Just two days after Democrat Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election, drugmaker Pfizer announced its COVID-19 vaccine proved effective in protecting people from the sickness.

Then-President Donald Trump questioned the timing of the announcement, saying, “Pfizer and others even decided to not assess the results of their vaccine, in other words, not come out with the vaccine until just after the election.”

He suggested the delay was payback for Trump’s effort to rein in the cost of medications for elderly patients.

“[It’s] because of what I did with favored nations and these other elements,” he said.

In September 2020, Trump signed an executive order benchmarking the price Americans pay through Medicare for prescription drugs to the cost of those same drugs in other markets outside the U.S.

Trump asserted that the original plan called for the COVID vaccine data to be released in October.

Pfizer’s CEO Albert Bourla, in fact, told NBC’s “Today” at the time that his company would know whether the vaccine worked by the end of October.

If positive news regarding a vaccine had come out before the election, “It probably would have had an impact,” Trump asserted.

His administration had pushed hard through Operation Warp Speed to marshal the resources to enable pharmaceutical companies in their work to develop a vaccine.

The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan is looking into statements allegedly made by former Pfizer scientist Phil Dormitzer, who led the company’s efforts to develop a COVID-19 vaccine.

Dormitzer left Pfizer in 2021 to work for rival GSK.

In late 2024, he told GSK executives that Pfizer delayed announcing the success of its COVID vaccine trials until after the 2020 presidential election, according to “people familiar with the investigation,” the Journal said.

“The scientist disputes that account of what he told colleagues. But prosecutors are taking a closer look at what GSK shared with them, which is potentially politically explosive,” the outlet reported.

“The U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan has interviewed at least two people in connection with the allegation, including a GSK executive who took notes of a conversation with the former Pfizer scientist, according to one of the people familiar with the matter,” the Journal added.

“Prosecutors are planning to interview a third person in coming days, some of the people familiar with the probe said. Pfizer officials haven’t been interviewed.”

In a statement, Dormitzer, 61, told the Journal, “My Pfizer colleagues and I did everything we could to get the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization at the very first possible moment.

“Any other interpretation of my comments about the pace of the vaccine’s development would be incorrect,” the scientist said.

Pfizer also defended the timing of its vaccine announcement, saying it was driven by science and by Food and Drug Administration guidance.

“Pfizer remains ready, willing, and able to explain why any allegation of impropriety is utter nonsense,” the statement said.

The Journal further noted, “The review of the Pfizer vaccine’s effectiveness and safety was performed by an outside panel of independent experts known as a data-safety monitoring committee, which then shared its findings with Pfizer and partner BioNTech. Pfizer filmed and broadcast the moment executives learned the results from Pfizer’s senior scientists, on Nov. 8.”

The DOJ will be looking into all of the competing claims regarding Pfizer’s announcement timing.

Did the company put its hand on the scale of the 2020 election? Time will tell, but it’s shaping up to be yet another instance of Trump being right.

Michelangelo Buonarroti wasn’t a great painter, per his own admission, especially compared to his contemporaries and students, Caravaggio and Raphael. He wanted to be more renowned as a sculptor, which was his first passion, and he is recognized as arguably the greatest ever. He declined to paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling, thrice, fled twice, was caught and brought back twice, and was supposedly punched in the face by Pope Julius II at least once. Visitors are not to make any sound for the duration of their strictly time-limited stay, but there is usually no need for any enforcement; the scale, complexity, and beauty of the enterprise makes the tourist speechless and humble as he walks across the hall, neck straining and head held high, looking up—mortality in presence of divinity. 

It is impossible to describe what a profound experience Sistine Chapel can be, although the experience might affect you differently depending on your philosophical compass. A woman with an American accent muttered next to me while coming out of the hall about the sum of money spent to paint “biblical stories,” a level of pedestrian utilitarianism that, as a historian, I could hardly contemplate. The nine frescoes above and the humanoids within increase in size, a fact some attribute to Michelangelo’s genius for storytelling: from the tiny Creation to the wall covered by the Last Judgment, the greatest fresco ever painted by a muse-inspired human hand. A more prosaic explanation is that he didn’t know what he was originally doing. Story goes that he painted the first panel up close, came down to see that they are barely visible from the floor, and then went on to paint each one a size bigger. 

