North Korea launched roughly 10 ballistic missiles on Saturday, escalating tensions in the region as the United States and South Korea continued joint military drills designed to deter exactly this kind of communist aggression.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missiles were fired from the Sunan area near Pyongyang at about 1:20 p.m. local time and flew roughly 350 kilometers before splashing into the sea off the North’s east coast, Reuters reported.

Japanese officials said the projectiles did not land inside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

RTL Today reported:

Pyongyang recently dashed hopes of a diplomatic thaw with Seoul, Washington’s security ally, describing its latest peace efforts as a “clumsy, deceptive farce”.

Seoul’s military detected “around ten ballistic missiles launched from the Sunan area in North Korea toward the East Sea at around 1:20pm (0420 GMT),” JCS said in a statement, referring to South Korea’s name for the body of water.

The missiles flew a distance of around 350 kilometres, they said adding that South Korean and US authorities are analysing their exact specifications.

The South Korean military is ready to “respond overwhelmingly to any provocation,” JCS added.

Japan’s defence ministry also confirmed North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles that reached a maximum altitude of about 80 kilometres and fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone near the Korean Peninsula’s east coast.

[…]

“Global attention is currently focused on the war in the Middle East and North Korea has historically carried out military provocations when it wants to draw attention to its presence,” Hong Sung-pyo, a senior researcher at the Korea Institute for Military Affairs, told AFP.

“And that motive likely underlies this launch as well,” he added.

The launch came as U.S. and South Korean forces carried out the annual Freedom Shield exercises, which both allies have repeatedly described as defensive readiness drills.

Of course, the Kim regime predictably lashed out, once again portraying lawful allied defense cooperation as some kind of “provocation” while it continues violating U.N. sanctions and threatening its neighbors with missile barrages.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s Lawyer Says She Is Still Seeking a Trump Pardon, as the Epstein’s Accomplice Serves Her 20-Year Sex-Trafficking Sentence

Sentenced to 20 years in prison, Maxwell is seeking a presidential pardon.

Gmax is still looking for a pardon.

While all around the world the ‘Epstein files’ are causing ripples that affected the life of the rich and powerful, causing from reputational harm to criminal prosecutions, one woman continues to serve her sentence and dream of a pardon.

Jeffrey Epstein’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted of sex-trafficking and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

But after she collaborated with the DOJ by giving two days of testimony, she was transferred from the hard FCI Tallahassee in Florida to a ‘Club-Fed’ Camp Bryan in Texas.

But she wants more.

She has been trying to overturn her conviction and sentence by filing various appeals, and she is also still seeking a pardon from President Donald J. Trump, according to her lawyer.

Politico reported:

“The remarks from Maxwell’s lawyer, David Oscar Markus, came during an on-stage conversation at an American Bar Association conference with Barry Pollack, the attorney for another high-profile defendant, deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

During a discussion about their media strategy in which Markus derided reporting about Maxwell’s prison transfer to what some outlets have described as a ‘country club’-like prison facility, Pollack suggested one goal in talking to reporters might be to alter the public perception of a defendant in hopes of leniency from the president.

‘I can imagine, for example, maybe you’re hoping — not in that case, but in a case — to get a presidential pardon or commutation’, Pollack said, at which point Markus interjected with a smirk to say, ‘that case, too’.”

18-Year-Old Illegal Alien Student Charged with Assault and Battery After Groping Over a Dozen Girls “In Between Their Legs” at High School in Virginia

FCPS student arrested in Fairfax County, Virginia, on multiple assault charges, featured in news report image.

Parents are outraged after an 18-year-old illegal alien groped over a dozen girls “in between their legs” at a high school in Fairfax County, Virginia.

The alien, identified as Israel Flores Ortiz, is turning 19 soon and is only in the 11th grade.

Why have authorities allowed a 19-year-old man – who is in this country illegally – to sexually assault minor teen girls in the hallways at school for several months??

“There’s a group of about 12 individuals that have reported this assault,” one mother told 7News.

