SoCal Mayor Says He Wants to Eliminate Homelessness by Giving Them ‘All the Fentanyl They Want’

Mayor R. Rex Parris

Mayor R. Rex Parris, a Republican, has sparked controversy by suggesting that the solution to his city’s homelessness crisis is to “give them all the fentanyl they want” and by advocating for a federal “purge” of the homeless population.

During a February 25 city council meeting, Parris responded to a resident’s question about plans to address homelessness by stating, “What I want to do is give them free fentanyl. That’s what I want to do. I want to give them all the fentanyl they want.”

The mayor later clarified in an interview with Fox 11 that his comments targeted the “criminal element” among the homeless, alleging without evidence that they are responsible for a significant portion of local crimes.

“I don’t regret saying it. I’m happy that we’re focusing the attention on an aspect of this problem to want to look at. These people are killing our citizens. Not a lot of them, but some of them. They have no respect for law and order.”

— Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) April 21, 2025

According to Fox News, Parris clarified that his remarks were not meant to be taken “literally,” explaining that fentanyl is already “so easy” to obtain on the streets that offering it for free to homeless individuals would make no real difference.

“Quite frankly, I wish that the president would give us a purge. Because we do need to purge these people,” Parris said.

“Now, is it harsh? Of course, it is harsh. But it’s my obligation as the mayor of the city of Lancaster to protect the hardworking families that live there, and I am no longer able to do it… It’s an untenable situation, and I’m open to any solution… I want these people out of our city.”

“I made it very clear I was talking about the criminal element that were let out of the prisons that have now become 40 to 45% of what’s referred to as the homeless population,” Parris said.

“They are responsible for most of our robberies, most of our rapes, and at least half of our murders… There’s nothing that we can do for these people.”

Fox News report:

The mayor is now facing a recall effort following his comments at the city council meeting, although it has only collected 6% of its goal of 20,000 signatures. He has faced past scrutiny over his controversial moves, including his decision to extend mayoral terms from two years to four.

“For too long, Mayor R. Rex Parris has prioritized personal gain over the well-being of residents. His administration has been marked by mismanagement, controversial policies, and a disregard for transparency,” a recall petition reads.

“Lancaster deserves leadership that listens, serves, and uplifts the community – not one that divides and exploits it,” it adds.

DEVELOPING: Delta Plane Engine Bursts Into Flames at Orlando Airport – Emergency Slides Deployed (VIDEO)

Delta plane engine bursts into flames

The engine of a Delta plane flying from Orlando to Atlanta caught fire on Monday.

Emergency slides were deployed after the plane’s engine caught fire on the tarmac.

All 282 passengers were evacuated. No injuries were reported.

CBS News reported:

A Delta passenger jet caught fire on the tarmac at Orlando International Airport Monday and passengers had to evacuate via the emergency slides, the Federal Aviation Authority said Monday.

Delta Air Lines Flight 1213, bound for Atlanta, was pushing back from the gate for departure at around 11:15 a.m. local time on Monday when an engine caught fire, the FAA said in a statement.

There were no initial reports of injuries.

“The fire was contained and is out,” a spokesperson for the Orlando airport said, adding that fire crews are on the scene.

According to Delta, the plane, an Airbus 330, had 282 passengers, 10 flight attendants and two pilots on board. The airline said crews evacuated the cabin when flames were seen in the tailpipe of one of the plane’s two main engines.

Passengers were seen exiting sliding down the emergency slides.

Construction Photos of Obama Library Receive Harsh Reviews: ‘Looks Like a Prison’

Image: @Obamafoundation/X

The shrine to Barack Obama, aka the Obama library at the Obama Presidential Center (OPC), is still under construction in Chicago.

Photos of the building made the rounds on social media recently, and the building is receiving harsh criticism, with some suggesting the barren, characterless building looks more like a prison than a library.

Biz Pac Review notes that the building, designed by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, features an exterior wrapped in granite panels and is one of “numerous buildings on the massive 19-acre Obama Presidential Center campus, which has been priced at about $830 million by the Associated Press.”

OPC has faced multiple controversies since its announcement.

The decision to build the OPC on 19.3 acres in Jackson Park, a historic public park on the National Register of Historic Places, sparked opposition from environmentalists and preservationists who raised concerns over the environmental impact of the project.

In January 2025, a Black-owned subcontractor filed a $40 million racial discrimination lawsuit against Thornton Tomasetti, the project’s structural engineering firm, alleging racial discrimination.

