President Trump Provides Update on Epstein File Release (VIDEO)

During a swearing-in ceremony for Paul Atkins as the new chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, President Donald Trump was asked point-blank about the long-awaited release of documents tied to Jeffrey Epstein.

A reporter asked, “When can we expect the Epstein documents to be released?”

Trump replied, “Which documents?”

“The Epstein files,” the reporter clarified.

President Trump responded calmly but pointedly: “I don’t know. I’ll speak to the attorney general about that. I really don’t know.”

While Trump didn’t give a definitive timeline, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to radical transparency, pointing to the full release of documents related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.—releases that, unlike past administrations, he claims were unredacted and unfiltered.

Trump: “I know that we’ve done the RFK, the Kennedy. Martin Luther King is out there very shortly, so we’ll find out. We’ve really announced we’re doing them in full transparency. When we did JFK, people were saying, “Oh, maybe it wasn’t all”—it was all. People actually went up to the office, and they looked at some things that were not really easily available, and they were amazed that we gave it all. I don’t know if it solved any problems for people; people still have questions one way or the other. But 100% of all of these documents are being delivered.”

Despite Trump’s reassurances, a growing number of conservatives are expressing serious doubts that the Epstein client list will ever see the light of day—especially under the leadership of Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Bondi is now facing backlash from the Republican base for what they view as inaction and distraction. This sentiment is rapidly gaining traction among MAGA supporters who feel Bondi’s public appearances have started to outpace her actual results.

According to Rolling Stone, “Media Matters for America, a nonprofit that tracks right-wing media, found that Bondi has appeared on weekday Fox News programs 11 times from when she took over as attorney general on February 5 through last week — and she’s made at least three more appearances since then. The number doesn’t include weekend appearances or hits on other networks (including Fox Business), and so it only represents a portion of the time she’s spent in front of a camera…”

On February 21, Bondi announces on Fox News that she is actively reviewing Epstein-related documents, stating, “It’s sitting on my desk right now to review.” She confirms this is under President Trump’s directive, alongside reviews of JFK and MLK files.

When asked about major scandals, she responds cautiously, “Not yet.” This marks the initial public promise of transparency regarding the Epstein files.

In a separate interview with conservative host Benny Johnson, Bondi reiterates that Trump’s directive will be followed, hinting at “a lot of documents” but avoiding specifics.

On Feb. 27, the Justice Department releases “The Epstein Files: Phase One,” approximately 200 pages of documents, including flight logs, a redacted contact book, and a victim list.

The release is heavily criticized as a “colossal disappointment” due to extensive redactions and lack of new information. Bondi had hyped the release the previous night on Fox News with Jesse Watters, promising “flight logs, names, and a lot of information.”

Bondi reveals that she learned from a source that the FBI’s Southern District of New York (SDNY) field office is withholding “thousands of pages” of Epstein-related documents.

She wrote to FBI Director Kash Patel demanding the “full and complete” Epstein files by 8:00 AM on February 28, 2025, and ordered an investigation into why her initial request was not fully met.

On March 2, on Fox News’ Life, Liberty & Levin with Mark Levin, Bondi provides an update, claiming she was misled by the FBI, which assured her only 120 pages of Epstein files existed.

On March 4, in an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Bondi announced that the FBI received “thousands of pages” of Epstein documents from the SDNY on February 28, following her deadline.

She assigns Kash Patel to investigate why these were withheld and to prepare a detailed report. Bondi stresses transparency, stating, “America has the right to know,” and notes that the Biden administration previously “sat on these documents.”

She clarifies that redactions will be limited to protecting victims’ identities and grand jury information, promising to release as much as possible.

On March 15, during an interview with Maria Bartiromo, Bondi addresses growing impatience among MAGA supporters over the lack of charges against Epstein’s associates.

She confirms critical information was withheld and vows to uncover the truth, stating, “They can try to hide documents from us, but they can’t. It might take a little longer, but we will find them, and we will release them to the American people.”

On April 8, conservative watchdog Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against the DOJ for allegedly withholding critical records related to Epstein’s clients and associates, citing violations of the Freedom of Information Act.

Colombian Marxist Leader Petro Says His US Visa Has Been Revoked – Goes on a Deranged Rant, Calls Trump ‘Donald Duck’

With the exception of full-on dictators like Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro and Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega, Marxist Colombian President Gustavo Petro is probably the most nefarious leader in today’s Latin America.

Now, Petro, always ready to create waves in the press, is saying that the Trump administration has revoked his visa, so ‘he is no longer able to visit the United States’.

