Steve Bannon: “I Served My Country on a Navy Ship. I’ll Serve My Country as a Political Prisoner — I’ll Do Whatever It Takes to Win This Revolution” (VIDEO)

Tucker Carlson interviews Steve Bannon, host of The War Room

Tucker Carlson spoke with Steve Bannon, the host of “The War Room” on RAV TV, following his recent prison sentencing.

Bannon was ordered to serve time beginning July 1, 2024, after refusing to testify before Liz Cheney’s sham January 6 Committee.

Bannon committed the exact same act that Attorney General Eric Holder did 11 years earlier. Steve Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison. Unlike Bannon, Holder, a Democrat, faced no prison time for a similar refusal.

Bannon will serve his time from July 1 through October, four months leading up to the US presidential election. This is the latest example of criminal election interference by the Biden regime.

Steve Bannon spoke with Tucker Carlson on Tuesday.

“If you’re wondering whether you’re living in tyranny, ask yourself how many of his political opponents Joe Biden is sending to prison. Steve Bannon is the latest,” Tucker Carlson wrote on X.

The entire transcript from the interview is posted at TuckerCarlson.com.

During the interview, Tucker asked Steve if he was concerned about going to prison.

Here is his response:

Tucker Carlson: “You were prosecuted. Now you’re being persecuted for your politics. But first, a personal question. I just read this morning. You saying you’re fine with it? You’re not afraid. For most people, going to prison is the scariest possible thing that could happen. That’s why it’s a punishment. How do you feel about it? And why are you calm?”

Steve Bannon: “I spent in my 20s. I spent, what, almost four years on a Navy destroyer in the North Arabian Sea, Persian Gulf, western Pacific, South China Sea. So in my 20s, I, served my country on a Navy destroyer. In my 70s, I’ll serve my country in a federal prison. It doesn’t make any difference. Won’t change my life one way. I don’t have a big social agenda.

“I’m dedicated to this work of saving my country. And if, if I have to be a political prisoner, I’ll be a political prisoner… Remember this. This is a misdemeanor. When we were in the federal courthouse, the guy that ran the federal courthouse said, he said, and I think he’d been there 30 or 40 years. He told one of my guys he had never remembered a misdemeanor ever being prosecuted. He says they’re so backed up with felonies… He said he’s never seen a misdemeanor ever gone to trial.”

On Kevin McCarthy:

Steve Bannon: “Tucker, I think even with the ABC TV producer that came in the January 6th thing kind of flopped because Cassidy Hutchinson couldn’t be, you know, Nancy Pelosi when Jim Banks, the great Jim Banks and Jim Jordan were the two they’re supposed to be on there. And Nancy Pelosi told told McCarthy no. And Kevin, for whatever reason, just agree to that. And that’s why they never had a committee.

“You just had you had crying Kinzinger and you had Cheney, who have both been outed from Congress, were the Republicans. Everybody else. There was no ranking member since she saw Jim Banks, his name, who will soon be in the US Senate from Indiana. And Jim Jordan was head of judiciary. She has told him no. And forever for strategic reason. They made they went along with it. So the other challenge I’ve got is the very structure, the committee which the trial judge kind of struggled with. So I believe that has to go to the Supreme Court.”

On his sentencing and serving his country:

Steve Bannon: “But July 1st, Hey, I served my country on a Navy ship, I’ll serve my country as a political prisoner, in a federal prison for a misdemeanor. I don’t bat one eye. I’ll do whatever, whatever it takes to win this revolution, whatever we have to do.”

Convicted Felon Hunter Biden Drops Lawsuit Against Rudy Giuliani and Former NYC Mayor’s Ex-Lawyer Following Recent Conviction

Hunter Biden, the convicted felon son of Joe Biden, is dropping his lawsuit against former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Robert Costello, the former lawyer of the ex-New York City mayor. The lawsuit accused them of manipulating data found on Biden’s infamous laptop from hell.

In September 2023, Hunter Biden filed a civil lawsuit in a federal court in California against Rudy Giuliani and his former lawyer, Robert Costello, claiming they violated state and federal computer privacy laws when they ‘hacked into’ his laptop.

The lawsuit alleges Giuliani and Costello spent years “hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over data that they were given that was taken or stolen from” his laptops.

