On Thursday night, Ankeny police responded to McDonald’s after multiple 911 callers reported that a person in a vehicle had fired shots through the drive-thru window.
Officers found one employee with a gunshot wound to the arm and a second employee who was grazed by a bullet.
“Officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound to his arm and immediately provided emergency aid,” Ankeny police spokesperson Sgt. Trevor McGraw told the Des Moines Register. “He is expected to survive. A second adult male was grazed by a bullet as well. He was evaluated at the scene but was not transported.”
The shooting was reportedly over a dispute about an order that Mohamed believed had been filled incorrectly.
Neither employee knew the shooter.
Using security footage and license plate readers, police identified the suspect and located him roughly an hour later. They took him into custody without incident.
Local coverage initially described the suspect simply as an “Iowa” or “Des Moines man.”
Mohamed faces two counts of attempted murder, two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and additional counts of willful injury causing bodily injury and willful injury causing serious injury.
According to Libs of TikTok, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Mohamed entered the United States in 2014 and was granted citizenship by the Biden administration in 2021.
