far left Judge Arthur Engoron fleeced $355 million from President Trump for taking out loans in New York State and paying them back on time and with interest. The charges were brought against Trump by crazed New York State Attorney General Letitia James. There were no victims in the so-called crime. The banks did their due diligence before they loaned Donald Trump the money and testified they would gladly do it again.

The non-jury Soviet-style show trial played out in court for eleven weeks. Judge Engoron delayed the verdict to mid-February after he demanded information about possible perjury by Trump Org. CFO Allen Weisselberg at the eleventh hour.

Judge Engoron called Trump’s loan agreements a crime and ruled that President Donald Trump owed the state $355 million.

But that’s not all. As Volokh Conspiracy reported Engoron also put a Clinton-appointed judge in control of Trump business empire in New York State:

Judge Engoron also appointed retired U.S. District Judge Barbara Jones to continue in her role as an “independent monitor” of the Trump business empire but expanded her authority to review financial disclosures before they are submitted to third parties. Judge Jones can hire an independent director of compliance, and she has the authority to compel Trump to sell some or even all of his businesses down the road. This is all punishment for Trump allegedly committing fraud by falsely in inflating and deflating the value of his real estate assets to pay lower state taxes and to receive more favorable loans from banks.

This is the definition of tyranny. New York state just stole President Trump’s company from him because they don’t like his politics.

Judge Arthur Engoron, a committed Democrat, has ruled repeatedly against Trump in the three years he’s been presiding over James’ lawsuit. According to the AP he’s forced Trump to sit for a deposition, held him in contempt and fined him $110,000.

According to reports, Judge Engoron has been married three times and has four children.

But Arthur Engoron is no boy scout. He’s just a weirdo and a seemingly sexually deviant old man.

Recently Engeron came under scrutiny for posting half-naked photos of himself on an alumni newsletter he oversees.

The peculiar “BonusTorsoPhoto” showcased a malnourished torso, presumed to be his own, and left many questioning the appropriateness of such content in a school alumni newsletter.

Mitch McConnell, 82, will step down as the Senate Republican leader in November.

McConnell is expected to announce on Wednesday.

“One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next chapter,” he said in prepared remarks obtained by The Associated Press. “So I stand before you today … to say that this will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate.”

Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving Senate leader in history who maintained his power in the face of dramatic convulsions in the Republican Party for almost two decades, will step down from that position in November.

McConnell, who turned 82 last week, was set to announce his decision Wednesday in the well of the Senate, a place where he looked in awe from its back benches in 1985 when he arrived and where he grew increasingly comfortable in the front row seat afforded the party leaders.

McConnell is stepping down amid multiple freezing episodes.

As TGP’s Kristinn Taylor reported, McConnell suffered a concussion and a broken bone after a fall last March. He was hospitalized and did a stint in rehab before returning to the Senate in mid-April.

McConnell was holding a press conference in Covington, Kentucky in September when he went into a catatonic state.

Mitch McConnell temporarily froze and was unable to speak. An aide came to his rescue and promptly ended the press conference.

McConnell became unresponsive and stared blankly during a Senate press conference.

A Capitol physician suggested McConnell is experiencing small seizures due to dehydration.

“I have consulted with Leader McConnell and conferred with his neurology team. After evaluating yesterday’s incident, I have informed Leader McConnell that he is medically clear to continue with his schedule as planned. Occasional lightheadedness is not uncommon in concussion recovery and can also be expected as a result of dehydration,” Capitol physician Brian Monahan said in a statement in September.

Senator Rand Paul was not buying the “dehydration” explanation.

“I think it’s an inadequate explanation to say this is dehydration… Well, I practiced medicine for 25 years and it doesn’t look like dehydration to me, it looks like a focal neurologic event,’” Rand Paul, a physician said to reporters last year.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Air Force member Aaron Bushnell set himself on fire outside of the Israeli embassy on Sunday.

Bushnell recorded the act of self-immolation and, in the video, stated, “I am an active duty member of the United States Air Force, and I will no longer be complicit in genocide. I’m about to engage in an extreme act of protest. But, compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it’s not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal.”

He proceeded to light himself on fire and shout, “Free Palestine.”

Days after Bushnell took his life, The Intercept analyzed Bushnell’s social media profiles and was able to link the Reddit account acebush1 to Bushnell.