“Plaintiff has demanded Defendants Giuliani and Costello cease their unlawful activities with respect to Plaintiff’s data and return any data in their possession belonging to Plaintiff, but they have refused to do so,” attorneys for Hunter Biden wrote in the lawsuit, according to CNN.

“Defendants’ statements suggest that their unlawful hacking activities are ongoing today and that, unless stopped, will continue into the future, thereby necessitating this action.”

The suit sought more than $75,000 in damages, plus attorneys’ fees and other penalties.

Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, filed the stipulation for dismissal on Thursday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. The document requested the court to dismiss the lawsuit against Giuliani and Robert Costello “without prejudice, with each party bearing its own attorneys’ fees, costs, and expenses,” according to the New York Post.

The newsoutlet added that court documents reveal that attorneys for all three parties have agreed to this stipulation, according to NBC News.

Giuliani’s legal representative, Joe Sibley, responded to the dismissal, heralding it as a “vindication” for his client.

“This dismissal – along with Hunter Biden’s conviction based on evidence taken from the laptop – is a vindication for Mr. Giuliani and Mr. Costello as well as all of the media outlets who broke the laptop story in 2020 and suffered orchestrated censorship by social media, the leftist mainstream media, and others who engaged in election interference,” Sibley told The Post.

Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop, long dismissed by the liberal media as a product of Russian disinformation, was used as a key piece of evidence in Hunter’s high-profile gun charges trial, where he was found guilty of three felony charges. The laptop was confirmed to be authentic by an FBI agent involved in the case.

New York Post’s Miranda Devine wrote, “[FBI agent Erika Jensen] confirmed it was Hunter’s laptop from the serial number on the back that corresponds to his iCloud identity. She said the laptop was obtained by the FBI with a subpoena from The Mac Shop in Wilmington, where it had been “abandoned” by Hunter.”

In 2019, Hunter Biden dropped off his damaged laptops at a Delaware computer repair shop run by John Paul Mac Isaac.

John Paul Mac Isaac’s life changed in April 2019 when a visibly drunk Hunter Biden stopped by his computer repair shop with three damaged MacBook Pro laptops.

One was destroyed beyond repair, and he gave that back to Hunter.

The other required a keyboard that he loaned to Hunter. He never got that keyboard back. The third laptop Hunter left with Mac Isaac to fix. Hunter Biden never returned to John Paul Mac Isaac’s repair shop to retrieve his property.

After many failed attempts to reach Hunter Biden, John Paul Mac Isaac took lawful ownership of Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop.

Pennsylavania Gov. Josh Shapiro Calls Trump Supporters ‘Profoundly and Pathetically Weak People’ (VIDEO)

Josh Shapiro (Screenshot: MSNBC/Youtube)

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has described supporters of Donald Trump as “profoundly and pathetically weak” people who have no allegiance to the United States.

Appearing on MSNBC’s Deadline with Nicolle Wallace, Shapiro boasted about how Pennsylvania courts repeatedly rejected widespread evidence of voter fraud:

When Donald Trump sued us to try to first stop people from voting then had their votes count, he and his allies sued us 42 times. We went 43-0. We had a free and fair, safe and secure election. Then look at the ballot box while Donald Trump squeaked out a victory in 2016 in Pennsylvania by just over 40,000 votes, in every subsequent election, either Donald Trump or his hand picked candidate lost. They lost for governor, hey lost for United States Senate, Hell, they even lost for school board in some cases. This is a guy who has lost every step of the way, yet these people keep following him.

Shapiro went on to slam Senators and other Trump supporters who he claims idolize the former president:

I had to laugh today when some of those senators were like standing up there applauding him. The same people that were saying after January 6th that he didn’t have a place there, that he had stoked violence against them. Now they’re lining up and just showing themselves to be profoundly and pathetically weak people who don’t swear allegiance to a flag, but to Donald Trump.”

They are people who have lost really just the sort of core vision of you know, Reagan’s Republican Party, the Republican Party that you worked for in a really noble and honorable way. That’s all out the window. Now, they just look straight to that one man. A man who has delivered them loss after loss after loss here in Pennsylvania and across the country. Why they continue to follow him in many ways is a reflection on just the weak people that they are more than anything else.

