The Race to Be the Next UK Chancellor

The Race to Be the Next UK Chancellor

For the prospective prime minister, each candidate has drawbacks.

Andy Burnham Returns To Westminster Following Makerfield By-Election Victory
UK Special Coverage

The relationship between the prime minister and the chancellor is the most important in British politics. In short, they have to get on, or the government doesn’t. History is littered with examples of administrations that became dysfunctional because the first lord of the Treasury—to give the prime minister his full title—and the chancellor of the Exchequer did not see eye to eye.

Most recently, when Tony Blair and Gordon Brown fell out in 2005 over the Labour succession, the government largely lost the plot. Andy Burnham, the presumptive heir to the recently resigned Prime Minister Keir Starmer, was in government at the time, and he saw what happened. He will insist now on a chancellor who is simpatico.

The obvious choice is his leading supporter Environment and Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband. Labour’s deputy leader, Lucy Powell, has publicly backed him for the post. But there is considerable opposition to “Red Ed,” as he is called by the tabloid newspapers, because of his almost messianic pursuit of the green energy agenda.

Powerful trade unions, such as the GMB, and MPs from industrial seats think he is crucifying British industry on the altar of Net Zero by banning drilling in the North Sea and allowing Britain to have some of the highest energy prices in the industrialized world. That is one big handicap.

Next on the wannabe chancellor list is the former Health Secretary Wes Streeting. He arguably opened the way for Burnham’s coup by his dramatic resignation from Starmer’s government last month. He was originally thought to be a possible candidate for the party leadership, but he decided to back Burnham when he apparently failed to get the required 81 names for a leadership challenge.

This lack of popularity in the Parliamentary Labour Party is Streeting’s main handicap in the race for chancellor. He is on the right of the party and was close to the disgraced former Labour spin doctor Peter Mandelson. That may be enough to rule him out as chancellor.

Many Labour MPs believe Burnham should have a woman chancellor to give gender balance to his administration and break up “the boys’ club,” as Labour feminists call it. Shabana Mahmood, the hard-hitting home secretary and architect of Labour’s more stringent immigration policies, has been widely touted for the second most important job in the cabinet. She would be capable and is highly respected for her intelligence and fortitude. But it is not clear that she is one of Burnham’s people. She is also in the middle of introducing Labour’s policy on creating “safe and legal routes” for would-be migrants and so is not easy to replace.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is one of the most experienced politicians in the Cabinet. She served as chief secretary to the Treasury from January 2008 to June 2009, the first woman to hold the post. She is also the wife of the former Labour minister Ed Balls, who helped mastermind Gordon Brown’s policy of central bank independence in the 1990s.  Cooper must be under consideration at least, even though she too is not obviously close to the future prime minister

The dark horse in the race is John Healey, the former defense secretary. His resignation two weeks ago over defense cuts was the final knife in Starmer’s back, and the PM resigned within days. Healey is highly thought of by civil servants for his competence and common sense. But he resigned because Starmer reneged on his promise to allocate £28 billion for the all-important Defence Investment Plan. It is not clear that Burnham, who has other priorities, would be willing to deliver on defense spending. The Prime Minister-in-waiting does not want another resignation early in his time in Number 10.

There are no easy choices in politics, and perhaps the most likely move would be for Burnham to go with his instincts and support his close friend and key supporter, Miliband. But he would have to make it absolutely clear that, as chancellor, Miliband would have to accept cutting energy costs as the top priority.

If that means reopening the North Sea and allowing development of the blocked Rosebank and Jackdaw oil and gas fields, then Miliband would have to accept it with good grace. Whether the bond markets would accept Miliband  with the same grace, given his left-wing credentials and his support for more public spending, is another matter.

Finally, Burnham  could just leave the current Chancellor Rachel Reeves in post. She has been a modest success by Labour standards since she ramped up taxation without scaring the bond markets. She would solve Burnham’s woman problem.

But “Rachel from Accounts,” as she is known by her critics, was perhaps too closely associated with the old Starmer regime.  The King of the North seems to want a clean sweep when he finally takes the reins of power in about two weeks.

