UK Special Coverage

I should explain, for American readers, what a judicial review is in the UK. It is not quite the same as suing the government, though it has a similar effect. It is a procedure by which the courts in England and Wales can examine whether a public body—a minister, a local authority, a regulator—has acted unlawfully. If the judges agree that it has, they can quash the decision. Think of it as the British equivalent of challenging an executive action in the federal courts, except that our system doesn’t require you to invoke the Constitution. You simply have to show that someone in the government has gone beyond his legal authority, or exercised it irrationally. Which is precisely what the Free Speech Union believes Steve Reed, the secretary of state for communities, has done.

Reed has officially adopted a definition of “anti-Muslim hostility”—“Islamophobia” by another name—and announced that a government-appointed “special representative,” a so-called “czar,” will record complaints and ensure that anyone who falls foul of the definition is “appropriately” dealt with. The definition is to be rolled out across the police, the NHS, schools, universities, local authorities, museums, libraries, and—in Reed’s own words—“public and private organizations more widely.” So everywhere, basically. Diversity officers, safeguarding leads, and HR consultants will be rubbing their hands with glee.

Now, you might think: What’s wrong with that? Nobody wants Muslims to face hatred or discrimination. But here’s the problem. Discrimination against Muslims—indeed, against people of any religion—is already illegal under Britain’s Equality Act of 2010. Stirring up religious hatred is also a criminal offense under the Public Order Act of 1986. The law, in other words, already protects Muslims from genuine discrimination and incitement. What this new definition adds is something very different: a mechanism for policing criticism of Muslims and the religion of Islam that comes nowhere near the threshold of criminality.

The definition itself is a masterpiece of legal incoherence. On one hand, it says that to be guilty of anti-Muslim hostility a person must be involved in “engaging in, assisting or encouraging criminal acts” or “unlawful discrimination”—seemingly an attempt to ensure the definition isn’t applied too broadly. But the accompanying guidance goes far beyond what the law prohibits and uses a thicket of vague, legally undefined terms: “prejudicial stereotyping,” “negative,” “beyond the bounds of protected free speech,” “public interest,” “reprehensible” to proscribe words, actions, and even attitudes that are deemed “anti-Muslim.”  These are subjective concepts that will inevitably be deployed to silence legitimate concerns, criticism, and debate—a Muslim blasphemy law by the back door.

The Free Speech Union—the civil liberties organization I founded in 2020 and currently run—already has more than a dozen live cases involving members who’ve said something that Muslims found offensive. A student at Royal Holloway University was suspended after he asked an anti-Zionist activist who had called him a “wannabe Jew” why she was wearing a tea towel on her head. He has since been allowed back, but with conditions restricting who he can speak to and what he can say. How much worse will things get once this definition has been universally adopted? Anyone who dares mention female genital mutilation, forced marriages, or the overrepresentation of men of Pakistani heritage in Britain’s rape gangs—crimes that devastated the lives of thousands of working-class girls—risks being labelled guilty of anti-Muslim hostility.

To get a sense of how this definition is likely to be used, consider what happened immediately after Reed announced he’d be adopting it in the House of Commons. Iqbal Mohamed, an independent MP and pro-Gaza activist, rose to ask whether the definition could be incorporated into the Nolan Principles—the ethical framework governing public life—and applied to what he asserted was the “escalating hostility” of MPs and peers towards Muslims, with appropriate “sanctions” applied. One might have hoped Reed would point out that everything said in Parliament is protected by parliamentary privilege, one of the oldest constitutional safeguards in the English-speaking world. Instead, he said Mohamed was “right to point to the huge concern we should all share”—namely, the concern about parliamentarians being guilty of Islamophobia.