As extensively reported by The Gateway Pundit, Pennsylvania is one of many swing states with rampant levels of voter fraud carried out by Democratic operatives and other individuals working to “game” the electoral system.

During the 2020 presidential election, Joe Biden supposedly won the state by a margin of 80,000 votes, although his “victory” was inevitably the result of widespread fraud. You can read a summary of some of the evidence of Pennsylavania’s voter fraud here.

One in Four Gen Z Job Applicants Bring Parents to Interview: Report

College grads venturing out into the corporate world should, by now, know the ins and outs of the job interview process.

Dress smart. Project confidence. Know how to answer that boilerplate question, “What’s your biggest flaw?” Don’t bring your parents along.

Wait, what? Come again? Yes, it seems the safe-space generation apparently needs mommy and/or daddy to show up as they try to land their dream job.

According to a survey by Resume Templates, 26 percent of those ages 18 to 27 brought along a parent to a job interview — and that’s just the beginning of the disturbing findings from the survey, conducted in April among 1,428 U.S.-based respondents who said they had searched for a job in the last year.

“Gen Z has a reputation for lacking the independence, motivation, and real-world knowledge to contribute in the workplace,” the employment resource provider said in a media release.

That’s putting it mildly.

“Many Gen Z’ers involve their parents in their interview process. In fact, 26 percent of all Gen Zers who have undergone a job search in the past year say that they have taken a parent to an interview,” the media release read.

“Of Gen Z’ers who brought their parent(s), 31 percent had a parent accompany them to an in-person interview, while 29 percent had them join a virtual interview.

“For those who had a parent come to an in-person interview, 37 percent say that their parent accompanied them to the office, 26 percent say their parent physically sat in the interview room, and 18 percent say their parent introduced themselves to the manager. Additionally, 7 percent say their parents answered questions.”

Of those Gen Z’ers who attended virtual interviews, 71 percent said that the parent was off-camera and 29 percent of parents joined Zoom interviews with their children.

There are no words.

Another 24 percent of Gen Z respondents said their parents submitted job applications for them and 18 percent said their parents wrote their resume from scratch for them. (Only 13 percent wrote the cover letter from scratch, thank heavens.)

“The top reasons Gen Z’ers ask their parents to complete and submit their applications include thinking their parents’ work is better (46 percent), not knowing how to communicate with hiring managers (34 percent), being unmotivated (32 percent), and poor mental health (22 percent),” the media release read.

“The number of employment opportunities and complexity of the job market are factors causing Gen Z’ers to seek parental help,” said Andrew Stoner, an executive resume writer for the firm.

“Knowing what a company does, verifying its legitimacy, and understanding what a specific job entails are tasks that can be challenging for someone without any formal work experience. A parent’s help should bolster a child’s development and eventual independence.”

“While a parent writing a resume or cover letter isn’t necessarily an ethical concern, a child should be ready to fully discuss every aspect of their resume with a potential employer,” he added.

“Broadly speaking, Gen Z can become more independent through a healthy partnership; one that is led by a willing parent and develops critical life skills.”

Now, a caveat — while Resume Templates does a great deal of market research into trends in the employment market, it’s also in the business of selling resume services. Furthermore, this appears to be more of an informal survey than a rigorous poll.

That being said, do you know what the number of 18- to 27-year-old job seekers bringing parents to job interviews should be? Zero. Zilch. Nada. No matter how informal the poll, there shouldn’t be a. single. person. who. admits. to. this.

If you have some degree of schooling, you should not need your mom or dad to write your resume. You do not need them to write your cover letter. And you certainly do not need them to sit in an interview with you like you just got caught flushing a cherry bomb down the toilet at your middle school.

Between helicopter parenting, safe-space culture, digital lives replacing life skills, and our culture’s collective tendency to treat maturity and self-reliance as a millstone around one’s neck, it appears we’ve finally raised a generation completely unable to function as autonomous adults.

This isn’t just one of those “kids today!” rants we’ve heard from time immemorial. This time, we’ve really done it. And you don’t need this survey to back this assertion up. Look around you. It takes a village, they say — and our village has raised a generation that knows how to use 86 different Instagram filters but doesn’t know the difference between a man and a woman.

There isn’t a single person on God’s green Earth who should openly admit to bringing a parent along to a job interview. Period. It doesn’t matter if you think their worth is better, they know how to communicate with hiring managers, or your fragile mental health means you just aren’t up to it.