New York Post reported:

“Petro, who earlier this year caved to pressure from President Trump to accept deported migrants, made the claim during a Cabinet meeting in Bogota, as he explained why he couldn’t participate in spring meetings hosted by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington, DC.

‘I can no longer go because I believe they took away my visa’, Petro said.”

So far, there has been no official confirmation from the US government about this claim. A State Department spokesperson declined to comment citing the confidentiality of visa records, and an official with the Embassy in Bogotá said that ‘no formal notification of visa revocation’ had been issued.

The Colombian leader has made a point to antagonize US President Donald J. Trump every step of the way.

Petro professes not to care about a US visa, but his deranged response suggests otherwise: “’I didn’t need to have one, but anyway, I’ve already seen Donald Duck several times, so I’ll go see other things’, the Colombian president added, taking a shot at Trump.”

JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA. ¿Que tipo de presidente es @petrogustavo que va a EE.UU. a ver al Pato Donald?, El “líder mundial” veia al pato Donald.

Petro engages in old 70’s-style rhetoric like ‘I survived torture, and I will resist you. Make me fall, President [Trump], and the Americas and humanity will respond’.

In the middle of the diplomatic spat over accepting illegal migrants returned from the US, Petro took a moment to say that ‘Cocaine is no worse than Whisky’ and added: ‘The business could easily be dismantled if they legalize cocaine in the world. It would be sold like wine.’

Obama Judge Denies Nevada’s Michele Fiore a New Trial — Targeted for Actions During Bundy Ranch Standoff

Guest post by Joe Hoft at JoeHoft.com – republished with permission.

On Monday, an Obama judge dismissed Michele Fiore’s request for a new trial.

Las Vegas Review-Journal reported:

Fiore was found guilty in October of federal wire fraud and conspiracy charges.

Prosecutors said she raised tens of thousands of dollars for a statue of fallen Metropolitan Police Department officer Alyn Beck, but spent the funds on personal expenses such as rent, plastic surgery and her daughter’s wedding.

Her attorneys filed a post-trial motion asking for a new trial, arguing that the testimony of the former judge and councilwoman’s daughter should not have been excluded and that her prior attorney was “ineffective.”

On Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Jennifer Dorsey dismissed the motion.

“The law gives great deference to jury verdicts, so the standard for setting one aside for insufficient evidence is high: the court must find that the evidence, when viewed in the light most favorable to the prosecution, could not have supported the verdict for any rational juror,” the motion said.

“We are extremely disappointed by the order,” Fiore’s attorney Paola Armeni said Sunday. “We truly believe Ms. Fiore did not receive a fair trial is guaranteed to her as well as all of us by the United States Constitution. At this time, we will prepare for sentencing and thereafter Ms. Fiore will exercise her full appellate rights.”

City News Vegas reports on this case as follows:

Michele Fiore, a former Las Vegas city councilwoman, judge, and fierce defender of individual liberty, was recently convicted of wire fraud and conspiracy charges. The mainstream media paints her as a corrupt official who siphoned funds meant for a fallen officer’s memorial. But peel back the layers, and you’ll find a story that stretches far beyond this single case—a tale of a woman targeted by overzealous prosecutors, a trial riddled with fabricated evidence, and a conviction that defies justice. This is Michele Fiore’s fight, and it’s one every patriot should rally behind.

Fiore’s clash with the feds isn’t new. A well-respected figure who’s won numerous elections, she’s long been a natural enemy of Nevada’s Democratic elites. Her unapologetic stands on Second Amendment rights, law enforcement, and limited government have made her a conservative icon—and a lightning rod for the liberal “idiot class,” as she calls it. The latest chapter began with her fundraising for a statue honoring slain Metropolitan Police Department officer Alyn Beck. Prosecutors claim she raised over $70,000 and diverted it for personal use—rent, plastic surgery, her daughter’s wedding. But Fiore fires back: “They created this case, no evidence, no money in my accounts—just what they’re calling circumstantial bullshit!” Her legal team, in a February 10, 2025, motion for a new trial, alleges the financial records were manipulated, witnesses coerced, and exculpatory testimony buried.

The trial, Fiore says, was a farce from the start. Her daughter, Sheena Siegel, was set to testify in her defense, only to have her words struck down on dubious perjury charges—a move her initial attorney, Michael Sanft, labeled “prosecutorial intimidation.” U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey, an Obama appointee, presided over what Fiore calls a rigged game, where every defense was squashed. “They had their verdict ready before I walked in,” she told supporters after her October 2024 guilty verdict. Her current attorneys, Paola Armeni and Gia N. Marina, argue the government twisted a political action committee’s records into a crime, making Fiore a scapegoat for a system that despises her principles.

