Trump’s Russia–Ukraine Diplomacy Is Working

Trump’s Russia–Ukraine Diplomacy Is Working

Putin’s Easter ceasefire was short-lived, but a welcome turn of events.

The Russian president Vladimir Putin’s sudden announcement last Saturday of a unilateral Easter truce in Ukraine seems to have opened a new path to peace.

That’s somewhat surprising, considering Putin’s promise initially met extreme skepticism. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky suggested it was a publicity stunt and expressed doubts that Putin would honor the ceasefire. “We know too well how Moscow manipulates, and we are always ready for anything,” Zelensky wrote on social media.

Reactions in the West were much the same. A headline in the Economist called the ceasefire a “gimmick.” Putin, the article claimed, views ceasefires as “opportunities to create perpetual instability.”

Such incredulity and even coldness were to be expected; Kiev and Western nations, after three years of war in Ukraine and decades of escalating tensions with Russia, do not trust Moscow. Nor does Moscow trust Ukraine and the West. Indeed, one of the biggest obstacles to peace is that neither side can be sure the other would abide by an agreement.

Still, the extreme degree of the distrust expressed in response to Putin was illuminating. Evidently, relations between Russia and the collective West have gotten so bad that a proposal to pause the killing for Pascha comes across as a dastardly plot to seize the advantage.

Many Westerners felt their suspicions were vindicated when Kiev accused Moscow of committing thousands of ceasefire violations. Moscow countered that Ukrainian forces had broken the truce more than a thousand times. Putin had insisted that Ukraine reciprocate the military pause and instructed Russian soldiers to repel enemy aggression, so it matters which side initiated the Easter attacks. But without credible third-party observers, it’s unclear which side, if either, to believe. What is clear is that shots were fired between 6 p.m. Saturday and midnight Sunday night, when the ceasefire was supposed to be in effect.

Nevertheless, the Easter truce offered reasons for cautious optimism, or in the case of President Donald Trump, incautious optimism. On Sunday late afternoon U.S. Eastern Time—approaching midnight in Moscow and eastern Ukraine—Trump wrote on social media, “HOPEFULLY RUSSIA AND UKRAINE WILL MAKE A DEAL THIS WEEK.” Had the president deemed the ceasefire a disaster, he would not have raised such high hopes.

And a complete disaster the one-day truce was not. Though only partially observed, it brought a dramatic reduction in hostilities and a cessation of air raid alerts. Leonid Ragozin, a Russian journalist who is critical of Putin, wrote on X that the ceasefire, despite its imperfections, “worked as a test in mutual trust.” In this view, Moscow and Kiev proved to one another a willingness to keep the peace, if haltingly and for only 30 hours.

For Putin, the primary aim was probably to earn some trust in Washington. The timing of the Saturday announcement suggests it came in response to the Trump administration’s intensified push for a peace deal—and its threat to walk away from the peace process if a deal isn’t reached soon.

Last week Friday, one day before Putin’s abrupt declaration, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. would “move on” from negotiations if, “within a matter of days,” a settlement did not seem forthcoming. Rubio’s comments came in Paris after lengthy talks with Ukrainian and European officials.

Later that day, Trump echoed Rubio’s remarks. “Now if, for some reason, one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we’re just going to say, ‘You’re foolish, you’re fools, you’re horrible people,’ and we’re going to just take a pass.”

Given this geopolitical backdrop, Putin’s Easter surprise reveals a desire to keep the White House involved in peace talks. A pro-peace statement, in English, from one of his U.S. envoys reinforced the implicit message. These are good signs for Washington, which surely had been starting to wonder if Putin intended to wait out the Americans and, after Ukraine lost the backing of its superpower patron, intensify Russia’s war effort.

This week brought more diplomatic progress, ostensibly in response to U.S. pressure, with Putin indicating Monday he was open to direct talks between Moscow and Kiev. That night, Zelensky offered to have a “conversation” about stopping attacks on civilian infrastructure. On Tuesday, a Kremlin spokesman said that Zelensky’s proposal made sense to Moscow.

More good news came on Tuesday. The Financial Times reported that Putin had offered, during a meeting earlier this month with the Trump envoy Steve Witkoff, to freeze the invasion along the current battle lines and relinquish the Ukrainian-controlled parts of four provinces that in 2022 Putin claimed to annex.

Putin has at least two good reasons to want U.S. diplomatic efforts to continue: 1) A settlement will be more stable if the Ukrainians consent to it through negotiations, rather than having it forced on them militarily. 2) A Russian rapprochement with the U.S. is in the works, and failure to resolve the Ukraine war could jeopardize the diplomatic project.

