A United Airlines flight en route to Newark, New Jersey, was forced to make an abrupt u-turn back to Las Vegas on Saturday night after flight crew caught a passenger texting about hijacking the plane.
A 25-year-old unidentified male was arrested at Harry Reid International Airport in Vegas and booked at the Clark County Detention Center.
Air Traffic Control audio revealed the moment the pilots became aware of the potential threat.
“The passenger does not know anything is going on,” a pilot said, Fox News reported.
“The flight attendant saw him texting that he was going to hijack the aircraft and called me and we went lockdown. … No restraint, passenger is compliant because he’s unaware,” the pilot said.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.

A disruptive passenger forced a Newark-bound United Airlines flight to make a swift U-turn back to Las Vegas late Saturday night, grounding the cross-country trip until Sunday morning.
United Flight 1681 had just departed Harry Reid International Airport when the crew flagged “a potential security concern” in the cabin.
The Boeing 737, carrying 150 passengers and six crew members, safely touched back down in Vegas at roughly 11:05 p.m. without any reported injuries, several news outlets reported.
“United flight 1681 from Las Vegas to Newark on Saturday, Oct. 24, safely returned to Las Vegas to address a potential security concern,” United Airlines said in a shared statement with Fox News Digital.
“The flight was delayed overnight due to crew timeout, and departed for Newark this morning,” the statement continued.

An Illinois man was arrested for sending threatening letters with white substance to members of Congress.
Matthew Unglesbee was arrested and charged with false information, hoaxes, and mailing threatening communications.
Unglesbee sent four letters containing a white granular substance with his name and home address.
According to investigators, upon searching Unglesbee’s residence, they discovered a fifth letter containing a white substance.
Unglesbee told investigators the white substance was salt.

A man has been charged in Illinois with mailing four letters containing a white granular substance to members of Congress, all of which were sent in envelopes containing his name and home address.
Matthew Unglesbee has been charged with sending threatening letters containing a white granular substance to three members of Congress, along with a handwritten letter that read “HA HA.” A fourth letter with a white granular substance included the note “HAH enjoy the gift.”
Unglesbee is facing two charges: false information and hoaxes, and mailing threatening communications. He will make an initial appearance in court on Monday afternoon.
In an interview with FBI personnel on Sunday, Unglesbee allegedly admitted that he mailed four letters to four members of Congress after hearing about other letters mailed earlier in the month. The FBI is separately investigating letters containing suspicious substances that were sent to members of Congress and elections officials in recent weeks.
Unglesbee admitted that he knew that people would perceive the letters as dangerous, the FBI says. He said in the FBI interview that the granular substance was salt, which he said “kind of looks like” anthrax. He denied involvement with prior mailings.

Star Trek actor Walter Koenig, who played Russian navigator Ensign Pavel Chekov, has passed away.
He was 90 years old.
Walter Koenig passed away of natural causes, his family announced.
Koenig was born in Chicago to Lithuanian Jewish immigrants.
According to TMZ, Walter’s daughter and niece were by his side when he passed away in his North Hollywood home on Sunday.
“Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too,” said fellow Star Trek actor George Takei.
“Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course,” George Takei said.
Walter Koenig, the boyish actor who remains an integral part of Star Trek lore thanks to his portrayal of the Russian crewman Pavel Chekov, has died. He was 90.
Koenig, also known for playing the scoundrel Alfred Bester on another sci-fi space series, Warner Bros. Television’s Babylon 5, died Sunday of natural causes in his home in North Hollywood, his rep announced.
Raised in Manhattan as a son of Lithuanian immigrants, Koenig joined Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek for the start of its second season and appeared on 36 of the 50 episodes that aired in 1967-68 and 1968-69. He also portrayed Pavel Andreievich Chekov in the first seven Paramount movies, released from 1979 through 1991, that emanated from the NBC show.

Backlash is brewing in France over the decision by French-Canadian singer and songwriter Nina Tonji to alter the words of France’s national anthem, “La Marseillaise,” before singing it to a stadium full of people.
Appearing at an NFL game Sunday between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Saints at the Stade de France in Paris, Tonji sang a slightly modified version of “La Marseillaise” just before the game.

