JUST IN: Supreme Court Rejects Challenge to Abortion Pill

The US Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a bid to restrict access to the abortion pill Mifepristone.

A group of doctors sued to restrict Mifepristone after the FDA approved the drug and relaxed regulatory requirements.

The Supreme Court unanimously rejected the challenge and said the doctors don’t have a legal standing to sue, NBC News reported.

“Under Article III of the Constitution, a plaintiff’s desire to make a drug less available for others does not establish standing to sue. Nor do the plaintiffs’ other standing theories suffice,” Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote, Fox News reported.

NBC reported:

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a challenge to the abortion pill mifepristone, meaning the commonly used drug can remain widely available.

The court found unanimously that the group of anti-abortion doctors who questioned the Food and Drug Administration’s decisions making it easier to access the pill did not have legal standing to sue.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh, writing for the court, wrote that while plaintiffs have “sincere legal, moral, ideological, and policy objections to elective abortion and to FDA’s relaxed regulation of mifepristone,” that does not mean they have a federal case.

The plaintiffs failed to show they had suffered any injury, meaning that “the federal courts are the wrong forum for addressing the plaintiffs’ concerns about FDA’s actions,” he added.

As the Shadow War Between Iran and Israel Continues, There’s More Talk About Nukes From the Islamic Regime

Image: Wikimedia Commons

With Israel in the crosshairs over threats to attack Iran’s nuclear sites, a senior foreign policy figure in Tehran suggests Iran might already have the nuclear capability to keep them at bay.

Last month, Iran International reported Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani’s announcement concerning the possession of nuclear weapons by the Iranian regime. Re-elected to parliament in March, the insider politician said:

“[Iran has] achieved nuclear weapons, but we do not announce it. It means our policy is to possess nuclear bombs, but our declared policy is currently within the framework of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action). The reason is that when countries want to confront others, their capabilities must be compatible, and Iran’s compatibility with America and Israel means that Iran must have nuclear weapons.”

The Gateway Pundit spoke to Clare Lopez about Ardestani’s remarks. Lopez, founder and president of Lopez Liberty, LLC, and long-time researcher of the Iranian nuclear threat, said, “Considering all the evidence, it’s very plausible.” She explained that Ardestani would not have been allowed to make his statements without, first, the approval of the regime.

In April 2022, on ISCA News, Iranian Majles member Ali Motaheri admitted that “when we [Iran] began our nuclear activity, our goal was indeed to build a bomb, [adding] there is no need to beat around the bush.”

Statements like these, according to Lopez, are examples that “they’re growing bolder and they’re not hiding it anymore.”

In August 2002, Alireza Jafarzadeh, the Deputy Director of the Washington office of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), publicly announced the existence of Iran’s clandestine nuclear weapons program. Over decades ago, satellite images of the Natanz uranium enrichment site and the Arak heavy water facility were being shown for the first time at the briefing. “The Washington, D.C., press conference basically blew the lid off Iran’s government,” said Lopez.

In November 2011, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) produced a report about the Iranian nuclear weapons program, identifying all the “possible military dimensions” of the program, Lopez shared. The report revealed, “Iran was working on a project to secure a source of uranium suitable for use in an undisclosed enrichment program, the product of which would be converted into metal for use in the new warhead which was the subject of the missile re-entry vehicle studies.”

What’s more, Lopez pointed out that the 2011 report not only developed “the hemispheres that go into the pit of a bomb,” but was also experimenting with “multipoint implosion point detonators.”

Lopez said a January 2016 raid directed by the Israeli Mossad further confirmed, like the previous IAEA report, that “Iran was actively working on a nuclear weapons program.” In April 2018, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that over 100,000 files were seized in a Tehran warehouse, including those dating back to 2003 to reveal Iran was setting the stage for nuclear warhead development.

With two decades of falsifying information followed by increased public disclosure of their nuclear weapons program, Lopez said, “I don’t think there’s any question they’re building warheads.” But interestingly, she pointed out, “the international community is going to continue to refuse to call it a weapon until that warhead is actually attached to the nose of a missile delivery system.”