Michelangelo: The Genesis of the Sistine is currently an exhibit in the Muscarelle Museum of Art, next to the sprawling William and Mary campus in erstwhile British Virginia’s colonial capital, available for general viewing till late May. It carries rarely seen sketches and letters lent from Florence and the Vatican. A portrait of the artist, done by one of his  “unimaginative” students (whom he dismissed) is on display: Michelangelo is wearing a Mediterranean white turban, a sign of the upper-class, meritocratic synthesis of post-Crusade Renaissance Italy. The various experimental sketches of torsos in tension, the first signs of science creeping into art, are there, as are his letters with simple daily discussions about ducats. Even divinely inspired artists are not above mortal needs. 

The replication of the Last Judgement needs more explainer notes for the uninitiated. It is difficult to grasp the importance of that painting without historical grounding; the curators should have perhaps explained a little more about why the Son of God tearing up time and space is so muscular in the middle, or why most of the nudes in the fresco was eventually covered up by students of Michelangelo, or why a flayed, bald Saint Bartholomew (who looks more than a little like the artist himself) holds his own skin in his hand.

One of the curious historical puzzles since the times of Hypatia is whether Athens civilized Jerusalem or Jerusalem stabilized Athens—that is, whether the infusion of Athenian reason and Roman elite sophistication transformed the philosophical bearings of a tribal Middle-Eastern religion spreading through a warlike and hierarchical continent; or a warlike, tribal continent was ultimately stabilized by a revolutionary and egalitarian force, which provided an everlasting and unprecedented opportunity for human flourishing in a land that had been forever cursed to be stifled by hierarchy and conformity. 

I am not qualified to provide a verdict on that debate, although the fact that libertines such as Raphael and Michelangelo were some of Christianity’s greatest painters, immortalized in the walls of the building that has the bones of St Peter buried in its premises, can sway one either way. The irony of our times is that, absent a truly detached and enlightened elites who are also in love with their history, the safeguard of that patrimony is now in the hands of those who perhaps won’t be able to say whether they fall on the side of Athens or Jerusalem when they claim to start a crusade to save “Western” civilization. Michelangelo’s paintings were covered up by the puritanical forces of his era—perhaps something that the Savonarolas of our times should be interested in considering.

Society hit “peak woke” sometime before 2025—but Disney’s new live-action Snow White missed the memo. This remake of the 1937 animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a tribute to inclusivity, girl power, quirky “theater kids”—really anything but the original’s spirit or plot—and audiences are not enchanted.

For those who enjoy a classic princess love story, expect to feel stupid. Lead actress Rachel Zegler considers such plots outdated. In a now-infamous 2022 interview with Extra TV, she slammed the 1937 version, saying, “There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird!” The new film, she bragged, is “really not about the love story at all,” calling the shift “really, really wonderful.” Instead, it’s an “inner journey” about Snow White finding her “true self.”

Even before these comments, Zegler was considered controversial. Critics questioned why an actress of Colombian descent was playing a character famously described as having “skin as white as snow”—a debate reminiscent of that surrounding Halle Bailey’s casting as Ariel in Disney’s 2023 live-action Little Mermaid.

But setting the race debate aside, Zegler’s comments alienated not just nostalgic Disney fans, but also anyone who still appreciates traditional gender roles—a contingent that might actually be growing in the “soft-girl era.” This online movement celebrates ultra-femininity, emotional vulnerability, and self-care, often as a gentle rebellion against hustle culture and hyper-independence—and aligns well with the doe-eyed version of Snow White in the original. In contrast, Disney’s postmodernism downplays the concepts of royalty or hierarchy, emphasizes characters’ “relatability,” and deconstructs traditional patriarchal narrative structures—promoting strong, independent women who don’t need a prince or long-lost father to save them. 

And Snow White’s love interest reflects this shift, too. Gone is the stoic, chivalrous prince. Instead, we get Jonathan: an irreverent peasant who leads a merry band of misfits. He’s less Prince Charming and more Lin-Manual Miranda, the living embodiment of Kyle Gordon’s new song “We Will Never Die.” To top it off, he delivers most of his lines with the smug cadence of millennial catchphrases like “we did a thing.” All he’s missing is an inscribed graphic t-shirt: “I’ll save the princess. But first, coffee.”