According to Fox News, Tonji changed the song lyrics “Qu’un sang impur abreuve nos sillons!” to “Qu’un sang uni abreuve nos sillons!” in what the network described as a likely “political” move.
The original meaning of the lyrics was “May impure blood water our furrows/fields.”
“In the revolutionary context of La Marseillaise, ‘impure blood’ referred to enemies and traitors – particularly French immigrants fighting alongside foreign armies,” according to Fox News.
The meaning of the remixed line was “May united blood water our furrows/fields.”
“Replacing impur (‘impure’) with uni (‘united’) changes the meaning of the passage from a call for enemy blood to nourish France’s soil into an appeal for national unity and solidarity that includes immigrants to nourish France’s soil,” Fox News noted.
In other words, Tonji altered France’s national anthem so that instead of being, in part, about violently excluding foreign enemies, it became instead about finding unity with foreigners and immigrants.
The outrage has been especially loud on social media.
Yves Bourdillon, a prominent journalist for the French financial and economic newspaper Les Echos, wondered in a post published to the social media site X how Tonji would react if someone altered Canada’s national anthem.
“[I]t would be interesting to see the look on her face if we rewrote the Canadian anthem,” he wrote in French, according to a translation from X.

Mathieu Bock-Côté, a widely known intellectual, sociologist, and media personality who’s reportedly famous in both Canada and France, suggested in an X post that Tonji doesn’t know how to sing and doesn’t respect France’s national anthem.
“First, they could choose someone who knows how to sing,” he wrote in an X post written in French, according to an X translation. “Second, that person could respect the spirit of the Marseillaise, the traditional way of singing it.”
“Third, she could avoid modifying the lyrics of the national anthem as if it belonged to her, as if she had the right to do so,” he added.
Fox News suggested in its reporting that the NFL could prevent future scenarios like this by forcing “artists to sign binding contracts that demand they perform the songs [they’re assigned to sing] as written.”
All this comes days after American NBA star LeBron James disrespected America’s own national anthem.

A newly circulated Air Force memorandum has quietly expanded the criteria for Seasonal Influenza Vaccine Exceptions to Policy (ETP), effectively creating a system where few, if any, can avoid compromising their religious convictions during their service.
As previously reported over a year ago by The Gateway Pundit, a major Cleveland Clinic study of its workforce during the 2024–2025 respiratory viral season raised significant questions about the influenza vaccine’s effectiveness. The research, which tracked more than 53,000 employees, found that vaccinated working-age adults were statistically more likely to contract influenza compared to their unvaccinated colleagues.
Even after adjusting for variables including age, sex, occupational role, and worksite location, the data indicated a 27 percent higher risk of influenza infection among those who received the vaccine.
Against the backdrop of emerging concern over the flu shot’s effectiveness and efficacy, the new Air Force directive directly contradicts the April 20th declaration from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who stated unequivocally that “effective immediately,” neither Active nor Reserve personnel—nor civilian employees of the Department of War—would be compelled to take the influenza vaccine.
The move has ignited immediate concern among service members with religious objections to vaccination, many of whom are still recovering from what one attorney called “the purge” during the COVID-19 era.
“This is deeply disappointing,” said Davis Younts, a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and military defense attorney who represented numerous clients during the height of the military’s 2021 COVID-19 shot mandate disputes. “Every time something like this happens, I immediately think of the clients who will be impacted.”
Younts estimates he has already heard from nearly half a dozen individuals since the memo circulated—clients who, since COVID, “have done the research, put the thought in, and have valid, significant, reasonable religious objections to vaccines.” For them, he said, the October 20 guidance isn’t just another memo—it’s a breach of trust.
According to the memo, the updated policy mandates that the following personnel receive the annual seasonal influenza vaccine—a requirement that, given the broad categories, will apply to virtually every Air Force member at some point in their career:
Recruits, training populations, and congregate living
Rapid Deployment Forces and “no-fail” missions
Deployed forces
Healthcare personnel
Civilian personnel employed in child development and youth services programs; and Air Mobility Command military personnel assigned as aircrew supporting United States Transportation Command taskings; en route care personnel; and executive airlift personnel
“The Air Force in particular has done nothing significant to earn back the trust of those impacted by religious accommodation denials during COVID,” Younts stated.
“But the bigger issue,” he emphasized, “is that no one has been held accountable for violating the religious rights of service members.” Not a single officer who rubber-stamps these religious accommodation denials has faced reprimand or review.
“I have zero faith in the system,” Younts said bluntly. “We just got people back in the aircraft, back in training, ready to be competitive for promotion—and now we’re right back where we started. It’s insane.”
When asked who might be behind the push of this new guidance, Younts speculated it likely originated from the Surgeon General’s office. “The medical establishment is either supportive of every vaccine for every situation, or scared to speak ill against any vaccine,” he said.
The memorandum could leave service members facing an impossible choice between conscience and career—a dilemma that echoes far beyond this flu season into questions about institutional trust and whether constitutional protections truly extend into uniform.
For those whose take a religious objection to vaccines, this apprehension about their future is not just personal—it’s systemic. “Without accountability and without genuine oversight,” Younts warned, “there is a real concern the religious accommodation process will once again be abused. And you’ll see another purge.”