“While I believe they have warheads and they have missiles, I think attaching a warhead to the nose of a missile would result in Israel’s final red line,” she warned. “And you better believe they’re watching, [while] the Mossad is working with internal Iranian opposition, like the Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MEK), to offer the warning when Iran makes the decision to attach warheads to missiles.”

“When that time comes,” Lopez said, “Israel’s going to have to make quite a decision.”

After Soros-Backed State’s Attorney Kim Foxx Declines to Press Charges Against Alleged Gang Members for Murder of Teen National Guardsman, Feds Forced to Step In to Pursue Justice

Soros-funded Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has been an absolute disaster for Chicagoans. In her first three years alone, Foxx dismissed over 25,000 felony cases in the Chicago area.

The Gateway Pundit reported that Foxx announced she will not seek re-election in 2024. But that still leaves two years for her to continue to push policies that wreak havoc on the city.

Highlighting yet another of Foxx’s failures, federal prosecutors announced that they have indicted two alleged gang members in the murder of 19-year-old National Guardsman Chrys Caravajal on July 3, 2021 after Foxx refused to issue charges.

According to the unsealed indictment, the two suspects, Gary Robertson, 40, and Joseph Matos, 41, are accused of gunning down Caravajal in a drive-by shooting in an effort to increase their positions in the Milwaukee Kings street gang.

They have been indicted on federal racketeering charges.

Although Matos had been identified as a suspect soon after the murder, the soft on crime Foxx said there was insufficient evidence to file murder charges, and federal prosecutors were forced to step in.

From the indictment:

The indictment alleges that the Milwaukee Kings is a criminal organization whose members and associates engaged in narcotics trafficking and committed acts of violence, including murder and assault, to acquire and preserve the gang’s perceived territory on the North Side of Chicago. Members of the gang intimidated rival gang members, victims, and witnesses through acts and threats of violence, boasted about their gang on social media, and took steps designed to prevent law enforcement from detecting their criminal activities, according to the indictment.

Roberson was arrested last month and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was ordered to remain detained in federal custody pending trial. Matos is not in custody and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

The indictment was announced by Morris Pasqual, Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Robert W. “Wes” Wheeler, Jr., Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI, and Larry Snelling, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Prashant Kolluri, Caitlin Walgamuth, and Kirsten Moran.

Family members of Carvajal begged Foxx to file charges in the case, but their pleas fell on deaf ears.

Carvajal’s sister, Jennifer Ramirez, said during a news conference, “We have come here today to demand justice.”

“My brother’s life was taken by a coward. This coward did not know my brother. He did not even speak to my brother. He simply saw an opportunity to kill and shot with no remorse whatsoever.”

“How many more lives need to be taken for the correct action to be made? We are living in a war zone, and no one seems to defend us.”

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:

A police source said they’re frustrated a murder charge was rejected in Carvajal’s killing — the latest grievance in the continuing tension between the police department and state’s attorney’s office.

For months, police Supt. David Brown has pointed a finger at Foxx, saying her office isn’t tough on violent criminals. Foxx has fired back, saying police need to do more to build solid cases against suspected shooters instead of focusing on people who illegally possess firearms.

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn’s Los Angeles Home Burglarized Twice in Few Months, Now Require 24/7 Security

California’s crime wave shows no sign of abating.

According to actress Goldie Hawn, the Los Angeles home she shares with partner Kurt Russell was burglarized twice in the space of a few months.

Speaking on an episode of Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, Hawn said the “terrible” crime wave had forced them to relocate to Palm Desert, more than 100 miles outside of the city they used to live in.

“I walked into my closet and I just lost it,” Hawn said of the first incident. “They had broken in from the balcony to our bedroom, our closets. And they completely knocked down my door, which is a safe door, so they’re very, very sophisticated, and they got a lot of my goodies.”

Hawn then revealed that just four months later, someone tried to enter the property while she was in it.

“I hear this big thump upstairs — and I was alone; Kurt wasn’t there — and I went, ‘What the hell was that?’ she continued. “It was just like, was that a sonic boom? Did somebody jump somewhere? And as it turned out, the next day, we discovered that they were trying to get in my bedroom while I was in the house.”

She then revealed that she had hired 24/7 security to ensure she and her family were kept safe from possible home invasions and other forms of crime.