Trump thus deserves credit for laying the groundwork for the Easter truce and the more lasting peace it may prefigure. By putting on the table a broader reconciliation with the U.S., the White House gave Russia an incentive to make concessions on Ukraine, despite its upper hand on the battlefield.

Moreover, the ambiguity of Trump’s threat to “take a pass” helped the right signals get sent to the right foreign leaders. Was Trump’s statement a threat to cease diplomacy with Moscow but continue providing Ukraine military assistance? Or was he vowing to also halt the aid and wash his hands of the conflict entirely? No one, including Putin and Zelensky, could be sure, and everyone acted accordingly.

Special credit is also due to Zelensky, who responded wisely to Trump’s Friday threat and Putin’s Saturday declaration. While the Ukrainian leader questioned Putin’s sincerity, he also vowed that, if Russia halted attacks (or if it didn’t), Ukraine would “act in a mirror image.” Additionally, he called on Russia to extend the ceasefire for 30 days in line with a proposal by Trump.

Zelensky has tended to mismanage relations with the Trump administration, as when he appeared last week on CBS’s 60 Minutes—a network and program the U.S. president despises—and said that White House officials had been hoodwinked by “Russian narratives.” But in recent days, Zelensky has acted like a pragmatic statesman willing and able to advance the interests of the country he leads, even when that means giving Putin, whom he loathes, a PR victory.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that the Easter truce will prove a meaningful step toward a permanent settlement. Russia’s advantages in manpower and materiel mean it can win a war of attrition with its smaller neighbor. Last week the White House presented a peace deal, but some sticking points seem to remain, such as Moscow’s ambition to “demilitarize” Ukraine.

But the Kremlin has welcomed White House proposals to keep Kiev out of NATO and recognize Moscow’s 2014 annexation of Crimea, and its concessions regarding the four Ukrainian provinces under dispute suggest a deal is closer than previously thought.

The 30-hour truce is increasingly looking like a significant turn of events, even as deep distrust and the pronounced negativity bias of the Western media ensured it was somehow seen as yet more evidence of Putin’s implacable evil. The truce suggested that a longer ceasefire is possible and Trump’s diplomacy worthwhile, and both Kiev and Moscow have built upon the unexpected progress.

At the very least, it brought an Easter of peace for Ukrainians, and surely we can see the good, and the hope, in that.

Incoming… James O’Keefe to Drop Video of ‘Resistance Inside the Pentagon’

James O’Keefe

The O’Keefe Media Group is getting ready to drop a video exposing resistance inside the Pentagon.

On Tuesday evening James O’Keefe said his team is going to release the new video on Wednesday.

“Detectives came to the home of one of my reporters today to try to intimidate me. More on that soon,” O’Keefe said on X. “Nothing stops.”

“We’re releasing video of resistance inside the Pentagon, tomorrow!” he added.

Nothing stops.

We’re releasing video of resistance inside the Pentagon, tomorrow!

— James O’Keefe (@JamesOKeefeIII) April 23, 2025

James O’Keefe did not drop any additional hints about his upcoming video. However, the new footage comes amid a leaks probe at the Pentagon.

As previously reported, three Hegseth aides placed on leave amid a probe into leaks were officially fired last Friday.

And the leaks keep coming.

Following the terminations, the contents of another Signal group chat with Pete Hegseth were leaked to The Wall Street Journal.

More information on this Signal chat group was leaked to NBC News after Hegseth attacked the leakers while attending the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday.

According to the latest leak, the information Hegseth shared in the Signal chat group came from a top general who leads US Central Command.

Army Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla sent Hegseth the ‘sensitive’ information over secure system. According to the latest leak, Hegseth shared some of the information in the Signal chat group.

Hegseth went on Fox & Friends on Tuesday and attacked the leakers.

“I’m here because President Trump asked me to bring war-fighting back to the Pentagon every single day,” Hegseth said on Fox & Friends on Tuesday.

“If people don’t like it, come after me, no worries. I’m standing here, the warfighters are behind us, our enemies know they’re on notice, our allies know we are behind them, and that in this dangerous world, for the American people, is what it is all about.”

“What was shared over Signal, then and now, however you characterize it, was informal, unclassified coordinations for media coordination, other things. That’s what I’ve said from the beginning,” Hegseth said.

Actor From ‘The Office’ Pushes Back on MSNBC Host When She Blames Trump and Musk for Loss of Trust in Media (VIDEO)

Rainn Wilson, the actor best known for appearing in the comedy series ‘The Office’ recently spoke with MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle and pushed back on her when she tried to blame President Trump and Elon Musk for the loss of trust in media.