After analyzing Bushnell’s Reddit account, The Intercept concluded Bushnell “grew disillusioned with the U.S. military and his own role as a service member.”

Posts on his account revealed Bushnell was ideologically an anarchist who called for both the U.S. military and police to be disarmed.

In one comment on Reddit, a post from Bushnell read, “Common sense gun control should mean “disarming the police and military first.”

In a separate subreddit, Bushnell wrote that cults are a result of “whiteness,” and in another subreddit, he posted a photo with a graphic that read, “No God, No Boss, No Husband, No State.”

His disdain towards “colonizers” and “Democracy” was also present in his Reddit posts:

In a jarring post on the subreddit Anarchy4Everyone, Bushnell wrote, “Jesus can f*** off with his demagoguery.”

A month later, the 25-year-old Air Force service member commented on the AntifascistofReddit page and gave his take on the war in Gaza.

It appears Bushnell was ready to leave the Air Force because a social media post he wrote on r/Anarchism read, “on the way out.”

In a concerning post in the r/Air Force, the 25-year-old airman shared he wasn’t fond of being told what to do by leadership and shared how he was tired of saluting Colonels.

Per The Intercept:

In the months leading up to Bushnell’s act of self-immolation, several of acebush1’s posts showed how sharply their view of the military had shifted. On the r/Airforce subreddit, a user asked veterans whether, in hindsight, they would still choose to join the military. Acebush1 answered, “Absolutely not.”

“I have been complicit in the violent domination of the world,” they said, “and I will never get the blood off my hands.”

The Intercept analysis linked the acebush1 Reddit account to Bushnell by analyzing his social media activity. In a post on Facebook the same day as his self-immolation, Bushnell had posted a link to the video streaming platform Twitch with the username LillyAnarKitty. Using a Twitch username history tool that identifies a user’s prior account names, The Intercept found that the same Twitch User ID number used by LillyAnarKitty previously employed the handle acebush1.

A Reddit user with the same username — acebush1 — posted over a thousand times since 2014. The Reddit posts mention details that align closely with Bushnell’s life, including being in the Air Force, having a friend who was a conscientious objector, and studying computer science.

Another concerning post from Bushnell was his “OhNoAnyway” reaction to three U.S. Army reserves who were killed in a drone attack in Jordan.

It seems that Bushnell did not…cover himself in glory on Reddit.

Hunter Biden on Wednesday arrived on Capitol Hill today for his closed-door deposition before Congress in part of the Republican impeachment process against Joe Biden.

Hunter will testify today before the House Oversight and Judiciary committees.

“I am here today to provide the Committees with the one uncontestable fact that should end the false premise of this inquiry: I did not involve my father in my business,” Hunter Biden testified Wednesday morning. “Not while I was a practicing lawyer, not in my investments or transactions domestic or international, not as a board member, and not as an artist. Never.”

“You read this fact in the many letters that have been sent to you over the last year as part of your so-called impeachment investigation. You heard this fact when I said it weeks ago, standing outside of this building. You heard this fact from a parade of other witnesses – former colleagues and business partners of mine, including my uncle – who have testified before you in similar proceedings. And now, today, you hear this fact directly from me,” he continued in his opening statement.

Hunter Biden made a similar carefully crafted statement about his father in December as he gave an unprecedented press conference on Capitol Hill.

“My father was not financially involved in my business,” Hunter Biden said in December.

“Let me state as clearly as I can. My father was not financially involved in my business. Not as a practicing lawyer. Not as a board member of Burisma. Not in my partnership with a Chinese private businessman. Not in my investments at home nor abroad and certainly not an artist,” Hunter said in remarks on Capitol Hill in December.

Hunter was careful to specifically say his father was never ‘financially’ involved in his business.

On Wednesday, he was careful to say he ‘didn’t involve’ his father in his business.

Joe Biden was heavily involved in his son Hunter’s overseas business.

Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s longtime friend and business associate, appeared before the House Oversight Committee over the summer to testify on the Biden Crime Family.