“I’ve had a guard, especially when I’m alone now,” she explained. “I’m never without a guard. We have a nice relationship with our guard, and you feel good. You feel good.”

Goldie is not the only star targeted by burglars in the Democratic-controlled city where crime is spiralling out of control.

According to TMZ, the homes of King Bach, Corinna Kopf, Farrah Aldjufrie, and Patrick Patterson in Los Angeles have all experienced break-ins over the past sx months.

Harris’ Impact on Biden’s 2024 Chances Under Scrutiny

As President Joe Biden gears up for his 2024 re-election campaign, questions loom large over the impact of Vice President Kamala Harris on his prospects. Concerns are mounting within the Democratic Party regarding Harris’ influence and public perception as Biden’s running mate.

Critics argue that Harris has not established herself as a strong vice president, with low approval ratings and frequent public missteps that undermine her credibility. Some pundits, like those at The Week, have labeled her as “one of the least consequential vice presidents in modern history,” pointing to her incoherent responses and inappropriate laughter during serious discussions. This reputation could be detrimental in a high-stakes election.

Joe will be replaced soon. President Harris. Lol https://t.co/mT72XGVL1o

— Poopdog (@Poopdog24) June 11, 2024

However, replacing Harris could ignite a political firestorm, with accusations of gender and ethnic bias potentially dividing the Democratic base. Despite these risks, some believe that a change might be necessary to bolster Biden’s chances. The concern is that Harris’ perceived weaknesses might be more damaging than the controversy of replacing her.

Historically, attacks on vice presidential candidates have not significantly swayed elections. Yet, the unique dynamics of this election, with Biden’s age being a constant point of contention, might make Harris a more significant factor. Politico reports that Republicans are likely to continue targeting Harris, framing her as a weaker alternative to Biden. This strategy hinges on the notion that Biden, at 81, might not complete a second term, thereby elevating Harris to the presidency.

Fucking pundit says “voters may have trepidation” that Biden may not make it through his second term, so they’d have a problem with Kamala Harris being president because racism. So Katy Tur floats the idea of Biden being replaced as candidate. She is VILE. pic.twitter.com/nP8XXHK1S9

— Scary Larry (@aintscarylarry) June 1, 2024

Within the Democratic ranks, there is palpable anxiety. Major donors and party leaders have expressed concerns about the current trajectory of the Biden-Harris ticket. Fundraising efforts, although substantial, have not quelled these fears. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has urged supporters to rally behind the ticket with greater urgency, emphasizing the critical stakes of the upcoming election.

Supporters of Harris argue that her tenure has been more productive than critics acknowledge. She has played a key role in international diplomacy, addressing migration issues, and pushing for significant domestic policies like voting rights and child tax credits. Her defenders assert that Harris’ role has been undervalued and that she possesses the necessary qualities to step up if needed.

Despite these efforts, Biden’s campaign faces an uphill battle. A significant portion of the Democratic base remains unconvinced of Harris’ ability to lead, should the need arise. Political strategists within the party are divided on the best course of action, with some advocating for a more robust defense of Harris’ record and capabilities.

As the 2024 election approaches, the Biden campaign must navigate these internal conflicts while fending off Republican attacks. The outcome may hinge on their ability to present a united front and effectively communicate the strengths of their leadership team to the American public. The question remains whether Harris will be a liability or an asset in the fight to retain the White House.

FRENCH REVOLUTION: “Republican” Party Leader Barricades Himself in Office as Maréchal and Zemmour Feud over Forming Right Wing Nationalist Campaign

“We need to form a coalition to beat Macron”, Marion Maréchal said on X

Open warfare has erupted between French RINOS and Patriots as France prepares for snap elections after the triumph of the French right in EU elections. The head of the center-right “Republicans” is reported to have barricaded himself in party headquarters after announcing a deal with Marine Le Pen’s “National Rally”, while Le Pen’s niece Marion Maréchal fights with the leader of her  “Reconquest” party, Éric Zemmour.

