Stop Equating Reagan with Neoconservatism

Stop Equating Reagan with Neoconservatism

It’s disrespectful of the 40th president and simply not true.

Credit: mark reinstein

While they’ve never been successful in actually democratizing a foreign country, neoconservatives have had one major success: convincing the mainstream that Ronald Reagan agreed with them on foreign policy.

On Wednesday, POLITICO continued this myth by declaring that in choosing the “Ukraine skeptic” Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) as his running mate, Donald Trump was accelerating “his party’s rejection of its Reaganite roots.”

“Former President Donald Trump didn’t just select a running mate here—he doused political kerosene on the raging Republican fire over foreign policy,” POLITICO claimed.

“By tapping the 39-year-old Sen. J.D. Vance, one of the party’s leading national security doves, Trump strengthened the hand of the isolationist forces eager to undo the hawkish GOP consensus that has endured since the Reagan era.”

It is true that the neoconservative vision of foreign policy long endured since the Reagan era and had roots in his administration.

It is also true that so many Republican hawks actually hated Reagan for his most important foreign policy achievement and greatest legacy: diplomacy with Russia.

Something Donald Trump now says he will do by reaching out to Vladimir Putin regarding the Ukraine conflict, just as Reagan did with Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev over nuclear proliferation.

For the record, J.D. Vance has also said that negotiating with Russia—as Reagan did—is the best path forward.

So how are Vance or Trump a rejection of the GOP’s “Reaganite roots?”

It depends on whether we’re talking about the real Reagan or not.

Newt Gingrich called Reagan’s meeting with Gorbachev in 1985 “the most dangerous summit for the West since Adolf Hitler met with Neville Chamberlain in 1938 in Munich.”

Ah yes, Munich. Any attempt at diplomacy is always that, to them. When Trump shook hands with Putin in 2018, the Denver Post’s David Goldfischer wailed, “It is now worth comparing Trump’s post-Helsinki celebration of closer relations with Russia, to the similar stance taken by Neville Chamberlain after his 1938 discussions with Adolf Hitler at Munich.”

As early as 1982, Norman Podhoretz described the “Neo-Conservative Anguish” over Reagan’s foreign policy in the New York Times and claimed the president had “shamed himself and the country” with his “craven eagerness” to give away America’s nuclear advantage.

How have hawks been allowed to commandeer Reagan?

This rewriting of the 40th president and his foreign policy record seems to have begun in earnest 28 years ago, when Bill Kristol and Robert Kagan penned “Toward a Reaganite Foreign Policy,” trying to push for a U.S. war with Iraq during the Clinton era that George W. Bush would later deliver.

Judging by his record, Reagan would have not made Bush’s Iraq mistake.

As The American Conservative co-founder Patrick Buchanan said about his old boss in 2004 after Reagan’s death, “Would Ronald Reagan have invaded Iraq? Would he have declared a doctrine of preventive war to keep any rival nation from rising to where it might challenge us? Would he have crusaded for ‘world democratic revolution’?”

“Was Reagan the first neoconservative?” Buchanan asked.

“This claim has been entered in the wake of his death,” he continued. “Yet, it seems bogus, a patent forgery, a fabricated claim to the Reagan legacy, worked up in the same shop where they made the documents proving Saddam was buying up all the yellowcake in Niger.”

David Keene, former American Conservative Union chair and former president of the National Rifle Association, also defended Reagan’s legacy from neocons eager to claim him.

“Reagan resorted to military force far less often than many of those who came before him or who have since occupied the Oval Office,” Keene said. “After the [1983] assault on the Marine barracks in Lebanon, it was questioning the wisdom of U.S. involvement that led Reagan to withdraw our troops rather than dig in. He found no good strategic reason to give our regional enemies inviting U.S. targets.”

“Can one imagine one of today’s neoconservative absolutists backing away from any fight anywhere?” Keene asked.

No, I can’t. They would never.

Ronald Reagan would and did. But I have no doubt this glaring fact won’t prevent mainstream news sources from lazily allowing neoconservatives to hijack his name as they have now for almost 30 years.

