Who Wants to Balance the Budget?

The deficit is a major problem for the U.S. The biggest obstacle to taming it is the voters.

The deficit is once again a major issue among Republicans, who have just emerged from a brutal battle to pass President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”. The bill, which makes the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent and provides a big funding boost for border security and national defense, was bitterly opposed by Thomas Massie (R-KY) in the House and Rand Paul (R-KY) in the Senate because of its dismal fiscal implications: an estimated $3.3 trillion increase in the national debt over the next decade, according to a report from the Congressional Budget Office.

Widening the hole in the budget at a time when the United States is already running record-high levels of debt is a matter that ought to be of serious concern to the nation, especially given the circumstances. In 2024, the U.S. debt-to-GDP ratio stood at a staggering 123 percent, topping American indebtedness at the height of the Second World War—all without the U.S. being involved in a major war or suffering the effects of a recession. American indebtedness is also not just a problem for future citizens—the cost to service the country’s debt has grown rapidly. In 2024, the U.S. federal government spent $665 billion, 14 percent of the federal budget, on interest payments. That is more than the U.S. spends on any government program except Social Security and Medicare—and it may soon surpass Medicare, whose $700 billion in spending is the second-largest budget item.

Despite the obvious issues with increasing the federal budget deficit and consequently the national debt, neither Republicans nor Democrats show much interest in curbing the unfolding crisis. Most Republicans, even those skeptical of the debt increases, rightly pointed out that passing the Big Beautiful Bill was necessary to provide desperately needed funding for deportations and border enforcement, as well as providing a shot in the arm for American shipbuilding and missile manufacturing, key industries for effectively containing China. Democrats, on the other hand, lambasted the bill not for its budgetary extravagance, but for the only major cost-cutting measure implemented by the GOP, a work-requirement addition for Medicaid that is estimated to save $1 trillion by eliminating some 10 million people from the welfare rolls.

The lack of interest by politicians in curbing the national debt is only rational, given the almost complete lack of interest from voters in fiscal discipline. Much of Trump’s appeal was in his explicit rejection of Paul Ryan–style fiscal conservatism: “I’m not going to touch Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid,” the president has promised repeatedly. Major entitlement reform is no longer on the table from the right, for the simple reason that any major attempt to reduce expenditures on the biggest entitlement programs, the ones Trump has promised not to touch, would be immediately and harshly punished by older voters, who are the largest demographic in the U.S. and the most likely to vote.

The other option to curb the debt would be to raise taxes, something almost equally unpopular with voters and deeply contrary to the most fundamental impulses of both the GOP base and Republican politicians. Tax cuts have been at the center of Trump’s legislative accomplishments both in 2017 and today, and despite a more populist approach towards entitlements Republicans show little inclination towards leaving their tax-cutting sentiments behind and adopting a tax-and-spend policy.

Democrats, who are today no less enthusiastic about government spending, entitlements, and welfare than yesterday, have become more reticent about taxation. Their soak-the-rich rhetoric still plays well to some sections of their base, but as the country polarizes by class and the Democrats increasingly lose blue-collar workers and become the party of the upper-middle section of the country, the political benefits of increasing taxes on the rich have become more and more tenuous. Thus, almost none of the rhetoric the party has deployed against the Big Beautiful Bill was aimed at convincing voters it represents an impending fiscal calamity—there’s no market for it on the left, either.

Thus, Massie and Rand’s ostensibly principled stand in opposition to the bill is essentially performative. There is no “fiscally responsible” option on the table, not from the nefarious betrayal of the MAGA movement or the Republican Party, but because the American public does not want it. Republicans and Democrats alike are acting in accordance with the wishes of their constituents: They want lower taxes, more spending on the things they find important like defense and border security, and no cuts to their government-provided welfare benefits. The only way this is achievable is by blowing an ever-larger hole in the federal budget, and as the consequences are not immediately dire, both congressmen and voters are happy to make the trade. The unhappy question is not “will we solve America’s national debt or not”; it is “will we achieve our political priorities while blowing up the deficit or not.”