On Tuesday, Éric Ciotti, head of Nicolas Sarkozy’s former ruling party “Les Republicains” (LR), agreed on a joint list with presidential candidate Marine Le Pen and party leader Jordan Bardella of the right-wing “Rassemblement National” (RN) at secret talks for the parliamentary elections in two weeks.

On Wednesday, the RINO Republican party council voted to expel Ciotti.

Ciotti then barricaded himself in the “Republicans” party headquarters and sent an email to all party members, seeking to rally the party base behind a right-wing “National Union” campaign.

Ciotti refuses to accept his ouster from the party, he said, posting a video of himself in his office on X.

The outcome of the confrontation is uncertain at this time.

Au travail pour la France ! pic.twitter.com/rtOwR4WfkP

— Eric Ciotti (@ECiotti) June 13, 2024

Ciotti called the left-wing alliance the true enemy in the battle over the future of France.

The far-left alliance of Communists, Socialists, and eco-fanatics poses a danger of “anti-Semitism, police hatred, and the flags of foreign contries flying in our parliament,” Ciotti said.

Ciotti flatly rejected cooperating with EU election loser Emmanuel Macron.

RN spokesman Sébastien Chenu said  Ciotti has the support of his base, but is being undermined by Republican party leaders “who have been sabotaging the right for years,” “who are not courageous people,” and “do not want change.”

“I can make a list of LR deputies who had hoped for an agreement with us behind the scenes,” said National Assembly spokesman Sébastien Chenu (RN).

LePen’s niece Marion Maréchal, who was elected to the sham “EU parliament” for the “Reconquête” party on June 9, 2024, also announced a joint campaign with the “National Rally” along with her colleagues Nicolas Bay, Guillaume Peltier, and Laurence Trochu.

However, apparently Maréchal’s announcement was not coordinated with “Reconquête” founder and presidential candidate Éric Zemmour.

Maréchal accused Zemmour of torpedoing the right-wing alliance:

“Éric Zemmour has decided to send as many of his own candidates as possible into the race,” said Maréchal. “That’s a mistake for the National camp.”

Zemmour accused Maréchal of  betraying him and wanting to lead a Reconquête takeover by her aunt’s  “Rassemblement National”.

Maréchal left the party founded by her late grandfather Jean-Marie Le Pen in 2019 and joined Zemmour’s party.

“I have been fighting for a “National Bloc” for 30 years,” Zemmour said, saying he was ready to withdraw Reconquête candidates if an agreement with RN could be reached.

Maréchal denied she was seeking a career in the “Rassemblement National”.

These have undoubtedly been the wildest 72 hours in French politics in my lifetime. Pretty incredible stuff.

Searching for the Truth About the Raid at Mar-a-Lago

Mar-a-Lago/Image: Florida Memory, Wikimedia Commons

This story originally was published by Real Clear Wire

By Julie Kelly
Real Clear Wire

Top officials at the Department of Justice are downplaying recently disclosed documents showing FBI agents were authorized to use deadly force during their 2022 raid of Donald Trump’s Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago.

Responding to Trump’s claim that “Joe Biden was locked & loaded ready to take me out & put my family in danger,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said the bureau was following “standard operating procedure” as it executed a search warrant on Aug. 8, 2022, regarding classified material that the former president was holding at Mar-a-Lago.

While noting that Trump was not present during the raid, Attorney General Merrick Garland dismissed Trump’s claim as “false” and “dangerous.” Garland said the same language was used in a later search warrant seeking classified documents President Biden was storing in various locations.

But critics argue that there was nothing ordinary about the Mar-a-Lago raid, in which more than 30 FBI agents descended on Trump’s Palm Beach estate, potentially creating a dangerous situation with the armed Secret Service agents on site.

“There was zero reason to create an unnecessary, even one in a thousand chance, of a blue-on-blue situation with firearms,” former Secret Service agent and political commentator Dan Bongino said on his podcast. “The FBI, DOJ, and management of the Secret Service effed this up royally.”

Even as the DOJ presents its actions as business as usual, the newly released documents and other public records suggest the department’s actions entered uncharted territory. While the department claims that all citizens must be treated equally, critics note that no former president was ever the subject of an FBI search warrant before Trump.