Wilson is probably not a Trump supporter himself, but he does make an excellent point about the media and their selective concerns about government.

Ruhle talks about her belief that it’s the media’s job to hold the powerful to account, and Wilson reminds her that the media did not think that way at all when Biden was in office. He is exactly right.

FOX News has details:

“President Trump won and tons of people were shocked or angry or frustrated and they’re tuning out, and at the same time, you have the Elon Musk media machine, because they want you to leave traditional media, they want you to go to X, which is a bastion of misinformation,” Ruhle said during an appearance on Wilson’s “Soul Boom” podcast released on April 17.

“What we need to do is just cover what’s happening in America, right? We have to cover Democrats trying to figure out what their lane is and how they’re going to get back on their feet, and we have to simply cover what this White House is doing.”

However, Wilson suggested there was a lack of interest among left-leaning media to aggressively cover problems during the Biden administration.

“This is where I would push back, when I see this kind of insight and passion being directed at the current administration and the lack of this kind of insight and passion being directed at the previous administration, where again, I’m not talking about you, I’m talking about left-leaning news media organizations were kind of like, ‘La la la la, everything’s fine,’” Wilson told Ruhle in a clip flagged by The Daily Caller.

Here’s the clip, stay with it to the end:

The way the media covered, and covered for, the Biden administration was an educational moment for millions of Americans, including people on the left. Everyone can now see how they operate, depending on who is in power.

CNN’s Scott Jennings Breaks Down the Left’s Anger at Bill Maher for Meeting With Trump: ‘An Attempt to Intimidate People’ (VIDEO)

Some people on the left are very angry with Bill Maher for meeting with President Trump at the White House earlier this month. Maher made it clear that he is not joining the MAGA movement any time soon, but that’s not good enough for them.

Left wing actor Larry David even wrote an insulting piece for the New York Times suggesting that Bill Maher had dinner with Hitler. The piece was as rude to Maher as it was to Trump and his supporters.

Over on CNN, Scott Jennings broke down what this is really all about. The left is trying to send a message to anyone who might take a cue from Maher and try actually talking to Trump and conservatives. They want to make it clear that they will punish anyone who does this.

Partial transcript via the Daily Wire:

“The message of this is not to — because Bill Maher, first of all, I totally agree, he’s totally in the right to do it,” Jennings began, saying that while he certainly disagreed with Maher on a wide range of political issues, he felt the HBO host was right to encourage dialogue with people who have different political views. “I loved his monologue, even thought I disagree with almost everything he believes politically, he ws right to do this and he was right to speak out about it.”

“But this isn’t about that dinner. It’s about the next one,” Jennings continued. “Because this is the modern Left. It’s an attempt always to intimidate people into not ever doing it again. It’s to silence yourselves, or we’ll do it for you. That’s the purpose of this op-ed, so that the next comedian, or the next person on the American left chooses not to speak to Donald Trump.”

“This isn’t — this is all an effort to get people not to do what you just said, which is to talk to each other and our political leaders,” he concluded.

See the clip below:

NEW: Scott Jennings says Larry David’s attack on Bill Maher wasn’t about dinner—it was the modern left threatening the next person into silence.

The left demands ideological purity and will attack anyone who strays from their camp, especially people they perceive as part of their coalition. It’s why they are especially harsh with minorities who are conservative.

SoCal: Jury Convicts Orange County Judge of Second-Degree Murder For Shooting His Wife

On Tuesday afternoon, a Los Angeles jury convicted an Orange County, California, judge of second-degree murder for shooting his wife.

As previously reported, a judge who sat on Orange County Superior Court in Southern California was drunk when shot his wife dead in August 2023, prosecutors said.

Judge Jeffrey Ferguson, 74, was accused of fatally shooting his wife Sheryl during an argument in their Anaheim Hills home on August 3, 2023.

Ferguson previously pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.

The judge’s lawyer says it was an “accidental shooting.”

Orange County Judge Jeffrey Ferguson wife Sheryl

Ferguson and his wife got into an argument at dinner and that’s when he “pointed his finger at his wife in a manner mimicking a firearm,” Orange County Deputy District Attorney Christopher Alex told the Los Angeles court in 2023.

The two continued to argue when they got home and that is when Ferguson retrieved his pistol from his ankle holster and shot his wife Sheryl in the chest one time.