A woman was arrested on Saturday after an attack on a rabbi and another Jewish man in New York City
The New York Post reports that Anna Mochalova, 32, was arrested and is facing charges, including assault as a hate crime, after jabbing a young rabbi in Midtown Manhattan. Officials also revealed she attacked another Jewish man just minutes later.
The alleged bigot began to stalk Yosef, a 26-year-old rabbi, who is seen in surveillance video wearing traditional Orthodox garb, before stabbing him in the back with a needle near West 47th Street and Fifth Avenue on Wednesday at 5:50 p.m., according to prosecutors.
Yosef, the young rabbi stabbed with a syringe, previously told The Post he believes he was targeted because he is “visibly Jewish.”
In another incident a few minutes laters, Mochalova is alleged to have deliberately bumped into a 37-year-old Jewish man wearing a yarmulke.
Mochalova bumped into the man several times, causing a stinging sensation in his right arm, prosecutors alleged – before chillingly telling the man “run away from here. I have a gun. I’m going to shoot you.”
The man was later treated for lacerations, according to authorities.
Prosecutors also claim that a third potential victim was not harmed after he was Muslim.
Although radical leftist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani is bragging about the “historic lows’ for wurders and shootings in the city, hate crimes have jumped by nearly 13%. Although Jewish New Yorkers make up only 10% of the city’s population, more than half of the confirmed hate crimes were anti-Jewish.

Brazilian financial markets plunged on Monday morning following the apparent re-election of left-wing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The country’s stock exchange was forced to suspend trading after suffering devastating losses.
CNBC reports that the benchmark Ibovespa index collapsed 10 percent shortly after opening, triggering an automatic 30-minute trading halt designed to prevent further panic.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s currency, the real, plunged approximately 12 percent against the U.S. dollar, while stock index futures tumbled nearly 15 percent.
The dramatic sell-off followed Lula’s victory lávio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, in Sunday’s presidential runoff.
Lula is said to have secured 51.8 percent of the vote against Bolsonaro’s 48.2 percent, mysteriously defying polls and first-round voting trends.
Investors had been betting heavily on Bolsonaro, whose first-round lead earlier this month sparked a rally in Brazilian stocks and strengthened the currency.
Brazilian companies also suffered enormous losses in overseas trading, with an exchange-traded fund tracking Brazilian equities plunging more than 26 percent in pre-market trading in New York.
Major financial institutions were among the hardest hit, with shares in Itaú and Bradesco falling approximately 28 percent and 25 percent respectively in early U.S. trading.
The turmoil extended to government bonds, prompting Brazil’s Treasury to cancel two scheduled debt auctions later this week.
Investors are particularly concerned about Lula’s spending policies and the country’s deteriorating public finances, with government debt already exceeding 82 percent of GDP.
The market collapse represents an extraordinary reversal after financial markets had rallied strongly in anticipation of a Bolsonaro presidency.

There is also a serious risk of political turmoil after Bolsonaro refused to concede and demanded that the result be annulled.
Bolsonaro had won the first round by more than two million votes and led in nearly all opinion polls, only for Lula to emerge with 51.8 percent in the runoff.
This required a staggering 10 million vote swing, which is possible but statistically improbable.
He is also challenging the decision to extend voting by two hours, a decision granted by Lula’s left-wing allies on the Supreme Court.