Here are some key takeaways from Devon Archer’s testimony per the House Oversight Committee:

When Joe Biden was Vice President of the United States, he joined Hunter Biden’s dinners with his foreign business associates in person or by speakerphone over 20 times.
Devon Archer testified that the value of adding Hunter Biden to Burisma’s board was “the brand” and confirmed that then-Vice President Joe Biden was “the brand” and that the 20 phone calls were to sell “the brand.”
Devon Archer admitted that “Burisma would have gone out of business if ‘the brand’ had not been attached to it.” Because of the Bidens’ involvement, people would have been intimidated to mess with Burisma legally.
In December 2015, Mykola Zlochevsky, the owner of Burisma, and Vadym Pozharski, an executive of Burisma, placed constant pressure on Hunter Biden to get help from D.C. regarding the Ukrainian prosecutor, Viktor Shokin. Shokin was investigating Burisma for corruption.
Hunter Biden, along with Zlochevsky and Pozharski, “called D.C.” to discuss the matter. Biden, Zlochevsky, and Pozharski stepped away to make the call. This raises concerns that Hunter Biden was in violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
Joe Biden was dialed into a dinner in Paris with a French energy company and in China with Jonathan Li, the CEO of BHR. Then-VP Biden also had coffee with Li in Beijing and even wrote a letter of recommendation for college for Li’s daughter.
Archer confirmed Joe Biden was referred to as “my guy” by Hunter Biden.
In 2014, then-VP Biden attended a business dinner with Hunter & his associates at Café Milano in D.C. Elena Baturina, a Russian oligarch who is the widow of the former mayor of Moscow, was an attendee. Notably, the Biden Admin’s public sanctions do not contain Baturina.

It should also be noted the Burisma founder Mykola Zlochevsky held 17 audio tapes, 15 with Hunter and 2 with Joe Biden, he kept as an insurance policy.

Per RNC Research, Joe Biden met with Hunter’s business associates over at least a dozen times.

Hunter Biden’s investment vehicle Owasco made DIRECT payments (screenshots below) to Joe Biden, according to newly obtained bank records.

Millions of dollars from China were funneled to Hunter Biden’s investment vehicle Owasco.

In one instance, Hunter and Joe Biden threatened a Chinese business associate – pay up or else!

“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight. And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my directions. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.”

A few weeks later Hunter Biden received a $5 million wire from a Chinese firm.

On August 8, 2017, $5 million was wired from a CEFC-affiliated investment vehicle (Northern International) to the bank account for Hudson West III, which spent the next year transferring $4,790,375 million directly to Hunter Biden’s firm, Owasco.

Hunter Biden arrives for his closed door deposition before Congress on his family’s years of grifting foreign officials in pay for play scheme.

Hunter Biden arrived on Capitol Hill today for his closed door deposition before Congress in part of the Republican impeachment process against his father.

Hunter will testify today before the House Oversight and Judiciary committees. Republicans have investigated numerous bank statements that place President Biden’s second son and crack addict at the very center of their impeachment inquiry. Congress alleges Hunter and his father engineered an elaborate web of lucrative, overseas business ventures that leaned heavily on Joe Biden’s international influence. Joe Biden, his brothers, his son, and family members have benefited financially from those shady arrangements.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) alleges that just one Suspicious Activity Report (SARS) on the Biden family’s finances that she reviewed at the Treasury Department earlier this year involved “tens of millions of dollars and then some.”

The Biden family has done well for themselves selling access to Old Joe.

Professor Jonathan Turley on Wednesday described how serious Hunter’s testimony is today for the future of the Biden family enterprise.

Jonathan Turley: this is the moment of truth that a lot of people have been waiting for. This is not a place where you can easily spin if you are inaccurate. If you run truthful, you can end up with federal charges and a brand new statute of limitations running, and he has a really precarious road ahead. I don’t know what some of his answers will be. We expect that he’s going to fall back on the fact that he was an addict, that his memory is not great. But the House committee has money transfers and emails that clearly show influence peddling going on, and he’s going to have to answer some of those questions. I think at the outset, they’re likely to drill down on what we all pretty much know, that President Biden lied when he said that he did not know anything about his son’s dealings. Hunter Biden himself contradicted that earlier. And while I might try to spin it a bit, I think he’s probably going to have to contradict his father.

Hunter Biden will be behind closed doors for several hours today testifying before Congress.
Democrats are likely already working on their response to this trainwreck.

Joe Biden’s verbal and mental blunders have been evident for anyone watching him to see for a number of years already.

Call on a member of Congress who’s dead? No problem. Relate conversations with foreign leaders, who were dead at the time? No problem. Recall train stories that could not have happened? No problem. Relate those stories again, and again. No problem.