“It was all perpetrated by a single individual who is a stranger to the girls. He just sneakily walked up behind them and put his hand in between their legs,” she said.

“It was not just a butt smack or a butt grab. It was a groping of a private area. It had been occurring for several months,” she added.

Excerpt from WJLA:

An adult Fairfax High School student has been charged with nine counts of assault and battery amid accusations that he was groping girls in the halls during school.

7News Reporter Nick Minock was the first to break this story and spoke exclusively with the victims’ parents.

Israel Flores Ortiz is almost 19 years old, and he’s in the 11th grade at Fairfax High School.

On Friday, Judge Dipti Pidikiti-Smith denied Ortiz’s request to be released from jail, even after Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano’s office agreed to Ortiz’s bail request. The judge said the proposed bail request didn’t properly protect the public.

About a dozen girls have come forward to report that Ortiz put his hands in between their legs, grabbed their private parts in the front, and moved his hands to their butts while in the school’s hallways.

ICE told WJLA reporter Nick Minock that Israel Flores Ortiz illegally entered the US in 2024 on Joe Biden’s open border invitation.

Flores Ortiz was charged with nine counts of assault and battery – a misdemeanor!

Parents are outraged that Flores Ortiz was not charged with sexual assault.

President Trump on Friday appeared to send a warning to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, saying, “I like her very much, but she should get rid of the cartels” and “she should have not refused my help.”

Trump has on several occasions suggested that he would launch military operations against cartels in Mexico.

Trump had shared a recent clip of Sheinbaum earlier, where she brags that she “proudly” turned down US support in fighting the drug cartels.

“That’s right, we said no, proudly no,” Sheinbaum said at the press conference earlier in the week.

WATCH:

This comes after chaos erupted last month in Sinaloa following the death of Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, during a Mexican military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco. As The Gateway Pundit reported, violent battles between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the federal government turned the country into an active warzone as Mexican authorities wrangled with cartel gangsters.

CJNG executed attacks on pharmacies, convenience stores, and government buildings in Guadalajara’s metropolitan area, with explosions and smoke filling the popular tourist destination, and even took over the Guadalajara International Airport.

Trump has previously stated he would be “proud” to launch land strikes against the cartels in Mexico. However, Sheinbaum later rejected Trump’s proposal and said she would not allow US military intervention.

Following US Military strikes in Venezuela and the capture of Nicolas Maduro in Operation Absolute Resolve, Trump also said, “Something’s gonna have to be done with Mexico.”

While departing Washington, DC, en route to West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump on Friday appeared to warn Sheinbaum, telling The Gateway Pundit, “She should not have refused my help.”

“I offered to get rid of the cartels in Mexico, and for some reason, she doesn’t want to do that,” he continued. “Whether we like it or not, the cartels are running Mexico. We can’t have that.”

WATCH:

Conradson: You made a post about Claudia Sheinbaum refusing your help in Mexico. What’s your plan with Mexico?

Trump: Well, she should not have refused my help. I offered to get rid of the cartels in Mexico, and for some reason, she doesn’t want to do that. I like her very much, but she should get rid of the cartels because the cartels are, whether we like it or not, the cartels are running Mexico. We can’t have that!

Homeowners BLINDSIDED — $16,000 Trap Revealed…

Indiana and Florida homeowners face mounting foreclosure pressures as 300,000 properties teeter on the edge, marking a troubling aftermath of pandemic-era policies and Biden administration fiscal failures that drove inflation and insurance costs through the roof.

Pandemic Policies Created a Ticking Time Bomb

Federal forbearance programs from 2020 to 2023 artificially suppressed foreclosures, halting legal processes and creating massive backlogs that now flood state courts. Nationwide foreclosure filings jumped 185 percent from 2021 to the first half of 2023, with 185,580 cases filed as lenders resumed proceedings. Florida recorded 13,837 foreclosure starts in the first half of 2023 alone, trailing only California and Texas. This surge reflects not economic recovery but the unraveling of government interventions that delayed inevitable consequences for overleveraged buyers encouraged by reckless pandemic-era monetary policies.