The Chicago-based subcontractor, Robert McGee, is suing Thornton Tomasetti, the firm that oversees the engineering of the OPC.

According to the lawsuit, Thornton Tomasetti created new rules for rebar spacing, which impacted Robert McGee’s productivity and cost him millions of dollars.

According to Newsweek, the OPC has also been plagued by rising costs and delays. Initially budgeted at $350–500 million, the project’s cost has ballooned to $830 million and could surge past $1 billion.
Construction was supposed to begin in 2018 but was delayed to 2021.

Longtime Republican Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell is now fighting for her life after being brutally stabbed in her own home by her own grandson—a senseless and tragic act that also claimed the life of her beloved husband, Fred Mitchell.

The shocking attack took place in the early hours of Monday morning in Lewisville, Texas.

Police say the suspect, 23-year-old Mitchell Blake Reinacher, used a serrated kitchen knife to carry out the heinous assault.

Officers responded to a 911 call just before 4 a.m. and arrived within five minutes to find both victims suffering from grievous stab wounds.

Fred Mitchell died from his injuries shortly after 5 a.m., while Commissioner Mitchell underwent emergency surgery and is now in stable condition.

According to the press release:

“This morning, at approximately 3:53 a.m., Lewisville Police Department officers responded to a report of an assault in progress in the 1000 block of Springwood Drive.

Upon arrival, officers located two adult victims—a male and a female—both suffering from apparent stab wounds.

The suspect, a family member of the victims, was still on scene and was immediately taken into custody without incident.

Lewisville Fire Department personnel rendered aid and transported both victims to area hospitals.

The female victim has been identified as Bobbie J. Mitchell, Denton County Commissioner for Precinct 3. Commissioner Mitchell currently serves the Lewisville area and is a prominent public servant.

She is a former Lewisville City Council member and was the city’s first Black mayor, elected in 1993. She held the office until her resignation in January 2000 to run for her current county position.

Commissioner Mitchell is listed in stable condition and is being treated for stab wounds.

Commissioner Mitchell’s husband, Fred Mitchell, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after 5:00 a.m.

The suspect, Michell Blake Reinacher, the grandson of the victims, has been booked into the Lewisville jail and is presently charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The crime scene remains active as LPD crime scene investigators and detectives continue processing evidence and working to determine the circumstances that led to the attack.”

Four Democrat House Members Arrive In El Salvador to Visit MS-13 Gangbanger Abrego Garcia – Trump Admin. Responds By Asking a Blunt Question

Four House Democrats arrived in El Salvador on Monday to meet with their new hero, MS-13 terrorist Kilmar Abrego Garcia, and the visit did not go unnoticed by the Trump White House.

As Fox News reported, Reps. Robert Garcia of California, Maxwell Frost of Florida, Yassamin Ansari of Arizona, and Maxine Dexter of Oregon all announced in a press release that they had arrived in El Salvador “to pressure the Trump Administration to abide by a Supreme Court order to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.”

The four Democrats went on to falsely describe Garcia as “a Maryland man with protected legal status who was unlawfully deported by the Trump Administration.” They also called his imprisonment a “direct violation of due process” under the United States Constitution.

Their arrival follows Senator Chris Van Hollen’s (D-MD) visit to El Salvador last Wednesday and several failed attempts to meet with Abrego Garcia.

Van Hollen was first humiliated when El Salvador’s vice president refused to meet or let him visit Abrego Garcia. He was denied AGAIN last Thursday afternoon when he was denied entry into the infamous CECOT prison where Abrego Garcia is being held, and proceeded to whine afterwards.

Van Hollen finally succeeded last Thursday night in meeting with his favorite ‘Maryland man.’ As he shared margaritas with the credibly accused wife-beater and terrorist, he gazed deeply, lovingly, and closely into the eyes.

Trump’s Department of Homeland Security responded to news of the leftists’ arrival in El Salvador by asking a simple question in a short yet fiery statement on X.

“Four more U.S. lawmakers just landed in El Salvador to meet and shake hands with a terrorist,” the DHS account reads. “All four of them voted against the Laken Riley Act.”

“Why are these politicians putting terrorists illegally in our country over American victims?” the account asked.

— Homeland Security (@DHSgov) April 21, 2025

It should be noted that no taxpayer dollars are being used to fund these four leftists’ little vacation to El Salvador, unlike Van Hollen’s.