If these are the men and women who will inherit our positions in American enterprise as we move up the corporate ladder — and eventually, one day, take over — we’re thoroughly doomed.

REVEALED: Pentagon Ran Major Psyop Aimed at Discrediting China’s COVID Jabs – Warned Muslims There Was Pork in the Vaccine!

The Pentagon implemented a psychological operation (psyop) aimed at discrediting the safety and efficacy of China’s version of the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to a major investigation by the Reuters news agency, the Pentagon primarily sought to sow doubt about Sinovac, which is China’s version of the COVID-19 vaccine, partly as “payback” for the country’s responsibility in unleashing the pandemic on the entire world.

The report states:

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. military launched a secret campaign to counter what it perceived as China’s growing influence in the Philippines, a nation hit especially hard by the deadly virus.

The clandestine operation has not been previously reported. It aimed to sow doubt about the safety and efficacy of vaccines and other life-saving aid that was being supplied by China, a Reuters investigation found. Through phony internet accounts meant to impersonate Filipinos, the military’s propaganda efforts morphed into an anti-vax campaign. Social media posts decried the quality of face masks, test kits and the first vaccine that would become available in the Philippines – China’s Sinovac inoculation.

Reuters identified at least 300 accounts on X, formerly Twitter, that matched descriptions shared by former U.S. military officials familiar with the Philippines operation. Almost all were created in the summer of 2020 and centered on the slogan #Chinaangvirus – Tagalog for China is the virus.

Having already spread claims that China’s vaccine was neither safe nor effective, the Pentagon then turned to targeting Muslims with suggestions that they contained a form of pork gelatine, thus making them non-compliant with Islamic law.

The report explains:

By summer 2020, the military’s propaganda campaign moved into new territory and darker messaging, ultimately drawing the attention of social media executives. In regions beyond Southeast Asia, senior officers in the U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations across the Middle East and Central Asia, launched their own version of the COVID psyop, three former military officials told Reuters.

Although the Chinese vaccines were still months from release, controversy roiled the Muslim world over whether the vaccines contained pork gelatin and could be considered “haram,” or forbidden under Islamic law. Sinovac has said that the vaccine was “manufactured free of porcine materials.” Many Islamic religious authorities maintained that even if the vaccines did contain pork gelatin, they were still permissible since the treatments were being used to save human life.

The Pentagon campaign sought to intensify fears about injecting a pig derivative. As part of an internal investigation at X, the social media company used IP addresses and browser data to identify more than 150 phony accounts that were operated from Tampa by U.S. Central Command and its contractors, according to an internal X document reviewed by Reuters.

Such revelations are deeply ironic given that the Pentagon and other U.S. agencies have repeatedly warned about the spread of “misinformation” concerning vaccines and other major political issues, such as election fraud and corruption within the Biden regime.

Adding to that irony is the fact that America’s various COVID vaccines were neither safe nor effective themselves. While the jabs may have prevented some cases of serious illness, they did not prevent transmission and are widely reported to have caused a plethora of serious side effects, including heart attacks, blood clots ,and other ailments.

U.S. Department of Commerce Has Plan Already in Place to Digitize the Identities of all Americans Receiving ‘Public Benefits’

Guest post by Leo Hohmann, republished with permission.

Federal ‘Guidelines’ have already been secretly adopted for a Digital ID program that will start off as ‘voluntary’ but only the most gullible Americans would believe that’s anything but temporary.

In the globalist drive toward the creation of a national digital ID for all Americans is well under way, and the first group of citizens to be coerced into accepting a digital ID will be those receiving public benefits of one type or another.

Government healthcare benefits, Veterans’ benefits, Social Security benefits, and of course low-income welfare programs of every type will all be fair game for digital IDs, and the U.S. government is already far down the road to adopting a strategy of digitizing all government-dependent citizens.

It all begins with a little-known program within the U.S. Department of Commerce.

I bet you didn’t know that the federal Commerce Department has a sub-agency called the National Institute of Standards and Technology, NIST for short, and that NIST has already adopted a set of “digital identity guidelines.”

These guidelines are ostensibly designed “to better support public-benefits programs.” Biometric Update reports that these programs assist beneficiaries with essential needs such as food, housing, and medical expenses, and then goes on to explain NIST’s role in digitizing all these government beneficiaries.