Meet One of the Rassemblement National’s New MPs

Meet One of the Rassemblement National’s New MPs

Are politicians like Sophie-Laurence Roy the future of the French right?

“I am French, very French,” Sophie-Laurence Roy avows, as we bound across the hills of northern Burgundy in her sedan. Roy draws on her cigarette, and gestures at the vine-dappled slopes and the rolling prairies. “Look at this, how lucky I am to be here.”

Roy’s technicolor exuberance shines through six days after her election as our district’s new member of Parliament. The victory of the sexagenarian Paris attorney represents a milestone in both her career and that of her party, the Rassemblement National. For the first time in her life, she now holds elective office, and for the first time in its existence, the RN has captured all three constituencies in the department of the Yonne, a stretch of postcard-worthy countryside two hours from the capital.

The populist right’s local hat-trick was one of the few consolation prizes after the French legislative elections. The RN had anticipated that it would govern France, particularly  after the first round of elections, in which the party beat its competitors in more than half of the country’s 577 districts. The RN’s groundswell, however, could not breach the “republican dam”—the party gained a measly 143 deputies in the National Assembly after President Macron’s centrist bloc, Ensemble, and the left’s Nouveau Front Populaire, made common cause to defeat them.

The “republican dam” almost scuttled Roy’s ship. The entire wax museum of local notables sprang to life to oppose her. On the eve of the second round of the election, one grandee after another took the stage in my adopted hometown, Tonnerre, to denounce her. Cedric Clech, Tonnerre’s mayor, intoned his belief “that our city’s greatest asset is its diversity.” Andre Villiers, the incumbent and member of Macron’s party, cautioned that the populist right had coarsened public debate, menaced the country’s free institutions, and imperiled women’s rights. Five minutes later, he ridiculed his opponent as “Mrs. Whatever” and “that blonde lady.” Villiers, around whom the left had coalesced, advised the crowd immigrants from around the world were needed to bring in the local harvest. The district, however, could not trust someone from Paris to bring home the bacon—a principal (and false) line of attack against Roy being she was a Parisian interloper.

The soirée seemed to reproduce all the contradictions of France’s decrepit political class. The general public had not been invited to what had been billed as “a republican assembly.” The floor was open to questions, but few were actually posed, because the audience was composed of local elites. Rather than engage in introspection, the speakers inveighed against “the brown menace” of the ascendant right. But on the night of the second round, Roy edged out Villiers by 395 votes.

Roy seems unfazed by the opposition her candidacy elicited, even as she acknowledges that some of her erstwhile friends among Yonne’s grandees have disavowed her. “I don’t give a damn about them,” she says. “I am here for the voters.”

“Instead of asking what I will do if they won’t work with me, you should ask them what this will mean for them,” she continues. “Half of the people in our district voted for me and the RN.”

The road goes on before us and the calls come in. Roy, elected to Parliament on Sunday, has had her home burglarized on Thursday. “These are only material items,” she says with a shrug after finishing with the insurance agent. “I didn’t put on that jewelry anyway. It made me look old!”

Next comes a ring from a local ally, who asks her about hiring staff for her office. Roy admits that she has no idea how to sort through the dozens of applications that have flooded in, and says that she will rely on the RN party apparatus to help her do so. “I have only been at this for a month. I have to be able to call on the expertise of others.”

Roy spent the four decades of her legal career as a habitué of mergers and acquisitions; flesh-pressing and button-holing are henceforth her lot. For now, she is only equipped with a parliamentary parking pass and a tricolor broach. We pull into Ancy-le-Franc, where an agricultural fair is supposed to occur. The festivities are nowhere to be found, so we return to the town of Tonnerre.

The attorney’s whirlwind campaign began, she recounts, on the night of June 9, when the RN carried the European Union parliament elections and Macron dissolved the National Assembly. She decided to throw her hat in the ring as a candidate for Les Républicains, the center-right heir of Charles de Gaulle’s party. Eric Ciotti, then the president of LR, had concluded an alliance with the RN. In the space of a few days, after a phone conversation with Ciotti, she received the nomination of both parties. When LR’s other leaders revolted against Ciotti, Roy followed him out of the party.