A recently discovered Department of Defense memo suggests that the federal government may well have had copies of the documents in Trump’s possession, also raising questions about the need for the raid. The content of those documents has not been disclosed but, critics ask, if Trump was not retaining copies of information that threatened national security, what was the need for an armed raid?

Many on the right see the Mar-a-Lago raid as part of a broader effort by the Department of Justice to intimidate its political enemies. They say it is part of a larger pattern that includes the armed morning raid on the home of Trump associate Roger Stone in 2019, the arrest of anti-abortion activist Mark Houck by dozens of armed agents in 2022 a year after he was accused of pushing someone outside a Philadelphia clinic, and the DOJ’s aggressive efforts to find and charge to date more than 1,400 people connected to the Jan. 6 protest at the Capitol.

The recent court disclosures also underscore the very different treatments the department has accorded to Trump and the Biden family.

Trump, who has asserted that his presidential authority empowered him to retain and declassify documents, got a surprise nine-hour raid a few months before announcing his plans to run for reelection.

President Biden, who never had the authority to declassify or take home classified records as a senator or vice president, received the courtesy of at least two consensual FBI searches, presumably unarmed.

IRS whistleblower Joseph Ziegler, who has worked on tax cases involving Biden’s son Hunter, has testified that Hunter Biden’s lawyers were tipped off that investigators had probable cause to search his Northern Virginia storage unit.

Trump’s attorneys are now asking Judge Aileen Cannon, who is presiding over Special Counsel Jack Smith’s espionage and obstruction case against Trump in Florida, to prohibit Smith from using any of the materials seized during the Mar-a-Lago raid at trial. The FBI sought the warrant as part of its attempt to recover classified records, including national defense materials, which Trump supposedly took with him at the end of his presidency.

The FBI’s application for the warrant contained false information, the attorneys argue, and the raid violated even the very broad terms of the warrant. To make their case to the judge, Trump’s team on May 21 filed a copy of the FBI’s plan to execute the warrant, which disclosed details about how agents were instructed to conduct the raid.

The operations order, known as an FD-888, indicated the almost undercover nature of the raid. Agents were advised to wear “unmarked polo or collared shirts” and keep their badges, credentials, and equipment “concealed.”

Agents were also told to be equipped with “Standard Issue Weapons, Ammo, [and] Handcuffs.” One team was told to bring “medium and large sized bolt cutters.” A lock-picking team would be on site to open the doors of guest rooms if Mar-a-Lago staff did not cooperate. (It is unclear why an investigator would have probable cause to believe Trump stored secrets in the guest rooms of the resort area of the estate.)

Another section of the order addressed a possible response if the Secret Service attempted to impede the search or if Trump showed up that day. (Trump, at the time, was residing at his Bedminster, New Jersey, home for the summer.)

“Should FPOTUS [Former President of the United States] arrive at MAL [Mar-a-Lago], FBI [agents] will be prepared to engage with FPOTUS and USSS [U.S. Secret Service] Security Team,” the order read.

In a partially redacted portion of the plan, agents were advised to “engage” with an unidentified Secret Service contact “should USSS provide resistance or interfere with FBI timeline or accesses.”

Dan Bongino faulted the Secret Service for permitting armed police into Mar-a-Lago. “What the hell was the Secret Service management thinking, letting the FBI in there with guns? It was a protected facility.”

The inclusion of the use of deadly force policy in the raid plan prompted widespread outrage among Republicans, including the former president. The House Judiciary Committee has since sent a letter to Garland asking for more records related to the search including communications between the FBI and Secret Service in advance of the raid.

Others insisted the deadly force language was nothing to be alarmed about. After this reporter disclosed that language on May 21, FBI Director Christopher Wray issued a statement late on May 21 to that effect: “The FBI followed standard protocol in this search as we do for all search warrants, which includes a standard policy statement limiting the use of deadly force. No one ordered additional steps to be taken and there was no departure from the norm in this matter.”

Others argue, however, that in the case of an unprecedented raid against a former president and leading contender for the Republican nomination for president at the time, Wray should have considered “additional steps” and a “departure from the norm.”

“This type of event has never happened to a full time Protectee of the USSS,” Charles Butt, an 18-year special agent of the Secret Service now retired, told RealClearInvestigations by email last month. “All of this never should have happened in a reasonable environment.”