Haiti Is Too Dangerous For Haitians? John Kasich DEMANDS Congress Prioritize Foreigners Over Americans (VIDEO)

Person with glasses gesturing while discussing political backlash regarding immigration policies, with a focus on Ohio and Haitian migrants.

Apparently, Haiti is too dangerous for Haitians.

But the celebrities lectured us and said it was great!

Users on X have been quick to show that the internet is forever:

Former Governor Kasich is very upset that Haitians may have to go back to Haiti. He is demanding that Congress extend TPS.

The Gateway Pundit reported,

Disgraced former Ohio Governor and serial “Never Trumper” John Kasich is facing a tsunami of well-deserved blowback after taking to social media to cry tears for illegal migrants while completely ignoring the plight of his own former constituents.

In a stunningly tone-deaf post, Kasich attacked a recent Supreme Court decision that would finally allow Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to expire, paving the way for the rule of law to be restored in places like Springfield, Ohio.

Kasich posted the following on social media:

“The Supreme Court has allowed TPS for Haitians to end, putting families in Springfield and communities across the country at risk of being sent back to a country in chaos. Congress can and should extend these protections.”

As The Gateway Pundit has previously reported, Springfield, Ohio was ground zero for the Biden border catastrophe. Over 15,000 Haitian migrants flooded the small city in a short period, overwhelming housing, schools, hospitals, and police resources. Rents exploded. Crime rose. Residents reported pets being stolen and eaten.

Things would have been so bad if Trump had not won in 2016.

These swamp monster RINOs are waiting in the shadows, chomping at the bit in hopes that they can reclaim the power that the people took back.

We must never allow them to control the levers of power again.

Watch Obama’s DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano Announce ‘TEMPORARY’ Protected Status for Haitians in the U.S. 16 Years Ago in 2010 (VIDEO)

Screencap of Twitter/X video.

A lot of people on the left are freaking out over the Supreme Court’s ruling on the TPS program that began under Obama, which granted temporary protected status to illegal immigrants from Haiti living in the United States. It was later expanded to also cover people from Syria.

Due to the SCOTUS ruling, the Trump administration can deport these people and liberals are outraged.

You will see plenty of angry tweets from Democrat leaders about TPS but almost none of them mention what the ‘T’ in TPS stands for. They don’t want to remind the public that this was supposed to be TEMPORARY.

In the video from 2010 below, Janet Napolitano, then serving as Obama’s DHS secretary, announces the program and says it will last for 18 months. That was 16 years ago.

Transcript by Twitter/X video clipper, the Western Lensman:

“Lastly, as has been widely reported yesterday, I signed the order beginning for the process of TPS status for Haitians already in the United States. This is a kind of an intermediate immigration status that allows those who are here to remain and to work, and as they work, of course, many send remittances back home.

This in and of itself, is a form of support to Haiti and a form of economic assistance to Haiti. To qualify, you must have been in the United States before January the 12th, the date of the earthquake.

It will be good for 18 months from the date of the issuance. So that will be in July of 2011. So for Haitians in the country who were here before the earthquake, we are now opening up the process of TPS, that intermediate immigration status for you.”

Here’s the video:

Sixteen years is temporary?

It’s almost like the Democrats knew that nothing about this program was supposed to be temporary at all. They thought the public would completely forget about it and those people would just quietly turn into more Democrat voters.

Dem Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia Claims Transphobia is ‘An Offense to the Glory of God’ (VIDEO)

Screencap of Twitter/X video.

Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia, a Democrat, recently spoke to members of a synagogue in Los Angeles and claimed that transphobia is violence against humanity and divinity and an offense to the glory of God.

First, transphobia is a stupid word. People who object to the trans agenda do not fear trans people. They just don’t want it pushed on their kids in schools. They don’t want their wives and daughters to have to share intimate spaces with biological men.