This brings me to the second reason the Free Speech Union believes the decision is unlawful. Under British constitutional law, there is a principle known as the “occupying the field” doctrine. It holds that where Parliament has passed legislation giving a particular body responsibility for a particular area, a minister cannot simply walk in and usurp that responsibility by executive fiat. Parliament has already decided that the body responsible for protecting people from discrimination—including Muslims—is the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Creating a parallel bureaucracy, headed by a government-appointed czar with undefined powers and no statutory underpinning, does not just duplicate the EHRC’s role. It cuts across it. And that, our lawyers advise, is not lawful.

The Free Speech Union is therefore bringing a judicial review against Reed’s decision. Our lawyers are preparing a pre-action protocol letter, setting out why we think this definition is unlawful and asking the government to pause both its rollout and the appointment of the czar until the case has been determined.

Britain repealed blasphemy laws that proscribed attacks on Christianity in 2008. It would be a peculiar irony if, 18 years later, a Labour government reinstated a new version of them—not through Parliament, but through the communities secretary, an unelected czar, and a definition so vague it will undoubtedly have a chilling effect on free speech and, in particular, on the discussion and debate of important issues confronting the nation.

Make Families, Not War

Make Families, Not War

The administration has betrayed its promise of domestic renewal for American families.

USMC Captain David Loveday spends his la

American families are in crisis. In the U.S., fewer young people are getting married, and they are having fewer children. They struggle to afford a first house. They report depression and loneliness at high rates. For those in the Millennial and Gen Y cohorts that do have kids, they worry about what—indeed whether—their children are learning in schools.  Groceries are expensive; mortgage rates and housing prices are crushing. Whatever the future holds, America’s young parents know it almost certainly will include having to take care of aging Boomers and their own small children at the same time, with a demographic structure more weighted toward the elderly than at any other time in history. While meeting their obligations to their elders, they have no assurances that the same benefits will be afforded to them.

The current administration and Congress were elected at least in part on promises to meet these challenges. And, indeed, they did begin to make right on them. The One Big Beautiful Bill contained a significant expansion of the Child Tax Credit and other tax credits for middle-class American families. Republicans in Congress expected to go into the midterms able to boast about securing billions to support working families. The new Trump Accounts promise to make it easier for the parents of today’s babies to send them to college one day. When parents with young children file their taxes this year, they should see some welcome extra cash in their pockets.

The prevailing winds on federal family policy were good for a time, but now the administration has changed course. Rather than launching a whole-of-government effort to support ordinary American families, they’ve launched another war of choice, this time in Iran. America’s moms and dads woke up on a Saturday morning in February to find the military engaged in active combat in Iran—a war they were not prepared for or informed of, but will be asked to pay for anyway.

The federal government has been whistling through the graveyard for years on America’s failure to create consistent and comprehensive family policy. It can’t be ignored any longer. In 2025, less than half of American households were married couples. In contrast, in 1975, almost 2/3rd of U.S. households were married couples. Only 37 percent of American households had minor children in 2025; in 1975, that number was 54 percent. As a new report from the Heritage Foundation put it, “Without families, a country cannot create meaningful work and prosperity.” Families bear and raise children, take primary responsibility for transmitting ideas about virtue and religious beliefs, and teach the value of patriotism and hard work. Or as Ronald Reagan declared: “In the family we learn our first lessons of God and man, love and discipline, rights and responsibilities, human dignity and human frailty.”

America’s young parents will pay much of the price for this new war. Many of those in the Armed Forces who’ve lost their lives are mothers and fathers.  They include a Minnesota mother of two, whose youngest child is in fourth grade. They also include a father of three, who made sure to prep meals for his wife before deploying so she could pull them out of the freezer when caring for their young kids, including twin babies.

America’s ordinary parents will also pay out of pocket—and not just through taxes. Guns vs. butter has always been rightly seen as a binary. If the administration is focused on its new war, it cannot be focused on American families. This goes doubly so for a war in the Middle East, which inevitably will spike gas prices, with all the knock-on effects. At my local gas station, it cost about $45 dollars to fill up my minivan in early February. Today, it costs around $61. Sophisticated readers with plenty in the bank may scoff at a mere $16, but working families already deciding between gas and groceries will indeed feel that pinch.

