Russia fired 36 ballistic missiles and 172 long-range attack drones overnight into November 7, striking Kyiv and the surrounding region and damaging the capital’s Northern Bridge and substations linking the Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants to Kyiv. Ukrainian authorities reported 37 people injured nationwide over the past day. Air defenses downed 149 drones and four missiles. The strikes came days before U.S.-mediated peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said several missiles hit the Northern Bridge, damaging the roadway, a trolleybus contact line and a power line. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said six ballistic missiles were fired at the bridge and four struck it. Five trucks parked nearby were damaged, and the bridge was closed to traffic in both directions. Russia previously hit the bridge on October 3 and 4, and Russian missiles struck Kyiv’s Southern Bridge in October.

The State Emergency Service reported six people injured in Kyiv. Klitschko said a 14-year-old was among them and two people were hospitalized. In the Solomianskyi district, a missile left a large crater beside a five-story building. The blast caused part of a kindergarten to collapse and damaged 29 apartment buildings. The kindergarten’s 58 children will attend a neighboring facility. Klitschko said damage to energy facilities disrupted power, heating and water supplies.

In Kyiv Oblast, a 66-year-old man died in a hospital in the Brovary district after suffering serious injuries. A drone hit a private home in Bohdanivka, injuring a woman and her husband. Rescuers freed the husband from the rubble. Ten private houses, 11 cars, gas station premises, a car dealership and two auto repair shops were damaged in the Brovary district. Four homes were damaged in the Bila Tserkva district. Energy facilities were hit in the Bucha and Obukhiv districts. One substation in Kyiv Oblast links the Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear plants to Kyiv and central Ukraine.

Zelensky said substations were also damaged in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. In Vinnytsia Oblast, a drone damaged a State Emergency Service building, rescue equipment, a market stall and several cars, injuring one person. Drones hit fuel and energy infrastructure in Zhytomyr Oblast and an energy facility in Odesa Oblast.

Russian forces carried out more than 60 attacks on 22 settlements in Sumy Oblast using guided bombs and drones. A drone killed a 52-year-old man in the Lypovodolynska community. Ten people were injured across the oblast, including seven wounded by guided bombs in the Sumy community. In Kharkiv Oblast, Russia struck Kharkiv city and nine other settlements, injuring a 55-year-old woman.

In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, regional head Oleksandr Hanzha reported almost 20 attacks on four districts. In Pavlohrad, one person was killed and four were injured, including an 11-year-old girl. Apartment buildings and an enterprise were damaged. Earlier this month, a Russian drone killed 15 people at the Dnipro train station.

Russian forces carried out 848 strikes on 55 settlements in Zaporizhzhia Oblast on November 6, including 22 airstrikes and 654 drone strikes, most involving first-person-view (FPV) drones. An FPV drone injured a 59-year-old man in Kushuhum. Earlier this month, Russian bombing of an aid site in the region killed 42 people. In Kherson Oblast, Russia attacked 31 settlements, damaging two high-rise buildings and a house and injuring seven people.

Ukraine’s General Staff said Ukrainian Navy Neptune missiles struck the Proton-Elektrotex plant in Oryol, which produces switch-inverters for Iskander-M ballistic missiles and modules for Kh-71 cruise missiles. Saratov Governor Roman Busargin reported a drone attack that caused damage and casualties, while Russian outlet Astra reported a fire at Rosneft’s Saratov refinery. Overnight into November 8, Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar said drones hit a bridge over the Mius River on the highway linking Rostov-on-Don to occupied Ukraine. Separately, Ukraine’s General Staff reported 2,280 Russian casualties over the past day, bringing its cumulative tally to 1,604,110.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky will lead Russia’s delegation at the Abu Dhabi talks on November 10 and 11. He will be joined by Deputy Foreign Ministers Sergei Ryabkov and Mikhail Galuzin, military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov and senior General Staff officer Yury Zhigarlovsky. Rustem Umerov will lead Ukraine’s delegation.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said he would introduce legislation supporting Ukraine and urged Congress to impose controls on Starlink and Starshield. “Trump needs new negotiators — not fawning pawns who call this brutal murderer a ‘humanitarian,’” he wrote.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius told the Berliner Morgenpost that Germany cannot supply more Patriot air defense systems for now because it could not replace them without leaving gaps in its own defenses. “We cannot do more right now,” he said.

Separately, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Italy faces “a hybrid war” after the pro-Russian hacker group NoName057(16) placed a bounty on 18 people, including Tajani, and posted personal data about him and his relatives on the dark web. He asked the G7 meeting in Paris to take up the issue.