Florida and Indiana Emerge as Ground Zero

By October 2025, Florida claimed the nation’s highest foreclosure rate at one in every 1,829 homes, with Tampa leading metro areas at one in 1,373. Indiana overtook Florida by February 2026, securing the top state ranking as foreclosure activity accelerated in both regions. Florida metros like Lakeland and Punta Gorda filled the distressed property rankings, driven by collapsing home values, insurance premiums that doubled or tripled post-hurricane, and living costs that squeezed retirees on fixed incomes. Counties such as Osceola, Charlotte, and Okeechobee saw filings spike, while Hillsborough County’s backlog delayed reporting, masking the true scale of distress in Tampa.

Biden Inflation and Insurance Crisis Squeeze Families

Rising costs tied to Biden administration spending and regulatory overreach devastated household budgets. Hidden homeownership expenses now average $16,000 annually beyond mortgage payments, with Florida property insurance premiums soaring due to hurricane exposure and insurer flight from the state. Retirees and recent buyers who purchased at inflated 2020-2023 prices find themselves underwater, unable to absorb property taxes, insurance hikes, and utilities that outpaced wage growth. ATTOM CEO Rob Barber characterizes the trend as gradual normalization from pandemic suppression, yet the reality for families losing homes feels anything but normal. This crisis underscores how government-fueled inflation erodes the American dream of homeownership.

Market Normalization or Warning Signal

Completed foreclosures rose 35 percent year-over-year through February 2026, though industry analysts argue current levels remain below 2008 financial crisis peaks. Foreclosure timelines stretched to 1,212 days on average in the second quarter of 2023, with states like Michigan averaging 2,601 days due to judicial backlogs. Real estate experts advise distressed homeowners to contact lenders early, yet many recent buyers lack equity to negotiate. The influx of foreclosed properties creates opportunities for investors tracking Florida markets in 2026, but it simultaneously displaces families and destabilizes communities already struggling with vacancy spikes and depressed valuations. Whether this wave stabilizes or intensifies depends on whether the Trump administration can reverse inflationary pressures and restore affordability.

The concentration of foreclosures in Indiana and Florida exposes how Biden-era policies hit heartland and sunbelt states hardest, where working families and retirees expected stability. Lenders initiated 4,136 foreclosure starts in Florida during October 2025 alone, compared to 3,080 in Texas and 2,685 in California, signaling disproportionate strain in states with high growth but insufficient infrastructure to absorb cost shocks. Local governments now grapple with managing filings while investors position for bargain purchases, creating a two-tiered housing market where wealth consolidates among institutional buyers. This dynamic threatens the middle-class foundation that conservatives champion, as homeownership slips further from reach for average Americans crushed by policies that prioritized spending over fiscal discipline.

Netherlands: Bomb Blast Targets Jewish School in Amsterdam Neighborhood

A deeply troubling series of attacks targeting Jewish institutions in both Europe and the United States has heightened concerns about rising anti-Semitic violence across the Western world. From explosions at Jewish facilities in the Netherlands to a violent assault on a synagogue in Michigan, authorities are warning that Jewish communities remain under growing pressure.

In Amsterdam, an explosion struck a Jewish school building early Saturday morning in what city officials described as a deliberate attack. The blast occurred in the Buitenveldert neighborhood in the southern part of the Dutch capital and caused minor damage to an exterior wall of the building. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Police and firefighters quickly secured the area and began investigating the incident. Surveillance footage appears to show a suspect placing an explosive device outside the building before fleeing the scene, prompting a large-scale search for the individual responsible.

Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema strongly condemned the attack and said it appeared to be directed specifically at the Jewish community. “This is a cowardly act of aggression against the Jewish community,” she said in a statement, adding that Jewish residents in the city have increasingly faced acts of anti-Semitism in recent months.

Authorities have launched a large investigation to determine who carried out the bombing and whether additional suspects were involved. Security measures around Jewish institutions in the Dutch capital have already been strengthened in response.

The Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right has claimed responsibility online and released a video allegedly showing the attack.