Second, aren’t trans people the ones who are denying God by interfering with His creation? They are the ones who are permanently altering their bodies, which were created by God, in His image.

Warnock is a pastor. You would think he’d know better.

Breitbart News reports:

Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) addressed the IKAR synagogue in Los Angeles and used the opportunity to deliver a host of observations excoriating those who, in his opinion, exercise homophobia and transphobia.

Warnock, a Baptist pastor, joined Rabbi Sharon Brous in a public exchange after his initial sermon, but not before he espoused his condemnation for those that oppose his views, saying “transphobia” is “violence not only against humanity but against divinity. It is an offense to the glory of God.”

Warnock later confessed he had to chasten some of those within his own church and community for their views because, “that church is as homophobic as anybody.”…

As Breitbart News previously reported, Warnock is a self-described “pro-LGBTQ+ pastor,” and one of the Democrats’ loudest voices when it comes to promoting the transgender agenda.

“I’m a pro-LGBTQ+ pastor who understands that no one is free until we are all free,” Warnock tweeted during his 2020 campaign against former Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA).

Here’s the clip:

The Democrats are never going to let go of this issue.

The instant they regain power, they will pick up exactly where they left off before the 2024 election. They do not care what the public thinks about this at all. They just want to do what they want.

(VIDEO) Trump Calls Out Senate RINOs and John Thune for Refusal to Fire Parliamentarian and Pass SAVE America Act After SCOTUS Ruling on Mail-in Ballots

Donald Trump speaking passionately at his desk in the Oval Office, surrounded by U.S. flags and personal photos.

President Trump on Monday responded to the Supreme Court’s decision allowing unlimited mail-in voting with ballots received after Election Day and blasted Senate RINOs and Senate Majority Leader John Thune for failing to pass the SAVE America Act.

“I cannot understand it. A leader has the right to fire the person at will and put somebody else there,” Trump said, calling Thune out for his inexplicable failure to fire the far-left Senate Parliamentarian. Trump went on to name the five Republicans and blast them for stonewalling the bill.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, the US Supreme Court on Monday ruled 5-4 that federal law does not require mail-in ballots to be received by Election Day. Justice Samuel Alito, writing the Court’s dissent, blasted the majority’s disregard for federal law.

Trump responded to the ruling earlier, blasting the Senate for refusing to pass the SAVE America Act. “The House of Representatives has approved this vital Act, THREE TIMES. The United States Senate seems unable to do so,” Trump wrote.

“In a time when there is a powerful Communist Movement taking place in our Country, one more dangerous than World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or September 11th, all Dumocrats, and our five Republican Senate Hold Outs, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Thom Tillis, Bill Cassidy, and Mitch McConnell must vote to SAVE OUR COUNTRY.”

When asked about the ruling during an executive order signing ceremony on Monday afternoon, Trump described it as “a little bit surprising,” adding, “I think it was very detrimental to honest elections, but it is what it is.”

“The Save Act is even more important,” he said.

Asked whether he’s spoken with Leader Thune about firing liberal Obama-era Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough, Trump said “I have,” before calling Thune out for his refusal.

“I can’t imagine why you keep a woman that was put there by Harry Reid and Barack Hussein Obama; I cannot understand it. A leader has the right to fire the person at will and put somebody else there,” Trump said. “We get so many negative rulings from her, the parliamentarian. She’s been there for years, and she was put there by Harry Reid and Barack Hussein Obama.”

He continued, “Harry Reid was a bad guy, and he was the leader, and he put her, and the speaker has the right to immediately fire her and put somebody else there! It’s not even believable that she’s still there. She’s obviously a good politician or something.”

WATCH:

He also called out RINO Senators Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Thom Tillis, Bill Cassidy, and Mitch McConnell.

Murkowski, he said, is “always against things like this.” He further slammed Thom Tillis, saying, “he’s not in office because of me, so he holds me because I wouldn’t endorse him,” and calling him “angry.”