“Eric’s decision was right, courageous,” she argues. “LR had become an extension of Macron. We needed to be part of a real alternative.”

Roy confides that she ran out of a fear that France is in a profound state of malaise. From increases in energy prices driven by the state’s “green” agenda (qualified, in her terms, as “anti-human”); to the rising urban crime tied to immigration; to the plight of local farmers bedeviled by EU rules, she felt that now was her time. Roy also refers to her Christian faith as a motive. “I have been very fortunate in this life. And so I must give back. I am a servant.” Pointing to her crucifix, and alluding to her detractors, she jests: “I have borne this cross for the entire campaign, and I’ll keep on doing so.”

After the RN’s failure to capture a majority in parliament, Roy acknowledges that there is little she can change in the short-term. Nevertheless, she intends to serve as a conduit between just plain folks and the impersonal state institutions that control (and often worsen) their lives. “I am here to listen, and sometimes to watch and alert,” she muses.

We arrive in Tonnerre and sit down at a bistro to have a coffee. From across the street, we eye a cafe notorious for attracting the town’s ne’er-do-wells, layabouts, and drug fiends. Tonnerre was once a prosperous city, but two decades ago, the Thomson consumer electronics factory shuttered. The managers and technicians left; the city’s numbers were saved from collapse by an influx of immigrants pushed out of Paris in a process the French call “social cleansing.” This process has intensified in the run-up to the Paris Olympics. I have lived in Tonnerre off-and-on for the past five years. I came back here this summer to find homeless men strung out on the sidewalk and brawls breaking out on the street.

“You have to be blind not to see that this sort of immigration is a problem,” Roy observes. “I have no problem with immigration as such, but those who come here must respect our ways, our culture, our laws. Something has gone very wrong, and we need to act.”

Roy explicitly dismisses a definition of the French nation as based on race, even as she defends a central idea of the RN’s program: la priorité nationale (national priority), in which certain forms of state aid and services would be reserved for French nationals. “French come in every color; I have a granddaughter who is a dual national,” she posits. “This is not a matter of race, but of what nations owe to their citizens.”

In the course of our interview, the new deputy chats with a few constituents. Mostly, she listens and nods. “I am an attorney,” she explains. “I already do a lot of this with my clients.” Roy’s status as a native daughter helps. She exchanges tips on where to find the best gougère (a sort of cheese-filled popover roll invented in her hometown, Flogny-la-Chapelle) with one woman. Roy endures a 20-minute rant about Tonnerre’s woes from a local harridan. “I am grateful she’s an entrepreneur creating wealth here,” she reasons, brushing off my criticism.

She can be elusive without being evasive. I query her as to the reasons for the RN’s underwhelming performance, advancing my pet theory of why the party lost: that the RN failed to recruit credible and locally-connected candidates in far too many districts. “We need to see about that. I don’t want to just blow smoke,” she replies.

Roy will need all the equanimity and bonhomie she can summon. France’s National Assembly is now inoperable, and Macron will probably call elections at the earliest opportunity possible—in 11 months’ time. She will then again have to face the voters, in a possible rematch against Villiers. Her strategy relies on being accessible: She plans on holding regular town hall meetings and setting up offices in more places than her predecessor—becoming the Yonne’s “Mrs. Pothole.”

As we bid each other goodbye, I invite her to reflect on a phrase from the conservative intellectual Alain Finkielkraut. Finkielkraut, a skeptic of mass migration, has fretted that France is “at once precious and perishable.” She pauses. “We are more durable than you think,” she exclaims. “You’ll see.”

Tulsi Gabbard Absolutely Savages Kamala Harris for Questioning JD Vance’s Loyalty to Our Country (VIDEO)

This week after Donald Trump announced JD Vance as his running mate, Kamala Harris rushed to Twitter/X and said that Vance would be loyal to Trump but not to our country.

Vance served overseas as a United States Marine. No one has any questions about his loyalty to our country.

Harris should apologize for this:

Donald Trump has picked his new running mate: J.D. Vance.

He will be loyal only to Trump, not to our country.