One can thank House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) for making this common sense decision.

Photoshop Fail? Joe Biden Shares Odd Image with Easter Message

Image: @JoeBiden/X

No longer in the White House celebrating the trans agenda rather than the holy holiday of Easter, Joe Biden had social media buzzing with the odd family photo he shared on Sunday.

Biden posted, “We wish everyone celebrating today a peaceful and joyful Easter,” and shared a family photo showing him in the background.

The image left many wondering if Sleepy Joe was photoshopped into the picture.

That’s creepy AF. Whose hand is this? Surely not yours. pic.twitter.com/4y0umeNI0q

— Dr. Simon Goddek (@goddeketal) April 20, 2025

Another user dug deeper into technical issues with the image.

Here’s why this Easter photo looks photoshopped: 1) Biden’s lighting doesn’t match—his face and suit are too flat, no deep shadows like the rest of the group. 2) There’s a halo effect around his head and shoulders, especially on the left side. 3) His head looks too big,…

Also conspicuously missing from the family photo is Hunter Biden, who one X user helpfully photoshopped in.

Hilarious! President Trump Trolls Joe Biden For Being Manhandled by the Easter Bunny (VIDEO)

President Trump never skips a beat.

President Trump and First Lady Melania hosted the Easter Roll at the White House on Monday.

The Trump White House posted about the history behind the White House Easter Egg Roll.

“The White House Easter Egg Roll officially dates back to 1878 and the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes, but first-hand accounts suggest that informal festivities began with egg-rolling parties under President Abraham Lincoln. Starting in the 1870s, Easter Monday celebrations on the U.S. Capitol’s west grounds grew so popular that President Ulysses S. Grant signed a bill that banned the rolling of eggs on Capitol grounds, citing landscape concerns,” The White House said.

“In 1878, a group of bold children walked up to the White House gate, hoping to be allowed to play egg-rolling games there. President Hayes told his guards to let the children enter, and soon Easter Monday on the White House grounds became an annual tradition. President Benjamin Harrison added music to the festivities in 1889 with the United States Marine Band,” the White House said.

President Trump, with First Lady Melania by his side, said, “We are honoring Jesus Christ” at Monday’s Easter Egg Roll.

“We’re honoring Jesus Christ and we’re going to honor Jesus Christ very powerfully throughout our lives … not just now, all throughout our lives,” Trump said.

Was Pope Francis a Liberal?

Was Pope Francis a Liberal?

Power, not ideology, was the late pope’s lodestar.

Credit: Fabrizio Maffei/Shutterstock

“Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I build my Church. And the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.” Like most promises, this one holds less than meets the eye. If Catholics are right, it’s a promise of final triumph, sure; in the meantime, it’s little more than a warrant of bare survival. It does not guarantee good or particularly holy administration or vast membership or good temporal repute. It merely underwrites continued existence, and other far more ancient creeds—Zoroastrianism, Jainism, Hinduism—have managed this and seem set to continue managing it without Our Lord’s divine rubber stamp.

Longevity is not the same as health. That’s one of the clear lessons of the late Pope Francis’s pontificate. When the Argentinian pontiff died Monday morning, he had been visibly ailing for some five years, at least since his alarming abdominal surgery in 2023. As the monarch, so the kingdom. (The Golden Bough, folks: read it.) There are fewer butts in pews in Catholicism’s traditional core territories than ever, the Vatican is nigh bankrupt, and in the global south the Church is losing ground to evangelical insurgencies. Everyone agrees on the symptoms; aetiologies differ. Where commentators, especially the dear old earnest American press, erred about Francis was in the belief that the man was sincerely ideological in some way. You see it in the headlines on his exitus, the celebratory tributes from the liberal CNN and the somewhat darker stuff from the fever-swamps of the traditionalist Catholic blogs.