But the roots of this vendetta run deeper, and they lead straight to Steven Myhre, a former U.S. Attorney and a key figure in what Fiore calls a “corrupt operation” to destroy her. Myhre, once the No. 2 prosecutor in Nevada’s U.S. Attorney’s Office, has a history of his own. In 2014, Chief U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro slammed him for “flagrant misconduct” in the Bundy standoff case, accusing him of illegally hiding evidence that could’ve undermined his prosecution.

Fiore’s political persecution began when she stood up to the federal government during the Bundy Ranch standoff in 2014. As a Nevada State Assemblywoman, she was one of the only elected officials in the state to openly support the Bundy family, calling out the FBI and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for their unconstitutional overreach and heavy-handed militarized tactics.

Later during the trials, she helped exposed prosecutorial misconduct by Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Myhre, who was later sanctioned for withholding exculpatory evidence in the Bundy trials.

Fiore became a target of the federal government’s revenge campaign, leading to enhanced surveillance, IRS investigations, and ultimately, a politically motivated indictment. Her outspoken defense of constitutional rights and her refusal to bow to federal intimidation put her on the FBI’s radar as a political enemy, leading to her unjust classification as a Level II Domestic Terrorist—without any criminal charges related to terrorism.

JFK’s Radical Grandson Accuses Vice President J.D. Vance of ‘Killing the Pope’ in Unhinged Online Rant

Jack Schlossberg—grandson of former President John F. Kennedy—lashed out on social media Monday morning, accusing Vice President J.D. Vance of “killing the pope” just hours after the Vatican announced the death of Pope Francis.

The accusation comes after Pope Francis’s passing, ending his 12-year tenure as head of the Roman Catholic Church.

Vance, a Catholic convert since 2019, had a brief private meeting with the pontiff at Casa Santa Marta on Easter Sunday.

The meeting lasted about 15–17 minutes, during which they exchanged Easter greetings.

It was an honor to meet with Pope Francis, Prime Minister Meloni, and Church officials in Italy this weekend.

— Vice President JD Vance (@VP) April 21, 2025

According to reports, Francis gifted Vance chocolate Easter eggs for his children, a Vatican tie, and rosaries. Vance noted the Pope’s frail health but expressed appreciation for the audience.

The meeting followed an initial rebuff on April 19, when Vance met with Vatican officials instead of Francis, which some interpreted as a snub due to their disagreements, especially on immigration.

Hours after that historic meeting, the world learned that Pope Francis had passed away at the age of 88.

Schlossberg seized on the moment to weaponize the Pope’s death for cheap political points.

The inflammatory and partially facetious post read, “Okay JD killed the pope.”

But Schlossberg wasn’t done.

On Instagram, the far-left heir to the Kennedy doubled down on his smear campaign, posting another inflammatory message with a photo captioned:

“WHAT DID JD DO ? VP OF LITTLE FAITH meets with Pope YESTERDAY, today Pope dies

Pope Francis is an incredible, towering figure who transformed the Catholic Church to be more DIVERSE EQUITABLE AND INCLUSIVE.

his parting gift to us was the fact that he did not like JD VANCE , VP of little Faith, at all”

The internet lit up with coordinated attacks, with hashtags like #JDVanceKilledThePope and #Antichrist pushed by radical left-wing users desperate to smear one of the few outspoken Christian voices left in the White House, according to Deccan Herald.

Another tasteless swipe from the far left, including Jack Schlossberg, who shows just how low the left will go.

Elon Musk to Reduce Time Spent on DOGE Starting May to Refocus on Tesla

In a time when America teeters on the brink of fiscal ruin, one man stands tall against the tide of bureaucratic excess: Elon Musk.

The Tesla CEO and world’s richest man has once again proven his unwavering commitment to the nation by spearheading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a bold initiative to slash waste and fraud in Washington.

During an earnings call Tuesday night with Tesla investors, Musk revealed that starting in May, he will scale back his role in President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative to refocus on Tesla, which saw a sharp dip in quarterly earnings due to radical left attacks.

“Starting probably in [the] next month, May, my time allocation to DOGE will drop significantly,” Musk said.