If elected, he will help implement the extreme Project 2025 plan for a second Trump term. We’re not going to let that happen. pic.twitter.com/z4UKczVdbv

Former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard has gone after Harris for this. Big time.

NDTV reports:

Tulsi Gabbard Slams Kamala Harris Over Her Remarks Against JD Vance

Former US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has slammed the US Vice President over her remarks against former US President Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, calling Kamala Harris a “self-serving politician who should not be in office.”

Criticising the US Vice President over her warning to Americans that JD Vance will only be loyal to Trump and not the US, Gabbard said that Kamala Harris is driven by her own political ambition.

Gabbard stated that JD Vance enlisted himself in the Marine Corps after the 9/11 attacks and was deployed to Iraq in 2005. She asked, “Was Kamala Harris willing to put her own life on the line in service to our country at any time in the past?”…

“Someone who deployed to Iraq in 2005, the same year that I was there, during the height of that war, putting his own life on the line in service to our country. Was Kamala Harris willing to put her own life on the line in service to our country at any time in the past? Is she now? No. Kamala Harris is driven by her own political ambition. She’s a self-serving politician who should not be in office,” she added.

Democrat Pollster Doug Schoen on Trump’s Republican National Convention Speech: ‘The Election May Already be Over’

Lots of people in the liberal media tried to trash Donald Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention.

Some said it was too long, others said it was too dark, or too divisive, and on and on.

Democrat pollster Doug Schoen saw a very different speech. In fact, he thinks the election might already be over.

Schoen writes at FOX News:

Trump did something he’s never done before with RNC speech. Now, the election may already be over

Donald Trump may well have sealed the outcome of the 2024 election with a performance on Thursday night in Milwaukee that has largely been unmatched in recent American political history.

The former president eschewed the polarization and division that has marked much of his rhetoric in the past. In his speech officially accepting the Republican Party’s nomination there were only a couple of references to the 2020 election. Trump was able to hit on key messages when speaking about topics like inflation, and especially immigration, in ways that were compelling and arguably responsive to the fundamental concerns of Americans.

I say this not to engage in hyperbole, as I have never been – and am not now – a Trump supporter. But as a political analyst, you have to acknowledge reality. And the reality of this speech was simple: Trump spoke of the American Dream, he spoke of bringing people together, he spoke of helping African-Americans, Hispanics and those who have been left behind.

In short, Trump did something he has virtually never done before: speak to all the American people. As he said, he wanted to speak not to 50 percent but to 100 percent of the American people.

Trump has always spoken to all of the American people, but it’s nice of Schoen to notice.

The people in media who cannot be objective, the ones who suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome, the Joy Reids of the world, will never hear a unifying message no matter what Trump says.

Schoen at least deserves credit for an honest assessment of Trump’s speech.

If Dem analyst Doug Schoen is saying this, perk up your ears and listen. The pink hat & wailer crowd should begin momentarily… keep your earplugs handy.

BREAKING: Democrat Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Has Died at Age 74

CBP Photo by Glenn Fawcett

U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, a long-serving Democrat from Texas, has passed away at the age of 74.

Her family released the following statement:

Today, with incredible grief for our loss yet deep gratitude for the life she shared with us, we announce the passing of United States Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of the 18th Congressional District of Texas.

A fierce champion of the people, she was affectionately and simply known as

“Congresswoman” by her constituents in recognition of her near-ubiquitous presence and service to their daily lives for more than 30 years.

A local, national, and international humanitarian, she was acknowledged worldwide for her courageous fights for racial justice, criminal justice, and human rights, with a special emphasis on women and children.

Her legislative victories impacted millions, from establishing the Juneteenth Federal Holiday to reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act. However, she impacted us most as our beloved wife, sister, mother, and Bebe (grandmother). She will be dearly missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire all who believe in freedom, justice, and democracy. God bless you Congresswoman and God bless the United States of America.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

The Gateway Pundit reported in June that Jackson Lee had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

In a statement released to the public, Jackson Lee wrote:

“My adult life has been defined by my faith in God, my love for humanity and my commitment to public service. As a member of Congress, I’ve been honored to be one of the leaders in the fight for justice and equality for all; especially the disadvantaged and the dispossessed. Today, my fight is more personal, but I will approach it with the same faith and the same courage.