Prosecutors said Ferguson reeked of alcohol when he was arrested by police and told them, “Oh man I can’t believe I did this.”

According to court documents, Ferguson texted his colleague after the shooting, “I just lost it. I just shot my wife. I won’t be in tomorrow. I will be in custody. I’m so sorry.”

Ferguson’s case was moved to Los Angeles because of his professional relationships with judges in Orange County, KABC reported.

Ferguson is facing 40 years in prison after a jury convicted him on Tuesday, KABC reported.

Left Wing Podcaster Explodes on Rahm Emanuel, Claims MAGA is Obsessed With Gender Issues and Trans People (VIDEO)

A left wing podcaster named Jennifer Welch recently spoke to former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who is expected to run for the Democrat nomination in 2028.

At one point, she explodes on Emanuel for not fighting hard enough against Trump and Republicans, claiming that MAGA is obsessed with gender and trans people.

She laughably claims that Kamala Harris campaigned on kitchen table issues like being able to afford a mortgage. This is next-level delusion.

FOX News reports:

Former Democratic mayor Rahm Emanuel faced some heat on the “I’ve Had It” podcast on Tuesday for dismissing transgender issues as a core party value.

The argument began after host Jennifer Welch called on the Democratic Party to fight back more against President Donald Trump’s agenda.

Emanuel, who has been considered a contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, agreed that Democrats need to stand up for their party but added that they needed to remember the issues that matter to people.

He went on to describe how Democrats went “really south” on “family room issues,” but Welch disagreed “one hundred million percent” and attacked him for “selling out” to the “MAGA” narrative.

“The only room we do really well was the bathroom, and that’s the smallest room in the house,” Emanuel remarked.

“That is such bulls—t,” Welch fired back. “That is total bulls–t. That is buying into the right-wing media narrative, and I’m so sick of Democrats like you selling out and saying this. You know who talks about trans people more than anybody? MAGA. MAGA is the most genital obsessed political party I have ever seen.”

There are some people on the left who are simply not operating in reality. Conservatives would rather not even think about gender and trans issues but the left has forced the topic into every aspect of American life.

US Space Force Publishes ‘Warfighting Framework’ To Train and Prepare Leadership and Troops for Establishing Military Dominance in Outer Space

Space Force publishes a framework for warfighting in space.

Space, the final frontier – for military conflict, too! The US Space Force has published a framework for warfighting as it continues to prepare for the realities of combat in Earth’s orbit.

Space.com reported:

“For years, Space Force has been training units to conduct orbital warfare, calling upon American industries to develop new spacecraft and weaponry as well as creating international partnerships to maintain peaceful norms in space. Now, the United States’ newest military branch has an official ‘Space Warfighting’ framework that outlines how Space Force leadership can train and prepare units for a war in space.

The document ‘establishes a common lexicon for counterspace operations’ and lays out a ‘range of responsible offensive and defensive actions Guardians may employ to maintain control of space’ and ensure the success of the U.S. military, according to a Space Force statement accompanying its release.”

The newest military branch is focused on achieving Space Superiority for the US.

The framework describes offensive and defensive operations and focuses on US space superiority, which eventually ‘may involve seeking out and destroying an enemy’s spacecraft’.

The US wants the ability ‘to project military power in space’, protecting satellites or other assets in orbit.

The Space Force works to guarantee Space Dominance for the US.

The US power can alternatively be used ‘to deny an adversary the use of their own spacecraft’.

“The service’s new warfighting framework notes that, unlike warfare in other domains, combat in space will involve highly automated systems that ‘filter or reduce human decision making’ due to the fact that spacecraft operate at high speeds over long distances in orbits that are often crowded with other satellites. ‘Detailed analysis must help us characterize how and when humans interact with these systems’, the report notes.

War in space will actually take place across three different mission areas: orbital warfare that takes place between spacecraft, electromagnetic warfare which aims to control the electromagnetic spectrum (such as radiofrequency jamming), and cyberspace warfare, which involves targeting an adversary’s computer networks.”

There are no set rules for fighting a war in space, so Space Force personnel must ‘understand the principles’ and ‘break the rules to uncover the military genius in space power’.

(VIDEO) Karoline Leavitt Says Mass Deportations are Being Held up by Congressional Funding and Rogue Leftist Judges

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday credited a lack of Congressional funding for immigration enforcement and “rogue district court judges” for the Trump Administration’s inability to follow through on mass deportations.

As of April 1, 2025, over 100,000 individuals had been deported since January 20, 2025. But this is far slower than the rate necessary to deport the tens of millions of illegals in our country right now.