“I’ll have to continue doing it for, I think, the remainder of the president’s term just to make sure that the waste and fraud doesn’t come roaring back, which we’ll do, if it has the chance.”

“I believe the right thing here is to just fight the waste and fraud and get the country back on the right track and working together with President Trump and his administration, because if the ship of America goes down, we all go down with it, including Tesla and everyone else,” Musk told investors.

Let’s be clear—DOGE has been a success. Under Musk’s leadership, entire agencies have been streamlined, taxpayer dollars have been saved, and wasteful liberal pet projects have been tossed into the dustbin where they belong. That success, however, is exactly what has Democrats panicking.

Below are some of the updates from DOGE team:

Musk’s alignment with conservatives, including his role in DOGE and public support for Donald Trump, has alienated many of Tesla’s traditionally progressive supporters. Polling indicates that 59% of Democrats are now less likely to purchase a Tesla due to Musk’s political activities, according to Politico.

In the first quarter of 2025, Tesla reported a 71% drop in net profit and a 20% decline in automotive revenue. The company’s stock has plummeted by nearly 50% since December.`

Amid the Pentagon Pandemonium, Personnel Is Policy

Amid the Pentagon Pandemonium, Personnel Is Policy

The defense secretary himself seems secure for now—but what comes next?

Credit: SAUL LOEB/AFP via Getty Images

The long knives are out at the Pentagon.

We have in recent days seen the ouster of some of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s top aides, including at least one leading voice for foreign-policy restraint within recent days.

But the real target is clearly Hegseth himself. “If Mr. Hegseth is wise,” the Wall Street Journal editorial board advises, “he’ll use the staff shakeup to hire some loyal grownups who know the building, instead of the self-promoting isolationists he first brought in.”

The end result of the shake-up could be that Hegseth is isolated himself. A Defense News report described a holdover from the former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin as the “only guy standing.” Whether that is an adequate base of support remains to be seen. Semafor reported that Hegseth’s job was safe for now, but “after some of Hegseth’s closest allies were fired for reasons that aren’t yet clear, he’s on an island at the Pentagon.”

Yet the White House has thrown Hegseth a lifeline. “The president stands strongly behind Secretary Pete Hegseth, who is doing a phenomenal job leading the Pentagon,” declared press secretary Karoline Leavitt. “This is what happens when the entire Pentagon is working against you and against the monumental change you are trying to implement.”

President Donald Trump’s support is, and will continue to be, decisive. A major factor that has seen Hegseth through the original Signalgate controversy, its sequel, and the chatter that the Pentagon chief should be fired is that most (though by no means all) of the people gunning for him range from sharp critics to fair-weather friends of the president himself.

Trump does not want to give Democrats, Jeffrey Goldberg of the Atlantic, Never Trumpers, or neoconservatives and neocon-adjacent hawks who will bail from the Trump train the moment there is any kind of deal with Iran, Russia and Ukraine, or elsewhere a scalp that will demoralize the base. This is, for now, an area where Trump will heed his detractors’ ubiquitous advice that appeasement doesn’t work.

It is also the case that “chaos,” one of the main charges against Hegseth, is frequently leveled against Trump himself. Trump can live with more disorder and dysfunction than your average person, though the palace intrigue is down markedly from eight years ago.

Finally, Hegseth’s tenure would be re-litigated at the Senate confirmation hearings for his replacement. Elbridge Colby’s confirmation process to become undersecretary of defense for policy was more difficult than expected, though the final vote on his nomination was not particularly close. Some Democrats voted for him, but would be harder pressed to support a Hegseth successor in the top job.

When Hegseth’s nomination was imperiled, he saved it with a media blitz that used the communications skill that made him Trump’s choice in the first place. Questions about Hegseth’s ability to manage the massive Pentagon bureaucracy remained, leading to Republican defections in the Senate (though all of these came from the GOP senators least supportive of Trump: Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins).

Vice President J.D. Vance’s tie-breaking vote pulled Hegseth across the finish line.

In his first term, Trump largely ignored the adage that personnel was policy. This compromised his ability to make a clean break from George W. Bush’s policies in key areas as promised during the 2016 campaign.

The second time around, this is much less of a problem. There are nevertheless many profound disagreements inside the Trump administration, especially on foreign policy. Those are starting to play out in the public eye as critical decisions are about to be made.

There is also still the question of whether enough Trump loyalists and messengers have the administrative chops to successfully implement dramatic changes in policy. There are some areas where this has clearly improved, others where the jury remains very much out.