Then there’s the music. Where the 1937 Snow White featured unique songs tailored to an operatic soprano (Adriana Caselotti), giving the film a timeless fairytale quality, the 2025 version opts for bland, hyper-produced pop engineered for a Spotify playlist of girl-power anthems. While Zegler does have a beautiful voice, the songs feel like they were born in a corporate focus group. Hollow and generic, they’re the audio equivalent of stock imagery.

And while the film touts its inclusiveness, there’s one glaring omission. Despite casting actors of every race and background—even in roles where they don’t align with the original character descriptions—it declined to cast actual human beings to play the iconic seven dwarfs. Instead, the roles were filled by CGI characters, a move that erased a rare opportunity for actors with dwarfism to land major, visible roles in a blockbuster film.

This decision followed comments from actor Peter Dinklage, who criticized the remake in 2022, calling it a “f***ing backward story about seven dwarves living in a cave together.” But not everyone in the dwarfism community agreed. Dylan Postl, a professional wrestler and actor with dwarfism, pushed back, questioning how the seven dwarfs differed from Dinklage’s role in Elf and writing, “I don’t get why he hates to see other short actors take similar roles, especially in a Disney film that comes with guaranteed success.”

In trying to avoid offense, Disney ended up excluding the very community the original story spotlighted and bowing to Dinklage’s “privilege,” to borrow the woke language of the very people the film hoped to please.

That miscalculation didn’t just cost seven actors a job; it also cost Disney a shot at a cohesive, well-paced film. In response to Dinklage’s criticism, Disney initially scrapped the classic seven dwarves and replaced them with Jonathan’s diverse, ragtag band of forest-dwelling outcasts. But that move provoked backlash, and Disney appeared to pivot once again—hastily re-adding scenes with CGI-rendered dwarves. The result? Two overlapping groups of seven supporting characters, each competing for narrative space. The structure feels lopsided and disjointed, the product of a studio caught between two irreconcilable visions.

Young audiences are unimpressed by all of this. On TikTok, the reaction has been swift and brutal. “Hey so let’s just keep the same plot,” one commenter wrote. “If [Zegler] hated snow white, why did she sign up?” another asked. The box office numbers reflect this antipathy: the $250 million film which was projected to make $50 million during opening weekend fell short by $7 million, drawing lukewarm reviews.

The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs of 1937 will stand the test of time for its operatic grandeur, its timeless depiction of innocence and vulnerability, and its scintillating embrace of gender polarity. But the Snow White of 2025 is millennial-coded to a cringe-inducing degree. Already dated by the time it hit theaters, this movie should have accepted the rise of the soft-girl era. Instead, it will go the way of skinny jeans, side parts, and millennial burger joints.

“Signalgate”—nobody wanted to bite on the visually appealing but cumbersome to pronounce “Sighnalzi”—may sink into the dark waters of political memory without much of a ripple. The president is standing by his man; the Republican-held Congress will be disinclined to go investigating; that’s that. Yet the press circus is continuing unabated, and the midterms and a possible change of ruling party in Congress are not so very far off. We are only a day or two away from the media event being upgraded from a “blunder” to a “distraction.”

The mainstream press has apparently decided that the real question is whether Signal is “secure.” It’s a worthwhile question; I don’t have the technical knowledge to say just how risky it might be, and the reporting on it seems to vary a bit, with hostile journos breaking out various sorts of experts to deplore the idea and administration-friendly journos digging up complimentary accounts of the late, great Joe Biden’s staff using Signal as a matter of course. As an old paranoiac myself (not to mention a practitioner of the dark arts of media), I am prejudiced against putting things in writing that you don’t want your name next to in the papers. It is plausible to me that this was in fact not a display of cutting-edge operational security, as evidenced by the fact that we are talking about this at all.

Yet efforts to lay the blame on other members of the groupchat, whether Hegseth or anyone else, are not particularly persuasive. If the U.S. National Security Advisor communicates with you by a particular channel, it is not unreasonable to assume he has cleared his process with White House counsel; the entire point of the position is to act as the president’s personal emissary and coordinator in the security apparatus. An outlet for which I harbor a soft spot recently said that “isolationists,” particularly those who write for this magazine, are trying to “pin the blame” on Waltz for the flub. Well, I don’t know—he is the one who started the chat and added a hostile journalist. To my admittedly unenlightened thinking, that seems an awful lot like being actually at fault.