The Amsterdam bombing came during a week in which several other anti-Semitic incidents targeted Jewish sites across the Netherlands. Just one day earlier, an explosive device caused a fire at the entrance of a synagogue in the port city of Rotterdam.

Emergency responders managed to extinguish the flames quickly, and once again no injuries were reported. Nevertheless, the incident sparked immediate concern among authorities and local Jewish leaders. Police arrested four suspects later that day in connection with the Rotterdam attack. The group consisted of two 19-year-old men, an 18-year-old man, and a 17-year-old boy who were detained after officers stopped a vehicle driving suspiciously near another synagogue in the area.

Authorities said the description of the driver matched one of the individuals believed to have carried out the earlier attack. Investigators are now examining whether the Rotterdam arson and the Amsterdam bombing may be connected.

Dutch police are also analyzing video circulating on social media that appears to show an explosion near the targeted synagogue. Officials say the footage could provide valuable clues about how the attack was carried out.

Reports circulating online suggest that a group calling itself “Ashab al-Yamin” has claimed responsibility for some of the incidents. The same organization has been linked to an earlier attack on a synagogue in Liège, Belgium earlier this week, although authorities have not yet verified those claims.

If confirmed, the incidents would suggest a pattern of coordinated intimidation directed at Jewish communities in several European countries. Jewish organizations in the Netherlands have already warned that anti-Semitic hostility has been rising across parts of the continent.

In response, the Dutch government has pledged increased police patrols around synagogues, Jewish schools, and other community institutions. Officials say additional security measures will remain in place while investigators determine whether further threats exist.

Concerns about attacks on Jewish communities are not limited to Europe. In the United States, federal authorities are also investigating a violent assault on a synagogue in suburban Detroit.

According to law enforcement officials, a man rammed a vehicle into Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield Township before opening fire. Security personnel stationed at the synagogue immediately responded and engaged the attacker.

Authorities say the suspect ultimately shot himself during the confrontation after exchanging gunfire with synagogue security officers. The incident occurred while a preschool session was underway at the building.

Fortunately, no children or staff members were injured during the attack. Police and federal agents quickly secured the scene and began gathering evidence.

The suspect has been identified as Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, a 41-year-old US citizen originally from Lebanon. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Ghazali entered the United States in 2011 on an immigrant visa and later became a naturalized citizen in 2016.

Federal investigators say the attack is being treated as a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community. Officials praised the quick actions of synagogue security personnel for preventing what could have become a far more deadly situation.

“The Temple Israel security staff took swift action to prevent civilian casualties,” said West Bloomfield Township Supervisor Jonathan Warshay. Local officials and community leaders also praised first responders for quickly bringing the situation under control.

Authorities say the exact motive behind the Detroit attack remains under investigation. Officials confirmed that Ghazali had recently lost several relatives in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon, including two brothers who were reportedly associated with Hezbollah.

Whether those events played a role in the attack remains unclear. Investigators say they are continuing to examine the suspect’s background, communications, and possible connections to extremist networks.

The recent incidents highlight how tensions abroad can sometimes spill into Western societies. Jewish organizations have long warned that geopolitical conflicts often fuel spikes in anti-Semitic threats and violence.

In response to the growing concern, law enforcement agencies across Europe and the United States have increased security around Jewish schools, synagogues, and community centers. Authorities say vigilance will remain high as investigations into the recent attacks continue.

Prominent DC NeverTrumper Admits to Collaborating with Epstein in Bid to Take Down Trump

Juleanna Glover speaks during a virtual interview, showcasing a modern interior with a unique woven chair design in the background.

Juleanna Glover speaks during a virtual interview, showcasing a modern interior with a unique woven chair design in the background.

For a committed NeverTrumper, opposing Donald Trump apparently excuses anything — including cultivating convicted sex criminals.

According to a Politico review of documents related to the now-deceased Jeffrey Epstein, Juleanna Glover, a Washington political insider with a long history of opposing Donald Trump’s political rise, engaged with Epstein for more than a year before his death in a federal prison cell.

Her defense now for the relationship? It was all about getting Trump.