Recently, a dear friend of mine—a married mom of four married to a husband with a decent job—had her minivan break down unexpectedly. The whole family couldn’t fit in her husband’s car, so they weren’t able to go anywhere together for months while they worked to afford a new (to them) vehicle. She went on our prayer list, but it would have been nice to know the federal government had her family’s back also. I know another family where the dad got in the trunk—leaving the kids and mom in the body of the car with the seatbelts—so the whole family could go to church together after the family minivan broke down. They kept a good sense of humor about it, but where did this family sign up to pay out of pocket each time they fill up the gas tank of a family vehicle so we can fight another war abroad? Why are working families raising a bunch of kids so pinched that there’s a popular country music song about having six kids, yet only being able to afford a car with five seat belts?

Some might argue that our executive branch can walk and chew gum at the same time—that it is capable of both fighting in Iran and supporting the rebuilding of American families on the home front. But even my 8-year-old son understands that if he spends his birthday money on pizza and candy, he won’t have any left over for that new action figure he wants. The estimated cost for expanding the Child Tax Credit to make it fully refundable for families with a newborn came in at around $7.5 billion over 10 years. It didn’t make it into the passed legislation: too expensive. Meanwhile, USA Today reported that the first six days of the war cost $11.3 billion on munitions alone. In other words, the money that could have gone to supporting America’s babies was all but literally set on fire in the Middle East. There’s a newly renamed Department of War, but no Department of Families. In cabinet meetings, there’s no dedicated voice for parents and families, no high-level position dedicated solely to fighting for their interests. Congress has a family caucus, but there’s no powerful lobbyist for parents in DC.

I’m a millennial. My dad voluntarily enlisted in the Army during Vietnam when he drew a bad draft number. He didn’t think much of that war, but he also didn’t believe in dodging the draft, and had little patience for those who did so while chanting, “Make love, not war.” That slogan became iconic for the Boomer Generation. Whatever its merits, we need a new one today. Babies, not bombs. Don’t make wars of choice. Make families. Parents need the federal government’s support in both the executive branch and the Congress to do so.

President Trump trolled Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Sunday for his admission on the Senate Floor that the Democrats “must fund ICE.”

Noting that Schumer was “discombobulated,” Trump said, “Thank you Chuck, I agree!”

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Schumer had a Freudian slip on the Senate Floor on Saturday, stating, “We must fund ICE!” before quickly correcting himself and saying, “We must fund TSA now!”

The Democrats shut the government down 37 days ago, seeking to defund ICE by withholding Homeland Security funding.

While ICE remains funded, funding for other DHS functions, including the Transportation Security Administration, has lapsed, causing massive delays at airports across the country.

Trump announced that he will send ICE agents to help with security at airports, starting on Monday, after at least 400 TSA agents quit their jobs due to missing paychecks.

A meteorite crashed straight through the roof of a home near Houston, Texas, on Saturday, sending shockwaves through the local neighborhood.

Local officials say the incident happened at around 4:45 p.m. in northwest Harris County.

The space rock punched a hole through the roof of a two-story house, slammed into a bedroom floor, then ricocheted and struck the ceiling again.

Miraculously, no one was injured.

Fire Chief Fred Windisch of the Ponderosa Fire Department said he had never seen anything like it in decades of service.

The homeowner, Sherrie James, described hearing a loud explosion from inside the house.

Her grandson went to investigate and found a hole in the ceiling and the rock sitting on the floor below.

Realising what had happened, James immediately contacted emergency services.

The object is believed to be part of a meteor that streaked across Texas moments earlier.

Witnesses reported seeing a bright fireball in the sky shortly before the impact.

According to NASA, the object entered Earth’s atmosphere at roughly 35,000 miles per hour.