The administration and its friendly journos, specifically Waltz-friendly journos, have tried to make flippy-floppy of the fact that what was shared wasn’t technically classified, although the semantic games about what the term “war plan” means seems like a rhetorical loser. (To the civilian public, do you really think a list of planes, times, and stuff to bomb is meaningfully different from a “war plan”?) While this line is worth considering, its force is undercut a bit by the Wall Street Journal report that Israeli intelligence isn’t happy about the way Waltz was splashing around their own humint findings. More importantly, it doesn’t touch the fact that Waltz added a hostile journalist to “bomb yemen chat 1 (extra secret).” 

I have the misfortune of having worked (briefly, unhappily) in the private sector. In that vale of tears, if you mess up badly, you get fired. The punishment is not necessarily proportionate to the damage caused by the mess-up but to what the mess-up indicates about your competence and judgment. Can you say, with a straight face, that adding Jeffrey Goldberg to “bomb yemen chat 1 (extra secret)” in the heat of the moment doesn’t reflect poorly on Waltz’s competence and judgment?

This is worth reiterating. The anti-Waltz line asking why he had a journalist’s number saved to his contacts is unpersuasive (albeit slightly less unpersuasive than Waltz’s own insistence that the contact was mysteriously “sucked in” to his address book). The nature of working in politics is that you build a rolodex full of all sorts of people. The observation that Waltz has never donated to a Trump campaign while having donated relatively lavishly to other, more hawkish candidates is also beside the point, although it might be interesting for other reasons. This is a purely non-ideological matter: Do you want the guy who accidentally added the editor-in-chief of the Atlantic to the secret working group anywhere near your other operations? I have my policy differences with Waltz, as I do with innumerable politicos in this fine land. (Real Russoism has yet to be tried.) I don’t think that’s disqualifying. I think acting like a bozo is disqualifying.

The playbill for the second Trump term touted the image of a leaner, more professional administration without the opera buffa antics of ’17–’21. Much of the chaos of the first term was from the revolving door approach to staffing, so it’s only fair that Don and the gang don’t want to be perceived returning to form, and giving the Atlantic a scalp to boot. But at some point, the distraction—and the mere question of whether Waltz is, in purely practical terms, up to the job—must begin to tip the scale.

Liberal TV host Bill Maher recently revealed that he is going to visit the White House for a dinner where he will meet President Trump. The event was apparently set up by Kid Rock who is a Trump supporter and a friend of Bill Maher.

In a conversation with Chris Cuomo, Maher said that he has no illusions that he is capable of uniting the country but thinks his meeting with Trump will have some potentially symbolic meaning.

He emphasizes the idea of being able to talk to people with whom we may disagree.

After years of criticizing him and his policies, Maher made headlines when he accepted Trump’s invitation for a private dinner at the White House. The liberal comedian spoke about the meeting in an interview with journalist Chris Cuomo.

Cuomo praised the move, saying he is totally in favor of it, but asked Maher about his motivations for doing it in the first place…

Maher praised the idea of such a meeting nonetheless, arguing, “It’s kind of a Nixon-to-China thing.”

“There was nobody who was harder on Trump or more prescient about the fact that he wasn’t going to leave office voluntarily. I have the credentials,” he said. “But they also respect me because I’m honest about the woke train to crazytown, and I don’t shrink from that, and I’ve also lost a lot of fans for that. The woke people have left the building, and I’m willing to make that sacrifice. But it does give you a certain credibility.”

Chairwoman of the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) ) has publicly accused NBC of withholding critical evidence in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

During a recent interview on Fox News, Rep. Luna claimed that an unreleased video, which allegedly depicts Lee Harvey Oswald away from the infamous Texas School Book Depository at the time of Kennedy’s assassination, is in the possession of NBC News.

According to Rep. Luna, this video shows Oswald near JFK’s limousine when the shots were fired in Dallas, a claim that, if verified, would make it physically impossible for him to have been the shooter from the sixth floor of the Depository.