It is not entirely clear whether Hegseth’s problems stem more from the ideological warfare inside the Trump administration (much of it over literal warfare) or his own managerial skills.

Policy in the end matters more than personnel, but the Beltway cliche that they are inextricably linked is ultimately true. Personnel is policy, even in Trump 2.0.

So Close, Yet So Far: Jimmy Kimmel Actually Nails 1 Reason Trump’s Winning

Jimmy Kimmel, a late-night host notorious for his seething contempt for President Donald Trump, recently stumbled onto a rare moment of clarity regarding the president.

In a Rolling Stone interview, he accurately and precisely pinpointed a key reason behind Trump’s roaring political success.

Kimmel acknowledged that cancel culture was a key issue that has fueled Trump’s rise.

“I don’t think anybody should be canceled. I really don’t,” he said, even going so far as to admit that liberals attacking comedians over jokes has driven voters to Trump.

As shocking as it is to hear that from Kimmel, it’s almost more shocking to type: He’s not wrong. Rampant cancel culture over the past decade has made people hypersensitive, with jokes — oftentimes meant to offend at least a little — becoming grounds for exile.

Trump, seemingly uncancelable, thrives in this sort of climate.

The backlash against comedians like Dave Chappelle for “offensive” humor has pushed many toward Trump’s unapologetic style. A 2024 Cato Institute study showed 62 percent of Americans fear expressing opinions due to cancellation.

Trump’s resilience against cancellation resonates with those tired of walking on eggshells. His 2024 landslide victory over Kamala Harris proved this, with America rejecting political correctness for raw authenticity.

Kimmel got this part right: The left’s obsession with policing speech has spectacularly backfired. People naturally crave freedom to laugh, speak, and offend without fear of stupidly vindictive retribution.

But here’s where Kimmel veers off. Despite nailing this reason, his Rolling Stone interview reveals he’s still a flaming liberal, clueless about the broader picture.

“Listen, when O.J. was found not guilty, I was just absolutely shocked,” Kimmel said. “I had that same feeling. I had this faith in America that was shaken, and I still am not over it.

“I thought that when it comes down to it, this country, we do the right thing. That’s obviously in the past.”

Kimmel clearly understands part of why Trump won, but his brain/heart/leftism won’t let him accept it.

This quote exposes his disconnect. He sees the symptom — cancel culture — but misses the cure: Americans rejecting progressive overreach for Trump’s no-nonsense approach.

Kimmel’s still stuck in the past, believing America should align with his liberal ideals. He can’t grasp that voters prioritized economic promises and border security over “doing the right thing” by his standards.

Trump’s win wasn’t just about comedy or cancel culture. It was about the rampant, out-of-control inflation of the Joe Biden administration.

Kimmel also ignores Trump’s appeal to working-class voters, his staunch support for protecting the sanctity of women’s sports, and the fact that the president is actually putting Americans first in the face of foes like China.

Unsurprisingly, those are all parts of what built Trump’s winning presidential campaign.

The host’s blind spot is glaring. He rails against cancel culture, but still pushes the left’s narrative, mocking Trump’s policies while ignoring their voter appeal.

Kimmel’s late-night shtick — if you can even call it that at this point — hasn’t evolved. It’s why his ratings aren’t even worth mentioning in comparison to, say, Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld.

His interview shows a man torn: Aware of cancel culture’s role in Trump’s success, yet unable to shed his liberal bias. He’s so close to understanding, yet so far from reality.

Kimmel might decry cancellation, but he’s still part of the elite bubble that fuels it. His peers at ABC canceled shows like “Roseanne” for less, after all.

Trump’s victory proves people want authenticity, not sanctimony. Kimmel’s half-right epiphany can’t mask his broader fundamental misunderstanding of America’s pulse.

If Kimmel really opposes cancellation, he should rethink his own attacks on Trump. Until then, he remains a liberal caricature, and little more.

So close, Jimmy, yet so far. You nailed one reason Trump’s winning — cancel culture’s insanity — but you’re still clueless about the rest.

America’s moved on, even if you haven’t.

Winsome Sears Faces Uphill Battle in Governor Bid

Winsome Sears Faces Uphill Battle in Governor Bid

Virginia is set to elect its first female governor this fall.

After four years of strong conservative governance in Virginia, Republicans in the state are weary of a fall election cycle that could spell trouble for the GOP. Though the Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin enjoys a high approval rate in statewide polling, he is term-capped and will not feature on this November’s gubernatorial ballot.