“My doctors have confirmed my diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. I am currently undergoing treatment to battle this disease that impacts tens of thousands of Americans every year.

“I am confident that my doctors have developed the best possible plan to target my specific disease. The road ahead will not be easy, but I stand in faith that God will strengthen me.

“To the constituents of the 18th Congressional District: Serving as your representative in Congress for 30 years is one of my greatest honors. Your hopes and aspirations inspire my efforts on behalf of our community every day. As I pursue my treatments, it is likely that I will be occasionally absent from Congress, but rest assured my office will continue to deliver the vital constituent services that you deserve and expect.

“I am committed to working with our Congressional Leadership including Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the Speaker of House to serve this nation and be present for votes on legislation that is critical for the prosperity and security of the American people. By God’s grace, I will be back at full strength soon.

“Please keep me and my family in your prayers as you have always done. Know that you will remain in mine. As always, God bless you and God bless the United States of America.”

This is a developing story.

NBC News Journo: Resentment Growing Between Biden Team and Obama People, Biden Feels Betrayed (VIDEO)

Carol Lee of NBC News appeared on Morning Joe today and described the nervous breakdown happening in the Democrat party right now over the pressure campaign for Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 race.

Joe Biden and his inner circle are mad as hell at the Obama people and other high ranking Democrats. Joe reportedly feels betrayed and who could blame him? Obama was supposedly his good friend.

This is not going to end well for Democrats no matter what happens.

From NBC News:

Biden left feeling angry and betrayed by top Democratic leaders wavering on his campaign

President Joe Biden feels personally hurt and betrayed by the way so many Democrats, including some of the party’s top leaders, have left him hung out to dry as he faces the biggest crisis of his political career, according to two sources familiar with his thinking.

And privately, many of those leaders have expressed doubts about his path forward.

Former President Barack Obama’s only public comment came the day after Biden’s disastrous debate last month, when he tweeted “Bad debate nights happen“ and talked about his former vice president’s virtues. Privately, however, Obama has concerns.

Another NBC News report:

Biden and the people closest to him have felt burned by efforts to push him out that they see as backhanded and disrespectful. The family is distraught and moving through the stages of anger and grief over how people they perceived to be friends have treated the president.

“There was a much more dignified way to do this if this is what they wanted,” a Biden ally said. “This is no way to treat a public servant who has done a lot for this country.”

Here’s the related video report:

The relationship between the Biden and Obama camps has never been worse, as the Obama camp is actively trying to replace Biden:
“‘We are close to the end. The writing is on the wall.’ Those were the kinds of things that you’re hearing from people who are close to the president.… pic.twitter.com/ZHQ0EtlqUb

Democrats and the media have spent years talking about the importance of ‘our democracy’ and now they’re trying to go around their own primary voters and force Biden to drop out. It’s pretty amazing.

Microsoft Reportedly Lays Off DEI Team with a Brutal Message

DEI is falling out of style.

In the aftermath of George Floyd’s death in police custody, many companies made highly publicized vows about “diversity, equity and inclusion” initiatives filled with all the typical left-wing rhetoric about race, having “conversations” and “doing better.”

Doing better how exactly? Focusing on your customer base and delivering quality service?

No. In 2020, doing better meant emphasizing identity politics in the workplace.

DEI is just a long-winded way of promoting discrimination through hiring initiatives and creating a toxic work culture where employees view each other by their race, ethnicity, gender and national origin. It is the antithesis of individuality and a vehicle for identitarianism.

Four years later, many businesses have realized that focusing on skin color or sex is not the greatest idea.

For example, Microsoft just laid off its entire internal DEI team, according to a Business Insider report on Monday.

“True systems-change work associated with DEI programs everywhere are no longer business critical or smart as they were in 2020,” a leader of the team wrote in an email “sent to thousands of employees,” according to the outlet.

The email said the DEI team was eliminated because of “changing business needs” as of July 1, the report said.

It was unknown how many people had lost their jobs.

In 2020, Microsoft pledged to double the number of black leaders in the company by 2025.