This situation is only likely to worsen in years to come. Over half of the federal budget is spent on Social Security and healthcare benefits, which overwhelmingly benefit wealthier, older, retired Americans at the expense of young working people. As America’s fertility rate falls, older Americans outnumber younger ones in an increasing proportion, and wield correspondingly greater political power. Older Americans are also disproportionately likely to vote and contribute to political causes, having both more resources and more time than their younger counterparts. Nor is there an AARP equivalent for young people to lobby Congress to reduce payroll taxes and old-age entitlements.

The out-of-control federal deficit is thus, unfortunately, symptomatic of a deeper and more profound challenge to the American system of government. The idea that democracies fail once the public accustoms itself to voting public largess from the private purse is a venerable one, and an argument that has often been seen as discredited. But there is no question that something along those lines confronts the U.S. today. The Social Security system was never designed for a populace as long-lived as modern Americans, or one with the age-distribution the modern fertility collapse has produced. Any significant reform, however, would be political suicide: Entitlements, once expected, cannot be easily or even peacefully revoked. Political grandstanding, like that of Massie and Rand, is no solution.

What a solution might look like, if there is one, is unclear: Japan, which has suffered from a very similar problem for decades longer than the U.S., is no further towards remedying the issue than America.

Until such a solution presents itself, Republicans have decided that, if we as a country are going to spend ourselves into bankruptcy, we might as well get deportations out of it.

Actor in New Woke ‘Superman’ Movie Says if You Don’t Like Pro-Immigrant Message ‘You’re Not an American’ (VIDEO)

The people behind the new ‘Superman’ movie seem determined to turn it into the new Snow White.

Rather than just embracing the iconic and ultra-American character, they have embraced a woke, pro-immigrant political message and when asked about it, they continue doubling down.

Director James Gunn recently remarked on this, via the IMDB:

James Gunn Says ‘Superman’ Is About an ‘Immigrant That Came From Other Places’ and How We’ve ‘Lost’ the Value of ‘Basic Human Kindness’: ‘Yes, It’s About Politics’

James Gunn is opening up about what “Superman” is really about.

In his Sunday profile with The Times of London, the DC Studios head went deep on the themes and ideas that drive his highly anticipated “Superman.” He explained that the superhero epic encompasses “the story of America,” and at a basic level, is about a man searching for a better life away from his original home.

“I mean, ‘Superman’ is the story of America,” Gunn explained. “An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost.”

Sean Gunn, the director’s brother, who is also an actor in the film, was asked about this at the Hollywood opening and after confirming this messaging, said that if you don’t embrace this point of view, you’re not an American. Watch:

According to Breitbart News, the early reviews are not good:

Review Calls James Gunn’s Woke ‘Superman’ ‘Terrible,’ ‘Superficial,’ ‘Overstuffed’

The producers of James Gunn’s latest theatrical version of Superman asked reviewers not to release their thoughts on the film until Tuesday, but several outlets ignored the demand and posted their reviews early. And some don’t bode well for the film.

Popular website The Daily Beast, for instance released a damning piece entitled, The Terrible New ‘Superman’ Movie Is the Final Nail in the Grave for the Superhero Genre, before pulling it down not long after it went live.

The Beast’s review, by writer Nick Schager, tears the film to pieces, calling it “superficial,” “overstuffed,” and even “silly.”

Either way, people are getting the message from the filmmakers, loud and clear.

Will they be surprised if this movie bombs? They certainly shouldn’t be.

Jessica Tarlov Shredded by Co-Hosts on ‘The Five’ for Suggesting ICE Detainees Are Being Sexually Abused by Federal Workers (VIDEO)

Today on the popular FOX News panel show, The Five, liberal host Jessica Tarlov suggested that people being held in ICE detention centers are reporting sexual abuse by the workers at these facilities.