It became visible high above the region before breaking apart mid-air, scattering debris across parts of Harris County.

Officials say the original space rock may have been around three feet wide and weighed close to a ton before fragmenting.

The breakup also created a pressure wave, producing the loud booms heard across the area.

Weather radar later confirmed debris falling between northwest Houston and nearby communities.

Despite the damage to the home, James said she is grateful no one was hurt. She has since placed the meteorite in a plastic bag and plans to keep it.

A fundraising page has reportedly been set up to help cover repairs to the damaged roof, floor, and ceiling.

“A meteorite unexpectedly came through my roof today, causing damage to my home here in North Houston,” she wrote in a Facebook post.

The incident comes just days after another meteor caused a loud explosion over parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania, rattling buildings and alarming residents.

Live by the blast, die by the blast.

Political extremism is on the rise in Europe and around the world, with all the violence that goes with it.

But sometimes, the radical tactics they employ turn against themselves.

This was the case in the outskirts of the Italian capital of Rome, where the bodies of an    ‘anarchist couple’ were found, buried under the rubble of a house, after the bomb they were making blew up and killed them.

The Telegraph reported:

“Police believed Alessandro Mercogliano, 53, and 36-year-old Sara Ardizzone were plotting an attack against a police station and Leonardo, a defense contractor, which made parts for F-35 jets.

Traces of ammonium nitrate, a chemical used to make explosives, were found in the debris of the abandoned building beside an ancient Roman aqueduct on Friday.

Police said the pair were supporters of Alfredo Cospito, the jailed figurehead of a loosely organized anarchist network called the Informal Anarchist Federation.”

Cospito is serving a 20-year prison sentence for a series of parcel bombs and attacks targeting Italian authorities.

“’There is a climate of tension that anarchists and far-left elements want to continue to create in our country’, Mr. Tajani, who is [deputy prime minister and] also the foreign minister, told Italian TV. ‘It worries us greatly because it confirms everything that was said during the most violent demonstrations that took place in many Italian cities’.”

Jeff Webb, a conservative media owner and longtime associate of Charlie Kirk, has died at the age of 76.

Webb owned and published right-leaning outlets Human Events and The Post Millennial, both of which have played a role in shaping conservative political coverage in recent years.

He was also heavily involved in Turning Point USA, regularly appearing at events and supporting younger activists within the movement.

His death was confirmed by The Post Millennial. It was reportedly the result of falling while playing Pickleball.

In addition to his political media involvement, Webb built a business career in the cheerleading industry.

He founded Varsity Spirit in 1974, which grew into one of the largest organizations in the U.S. focused on competitions, training camps, and events.

Webb also launched the International Cheer Union, a governing body that expanded the sport internationally and now operates across more than 100 countries.

Turning Point USA said in a statement that Webb was “a visionary who helped shape generations of young leaders and believed deeply in the power of community and country.”

“A dear friend to Turning Point USA and Charlie,” they wrote on X. “He will be greatly missed.”

Webb also authored the book American Restoration: How to Unshackle the Great Middle Class, outlining his views on economic policy and American society.

“We may have lost a future president,” he said in an interview with Real America’s Voice following Charlie Kirk’s assassination last September.

”Charlie Kirk had it all, charisma, faith, respect for everyone. Now, in his absence, tens of thousands of new chapters are rising. His legacy is just beginning.”

He is survived by his wife, Gina Webb, along with his children and grandchildren.

SHOCK: Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal Says ICE Agents Will Shoot and Kill Families When They Are Deployed to Airports

Democrat Senator Richard “Da Nang Dick” Blumenthal on Sunday said ICE agents will shoot and kill families at airports.

The Democrats have repeatedly voted to block funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

On Friday, Democrats once again blocked funding for the DHS and TSA.

Hundreds of TSA agents have quit their jobs after missing a paycheck.

Major airports across the US are experiencing delays due to TSA staffing issues.

Travelers are waiting in security lines for up to five hours and missing flights because of the Democrats.