Then a special counsel report explained he likely willfully and knowingly took classified documents to which he was not entitled and kept them in his home, a private office, even a garage. But the report recommended no charges because a jury would view him as an elderly man with “diminished” capabilities and be sympathetic.

Now it is former aides to Barack Obama, for whom Biden was vice president, who are expressing concern over the levels of “frail” and “mumbly” to which Biden has descended.

The New York Post reported Jon Favreau, the chief speechwriter for Obama when Biden was VP, said, “If you watch Joe Biden speak, oftentimes he sounds frail and he sounds more frail than he used to, even in 2019 and 2020.

“The voice sounds frail, and he shuffles more because of the arthritis in his back,” Favreau said.

And, he said, Biden appears “mumbly.”

Polls already are showing that some 8 in 10 Americans have concerned about Biden’s age, at 81, and his cognitive ability.

Favreau suggested Biden needs to disprove concerns over his gaffes and blunders by appearing on camera more often, and not to do that will make the impression even worse.

“When world events seem like they are overtaking him and he’s not out there enough forcefully, that’s what’s getting people concerned,” Favreau argued.

Podcast co-host Jon Lovett, another ex-Obama speechwriter, agreed and argued that the Biden campaign should get the president out in public to demonstrate his mental and physical abilities — even if they are concerned that he will make more gaffes.

The comments were made during an episode of “Pod Save America.”

Favreau explained, “I’m sure that going out there means more missteps … more gaffes that start circulating, but if you don’t view Biden being out there as a net positive, then the argument he shouldn’t be running is right.”

Former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett said Biden should be out in the public to demonstrate his abilities, and Dan Pfeiffer, another former adviser to Obama, said in separate interview with the Courier the issue of Biden’s competency is “very real.”

Pfeiffer said the issue of age should be Biden’s “first strategic priority” because there’s already a segment of the voters who have decided, based on what they’ve seen from him, he’s “too old for the job and can’t do it.”

Former Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod said the Biden campaign should play up Biden’s “personality.”

He suggested Biden use his well-known temper to hit President Donald Trump, the likely GOP candidate, with “short phrases with Biden-esque” words.

The Washington Examiner noted the Obama employees who worked directly with Biden when he was VP say he appears to have deteriorated.

Some Democrats say his age gives Biden additional wisdom, and they’ve even used projection to try to turn concern toward Trump’s mental abilities.

Of course, when questions were raised during Trump’s presidency, he took, and aced, a cognitive test. Biden has refused to even consider taking one, telling a critic, “Why should I?”

When I was 24, my parents sat me down and confessed, with a heavy heart, that due to infertility, I was begotten by a random sperm donor via intrauterine insemination (IUI). I thought my entire life that I was French-Canadian, but a DNA test revealed I was mostly of Irish heritage. 

My origin story is relevant because it provides me with unique insight into the Twitter topic du jour: the Alabama Supreme Court just ruled that destroying frozen embryos amounts to wrongful death of a child. The biggest hospital in Alabama has suspended all in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments, IUI’s petri-dish ally, which produce many such embryos.

Now, Democrats are using IVF as a stick to whack Republicans. I don’t blame them: It’s a political winner. Polls show that 78 percent of voters who identify as “pro-life” support IVF, and even 60 percent of Republican women believe fertility treatments should be covered by health insurance. 

It’s mainly observant Catholics who are against IVF as a constituency. The Church teaches that children have the right to be conceived, carried in the womb, brought into the world, and brought up within marriage. IVF separates the procreative purpose of the marital act from its unitive purpose, which the Church believes should always be intertwined. For them, it’s about human dignity. 

More gravely—and more relevant to the actual substance of the Alabama ruling—if you believe that life begins at conception, then destroying an embryo is equivalent to the taking of human life. This matters because 12–15 embryos are typically produced and cast aside as “sub-optimal” for each in vitro treatment. The National Catholic Register calculates that “over 2.5 million human beings” are “either killed or frozen in a single year in [America] to fuel this sordid industry.”

Here’s the thing, though: If this sordid industry didn’t exist, neither would I.

Were I to advocate for the strict interpretation of religious doctrines on this matter, it would suggest that my very existence is a sinful error that should not have occurred, a slap in God’s face. Of course, I know that the moral context of one’s conception does not dictate the worth or authenticity of their life; while one may born as the result of a rape, for example, it does not mean they they can’t condemn rape. So I should be allowed to condemn IVF, right? 