As is almost always the case, the federal agency has partners in the private sector to help it fulfill its mission of bringing in the technocratic/biometric beast system designed to replace people’s free will with government mandating every facet of their lives.

Biometric Update writes:

“The project is a collaboration between NIST, Georgetown University’s Beeck Center for Social Impact + Innovation, and the Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT).”

The Commerce Department even has its own staffer whose sole responsibility is to oversee this digitization of public benefits.

“Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director Laurie E. Locascio emphasizes the importance of balancing access and security in benefits delivery. She noted that different populations face varied needs and barriers, which this collaboration aims to address by bringing together diverse communities.

The plan is for the project to utilize NIST’s process of community engagement to gather input from federal partners, state benefit program administrators, IT and cybersecurity leaders, digital identity experts, technologists, advocates, and individuals with direct experience in the public benefits system.”

Do you remember ever voting on this? I don’t. And where is Congress? Why aren’t they involved in more than just a periphery role in something as big and important as the creation of a national digital identification process?

Instead, it looks like the digitalization of America, and the world, is going to be crammed down our throats. It will be up to us to resist.

The Biometric Update article goes on to quote Lynn Overmann, executive director of the Beeck Center, who “highlights the goal of developing human-centered solutions to improve government services, particularly for vulnerable populations.”

Human-centered solutions? That’s a curious choice of words, since these digitalization programs are all driven by artificial intelligence.

The article adds that, “She expresses pride in partnering with NIST and CDT to enhance security, privacy, and equity in benefits applications.”

Yes, it’s always done in the name of protecting the security, privacy and equity of citizens. Rinse and repeat. They all stick to the same script, these globalists. They’ve got to include these lies to give the program the veneer of benevolence. They’re just trying to help us! And anyone who sees anything but the best of intentions in these programs is immediately branded a “conspiracy theorist.”

Ronald Reagan told us 50 years ago that we the people should fear nothing more than a government official showing up in our lives while professing these nine words: “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”

In other words, never trust the government. Thank you Ronald. If you never did anything else of value, you left us with those words of wisdom. Too bad so many of those conservative Americans who canonized you as the personification of conservative sainthood no longer follow that sage advice.

The Biometric article then states:

“The goal is to create voluntary resources for public sector organizations, including a profile of NIST’s Digital Identity Guidelines (Special Publication 800-63), to help evaluate authentication and identity proofing practices for specific benefits.”

Ah, yes, they are always careful to include the obligatory statement that it will all be “voluntary.” Almost every new government program that later morphed into some type of financial, educational, healthcare or workplace tyranny always starts out as voluntary, until it’s not. But that’s how they hook people in.

Alexandra Reeve Givens, president and CEO of CDT, stresses the need for carefully developed identity management solutions focused on equity, privacy, and security. She emphasizes that people should access public benefits without technical barriers or privacy compromises and trust that the systems will function fairly and securely.

Whenever they mention “trust” in the same sentence with government programs, that should be a red flag. Why are they so concerned that we might not trust them? Could it be that they know they have a horrific track record of lies and deceptions throughout history? I think maybe so.

Biometric Update further informs us that last year researchers in the United States examined the way in which authentication and identity proofing is used in the U.S. to give access to public benefits. Of course, these “researchers” are anything but unbiased or disinterested in the outcomes of their so-called “studies,” because they go into the study with the presumption that more technology is always better than less when it comes to serving the public. It’s always “safer” and “more secure” and “more convenient” and “more equitable,” whatever that means, to digitalize a program. The only truthful item on that list is the convenience aspect because, yes, using technology instead of physical paper forms and physical cash is always going to be faster and easier. They know this and use it to their advantage with the ignorant masses, who still haven’t figured out that the government is not their friend and will lie to them whenever it’s advantageous to do so.

So, they put out their fake studies, and then clamor about the “growing call for accountability” safer, more secure and more equitable distribution of public benefits, and eventually the forced digitalization will include private benefits too, such as private bank accounts, your corporate paycheck, your applications for various educational opportunities, etc., it will all be tied into your digital ID.