President Trump this weekend said he will be deploying ICE agents to airports across the country to help travelers swiftly get through security lines.

“The Radical Left Democrats have hurt so many people with their vicious and uncaring ways. What they have done to the Department of Homeland Security, our fantastic TSA Officers, and, most importantly, the great people of our Country, is an absolute disgrace,” Trump said.

“If the Democrats do not allow for Just and Proper Security at our Airports, and elsewhere throughout our Country, ICE will do the job far better than ever done before! The Fascist Democrats will never protect America, but the Republicans will. Just like the Radical Left allowed millions of Criminals to pour into our Country through their ridiculous and dangerous Open Border Policy, the Republicans closed it all down, and we now have the Strongest Border in American History,” Trump said.

“Likewise, I look forward to moving ICE in on Monday, and have already told them to, “GET READY.” NO MORE WAITING, NO MORE GAMES!” Trump said on Truth Social.

According to Reuters, ICE agents will be deployed to at least 14 major airports across the country on Monday.

Senator Blumenthal said the ICE agents will shoot and kill families at the airports.

“ICE agents at airports will only aggravate delays & lines—disrupting checks, interrogating travelers, dragging parents from children, detaining citizens, brutalizing families, shooting & even killing,” Blumenthal said.

Blumenthal attacked ICE officers as “masked, unidentified agents.”

“Brutal, lawless tactics common in communities across the country by masked, unidentified agents, violating basic rights—no way to help TSA or travelers,” Blumenthal said.

ENDLESS NIGHTMARE: Socialist Candidate Emmanuel Grégoire Wins Paris Election, Keeping With Over 25 Years of Leftist Hegemony Over the Decadent French Capital

Is Paris doomed?

You may not know it, but in Japan, there is a mental illness called ‘Paris syndrome’ that affects a couple of dozen Japanese tourists per year, whose ‘highly idealized image’ of the ‘City of Light’ clashes harshly with reality.

The triggers for this severe culture shock condition are that Paris is dirtier, more crowded, and grittier than expected, and the locals are rude and unfriendly.

The symptoms include acute delusions, hallucinations, anxiety, derealization, depersonalization, dizziness, tachycardia, sweating, vomiting, and feelings of persecution.

Part of this cultural shock can be attributed to the French Socialist party, which has controlled the city for over 25 years, and apparently nothing is going to change.

Socialist candidate Emmanuel Grégoire won today’s (22) Paris election, succeeding fellow party member Anne Hidalgo as the French capital’s mayor.

Associated Press reported:

“French voters returned to the polls Sunday in about 1,500 communes. The vote is seen as a test of the balance of power on France’s local political map before the 2027 presidential race begins to take shape.

[…] Grégoire, who led a list uniting the traditional left, the Greens and the Communists, claimed victory after estimates based on partial results placed him well ahead of conservative rival Rachida Dati, who acknowledged defeat.”

WATCH: Anne Hidalgo gives the ‘keys to the city’ to Grégoire.

“Grégoire said ‘tonight is the victory of a certain vision of Paris: a vibrant Paris, a progressive Paris’, before heading on a bicycle through the streets of Paris to the City Hall, where he was greeted by Hidalgo. The French capital has had a left-wing leadership for 25 years.”

In Nice, France’s fifth-largest city, located on the French Riviera, Marine Le Pen’s RN obtained its most resounding win.

“National Rally president Jordan Bardella praised victories in smaller towns and election of many municipal councilors across France, calling it ‘the greatest breakthrough in their history in this municipal election’, Bardella said.”

Linda McMahon Threatens to Pull San Jose State University’s Funding Over Title IX Violations

According to Campus Reform, “The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights recently threatened to rescind funding from San Jose State University after becoming locked in a stalemate with the school over its Title IX violations.”

These violations were in regard to noncompliance regarding “transgender” athletes, otherwise known as Men in Women’s sports.