To deport the more than 20 million illegal aliens that Leavitt says entered the U.S. in the last four years, the Trump Administration would need to execute upwards of ten thousand deportations per day.

Leavitt was asked how many illegals are currently in our country and how many the administration actually estimates will be deported.

“We suspect it’s definitely in the millions and perhaps upwards of 20 million people that were allowed into the country illegally by the previous administration,” she told the reporter.

She continued, “The president’s team has made it clear that we need more funding from Congress to do more, we need more ICE agents out on the ground doing this very important work.”

She also slammed district court judges who are trying to stop the Trump Administration’s deportations, saying, “We also need rogue district court judges to stop acting as judicial activists, trying to block the administration from deporting illegal criminals from our nation’s interior.”

As The Gateway Pundit reported, another unelected Biden Judge in Denver, Colorado, granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) blocking the removal of aliens from the district of Colorado. Judge Charlotte Sweeney said aliens facing deportation under the AEA must be given 21 days’ notice before removal.

BREAKING: Biden Judge Bars Trump Admin From Deporting Venezuelan Illegals Under Alien Enemies Act

Leavitt also addressed the potential national security concerns with Chinese nationals on student visas, noting that the Secretary of State reserves the right to revoke visas of students who are “acting in an adversarial way to our foreign policy interests.”

“If they are acting, again, adversarial to our foreign policy interests, their visa can be revoked, and they should be aware of that,” she said.

Watch below:

Reporter: Roughly how many illegal immigrants and aliens do we have in our country, and how many does the administration plan on deporting?

Leavitt: You’d have to ask the Department of Homeland Security for a specific number, but we suspect it’s definitely in the millions and perhaps upwards of 20 million people that were allowed into the country illegally by the previous administration. And the President and his team are focused on deporting as many as we possibly can, and they are moving as quickly as possible. The president’s team has made it clear that we need more funding from Congress to do more, we need more ICE agents out on the ground doing this very important work, and we also need rogue district court judges to stop acting as judicial activists, trying to block the administration from deporting illegal criminals from our nation’s interior. The American public elected the President to do this, and he’s following through with that promise.

Reporter: We have over a quarter million Chinese nationals in our country right now on student visas. Does the Administration believe there is any national security concern when it comes to those over a quarter million Chinese nationals in our country?

Leavitt: Well, as you know, when it comes to foreign visas, the Secretary of State has the right to revoke visas for those who we feel are acting in an adversarial way to our foreign policy interests here in the United States. He has that authority according to the Immigration and Nationality Act. So, I would defer you to the State Department for any individual case, but they are looking at individuals who are given the privilege of being on a visa in our country, and if they are acting, again, adversarial to our foreign policy interests, their visa can be revoked, and they should be aware of that.

Victor Reacts: The Establishment Swamp Monsters Attacking Pete Hegseth Show he is the Man for the Job (VIDEO)

The establishment swamp monsters in D.C. clearly have their sights set on Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Their determination to get rid of him is prime evidence that he is exactly the man for the job.

The Gateway Pundit reported,

Rep. Don Bacon (RINO-NE) is now echoing Democrat talking points by publicly calling for President Trump to fire Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth — all based on a debunked New York Times smear.

Bacon, a former Air Force general who now chairs a cybersecurity subcommittee, launched into a media-friendly tirade Monday, criticizing Hegseth’s qualifications and repeating a since-refuted NYT report that claimed Hegseth used the private Signal app to discuss classified military operations in Yemen with his family.

In response to the recent attacks, the White House says they have Hegseth’s back, the Gateway Pundit reported,

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Monday that President Donald Trump “stands strongly behind” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after a New York Times report citing unnamed sources alleging that he again discussed sensitive information in a Signal group chat.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, the Pentagon has forcefully denied the newspaper’s allegations. Chief Spokesman Sean Parnell called the story “fake news” driven by disgruntled former employees.

“Another day, another old story—back from the dead. The Trump-hating media continues to be obsessed with destroying anyone committed to President Trump’s agenda,” Parnell said in a statement. “This time, the New York Times — and all other Fake News that repeat their garbage — are enthusiastically taking the grievances of disgruntled former employees as the sole sources for their article. They relied only on the words of people who were fired this week and appear to have a motive to sabotage the Secretary and the President’s agenda.”

The paper claimed that Hegseth had included his wife, personal lawyer, and brother in a sensitive chat about the planned strikes in Yemen.

The more that the establishment attacks him the more they prove the point. It has been a long time since America had the right man in this position, and they won’t stop until things are returned to the status quo.