The congresswoman mentioned plans to formally request this footage from NBC, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in this long-standing national mystery.

“I would like to actually tell the American people it was made aware to me this evening that NBC actually has a video that’s never been seen before.

We’re actually going to be sending a letter requesting that from NBC because it allegedly shows Oswald near the vehicle when the assassination took place, which means that he couldn’t have been the shooter.

So again, we’re tracking down all this information. But look, there’s even a CIA document that came out that Mr. Morley pointed out that actually said that the CIA never bought the lone gunman theory.

And so I think the American people had an inclination as to what we are saying, but we never had the hard evidence until now. It’s important to note that in a free and fair society, how could you operate or have an agency operating in the shadows?

Kudos to President Trump, also Director Radcliffe and Tulsi Gabbard for pushing for this transparency. It is going to be generational changing that they’ve done this. We hope to bring forward legislation, too, to ensure that this never happens again for future generations to come.”

Jesse Watters:
“You’re saying NBC has been keeping this tape of Oswald under wraps?”

“Correct. In fact, Director Stone actually told us that he showed this tape, that it was a secondary copy, and that he said that this could blow open the entire JFK investigation.

What I will also tell you, though, Jessie, is he said that NBC has been very, very much so guarding this tape. I believe that that tape belongs to the American people.

We are going to be sending a letter asking for that tape, and I would encourage everyone to ask NBC to release that tape to the public. It’s important not just for our investigations, but so the American people know the truth as to what happened with John F. Kennedy. All right.”

Jesse Watters:
“Well, I think they will release it because I believe the President will probably put it on True Social pretty soon. All right, Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna.”

Shawn Fain, the president of the United Auto Workers Union (UAW) has been very critical of Trump in the past. In fact, as you may remember, Fain went so far as to endorse Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.

He is singing a very different tune now.

In the video below, Fain praises the Trump administration for addressing unfair trade laws, which he says have “destroyed the American working class.”

NPR CEO Katherine Maher got grilled by members of Congress during a DOGE hearing in the House this week. Maher got an earful from Marjorie Taylor Greene and Brandon Gill.

One of the most amazing things about the hearing was that Maher couldn’t seem to remember many of her insanely woke tweets from just the last few years.

She also tweeted about reading a book about reparations, but during the hearing, said that she hadn’t actually read the book.

During the Gutfeld! show on Thursday night, guest panelist Kennedy went after Maher. It was almost as good as her epic insult of The View’s Joy Behar two weeks ago.

Speaking of Maher, Kennedy says:

“She’s a dumb blonde. She is such a basic bitch. She’s like – It’s August 15th, I can’t wait for Pumpkin Spice season. And it’s like, she obviously hates black people, because she has no reading comprehension for these black authors. And she just virtue signals like – Oh my God, I’m so busy and so important but I’m literally taking the day off to read this book about reparations because it’s so important and I’m going to tell you all about it. It’s like, hey how is that book? I have no idea, I never read it. Probably stupid.”

It’s much funnier when you hear Kennedy say it because she uses her face and different voices. Stay with the clip because comedian Joe DeVito gets in a good line at the end, too. Watch:

NY Dem’s Latest Move Is a Blatant Attempt to Ruin Tesla Solely Because of Elon Musk’s Ties to Trump

New York state Sen. Patricia Fahy (D) has introduced legislation that would effectively ban Tesla’s five in-person sales locations in the Empire State.

Why? Because of Elon Musk’s association with the Trump administration.

‘No matter what we do, we’ve got to take this from Elon Musk,’ Fahy said, according to Politico. ‘He’s part of an effort to go backwards.’

Senate Bill S6894, introduced on March 26th, seeks to maintain the number of in-person sales locations at five but ‘provides that certificates issued prior to 1/1/25 shall not be eligible for renewal.’

Former Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo issued those certificates to Tesla through a brokered deal in 2014 that grandfathered them in. At the time, Cuomo hailed the agreement as a means to ensure New York ‘remains a leader in spurring innovative businesses and encouraging zero-emissions vehicle sales.’

Democrats and their constant attacks on Elon Musk and Tesla are sending a very loud message to the rest of the country and it is ultimately going to hurt their party more than Musk or Tesla.