The time frame for Glover’s extensive emails with Epstein was from late May 2017 to five months before his body was found in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan in August of 2019.

When it started, Trump was in his first term, with Republican majorities in both houses of Congress, the “Russia collusion” smear was still gathering steam, the COVID nightmare was far in the future, and NeverTrumpers — conservatives and Republicans who swore they would “never” support Trump — were looking for every bit of ammunition they could use against his expected re-election bid.

Glover and Epstein were introduced by author Michael Wolff, another anti-Trump figure who was acquainted with both.

“I rolled the dice when Michael Wolff asked me to meet with Epstein against the backdrop of Epstein talking publicly about Trump,” Glover told Politico in a statement.

“My interactions with Epstein were in service to that objective; not to help him in any way or improve his image. Wolff was seemingly positioning me as someone smart enough for him to take advice from.”

At the time, Trump and Epstein had been estranged for years. Epstein had been convicted of soliciting a minor for prostitution and was a registered sex offender.

There had been no indication that Trump was involved in any of Epstein’s questionable activities — as there is no indication now — despite ferocious coverage of Trump from every angle in the establishment media.

But, as Glover explained to Politico, she thought she might get Epstein to damage Trump politically.

It came to nothing, if that was ever even true in the first place.

While Glover has told Politico she had two meetings with Epstein and three phone calls, the bulk of their interaction was via 31 emails, and Politico noted, “there are no emails between Glover and Epstein that show her soliciting information from him about Trump.”

The emails instead show Glover the political consultant using, or attempting to use, Epstein in a business sense for one of her clients — one Elon Musk, the founder of the Tesla electric car company.

They show her chatting about potential third-party presidential tickets that could defeat Trump in 2020.

“Their correspondence about centrist fantasy politics was only a small piece of a professional and political relationship that stretched across more than a year,” Politico’s Daniel Lipman wrote. “Their workaday messages about third party campaigns, conversations that could have easily been with a well-regarded opinion columnist, underline the degree to which a large number of influential people treated Epstein as if he was just another rich guy to be courted rather than a convicted sex criminal with a troublesome reputation.”

But the biggest takeaway from the Politico story is not so much what Glover and Epstein might have talked about, but the way she defended the relationship as simply another avenue of opposition to a man who’d been elected to the presidency against the expectations of the entire political establishment — left and right.

To be associated with the name Jeffrey Epstein now is politically and professionally toxic — just ask former Obama administration Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, now-former World Economic Forum President Borge Brende, or even Democratic Virgin Islands Delegate Stacy Plaskett, who called herself a “friend” of Epstein and whose texting relationship with the sex criminal extended to exchanging texts with him for instructions on what to ask former Trump attorney Michael Cohen during a congressional hearing in 2019.

Summers, Brende, and others have lost their jobs because of the Epstein association.

Plaskett is holding onto hers — so far, anyway — and interestingly, her explanation for her relationship with Epstein is the same as Glover’s.

“I believe that Jeffrey Epstein had information, and I was going to get information to get at the truth,” Plaskett told CNN on “The Situation Room” in a November interview.

Now, Plaskett is a Democratic left-winger, so there’s little that could be surprising there.

Glover, on the other hand, is a longtime political operative from the Republican side of the field. Her resume boasts service on the staffs of former President George W. Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney, former Sen. and Attorney General John Ashcroft, and Sen. John McCain.

Her orbit, according to Politico, includes ardent NeverTrumpers like Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson.

In short, if she was any more Beltway-Establishment-Republican, she’d be the Lincoln Memorial and the Eisenhower Memorial combined.

But both women have rolled out the same excuse for their associations with Jeffrey Epstein long after the legal world had branded him as among the most morally depraved of men — even if it had not punished him accordingly.

Both claimed they were seeking the real dirt on Donald Trump. The unspoken assumption, the quiet part, is that they believe — or at least they believe their listeners believe — that anything is excused if the goal is to defeat Trump and his supporters. It’s a glimpse into the hive mind of contemporary American politics.