Virginia voters will instead select between two women when they enter polling stations this fall, a historic first for the state. The former House Rep. Abigail Spanberger is besting the sitting Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears in early polling of the gubernatorial election. Spanberger also holds a considerable fundraising edge, with the former CIA operations manager out raising Earle-Sears by more than $3 million in the first quarter of 2025. Although Spanberger more than doubled the amount of money raised by Earle-Sears in the first three months of the year, Earle-Sears was prohibited from raising money during the 45 day General Assembly session in January and February. Spanberger’s cash-on-hand advantage now sits at more than $7 million, a gap that Earle-Sears will attempt to bridge as the race heats up this spring and summer.

Statewide polling finds Spanberger with a comfortable lead in the spring cycle. The former Congresswoman is ahead by 15 percent in a Roanoke College poll, up by 10 percent in a VCU Wilder School poll, and leading by five percent in a Christopher Newport poll. Earle-Sears is only down one percent in a January poll released by Emerson with 17 percent remaining undecided. Even in the best case scenario, Earle-Sanders appears to have ground to cover as the race heats up.

One hurdle Earle-Sears will have to overcome is a significant shift in the political conditions that paved the way for Youngkin to become the first Republican governor in nearly 10 years. The Covid pandemic was a major factor in that election, and concerns over mandates and educational overreach spurred independent and soft-left voters to the Republican side.

Youngkin heavily benefited from gaffes by the Democrats in the run-up to Election Day. Many Virginia voters were aghast by comments made by Gov. Ralph Northam regarding third-trimester abortions. When discussing “non-viable” fetuses and those with “severe deformities,” Northam appeared to endorse infanticide, stating: “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.” Though his comments were incorrectly quoted and taken out of context online, the damage had been done

On the campaign trail, too, Democrats struggled with messaging. The Democrat gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe argued that parents should have less of a role in what their children are taught in state schools. In an era that was characterized by fights over educational standards that many felt had skewed socially liberal, McAuliffe stated that he was “not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions.” It was a statement that played a key role in Youngkin’s ascent according to polling done by CreativeDirect after the election.

Youngkin emerged as a polished, beltway-friendly businessman who showed a willingness to genuinely hear the qualms of the MAGA right. Virginia, once a deep red political machine, has rapidly shifted to the left in the last two decades and the northern corridor from Fredericksburg to Washington, DC has emerged as the most powerful region in Virginia politics. Youngkin, with his well-pressed suits and his quarter-century background as co-CEO of a private-equity firm, the Carlyle Group, played in a unique way that assuaged the fears of more moderate voters.

Earle-Sears, the gun-toting Marine Corps veteran, could struggle to resonate with that all-important voting bloc as evidenced by early deficits in polling and fundraising. Online, the MAGA right, too, appears concerned about Earle-Sears’s bona fides. Two members of that coalition, the former State Sen. Amanda Chase and the former Virginia Del. Dave LaRock, mounted bids to make the Republican’s primary ballot in July. LaRock failed to make the 10,000 signature quota and, although Chase has vocally claimed she will appear on the primary ballot, the Virginia GOP confirmed via X on Monday that Earle-Sears will be the Republican nominee for governor.

Worse than a split coalition, however, is the undeniable fact that Spanberger is not like her Democrat peers who mucked the 2021 race. Spanberger is unlikely to make any untimely gaffes or earth-shattering statements that nosedive her campaign near the finish line. This is a woman who, through her career as a bureaucrat and a politician, has succeeded in presenting as a smart, affable, diligent character who doesn’t make mistakes. In her favor too, is the chaos currently emanating from Washington. In a state so interlinked with the conditions of DC, President Donald Trump’s decision to wage war with the federal bureaucracy will place Earle-Sears on the back foot as many suburban families in the Acela corridor enter the voting booths.

Earle-Sears will also have to overcome economic concerns as Trump wheels and deals on the tariff front. On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Dow is headed for “its worst April since 1932,” and gold futures, pricing in a weak dollar, have surged to historic highs. Despite his sudden and stunning change of heart on just-announced tariffs for all countries not named China, Trump has done little to tamp down growing fears in the markets, and on Monday called Fed Chair Jerome Powell “a total loser” before demanding Powell lower interest rates.

With Virginia so closely linked to DC, the instability emanating from our nation’s capital will no doubt play a significant role in the gubernatorial election this Fall. It all could spell big trouble for Earle-Sears, who is likely to be on the defensive throughout the campaign despite a strong showing as lieutenant governor in an administration that found broad support among Virginia voters these last four years.