He was disruptive, yes, and disruptive in ways that often favored liberals. Yet it was the disruption itself that was the point, not the liberalism. He was quite happy to make cracks in the press at the expense of “faggots” or to talk about Satan in dark, medieval terms. (His favorite conductor was Furtwängler, for crying out loud. How many liberals do you know whose preferred Wagnerian is Furtwängler?) No, the essence of the Franciscan papacy was control, the singular monopoly on power by the occupant of the Chair. The constant reshuffling of the curia, disrupting long-standing power-bases and not coincidentally putting egg on the faces of prominent papabiles; foregoing elevating bishops from the usual places to the cardinalate, instead preferring to hand out red hats in far-flung parts of the world with weak and poorly understood interests; throwing the underground Chinese Church under the bus in the badly conceived and executed deal with the PRC; these are all moves to ensure that there was no power but Francis’s power in the Roman fold. The shabby handling of traditionalists is best explained along these lines. Even as he crushed traditionalists within the Church, which disproportionately affected the wealthy, powerful, and relatively conservative American Church, he cultivated friendly relations with the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X. By granting them faculties for confession, he functionally brought them out of schism, but their canonical status remains irregular and confusing. Where the law is unclear, power is the judge’s.

Francis in his way consummated the imperial style of papacy. This was in some respects a long time coming; it began to develop at Trent and especially at the First Vatican Council. Yet the execution was all his own, and perhaps irreplicable. We have suggested (and are by no means alone in this) that his reign was an illustration of the Argentinian political idiom, a Romanized peronismo. What we are about to see in the Catholic world is the chaos that ensues when a figure like Peron dies. For 12 years, the wheel of the Church turned on a single hub. What happens when it is taken away? The College of Cardinals is full of relative newcomers, and Francis rarely convened them together at Rome, preventing the formation of cliques and interests that lay the usual groundwork for a conclave. Nobody knows what will happen next, and anyone who tells you he knows is a fool or a liar. In such an environment, however, it is not uncommon to see external lobbies exert disproportionate influence.

Good news, perhaps, for Matteo Cardinal Zuppi, who looks as if he might be the U.S. government’s man, and who has cannily cultivated friends both liberal and traditionalist. Zuppi also has the advantage of looking like a classic Italian institutionalist, which may well be appealing after Francis’s permanent revolution. The Vatican fisc is in appalling condition—incoherence and indifferentism don’t tend to rally the faithful to fund diocesan taxes and give generously to Peter’s Pence, and the census numbers have never recovered from the Covid-19 lockdowns. While ideology maintains its charms, money actually talks. Cardinals and the interests they represent, irrespective of their own thoughts about how to run the Church, may well converge on a stability candidate. Whatever program comes next, any philosophical or political program is likely to take a back seat to operational competence and institutional retrenchment.

It has been a long and astonishing 12 years. Liberal Catholics may look back on it fondly, especially depending on what strange thing next happens at Rome. (And, irrespective of what it is, it will feel strange.) Yet there will be little appetite for a reprise of this show. Après Francis, le deluge.

White House Says Trump ‘Stands Strongly Behind’ Hegseth as Democrats Call for His Ouster Over Alleged Signal Chats (VIDEO)

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Monday that President Donald Trump “stands strongly behind” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after a New York Times report citing unnamed sources alleging that he again discussed sensitive information in a Signal group chat.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, the Pentagon has forcefully denied the newspaper’s allegations. Chief Spokesman Sean Parnell called the story “fake news” driven by disgruntled former employees.

“Another day, another old story—back from the dead. The Trump-hating media continues to be obsessed with destroying anyone committed to President Trump’s agenda,” Parnell said in a statement.

“This time, the New York Times — and all other Fake News that repeat their garbage — are enthusiastically taking the grievances of disgruntled former employees as the sole sources for their article. They relied only on the words of people who were fired this week and appear to have a motive to sabotage the Secretary and the President’s agenda.”

The paper claimed that Hegseth had included his wife, personal lawyer, and brother in a sensitive chat about the planned strikes in Yemen.

The X account for the Democratic Party responded to the report with a post stating “[Hegseth] needs to go.”

Greenland vs. Ukraine: Understanding Trump’s National Security Priorities

President Trump’s policies have been called hypocritical. On one hand, he is determined to counter Russia and China—going so far as to propose buying Greenland—while on the other, he opposes continued funding for the war in Ukraine.

But there is no contradiction.

The administration’s focus on the dual threats posed by China and Russia remains clear. The difference is that Trump prioritizes protecting the U.S. homeland over defending Europe.

By acquiring Greenland and increasing U.S. defense capabilities there, the United States would be countering Chinese and Russian incursions into the Arctic and the waters directly surrounding the U.S. homeland, as well as Canada.

This would strengthen America’s strategic position in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions, keep sea lanes open for trade, and help keep the naval and air forces of hostile actors away from the North American continent.

Trump’s preference for ending U.S. funding of the Ukraine war is not a shift in defense priorities, but rather a question of efficacy and a desire to avoid escalation into a world war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly admitted that he has no clear plan for victory.