Undoubtedly, shifting focus away from DEI will hamstring those race-based hiring efforts.

Microsoft is not alone.

Bloomberg reported that Zoom laid off its DEI staff in February. Meanwhile, Google and Meta made DEI cuts last year, according to CNBC.

It’s almost as if instituting identity-based hiring practices and promoting division in the workplace aren’t so great for business, no?

Microsoft spokesman Jeff Jones maintained these initiatives are still important to the company — although he dropped the E-for-equity in DEI in a statement to Business Insider.

“Our focus on diversity and inclusion is unwavering and we are holding firm on our expectations, prioritizing accountability, and continuing to focus on this work,” Jones said.

This is essentially corporate babble to dance around the fact that those employees were propaganda officers on whom Microsoft was tired of wasting money, but it would look outright embarrassing to denounce the effort as a whole at this point.

It was hard in 2020 to make the intellectual leap from a black man’s death in Minneapolis to the seemingly overnight push for a narrative infecting every waking moment of life.

If anyone is still wasting money on DEI, the motivation will surely dissipate.

These initiatives do not promote productivity or create profit. They only sow division.

Kari Lake to RNC: This Middle-Aged Mama Bear Will Be a Terror to DC

Arizona GOP Senate candidate Kari Lake focused her remarks at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Tuesday on the need for a major course correction from President Joe Biden’s and the Democrats’ “radical left” policies.

She pledged to be a fierce “mama bear” in Washington, D.C., if elected in that fight, pledging to support Republican nominee’s Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” agenda. Trump has endorsed Lake — a former Phoenix news anchor and 2022 GOP nominee for governor — in the race.

Lake cited Biden’s border and economic and education policies as all being part of the problem, and she said that Rep. Ruben Gallego of Arizona, who is running unopposed as the Democrats’ Senate nominee, has been 100 percent supportive of that agenda by his votes in Congress.

“These guys, they are full of, they’re full of bad ideas. Just last week Ruben Gallego voted to let the millions of people who poured into our country illegally cast a ballot in this upcoming election,” Lake said.

Gallego voted against the SAVE Act, which would have required those registering to vote to show documentary proof of citizenship and required states to remove non-citizens from their existing voter rolls.

Biden opposed the bill, saying in a statement, “It is already illegal for noncitizens to vote in Federal Elections — it is a federal crime punishable by prison and fines.”

Gallego said essentially the same in a post on X and added his concern that “thousands of Native Americans would be disenfranchised.”

Lake argued regarding the Democrat agenda overall, “The great news is that we can solve these problems, and to be honest, we must solve these problems for the sake of our children, because that’s really what this is all about. Right? The next generation. The future of our country.”

“I learned something watching the Nature Channel that the most dangerous place on planet earth is between a mama bear and her baby cubs. And that’s exactly where the radical left have found themselves, and it’s not going to go well for them. Because guess what, they have awoken a sleeping giant,” she added.

“Actually, I can think of one thing more dangerous than a grizzly bear, and it’s a middle-aged fed up mother in Washington, D.C.,” the 54-year-old said.

Lake faces Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb in the state’s July 30 GOP primary, but polling shows her with a large lead.

Additionally, she has closed the gap with Gallego.

According to the political site FiveThirtyEight, polls as recently as May found the Democrat with a 10 to 13 percent lead over Lake. But multiple surveys within the last month show the race a dead heat.

Most recently, an internal poll conducted by J.L. Partners for the Lake campaign has the Republican up by one percentage point, 44 to 43 percent. Nine percent said they are undecided, and 3 percent indicated they will vote for the Green Party candidate in the race.

The poll was conducted from July 10-11 with a sample of 513 likely voters. The margin of error is +/- 4.3 percent.

National Review noted the poll has Trump ahead of Biden 46 to 40 percent, which is consistent with recent public polling in the state.

“The more Arizonans learn about Ruben Gallego’s record of backing open border policies along with every other part of Joe Biden’s disastrous agenda, the farther they will move away from him. Arizonans deserve a real leader in the Senate, not a rubber stamp for the radical left,” Tate Mitchell, a spokesman for Lake’s campaign, told National Review.

