Service Awards program during Joe Biden’s presidency.

Steel publicized the honor alongside images of then-President Biden and then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

But investigators later raised serious questions about how she qualified for it.

According to Local 4, federal court records allege Steel received the award without documentation establishing that she had completed the volunteer-service requirements.

The outlet reported that AmeriCorps determined the award was inconsistent with program guidelines based on information uncovered by investigators.

The complaint further states that the broader awards program was suspended amid concerns about fraud and inadequate oversight.

New FBI Records Obtained by Judicial Watch Reveal Thomas Crooks’ Mysterious Chat Thread with Unidentified Person and Drone Pictures

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch obtained 249 pages of FBI records related to attempted Trump assassin Thomas Crooks.

Thomas Crooks was able to climb on the roof of the AGR building, put President Trump in his scope from an elevated position, and fire his weapon at Trump on July 13, 2024.

President Trump was shot in the ear, and firefighter Corey Comperatore was fatally shot.

A countersniper killed Crooks.

It has been more than two years since the attempted assassination in Butler and the FBI is still withholding documents from the public.

Last month, President Trump said by the time he got into office in January 2025, the Thomas Crooks records were missing, altered or corrupted.

Judicial Watch obtained drone photos taken of a Pittsburgh area arena and a mysterious chat threat between Thomas Crooks and an unidentified individual.

Crooks also received a package delivery from Hong Kong.

Judicial Watch reported:

An FBI electronic communication dated July 19, 2024, concerns a cell phone conversation in the Crooks investigation described as a “chat thread” between Crooks and a recipient whose name is redacted. The conversation occurred between May 21, 2023, and January 3, 2024.

The outgoing messages consist largely of one- and two-word messages or character strings, including:

The incoming messages are completely redacted from this text chain.

A report titled “Samsung Messaging Review” is dated July 18, 2024, and details the FBI’s identification of other communications on a Crooks cell phone as “pertinent” to its investigation. FBI agents noted:

Conversations with [redacted] 9 January 2023 to 16 January 2023;
Conversations with [redacted] 12 December 2022 to 26 December 2022.

The FBI also noted text messages consisting of campaign solicitations from then-U.S. Senate candidate Raphael Warnock and DHL shipment notifications from Hong Kong.

“These latest records reveal more pieces of the puzzle surrounding Thomas Crooks,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The FBI should stop the slow drip of heavily redacted records and immediately provide the full investigative record – especially since the death last week of James Copenhaver, who was severely injured from being shot during the assassination attempt on President Turmp.”

It was also revealed last month that an anonymous donor paid to cremate Thomas Crooks, the 20-year-old who climbed a rooftop in Butler, Pennsylvania, and tried to murder Donald Trump, just ten days after the July 13, 2024 assassination attempt.

Captain Smit Machchhar, the FlyDubai pilot who, despite fighting for his life after being stabbed by his copilot, an Omani national, managed to unlock the cockpit door to allow passengers in to subdue the hijacker, is recovering in the hospital.

Fox News reports that Machchhar spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi from his hospital bed, recounting the chaotic moments before his brave decision saved lives.

During a phone call on Friday, Machchhar told Modi, “You are my biggest idol, and I am feeling very proud that you called me and encouraged me. I was fighting for my life in that moment.”

“It was a moment when I thought, because I had fallen on the floor, I was wounded and fell down.”

“At that moment, I thought if I don’t get up, I’ve been flying for the last 17 years and I have been a captain for the last 11 years, and even if I shut my eyes, I can tell what is happening inside a plane.”

“When I was lying on the floor, I could feel that the aircraft was plunging, and I said to myself while I was getting beaten, ‘This is the last push Smit, do it, the door is right there,’” he shared.

“Somehow, I opened the door and everyone came in and everyone else had an equal role (in the rescue). I was trying to save myself, but I also knew that I can’t let anyone die,” he said.

After he was able to unlock the door, a group of passengers stormed the cockpit, subduing the co-pilot, keeping the aircraft stable, and tending to Machchhar.

Reporter Aditya Raj Kaul shared Machchhar continues to improve but suffered massive blood loss and deep wounds.

Orange County District Attorney Throws the Book at Woman Who Ran Over Puppy with Minivan

Hahn Nguyen runs over puppy in Orange County, California

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer threw the book at the elderly woman who allegedly intentionally ran over her puppy with a minivan.

An elderly Orange County, , woman was arrested for dumping a puppy on the street and running over it with a minivan.

A Ring camera caught Hahn Nguyen, 75, of Anaheim, pulling over her minivan in a Santa Ana neighborhood, putting her 9-month-old pitbull mix puppy on the pavement, dumping a pile of dog food, and driving off.

As Nguyen drove away, she ran over the puppy, paused as the tire was on top of the dog, and then drove off.

The Santa Ana Police Department used a license plate reader technology to identify and locate Nguyen.

According to the Orange County Register, Nguyen’s boyfriend was annoyed that the puppy was chewing his shoes.

Hahn Nguyen planned to abandon the dog at a park. She told police that she did not intentionally run over the puppy.

Todd Spitzer’s office charged Hahn Nguyen with felony animal cruelty and felony animal abuse with a felony enhancement for personal use of a weapon, Fox News’ Bill Melugin reported.

“This act of violence not only ended the life of an innocent puppy, but it also inflicted trauma on every single person who came across the video footage of the murder of an animal,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer in a statement to Fox News.

“Violence is not a singular act. It inflicts pain and suffering on those who are subjected to it and on those who witness it. As the elected District Attorney of Orange County, I refuse to accept a society in which violence of any kind is acceptable. Let me be clear that those who engage in violence in Orange County, whether it is against human beings or animals, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.”