Co-host Greg Gutfeld actually jumped in to clarify her remarks, seemingly in disbelief that she would make such a claim. Jesse Watters then proceeded to shred Tarlov’s remarks.

Here’s a partial transcript:

Jessica Tarlov: There was a story about a San Antonio area ICE detention center, a huge spike in 911 calls from people who have been detained there, reporting increased suicide attempts and sexual abuse. What is going on with this immigration policy is not what people showed up on November 5th for. I know there are some people out there, there are pictures of those grannies that had those signs that say ‘mass deportation now’ but that’s…

Greg Gutfeld: Wait, what about… You bring up something as charged as sexual abuse. Who is causing the sexual abuse? Is it the people that run… So the people running the detention center are raping the detainees?

Jessica Tarlov: You’ve never heard of that happening?

Greg Gutfeld: So that’s… I want to be clear that that’s what you’re alluding to…

Jessica Tarlov: That’s what the report says…

Greg Gutfeld: So the people running the detainee center are sexually abusing…

Jessica Tarlov: I don’t have video of what was happening, I just know that they are seeing an increased amount of 911 calls saying that people…

At this point, Jesse Watters jumps in and reminds Jessica that the Biden administration was responsible for losing track of hundreds of thousands of children brought into the United States who may be getting sex trafficked right now and that her side said nothing about this.

Watch the whole exchange below:

It’s just stunning that Jessica Tarlov would say something like this on the air. Gutfeld’s reaction of disbelief was entirely appropriate.

San Antonio City Council Candidate Calls For the Killing of ICE Agents – and the DHS is Already Tracking Him Down!… “We’ll See You Soon”

A San Antonio City Council candidate called for the killing of ICE agents on Monday evening and the DHS is already tracking him down.

Federal agents descended on MacArthur Park in the sanctuary city of Los Angeles on Monday to conduct an immigration raid.

Karen Bass bullied her way in and demanded the raid stop.

WATCH:

Mayor Bass demanded to speak to the person in charge, however, the border patrol chief hit back hard and told Bass to pound sand.

“I don’t work for Karen Bass. Better get used to us now, cause this is going to be normal very soon. We will go anywhere, anytime we want in Los Angeles,” Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino told Fox News reporter Bill Melugin.

Later Monday, an X account allegedly belonging to San Antonio City Council candidate and UTSA student Matthew Gauna, called for ICE agents to be killed in response to Bill Melugin’s tweet.

“And they will get shot by the Los Angeles public. I wanna see a few dead ICE agents Los Angeles! Don’t let me down,” the Matthew Gauna X account said.

President Trump Says U.S. to Send More Weapons to Ukraine Just Days After Pentagon Warned of Depleted Stockpiles

In a whiplash reversal that has infuriated America-First conservatives, President Donald Trump now says the United States “has to” ship still more arms, missiles, and ammo to Ukraine — just days after the Pentagon froze deliveries because our own stockpiles are running dry.

Less than a week ago, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth halted Patriot interceptors, artillery shells, and precision missiles, citing “dangerously low” U.S. inventories.

The Trump Administration is withholding shipments promised by the Biden Regime after the Pentagon’s policy chief Elbridge Colby found the US’s stockpiles of munitions and air defense missiles are dangerously low.

Last September, the Biden Regime announced an eye-watering $8 billion in military aid for Ukraine during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington.

Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Congress has approved nearly $175 billion in aid and military assistance for Ukraine.

“Biden emptied out our whole country giving them weapons, and we have to make sure that we have enough for ourselves’, the president argued. ‘We’ve given so many weapons, but we are giving weapons, and we’re working with them and trying to help them,” Trump said.

Yet on Monday night, seated beside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump declared that Ukraine is being hit “very hard” and must receive more “defensive weapons.”

“We’re going to send some more weapons. We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves. They’re getting hit very hard now,” Trump told reporters.

“Defensive weapons, primarily, but they’re getting hit very, very hard. So many people are dying in that mess,” he added.