In a separate statement, Garland claimed the lethal force language was also used in the search of Joe Biden’s residence in 2022, which resulted in the discovery of several classified files, according to Special Counsel Robert Hur’s final report.

But while Trump faces 40 federal criminal charges and the possibility of years in prison for any conviction, Hur, after finding Biden had willfully retained and shared classified material stretching back to the 1970s, concluded Biden should not be charged as a jury would sympathize with “an elderly man with a poor memory.”

Hur’s report makes no mention of an FBI document related to the consensual searches of Biden’s home. Efforts to reach Hur for confirmation were unsuccessful.

After Garland characterized Trump’s comments about the use of lethal force as “extremely dangerous,” Smith filed a May 24 motion asking Cannon to impose a partial gag order on Trump that essentially would prohibit him from continuing to publicly criticize the FBI in the classified documents case.

Smith said his request is “necessary because of several intentionally false and inflammatory statements recently made by Trump that distort the circumstances under which the Federal Bureau of Investigations planned and executed the search warrant at Mar-a-Lago.” Smith complained that Trump’s comments about the raid “create a grossly misleading impression about the intentions and conduct of federal law enforcement.”

Both sides are set to clash over the gag order and the legality of the raid during a hearing in Cannon’s courtroom later this month.

Contrary to claims the raid followed standard protocols, additional court documents, media reports, and congressional testimony demonstrate the unusual nature of the process.

Prosecutors and investigators disagreed on how to pursue the investigation from the start. According to a 2023 report in the Washington Post, Jay Bratt, who initially led the early stages of the investigation, wanted to obtain a search warrant in early May 2022 – just three months after National Archives officials informed the DOJ they had found papers with classified markings contained in 15 boxes Trump’s team turned over the archives in January 2022. (Bratt is now one of Smith’s lead prosecutors in the matter.)

FBI agents working out of the Washington field office – not the proper jurisdiction of southern Florida where the alleged crimes occurred – pushed back on Bratt’s quick trigger. The agents “viewed a Mar-a-Lago search in May as premature and combative, especially given that it involved raiding the home of a former president,” the Post disclosed.

Bratt settled for a subpoena for more documents. Along with three FBI agents, Bratt personally visited Mar-a-Lago on June 3, 2022, to collect 37 records responsive to the subpoena.

Far from attempting to obstruct the investigation, Trump delayed his planned trip to Bedminster to greet the DOJ team. “Whatever you need, just let us know,” he told them. At one point, according to a court document, Trump overruled his own attorney and allowed Bratt to view the area where dozens of boxes of presidential and personal materials were stored.

Despite Team Trump’s cooperation with the DOJ, Bratt spent the next few months pushing for a search warrant for Mar-a-Lago, but key FBI officials continued to resist. The main resistance came from Steven D’Antuono, head of the Washington FBI field office at the time. D’Antuono repeatedly locked horns with Bratt and George Toscas, deputy assistant attorney general for the National Security Division, whose fingerprints also are on the FISAgate scandal to spy on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

Toscas, in what appears to be a deviation from normal protocol, sent D’Antuono an email on Aug. 2, 2022 instructing him to move forward with getting a judge to approve the warrant. D’Antuono told the House Judiciary Committee in a 2023 interview that he “put his foot down” and continued to argue that the search should be consensual.

“I kind of got, not upset, but it’s like, you’re talking about my agents? Like they’re my agents, not yours,” D’Antuono testified he told Toscas. “They’re mine. I just – we have a different plan for this, my agents. So don’t tell me what my agents – I didn’t say this, but in the back of my mind, I was like, don’t tell me what my agents want to do because my agents tell me [something] completely different.”

But D’Antuono was overruled by Paul Abbate, deputy director of the FBI. And on Aug. 5, 2022, Florida Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart signed the warrant via WhatsApp encrypted chat.

Despite being thwarted by his higher-ups at the FBI, D’Antuono said he wanted to notify Trump’s attorney at the time, Evan Corcoran, before the FBI team arrived at Mar-a-Lago; Bratt refused the request even though D’Antuono said, “We usually go to the attorneys first” prior to executing any search. The FBI’s initial plan also indicated that Trump’s attorney would be notified on Aug. 8 and “request collaboration and assistance.”