It’s proof positive, as if any more were needed, that the only thing that matters to Trump’s opponents — whether they’re on the left or the right — is bringing him down.

And bringing down his supporters with him.

WATCH: Deranged Leftist AZ State Senator Attacks and Lectures Female Volleyball Player, Accuses Her of Being Weak for Refusing to Play Against Men – “How Competitive do You Think You Really Are?”

Woman speaking at a podium with a microphone, smiling, in front of a colorful flag backdrop.

Arizona State Senator Catherine Miranda

An Arizona State Senator berated a female volleyball player for wanting female-only sports on Wednesday during a Senate Education Committee Hearing, where they considered HCR 2003, the Protect Girls in Sports in Arizona Act.

The Senator mocked and attacked the athlete’s “sports mentality,” suggesting she’s just not competitive enough to play against men.

Former NCAA athlete Kaylie Ray gave a public comment on the bill, which would simply designate each sport based on the sex of participating athletes and prohibit a school or athletic association from authorizing an individual to use a provided restroom, locker room, or other private space integral to athletic engagement that is not designated for the individual’s sex.

The bill would further require schools and Arizona athletic associations to designate competitive sports in three categories: men’s, women’s, and coed.

Ray, a former Utah State Volleyball captain, who “led a team forfeit against San Jose State in 2024, in protest of a trans athlete on San Jose State University (SJSU),” according to Fox, spoke in the Senate on her experience being forced to compete against a male athlete as a Division 1 college volleyball player. “Our basic right to a fair and safe competition was violated because the people who were meant to protect us decided that validating this individual’s identity was more important,” she said, urging lawmakers to ensure that women have equal opportunities, safety, and fairness in sports and private spaces.

WATCH:

Ray: I have been playing volleyball in Arizona since I was 8 years old, both at the club and high school levels, and through years of discipline and sacrifice, I earned the honor of becoming an NCAA Division 1 team captain at Utah State University. During my time there, our women’s team was forced to compete against a team that had a male starter. This player had explosive athleticism and attacked with power that was clearly unmatched by any female athlete in the gym. The jumping ability and physicality of the male athlete was also far superior to anyone else’s on the court. My teammates and I feared for our safety, and we were disheartened by the lack of fairness.

Our basic right to a fair and safe competition was violated because the people who were meant to protect us decided that validating this individual’s identity was more important. And let me be clear, bodies play sports, not identities. The emotional toll this situation had on myself, my teammates, and the women across the conference is honestly too great to put into words. We were repeatedly dismissed and abandoned because our leaders were afraid to speak the truth. Men do not belong in women’s spaces– never have, never will.

Only some 50 years ago, women fought for the passage of Title IX to have designated spaces and sports based on sex. They fought relentlessly to have equal opportunities and enjoy the privileges that come with and through education and participating in sport. As those women did before me, I stand before you today to plead for all of the girls and women in sport now and those to come. It is not fair, it is not safe, it is not right to rob us of the opportunities that sport provides by allowing biological males access to our spaces in sports. Reality matters, biology matters, and women matter.

But Arizona State Senator Catherine Miranda found her testimony to be a sign of weakness, arguing that she, as a “tomboy,” was better and more “competitive” than Ray.

“I’ve played against girls that look like you. You look very much in shape and strong. But it’s a sports mentality when you’re growing up and how much competition that you’ll take on,” Miranda said. “So, it’s not just a silver bullet for one community of sports players; it’s the individual person on how competitive you want to be.”

“So, you grew up one way. I grew up a different way. I would have taken on a man in a heartbeat,” she continued, noting that she was the “only girl sometimes in men’s sports” and would have welcomed men in women’s sports.

Miranda previously opened up about being a girl, playing in “men’s sports,” according to a 2017 Hispanic Engineer & Technology report, which details her history of playing in boys’ little league baseball– with prepubescent children. But the way she described it, you’d think she was playing college ball with a wad of Copenhagen in her cheek. She went on to play basketball at Arizona State University, presumably against only females.