According to The Office For Civil Rights, “OCR concluded that SJSU’s policies allowing males to compete in women’s sports and access female-only facilities deny women equal educational opportunities and benefits,” the letter stated.

According to this department, San Jose State University caused Female athletes “significant harm.”

In addition, the release stated  the University policies have created “unfairness in competition, compromising safety, and denying women equal opportunities in athletics, including scholarships and playing time.”

The American public is overwhelmingly against Men in Female sports, but apparently, some schools continue to defy the public will and the Executive Orders of the Trump Administration.

The official from The Office for Civil Rights also stated in the press release that “This is unacceptable. We will not relent until SJSU is held to account for these abuses and commits to upholding Title IX to protect future athletes from the same indignities.”

President Trump and his administration have been consistent in opposing the Woke agenda and opposing the efforts to put biological men in women’s sports.

Also, according to Campus Reform, the Office was nice enough to offer a resolution to settle, but San Jose rejected the terms, which included restoring female athletes’ records and offering them apology letters, but the terms seem to have been rejected.

As a result of this school’s non-compliance with federal law, Secretary of Education Linda McMahon posted to X on March 11th that the university’s response was a “proactive refusal” to negotiate the proposed resolution agreement or address the Title IX concerns, concluding that “a voluntary agreement will not be reached and we are at an impasse.”

“The notice informed SJSU that the OCR will issue a Letter of Impending Enforcement Action within 10 calendar days if the university does not reach a compromise and agree to a resolution.”

Defying federal law is no small matter, especially in a matter of public safety such as this.

Possible consequences include termination of federal funding as well as referral to the DOJ.

Linda McMahon correctly argued, “protecting women’s sports is non-negotiable.”

McMahon gave the school ten days to end these practices of Men in Women’s sports.

These are all welcome measures to make sports safe and end unfair practices.

TRAVEL NIGHTMARE: Over 400 TSA Officers QUIT, $2.5 BILLION LOST — Airports in CHAOS as Americans Pay the Price for Democrats’ Political Games

Another day, another total disaster courtesy of the Democrats’ endless political games.

While radical leftists in Congress play chicken with America’s security and pretend the southern border isn’t a wide-open catastrophe, hardworking TSA officers are walking off the job in droves, and American families and businesses are left holding the bag.

According to shocking new numbers dropped by the White House itself:

“400+ TSA officers have quit. $2.5 BILLION lost. Airports in chaos. Americans stuck in the fallout. All because of Democrats’ political games. Fund DHS. Now.”

That’s the cold, hard reality of what happens when Democrats refuse to do their damn jobs and fund the Department of Homeland Security like responsible adults.

The Department of Homeland Security hammered the point home on X:

“The Democrats’ political games are forcing our @TSA officers to work without pay for the THIRD time in six months — forcing many to leave the force, including 35 in New England.

This loss leaves CRITICAL gaps in staffing and significantly decreases TSA’s ability to meet passenger demand, as each new recruit requires 4-6 MONTHS of training.”

Each new TSA recruit requires 4 to 6 months of training, meaning the system cannot rapidly recover from these losses. In the meantime, airports are left understaffed, passengers are left waiting, and security operations are stretched dangerously thin.

AOL reported:

The ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown is taking its toll on the thousands of Transportation Security Administration employees at airports who have been working without pay.

Approximately 60,000 TSA officers who have gone over a month with partial pay began receiving their first $0 paychecks last week.

Many say they are living in fear, with some taking on extra jobs or even leaving the agency altogether to make ends meet.

And if there is no relief soon, veteran TSA leaders fear that the stress and uncertainty could impact operations for years.

On Saturday, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has offered to cover the salaries of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel during the ongoing partial government shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

“I would like to offer to pay the salaries of TSA personnel during this funding impasse that is negatively affecting the lives of so many Americans at airports throughout the country,” Musk wrote in a post on his platform X.