The Catholic position is a rejection of consequentialism—the notion that the ends justify the means. Rejecting the liceity of certain means does not, in turn, obligate us to disavow the good that may emerge from them. Consider, say, the historical example of the Mongol invasions. These conquests, undeniably bloody and brutal in their execution, reshaped the contours of the known world. Yet, it is a historical fact that a significant portion of today’s global population—some 5 percent—can trace their lineage back to these very invasions. To acknowledge the savagery of these events is not to wish nonexistence upon their descendants. Indeed, to do so would be a grave moral error.

This perspective allows us to hold two truths simultaneously: We can recognize the Mongol invasions for the cataclysmic episodes they were, causing untold suffering and reshaping civilizations in ways that were often violent and destructive. And yet, we can—and must—also acknowledge the inherent moral value of those who live today, descendants of this tumultuous history. I myself have 0.2% Mongol blood, according to my DNA test. 

But the Mongol invasions don’t matter in practical politics, whereas how we deal with life, birth, tech, and the rest is a live issue. We have to talk about IVF because we have to do something about it; we could act well, or badly, coherently or haphazardly, but we must act. Nothing we can do about Genghis Khan, on the other hand. “Rejecting consequentialism” cannot mean “rejecting debate & persuasion, coalition politics & tech policy on urgent issues.”

As a pragmatist and shrewd political operator, this is something Donald Trump realizes (although I am not sure he could define “consequentialism” if pressed). Hoping to put out this political fire before it spreads from Alabama to the swing states, on Friday, Trump released a statement calling for the Alabama legislature to enshrine the availability of IVF in law, decreeing on Truth Social that “the Republican Party will always support the creation of strong, thriving, healthy families.… I strongly support the availability of IVF for couples who are trying to have a precious baby.” His messaging filtered down to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which then released a statement confirming that “it is imperative that our candidates align with the public’s overwhelming support for IVF and fertility treatment.… [We] encourage Republican Senate candidates to clearly and concisely reject efforts by the government to restrict IVF.”

While Republicans are now loudly embracing IVF, they are explicitly making the Machiavellian tradeoff to compromise on their base’s supposedly-core beliefs in exchange for votes—what percentage of Republicans who support IVF also paradoxically believe that life begins at conception, and how do they square that circle? How do they deal with the cognitive dissonance? Do they feel guilt and shame over condemning millions of “sub-optimal” embryos every year to death? Why do the Catholics among them feel comfortable defying the Pope? Life is messy.

IVF suffers from all the defects of the liberal ideology of Progress; it’s believed to be available, but actually it’s very pricey and uncertain. It is neither quite magic nor really a bullet. It’s the hope and despair of professional women in middle management; a cynic might point out that Google and Facebook pay their female employees to freeze their eggs because it is profitable to convince productive employees to put off motherhood. They lie to them and say it will all work itself out at the age of 45—keep coding, honey! This is propaganda against nature, persuading a generation of collegiate women that they’re not losing fertility every day after they turn 20. At the highest level, IVF is part of the modern idea of science, where experiments in controlled circumstances replace experience. 

By embracing IVF, the Republican stance reflects a shift towards progressivism, underscoring the notion that progress, once set in motion, is difficult to reverse (or at least, that Republicans have historically been impotent at stopping or reversing it). Just as there is now no going back on IVF, there is also no going back on gay marriage, civil rights, demographic replacement, or my science-assisted conception. What’s done is done. It turns out that paying techies to implant an embryo doesn’t do away with guilt, shame, uncertainty, and everything that makes it possible for us to learn, our suffering.

Another illegal alien was arrested for raping a child.

An illegal alien from Honduras was arrested in Louisiana for raping a 14-year-old girl and stabbing a man during a robbery.

19-year-old Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana raped a minor teen at knifepoint on February 20 and stabbed a man multiple times in the face and neck on February 25, according to police.

According to Kenner police, Castellanos-Orellana was terrorizing the neighborhood for nearly one month.

WVUE reported:

A 19-year-old Honduran man has been arrested in Kenner following a series of violent crimes, according to police.

The Kenner Police Department says the investigation began on Tues., Feb. 20 when it was notified of a rape of a 14-year-old girl at knifepoint.

Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana was identified as the suspect. Police say Castellanos-Orellana was in the United States illegally.

On Sun., Feb. 25, around 3:15 a.m., police responded to reports of a stabbing in the 2600 block of Phoenix Street.