This aligns with military assessments that point to a significant imbalance between Russian and Ukrainian forces.

Russia, the second most powerful military in the world, vastly outmatches Ukraine, which didn’t even rank among the top ten before the war, and has since lost millions of people.

An estimated 6.9 million Ukrainians have fled the country, representing more than 16% of the pre-war population.

Zelensky’s chances of achieving a military victory are now even lower than they were in the first year of the conflict.

Some have argued that if remaining in Ukraine and defending the country is not a priority for 16% of its citizens, it raises the question of why it should be a priority for the United States.

Sanctions imposed by the U.S. and its allies were supposed to cripple the Russian economy and end Moscow’s ability to wage war.

However, Russia continues to earn substantial revenues from energy sales to Europe.

At the same time, China and India routinely bypass sanctions by purchasing Russian oil above the cap price, keeping the Russian economy afloat.

Even NATO member Turkey has provided military aid to Russia.

After nearly three years, the Russian economy has not collapsed, and there is no indication it will in year four.

At the same time, Europe continues to buy Russian energy, indirectly funding Moscow’s war machine, while pressuring the United States to finance Ukraine’s defense.

There is also growing talk in Europe of NATO becoming directly involved in the war—despite Ukraine not being a member. Such escalation would almost certainly trigger a world war, dragging the U.S. into a conflict it did not initiate.

Many American conservatives have long questioned the country’s commitment to NATO, particularly since the U.S. covers nearly 70% of NATO’s total defense spending (separate from its 15.8% share of NATO’s common budget).

It seems illogical for the U.S. to bankroll Europe’s defense while Europe helps finance Russian aggression.

A popular trope circulating online says that 750 million Europeans are demanding that the United States, with a population of just 340 million, defend them from Russia, a country of about 145 million.

This highlights the absurdity of Europe, made up of roughly 40 countries and located next door to Russia, expecting the U.S., 5,000 miles away, to shoulder the burden of their defense while they systematically dismantle their own militaries.

For decades, Europe has imposed more restrictions on American imports than the U.S. has on European goods.

Despite this imbalance, most European countries and the EU as a whole run a trade surplus with the United States, benefiting significantly from U.S. trade.

At the same time, the U.S. continues to provide substantial financial aid to the region, particularly to Central and Eastern Europe.

In fiscal year 2023 alone, the U.S. allocated approximately $19.6 billion in foreign aid to Europe and Eurasia, covering military, economic, humanitarian, and governance-related support.

Despite receiving American trade and aid advantages, most European countries continue to underinvest in their own defense.

Prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, only two European NATO members—Greece and the United Kingdom—met the alliance’s 2 percent GDP defense spending target.

Most European states had also eliminated military conscription, yet they expect American volunteers to defend them—an expectation increasingly questioned by U.S. conservatives.

Adding to these frustrations is the issue of Turkey, a NATO member that consistently undermines U.S. interests. Turkey supports Islamist militant groups in Syria that have targeted American allies.

Its capital, Ankara, has also allowed ongoing violations of international sanctions against Russia.

In September 2023, the U.S. sanctioned five Turkish companies and a Turkish national for aiding Russia in sanctions evasion, including repairing sanctioned military vessels and supplying dual-use goods with military applications.

In May 2024, the U.S. imposed further sanctions on over 280 individuals and companies, including Turkish firms, for providing Russia with critical military technology and equipment.

Then, in April 2025, Turkey’s largest oil refiner, Tüpraş, resumed purchases of Russian Urals crude, raising questions about Ankara’s compliance with the G7 price cap on Russian oil exports.

There have also been reports that Russia has used U.S. banks to transfer billions of dollars to Turkey, potentially bypassing international sanctions. Numerous Turkish companies have been identified as intermediaries, trading with Russian entities or acquiring U.S.-made goods on Russia’s behalf.

The inability of Europe, NATO, or Ukraine to defeat Russia, recapture Crimea, or fully expel Russian forces makes it clear that there is no realistic military path to victory for Ukraine—unless the United States intervenes directly.

But such an intervention would almost certainly trigger a world war. And a world war would be catastrophic not only for Ukraine, but for Europe and the United States as well.

Since direct U.S. involvement would benefit no one, and continued aid is unlikely to deliver a Ukrainian victory, there is little justification for sending more money with each new appropriations bill.