But that did not happen. According to the FD-888, 30 agents out of the Washington and Miami FBI field offices arrived at Mar-a-Lago on Aug. 8 at 8:59 a.m. An unidentified individual attempted to contact Corcoran about 15 minutes later, but he was not reached until around 9:40 a.m. as agents were preparing to conduct the search. It is unclear when Corcoran arrived.

In another oddity, the FBI disclosed that a prosecutor for the U.S. attorney’s office in southern Florida was present during the search; prosecutors generally do not participate in raids, as they instead handle charging decisions after evidence is collected as a result of a search. Further, the prosecutor would lose immunity if the search was declared unlawful.

That appears to be a possibility. The warrant allowed agents to search Trump’s office as well as “all storage rooms, and all other rooms or areas within the premises used or available to be used by FPOTUS and his staff and in which boxes or documents could be stored.”

But Trump’s lawyers argue that FBI agents exceeded the scope of the warrant by searching the private suite of former first lady Melania Trump and the couple’s son, Barron, who was 16 at the time.

An FBI photo log demonstrates agents entered and took photographs of items inside both bedrooms. “There was no factual basis for the agents to rummage through rooms not specified in the warrant and, not surprisingly, they seized nothing from these other rooms,” Trump’s attorneys wrote.

Some records related to the search remain under seal, including grand jury testimony of a Secret Service agent. Judge Cannon previously indicated she would allow for the unsealing of grand jury materials if necessary, so more revelations as to how the raid was planned and conducted could be forthcoming.

Documents filed on June 11 add more context to the execution of the raid. It appears the Secret Service point of contact was only informed of the warrant roughly two hours before agents arrived at Mar-a-Lago. Contrary to what the DOJ attempts to portray as a “cooperative” effort between the two law enforcement agencies, FBI agents used a bolt cutter to open the lock of the storage area where boxes were housed rather than wait for a key.

Agents mishandled files from the start; Smith recently admitted the sequence of evidence inside the boxes is not in the original order and that some alleged classified records do not match the cover sheet used as a placeholder to indicate where the classified record was found.

Which leads to this question: Was the unprecedented and potentially dangerous raid of the former president’s home only the beginning of what now appears to be a botched case?

Congressional Pig Book Exposes Billions in Pork Spending

The latest edition of the Congressional Pig Book, published by Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), has revealed a significant increase in earmark spending by U.S. lawmakers. This year’s report highlights $26.1 billion in pork-barrel projects for fiscal year 2024, marking a substantial rise from the previous year.

Earmarks, often referred to as “pork,” are funds allocated by Congress for specific projects, typically benefiting a legislator’s local constituency.

This practice has been criticized for fostering wasteful spending and for being a tool for political favoritism. The report notes that the number of earmarks has surged by 43.9% compared to the previous fiscal year, reflecting a broader trend of increasing earmark allocations.

The 2024 Pig Book emphasizes that a small group of powerful legislators on the House and Senate Appropriations Committees are responsible for a disproportionate share of these earmarks.

For instance, Senate Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Susan Collins (R-Maine) tops the list with 231 earmarks totaling $575.6 million. Other top recipients include Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Angus King (I-Maine), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who collectively received over $2.3 billion in earmarks.

This year’s Pig Book also underscores the lack of transparency in the earmark process. More than one-third of the earmark spending, amounting to $8.2 billion, was approved without any attribution, meaning no specific lawmakers were named as sponsors of these projects. This opaque practice complicates efforts to hold legislators accountable for their spending decisions.

Critics argue that earmarks contribute to government waste and corruption, recalling past scandals that led to a moratorium on earmarks from 2011 to 2021. Despite the moratorium, earmark spending has made a robust comeback, with the current total being the largest since fiscal year 2010.

CAGW President Tom Schatz emphasized that the continued growth in earmark spending highlights the need for a permanent ban to prevent the recurrence of wasteful and corrupt practices in Congress. The report serves as a call to action for fiscal responsibility and transparency in government spending.