And then, when as many “volunteers” are signed up as possible, meaning there are no more dumbed-down government-trusting drones willing to digitize themselves, that’s when the voluntary aspect will be yanked out of the equation and they start to remove the carrot and use the stick. Sign up for this digital ID, or else…

Smoking Gun: Rep. Andy Biggs Releases Timeline Proving Biden’s Direct Collusion with Prosecutors to Take Down Trump (VIDEO)

Rep. Andy Biggs

In an explosive revelation, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) disclosed a meticulously detailed timeline during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday, casting a glaring spotlight on a concerted effort between the Biden regime and key prosecutors to undermine former President Donald Trump.

The committee convened on Thursday to dissect the political motivations behind Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s legal actions against Trump.

Per the House Judiciary Committee’s webpage:

“On April 4, 2023, after campaigning on his experience in investigating President Trump and in response to intense pressure from left-wing activists, Bragg charged President Trump with 34 felony counts for falsifying business records. Falsifying business records is ordinarily a misdemeanor subject to a two-year statute of limitations, which would have expired long ago. While Bragg is systematically downgrading most felonies in Manhattan to misdemeanors, he used a novel and untested legal theory—previously declined by federal prosecutors—to upgrade the charges against President Trump to felonies. Bragg’s case against President Trump has beset by due process and procedural irregularities.”

During the hearing, Rep. Andy Biggs presented this timeline as evidence of an orchestrated collusion between the Biden regime and prosecutors to take down Trump.

Biggs suggests that the sequence of events—Biden’s controversial remarks, Trump’s presidential bid announcement, Colangelo’s resignation and subsequent move to Bragg’s office, Smith’s appointment, and Wade’s meetings with White House lawyers—indicate a coordinated effort to prevent Trump from becoming President again.

Timeline of Collusion:

September 9, 2022: President Biden made a divisive comment about ensuring Trump does not become president again, which many interpret as a call to action against Trump’s political future.

November 7, 2022: Trump teases a major announcement, hinting at his potential run in the 2024 election.

November 15, 2022: Trump officially announces his candidacy for the 2024 presidential race.

November 18, 2022: Key events unfold that suggest a coordinated effort to target Trump:

Matthew Colangelo, Joe Biden’s third-highest-ranking DOJ official, resigns and within days, joins Bragg’s office, a move that raises numerous eyebrows regarding its propriety and timing.
On the same day, Attorney General Merrick Garland appoints Jack Smith to oversee federal cases against Trump in a move that coincides suspiciously with other developments.
Nathan Wade, linked to another prosecutor targeting Trump, spends extensive time at the White House, further implicating direct connections.

December 2, 2022: Matthew Colangelo decided to join the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, starting his new position on December 5.

REALLY? Liberal Media Outlets Blame Rising Home Insurance Rates on Climate Change

Climate change. Is there anything it can’t do?

According to liberal media outlets CBS and NBC, the reason that home insurance rates are skyrocketing is climate change, not inflation and the Biden economy.

The amazing thing about this story is that it’s a two-fer for the left. It lets Biden off the hook and promotes climate change at the same time.

NewsBusters reports:

CBS, NBC Find Culprit For Spiking Home Insurance Rates: Climate Change

The Regime Media appear to have settled on a non-Bidenomics or inflation culprit for the ongoing spike in home insurance rates: climate change. CBS and NBC did so immediately after delivering rosy reports on inflation and holding out hope for a single rate cut this year.

Most emblematic of this coverage is NBC’s report, which establishes climate change as a primary culprit of the rise in home ownership costs:

BRIAN CHEUNG: The costs of owning and maintaining a home have soared, up 26% since 2020 according to one analysis. And home insurance is a major piece. That’s up 20%. One of the reasons, climate change. Last year, the United States had a record 28 separate weather and climate disasters costing at least $1 billion, with insurance companies losing money in 16 states. And now many insurers are dropping customers from their policies, sometimes leaving entire states-

The networks will often insert high cost-of-living stories behind reports on the monthly Fed meeting, Consumer Price Index reports, and related rate decisions. Which makes today’s “hide the suck” reports even more interesting.

Even if one believes that climate change may be a reason for spiking home ownership costs, the fact remains that inflation is the primary driver- both seen and unseen.

Newsflash… This is not about climate change.

The significant rise in costs in the insurance industry doesn’t have to do with climate change.