WATCH:

The Gateway Pundit reported last week that President Trump spoke Thursday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but we now know his reaction: he very honestly said that he ‘didn’t make any progress with him [Putin]’ on the peace process in Ukraine.

“’It was a pretty long call. We talked about a lot of things, including Iran… ‘We also talked about the war with Ukraine, and I’m not happy about that … I didn’t make any progress with him today at all’.”

HERE IT IS: Former CIA Officer Says Deep State “Probably Destroyed” Epstein Files Long Ago (VIDEO)

A former CIA officer told Fox News host Jesse Watters on Monday evening that the Deep State “probably destroyed” the Epstein files long ago.

The FBI released a 2-page memo on Sunday concluding Jeffrey Epstein did not have a “client list” that he used for blackmail. The FBI also determined that Epstein did commit suicide in August 2019.

The FBI memo says there is no evidence that Epstein blackmailed powerful political figures.

“This systematic review revealed no incriminating “client list.” There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions. We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties,” the memo stated.

“After a thorough investigation, FBI investigators concluded that Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City on August 10, 2019. This conclusion is consistent with previous findings, including the August 19, 2019 autopsy findings of the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the November 2019 position of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York in connection with the investigation of federal correctional officers responsible for guarding Epstein, and the June 2023 conclusions of DOJ’s Office of the Inspector General,” the memo stated.

New theories swirled after it appeared one minute was missing from the newly released Epstein surveillance video:

Additionally, the memo suggests that no further Epstein records will be released.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino took a lot of heat after the FBI released its memo concluding there were no ‘Epstein files’ and that he committed suicide.

However, former CIA officer John Kiriakou appeared on Fox News on Monday evening and told Jesse Watters that the Epstein files were likely destroyed before Kash Patel and Bongino got to the FBI.

“I’m not blaming the FBI director Kash Patel or the Deputy Director Dan Bongino,” John Kirakou said.

“I think that that layer beneath them, that’s part of what we like to call the Deep State, has taken this bull by the horns, and they’ve probably destroyed information,” he said.

Politico Deeply Disappointed That Democrats Are ‘Retreating’ on Climate Change – Especially in California

Newsom address to California amid LA riots

The liberal outlet Politico is deeply disappointed that Democrats seem to be ‘retreating’ on the issue of climate change, especially in deep blue California.

This completely ignores the fact that over the last six months, we have seen leftists set electric vehicles and dealerships on fire, not to mention the car fires in the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles. Politico realizes that people saw these things happen, don’t they?

How can anyone take the left seriously on their pet issue of climate change ever again? Their concerns obviously go right out the window the moment they want to start burning cars to make a political point.

From Politico:

Democrats retreat on climate: ‘It’s one of the more disappointing turnabouts’

SACRAMENTO, California — Donald Trump is coming for California’s signature climate policies — and so is California.

Stung by the party’s sweeping losses in November and desperate to win back working-class voters, the Democratic Party is in retreat on climate change. Nowhere is that retrenchment more jarring than in the nation’s most populous state, a longtime bastion of progressive politics on the environment.

In the past two weeks alone, California Democrats have retrenched on environmental reviews for construction projects, a cap on oil industry profits and clean fuel mandates. Elected officials are warning that ambitious laws and mandates are driving up the state’s onerous cost of living, echoing longstanding Republican arguments and frustrating some allies who say Democrats are capitulating to political pressure.

“California was the vocal climate leader during the first Trump administration,” said Chris Chavez, deputy policy director for the Coalition for Clean Air. “It’s questionable whether or not that leadership is still there.”

Here are some Twitter/X reactions:

If Democrats really believe in climate change, maybe they should ask their supporters to stop lighting things on fire. Just a thought.

JUST IN: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize, Presents Him with Letter of Nomination (VIDEO)

Benjamin Netanyahu presents President Trump with Nobel Peace Prize nomination letter

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday during a dinner meeting with President Trump that he is nominating the President for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Netanyahu made his third appearance at the White House —the most of any foreign leader—on Monday to have dinner and meet with the President to discuss the situation in Gaza.