WATCH:

Trump has called for RINO Leader John Thune to fire the Parliamentarian several times. Earlier this month, Trump renewed his demands to the Senate, writing on Truth Social, “She is known as a Radical Left Lunatic that caters to Democrats, and has no respect for Republicans, or Republican Ideology. Just the other night, as an example, she ruled against us on a proposal that would have easily been approved, and should have been, by anyone else.”

This was after MacDonough ruled that the SAVE America Act did not comply with the Byrd rule and struck it from the Senate’s reconciliation bill.

Thune, however, told reporters, “That’s, I guess, his opinion. But that would create even more vote issues here if we were to try and do something like that.”

Daveigh Chase, Voice of Lilo in ‘Lilo & Stitch’ and Star of ‘The Ring,’ Dead at 35; Official Cause of Death Revealed to be AIDS

Collage featuring a young girl with a doll, a smiling woman, and a spooky character, highlighting a video about a chase in Los Angeles.

Former child actress and voice actress Daveigh Chase died earlier this month at the age of 35.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has officially ruled the cause of death as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), with chronic polysubstance use listed as a secondary cause.

Chase, who also went by the name Daveigh Schwallier, died while homeless in Los Angeles, despite having millions of dollars in unclaimed residuals.

The New York Post reported:

Chase was just 8 years old when she landed the voice of Lilo in Disney’s classic film and signed a deal that gave her a cut of merchandise sales, residuals, theme park attractions and other products using her voice — rather than a one-time payment, John Ryan said.

Ryan, who managed Chase for more than a decade, continued to receive SAG-AFTRA notices to his office reporting she had unclaimed residual checks. Ryan told The Post there was “millions” in unclaimed money.

Chase was “too far gone,” allegedly hooked on heroin and fentanyl, to collect the money despite Ryan’s attempts to get in touch with Chase over the years.

Ryan added it’s usually next of kin who can collect residuals after someone has died, which would put Chase’s father in a position to get the money.

Initial reports from her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, indicated she passed away following complications from bacterial meningitis and sepsis stemming from a severe blood infection.

The coroner’s official findings were released on Monday.

Chase rose to prominence as a child performer in the early 2000s. She voiced the lead character Lilo in Disney’s animated hit Lilo & Stitch, as well as in follow-ups including Stitch! The Movie, Lilo & Stitch: The Series on Disney Channel, and Leroy & Stitch.

She also played the terrifying Samara Morgan in The Ring and appeared in Donnie Darko and its sequel, S. Darko. She also played Rhonda Volmer on HBO’s Big Love.

In 2003, Sean “Diddy” Combs creepily invited her to his afterparty after presenting her with an MTV Movie Award when she was just 12 years old, a move that has raised eyebrows across social media.

Chase largely stepped away from acting around 2016.

Her father, John David Schwallier, told The New York Times that she had been homeless and struggled with drugs since age 13. He stated he had not spoken with her in many years.

Her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, wrote in a GoFundMe campaign launched around the time of her hospitalization, “After a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown L.A. When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved. Together, we found moments of happiness and hope.”

Inmates at a North Carolina jail managed to take over the facility for approximately nine hours on Monday, creating a hostage situation after they successfully overpowered the guards.

During the takeover, only three guards faced 88 inmates at the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail in Windsor, North Carolina. Authorities did not say how many inmates were involved in the takeover.

The incident reportedly began at approximately 5 AM and lasted until approximately 2 PM.

Video from the scene shows buses transporting inmates to separate detention facilities.

More from ABC 12:

FBI Charlotte announced at approximately 2 pm ET that the situation had ended. FBI SWAT, FBI Hostage Rescue Team, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene.

Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin  announced at a press conference, “I am relieved to report that the situation concluded safely around 2:00 pm today with minimum injuries.”

“Now that the incident has concluded, the investigation into what occurred and how it happened is just beginning. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigations will be conducting interviews and investigations with all parties that are involved in the coming days,” he continued, noting that the investigation could continue for “several days.”

While taking questions from reporters, Ruffin said the facility was damaged by SWAT teams responding to the takeover. No inmates remain housed in the jail.