It’s a good cop-out for progressives to use though instead of addressing the real culprits:

A WASP Elegy for George H.W. Bush’s Centenary

A WASP Elegy for George H.W. Bush’s Centenary

They do not make men like that anymore.

Like most people my age, I have few visceral feelings about George H.W. Bush. My parents were late boomers and Reagan Revolutionaries. I was born into the Rolling Stone reader–occupied United States of Bill Clinton, and my very first political memories were of Lewinsky scandal TV coverage. Bush v. McCain (and then Gore) inaugurated electoral politics for me, this great neverending day at the races that I now watch for money.

On the other hand, the elder Bush was just sort of there—a placeholder between Reagan, regarded in the Russo household as a living saint on par with Mother Teresa and the Pope, and Clinton, the child of wrath. “Read my lips,” a handful of verbal gaffes, the incongruous annual parachuting—George H.W. Bush was just a grab-bag of qualities that didn’t really hang together as much in the mind. The main impression from his photographs: a discomfort with smiling. After his son’s accession, even how to refer to him casually was elusive—Bush Sr.? Bush I? H.W.? 41?

Now I’m a little older, and, if not exactly smarter or wiser, I do know more things and have seen more types of people. H.W. is still a slippery character, but a more coherent one in my mind—male, pale, and Yale, a late prince of the Establishment, the Interests, or whatever you want to call that old clubby elite of mostly Northeastern prep schoolers who used to run significant portions of our country. (Although, in a detail often elided among our latter-day apostles of elite theory, less of the country than our current technocrats do.) He was also a man of the incipient deep state—an alleged CIA agent and an actual director of that esteemed organ. As Steve Sailer wrote in these pages earlier this year,

There exists a conspiracy theory that Bush’s oil platforms provided logistical support to the CIA’s Bay of Pigs invasion of nearby Cuba. But this is one of those conspiracy theories that sounds so reasonable—why wouldn’t a Skull & Bones man help out his friends in the Company?—that nobody finds it intriguing.

In that article, Sailer details the intertwining fortunes of the Bush family, their business, their politics, and Mexico. In some ways, it is not unlike Bill Buckley’s family history—and no coincidence. We’re talking about the WASPs here, the people who used to run the Establishment (or the Interests) and, in its early iterations, the deep state. I guess this is the way I think of H.W. now: the sort of person who used to run things, more or less openly but not ostentatiously—you can see them here and there, just out of the corner of your eye.

They weren’t perfect. Their old-fashioned liberalism opened the door to the cultural chaos of the latter half of the 20th century and their own demise; they brought us NAFTA and affirmative action and the collapse of mainstream Protestantism. Yet they were a sort of solution, those people. Bush was a war hero; it was his country to fight for, after all. And would NATO have been transformed into an ideological empire if H.W. had won a second term? I somehow doubt he would have jumped into Bosnia with Clintonian-Albrightian aplomb; certainly his administration’s diplomatic posture was cautious of NATO expansion and conciliatory in outlook toward the former Soviet states. Nor does it seem unimaginable that the man who (by conventional wisdom) got washed out for raising taxes would have met the fiscal conservative moment in Congress. (If you believe we live in the same national system that we did 25 years ago, meditate on the fact that in 1998 a balanced budget amendment was a live political option.) We’re maybe not so enthusiastic about the WASPs as Ross Douthat—I mean, look at the name on this column—but they had their points. On his centenary, I’m inclined to take H.W.’s good along with the bad, of which there is plenty.

When I was in college—another living fossil of WASP civilization, not Yale, but the other one—there was a monumental statue outside the university gates near our subway stop. It was titled “Omphalos,” and, like most products of the 1970s, it was very ugly—a 15- or 20-foot pile of reddish granite that didn’t look like anything in particular. It was removed in my sophomore year following a dispute between the university and the subway authority over who was responsible for its upkeep. Nobody was too sad to see it go, but to me it seemed symbolic in a wistful sort of way. “Omphalos” is the Greek word for a navel; the Omphalos was a belly-button-shaped stone at Delphi—the center of the world and the marker of an oracle’s location. It seemed as if a sign of some divine favor was being taken from someone. Justly, maybe. But the passing of the glory of the world is always a solemn sight. A hundred years from his birth, we can say we will not see H.W.’s like again.