Police say a man was getting out of his vehicle and approached by Castellanos-Orellana, demanding his property. During the robbery, police say Castellanos-Orellana stabbed the victim multiple times in his face and his back. The victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Officers at the scene found Castellanos-Orellana covered in blood.

He was arrested and booked on one count each of armed robbery, aggravated battery, first degree rape, and aggravated assault. A Federal “ICE” detainer was issued for Castellanos-Orellana as well.

Chief Keith Conley says undocumented immigrants are difficult to identify due to the lack of documentation. Castellanos-Orellana reportedly used aliases in the past, including Elven Locket.

Rep. Dan Goldman spews the talking points to the press before Hunter’s testimony.

Hunter Biden arrived on Capitol Hill today for his closed door deposition before Congress in part of the Republican impeachment process against his father.

Hunter will testify today before the House Oversight and Judiciary committees. Republicans have investigated numerous bank statements that place President Biden’s second son and crack addict at the very center of their impeachment inquiry. Congress alleges Hunter and his father engineered an elaborate web of lucrative, overseas business ventures that leaned heavily on Joe Biden’s international influence. Joe Biden, his brothers, his son, and family members have benefited financially from those shady arrangements.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) alleges that just one Suspicious Activity Report (SARS) on the Biden family’s finances that she reviewed at the Treasury Department earlier this year involved “tens of millions of dollars and then some.”

Democrats are already with their talking points.  Rep. Dan Goldman accused Republican leaders working for Russia before Hunter’s depo.

Dan Goldman: It is not simply there’s no connection to the president, which we’ve known all along and which was made clear again, but there is a very understandable, coherent business explanation for every single thing that they ask for. And now that all of this China stuff or Romania or Kazakhstan is clearly, clearly baseless and bogus, the only thing that the Republicans have left are these Burisma allegations, which we now know were completely made up by their source, who’s now been indicted because he was working with Russian intelligence to interfere in our election. And so let’s be very clear, because that is the only basis to move forward with an impeachment inquiry. If this impeachment inquiry continues, then chairman Comer and chairman Jordan are working with Russia to interfere in the November 2024 election on behalf of Vladimir Putin, in for the benefit of Donald Trump. That is what this has been reduced to now.

French President Emmanuel Macron made a faux pas while talking to reporters this week on the sidelines of meetings in Paris with two dozen other European leaders regarding the state of the Ukraine war.

“We should not exclude that there might be a need for security that then justifies some elements of deployment,” Macron said. “But I’ve told you very clearly what France maintains as its position, which is a strategic ambiguity that I stand by.”

The French president admitted there is “no consensus” on the circumstances where Western nations might send troops to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reaffirmed the position of NATO and the West regarding troop deployment has not changed. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said, “support does not include the presence of troops from European or Nato states on Ukrainian territory.” When documents outlining the topics of discussion for the Paris meeting circulated, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico broke his silence. “These topics,” he said, “imply that a number of NATO and EU member states are considering sending troops to Ukraine on a bilateral basis.” It’s enough to “send[ ] shivers down your spine.”

The White House released a statement saying, “President Biden has been clear that the US will not send troops to fight in Ukraine.” U.S. diplomats were also present in Paris this week. 

The Kremlin responded to Macron’s remarks, suggesting that such brazen involvement would guarantee a wider war. “In this case, we would need to talk not about its likelihood, but about its inevitability,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

But Russia has been relatively patient with the West’s involvement in the Ukraine war, considering the circumstances. Leaked documents in April 2023 revealed that a number of Western countries have special forces on the ground. At the time, the U.K. had the most special forces personnel, 50, on the ground. Latvia had 17, France 15, and the U.S. 14. 

The U.K. Ministry of Defense cried misinformation: “Readers should be cautious about taking at face value allegations that have the potential to spread misinformation.” Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the Department of Justice had opened an investigation into the leak. “We will continue to investigate and turn over every rock until we find the source of this and the extent of it,” Austin claimed. Shortly thereafter, the U.S. arrested Jack Teixeira of the Massachusetts Air National Guard.

Nearly a year later, Russia has Ukraine on the ropes. Ukraine’s counteroffensive failed. It has burned through nearly all its young men—the average age of a Ukrainian soldier is in the forties. Yet, western aid has continued to flow. How many more service members have accompanied that aid?