During their dinner, the Prime Minister presented President Trump with his letter to the Nobel Prize Committee, officially nominating Trump for the Peace Prize.

“He’s forging peace as we speak, in one country and one region after the other,” Netanyahu said.

WATCH:

Netanyahu: He forged the Abraham Accords. He’s forging peace as we speak, in one country and one region after the other. So, I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize Committee. It’s nominating you for the Peace Prize, which is well deserved, and you should get it.

Trump: Thank you very much. This, I didn’t know. Wow. Thank you very much. Coming from you, in particular, this is very meaningful.

This comes after the President was nominated by Pakistan for the Nobel Prize, citing the President’s “diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis.”

Government of Pakistan Formally Recommends President Donald Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize

Shortly after the announcement from Pakistan, the President announced that he secured peace in the decades-long conflict between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda, marking another significant milestone in the President’s record of world peace. However, as President Trump noted, he won’t get the credit he’s due for this or his many other historic peace agreements.

“I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for this, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between India and Pakistan, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between Serbia and Kosovo, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping Peace between Egypt and Ethiopia (A massive Ethiopian built dam, stupidly financed by the United States of America, substantially reduces the water flowing into The Nile River), and I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for doing the Abraham Accords in the Middle East which, if all goes well, will be loaded to the brim with additional Countries signing on, and will unify the Middle East for the first time in ‘The Ages!'” the President said last month.

“No, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do, including Russia/Ukraine, and Israel/Iran, whatever those outcomes may be, but the people know, and that’s all that matters to me!”

NEW: Magistrate Judge Says Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan Is NOT Entitled to Claim Judicial Immunity to Dismiss Federal Criminal Charges

A federal magistrate judge on Monday said Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan is not entitled to dismiss her federal case on a judicial immunity claim.

“Dugan moves to dismiss the indictment under Fed. R. Crim. P. 12(b) on the grounds that she, as a judge, is immune from criminal prosecution for judicial acts, that her prosecution violates the limits of federal power under the Tenth Amendment, and that the indictment could be dismissed under the canon of constitutional avoidance,” magistrate judge Nancy Joseph wrote.

“For the reasons explained below, I recommend that Dugan’s motion to dismiss be denied,” the judge said.

In May, Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan moved to dismiss the case against her one day after a federal grand jury indicted her on two counts for obstructing an ICE arrest this Spring.

In April, a federal grand jury indicted Milwaukee County judge Hannah Dugan for helping an illegal alien evade ICE agents.

Dugan is facing up to six years in prison and $350,000 in fines.

According to the FBI, Dugan became angry when she found out that ICE agents were waiting outside of her courtroom last week to arrest Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an illegal alien involved in a domestic abuse case she was overseeing. She allegedly directed Flores-Ruiz to exit the courthouse through a private jury door to evade arrest.

FBI Director Kash Patel said Judge Dugan “intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested at her courthouse.”

The shocking criminal complaint detailed Judge Dugan’s actions to intimidate federal agents and how she helped the illegal alien evade arrest.

Judge Dugan learned of ICE’s presence and angrily confronted the arrest team of ICE agents.

The video shows Hannah Dugan in her robes walking through the courthouse halls and confronting ICE agents dressed in plain clothes.

Later on, the illegal alien, Flores-Ruiz, and his lawyer are seen sneaking out the “jury door” so he could evade arrest.

Federal agents were then seen running into the street and chasing Flores-Ruiz before apprehending him. Judge Dugan put the agents in danger.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls Out U.S. Leaders

Marjorie Taylor Greene: Hey, we all live in this house. It’s called the United States of America. This is our house.
And if we’re giving our full allegiance to another foreign country that doesn’t pay our taxes, that won’t pay our debt, that didn’t come to defend our southern border when it was being invaded for four years straight…

When their Prime Minister, Netanyahu, was the first to congratulate Joe Biden on becoming President of the United States — he was the first foreign leader to do so.