Deputies arrived at the scene early in the morning but were unable to get inside immediately, he said.

Rep. Brandon Gill Introduces Legislation to Ban Taxpayer-Backed Mortgages for Illegal Aliens

Texas Congressman Brandon Gill has introduced legislation to end the use of American taxpayer dollars to back mortgages for illegal aliens and other non-permanent residents.

The bill will finally prioritize citizens for federal housing programs designed to help Americans achieve homeownership.

Gill announced the Homeownership Eligibility Reform Act on X on Monday.

He wrote, “I just introduced a bill to restrict taxpayer-backed mortgages to U.S. citizens only.”

“The sole purpose of our housing programs is to help Americans build wealth and achieve the American Dream. Illegal immigration is making that impossible,” Gill added.

WATCH:

The legislation comes shortly after the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the Trump administration took steps to tighten eligibility.

Gill noted that under previous policies, about six percent of all FHA-insured mortgages went to non-citizens, including those without permanent legal status. He argued that an administrative fix alone is not enough because it could be undone on day one by the next Democrat president, which is why his bill codifies the restrictions into statute.

The legislation requires anyone receiving these taxpayer-backed mortgages to be a U.S. citizen.

It bars illegal aliens and other non-permanent residents from qualifying for FHA loans and prevents Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from buying or guaranteeing mortgages made to noncitizens.

This builds directly on recent HUD changes that eliminated the category of non-permanent residents from FHA programs, explicitly cutting off access for illegal aliens and refocusing resources on citizens who play by the rules.

The announcement spread quickly online, with many expressing outrage that illegal aliens were ever able to access these programs in the first place.

THE AIR-CONDITIONING WARS: ‘Modern’ Europe Faces the Summer With a Lot of Climate Panic and No A/C’s

Heat map of Europe highlighting major cities including London, Paris, Budapest, and Rome, showcasing temperature variations across the continent.
It’s called summer: Wiki Commons

European Globalists whine and refuse to modernize in the name of their favorite fiction: ‘man-made global warming’.

This last week, European Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen caught ‘a lot of heat’. Why? She decided that the European Commission HQ in Brussels would shut off air conditioning from floors 0 to 7 during Brussels’ summer heatwave.

That’s asinine, of course. But the worst: floors 8 to 13 — where von der Leyen works — remain icy cold with the simple technological gadgets that anyone in the rest of the world can enjoy.

Nowadays, every summer, the overlords utilize the hot weather to violently push their ‘net-zero lunacy’ on the populations, while refusing the obvious solutions.

Euronews reported:

“Once considered an unnecessary luxury across much of Europe, air conditioning has become one of the continent’s most politically charged household appliances after nearly two weeks of extreme and deadly temperatures. For decades, Europe distinguished itself from hotter parts of the world by relying on thick masonry buildings, shutters, tree-lined streets and mild summers. Air conditioning remained relatively uncommon, particularly in northern and western Europe but climate change could alter that reality.”

‘Climate change’, right? Their obsession.

When we hear Europeans treating 35°C as a calamity, we cannot help but smile at their lack of knowledge and gullibility. But when we hear that in Germany, for example, even surgical rooms do not have A/C, we start to wonder if they are not killing people on purpose.

“Climate advocates and government officials warn that widespread adoption of air conditioning risks creating a vicious cycle. More cooling requires more expensive electricity, increasing demand during heat waves when power systems are already under strain.”

The warning comes from ‘climate advocates and government officials’ – but there is no difference between these two categories.

All the planet uses A/C – but Europeans think they are the center of the world and know better.

“However, the debate over air conditioning moved into the spotlight after French lawmaker Marine Le Pen (Front National) called for a mass, subsidized roll-out of the cooling appliance, with traditionally hostile Greens conceding that some air-conditioning may now be inevitable.”

[…] Air conditioning ownership has surpassed 1.5 billion units globally, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), yet usage varies widely across regions. While 90% of homes in the United States have air conditioning units, the figure is just 20% in European homes, the IEA said.”