“This poll shows the trend in the Arizona Senate race: Kari Lake is leading Ruben Gallego. President Trump is demolishing Biden in Arizona, as the Biden campaign has written off Arizona,” the Lake campaign told NR in a statement.

Control of the Senate overall may come down to the results in Arizona in November.

Democrats currently have a one-seat advantage in the chamber, including four independent senators who caucus with the party.

Republicans are expected to pick up the West Virginia seat currently held by retiring Democrat Joe Manchin, which would bring the breakdown to 50-50 if the party control of the seats otherwise stayed the same.

In addition to Arizona, states where Republicans have a good chance to flip a seat include Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

NEW: Trump Would-Be Assassin Thomas Crooks Flew Drone Over Pennsylvania Fairgrounds, Got Aerial Footage of Rally Layout Shortly Before Trump Took the Stage

Thomas Crooks did not work alone.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump’s would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks flew a drone over the Butler, Pennsylvania fairgrounds and got aerial footage of the layout shortly before Trump took the stage at last Saturday’s rally.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

The Wall Street Journal reported:

The gunman who tried to kill Donald Trump was able to fly a drone and get aerial footage of the western Pennsylvania fairgrounds shortly before the former president was set to speak there, law-enforcement officials briefed on the matter said, further underscoring the stunning security lapses ahead of Trump’s near assassination.

Thomas Matthew Crooks flew the drone on a programmed flight path earlier in the day on July 13 to scour the Butler Farm Show grounds ahead of Trump’s ill-fated rally, the officials said. The predetermined path, the officials added, suggests Crooks flew the drone more than once as he researched and scoped out the event site.

To put this in perspective, Don Jr. said the Secret Service prevents him from flying his own drone off the beach at Mar-a-Lago when his father is inside of the house.

Just to underscore how crazy this all is, I was once prevented flying MY OWN drone off of the beach at Mar-a-Lago by USSS because my father was inside the house…
Now we have one literally scouting his speech!!! https://t.co/M3BAENqT4f

Crooks had two cell phones and used three encrypted accounts overseas to communicate.

The FBI found Crooks’ second cell phone at his home with only 27 contacts, The Daily Mail reported.

Congressman Mike Waltz told Fox News host Jesse Watters that according to an FBI briefing, Crooks had multiple encrypted accounts and said more will come out Monday.

Police found a cell phone and a bomb detonator next to Thomas Matthew Crooks after a Secret Service sniper fatally shot him on a rooftop outside of Trump’s Butler, Pennsylvania rally.

“Channel 11′s Nicole Ford also obtained exclusive photos showing the cell phone and transmitter device found next to Crooks moments after a Secret Service sniper shot and killed him.” WPXI reported.

It was previously reported by The Wall Street Journal and CNN that Crooks had explosives in his Hyundai Sonata which was parked next to the rally.

Details about the explosives are not known.

However, according to CNN, investigators found no online search history of Crooks researching how to assemble homemade explosives.

“It’s unclear how Crooks assembled the explosive devices found in his car. Investigators parsing through his online search history haven’t found any indication of him researching how to make home-made explosives, law enforcement officials said.” – CNN reported.

The so-called ‘security lapses’ and circumstances surrounding the assassination attempt against Trump raise questions about how Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to pull everything off by himself.

Crooks reportedly purchased a 5-foot ladder from Home Depot the morning of the assassination attempt.

How did he know he needed a ladder to access a rooftop with a clear line to President Trump? It is unclear if Crooks used the newly-purchased ladder because the one photographed is larger than the one he bought from Home Depot.

A bullet grazed President Trump’s ear on Saturday during his Pennsylvania rally. One rallygoer was fatally struck in the head. Two other rally attendees were wounded, one critically.

This is the full clip.

1- shots on trump
2- ss returns fire
3- you hear “shooter is down”
4- they stand trump up
5- he asks to get his shoes
6- fist pumps and fight

Truly unreal.

A Secret Service sniper fatally shot Thomas Matthew Crooks after he took several shots at Trump and rallygoers.

The media is trying to paint Crooks as a ‘lone wolf’ and ‘domestic terrorist’ but there is no way he acted alone.