“It just depends on the sports mentality of that individual, and that’s why this bill is bad because you’re just putting a whole community of women’s sports in one category when women like me, we have a different opinion,” she added before questioning Ray’s competitive ability.

Ray fired back, “As elite-level athletes, I would say we’re very competitive, which is why this bill designates three categories: male, female, and coed.” She further told the Senator, “If you want to compete against your man, absolutely, let’s do that in the coed section,” and “If that’s the level of competition you want to have for yourself, amazing, go try it in the coed section.”

Notably, Miranda’s criticisms had nothing to do with transgender athletes. She blatantly admitted that the Democrats just want men in women’s sports and that the female athletes who are opposed simply lack competitive spirit.

WATCH:

Miranda: I have my sports hat on now. It’s all about a sports mentality, growing up in sports, being a tomboy. I mean, you look pretty healthy. I’ve played against girls that look like you. You look very much in shape and strong. But it’s a sports mentality when you’re growing up and how much competition that you’ll take on. So, it’s not just a silver bullet for one community of sports players; it’s the individual person on how competitive you want to be.

So, you grew up one way. I grew up a different way. I would have taken on a man in a heartbeat. I played in– I was the only girl sometimes in men’s sports. But to have a man on my team, I would have welcomed it. But this is just my opinion. So, it just depends on the sports mentality of that individual, and that’s why this bill is bad because you’re just putting a whole community of women’s sports in one category when women like me, we have a different opinion. So, how competitive do you think you really are?

Ray: As elite-level athletes, I would say we’re very competitive, which is why this bill designates three categories: male, female, and coed. The idea is that everyone can participate in sport. If you want to compete against your man, absolutely, let’s do that in the coed section. The clarity and distinction is really important because when men are allowed access into women’s sports and spaces, it’s not women’s sports and spaces anymore. And as the passage of Title IX was so important, there is a need, a necessity, to protect women’s spaces.

It’s not to say that people are banned from sports. That’s not the situation at all. If that’s the level of competition you want to have for yourself, amazing, go try it in the coed section. But, again, this is about protecting the women’s category and women’s sports.

Before Casinos, Las Vegas WAS Something Else

Traffic on Las Vegas Boulevard at sunset.

For decades, Las Vegas has served as the neon-lit capital of the American id. Known by monikers like “Sin City” and “Lost Wages,” it’s a place defined by the promise that “what happens here, stays here.” It is a city of high-stakes irony—a destination where, as the saying goes, “losers come to win, and winners come to lose.”

While the modern Las Vegas Strip feels like an eternal, extravagant spectacle dropped into the Nevada desert, its origins are rooted in a much more grounded American tradition: the expansion of the railroad.

An Oasis in the Mojave

Long before the casinos, the area’s primary asset wasn’t luck—it was water. Despite being nestled in the Mojave Desert, the valley featured rare artesian springs that created a natural oasis.

This water source caught the eye of William Clark, a powerful U.S. Senator and railroad magnate. In 1902, Clark purchased 2,000 acres of land and the accompanying water rights. His goal was to establish a vital waypoint for the San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad, a line designed to bridge the gap between those major hubs.

A Tale of Two Townships

As construction on the tracks began in 1904, a brief but intense rivalry shaped the city’s footprint:

  • The East Side (Clark’s Vision): Backed by massive land holdings and railroad influence, Clark auctioned off parcels to the east of the tracks in 1905. To entice buyers, he even offered refunds on train fares to the town.
  • The West Side (McWilliams’ Town): Civil engineer John T. McWilliams attempted to build a competing township on 80 acres west of the tracks.

The competition was fierce but lopsided. Clark held the ultimate trump cards: the water rights and the railroad itself.

The Turning Point

The rivalry ended abruptly on September 5, 1905, when a devastating fire leveled McWilliams’ settlement. With his competitor sidelined, Clark consolidated his power by forming the Las Vegas Land & Water Company.

He famously vowed to “leave no stone unturned” in his mission to foster the growth of the fledgling town. It was this marriage of industrial ambition and desert necessity that laid the foundation for the sprawling metropolis we know today.
