Curator at American Museum of Natural History Arrested in Turkey for Allegedly Smuggling Spiders and Scorpions (VIDEO)

Science or resource plunder? The frontier is sometimes not entirely clear.

Police in Turkey reportedly arrested a man suspected of trying to smuggle valuable poisonous spiders and scorpions out of the country.

Turkish state media identifying the suspect on Monday as a curator at New York’s American Museum of Natural History.

Reuters reported:

“Police arrested the suspect at Istanbul Airport on Sunday and seized dozens of bags from his luggage containing some 1,500 scorpions and spiders, including tarantulas, as well as dozens of plastic bottles containing unspecified liquids, police said.

The state-owned Anadolu news agency reported the suspect was Lorenzo Prendini, a curator at the historic U.S. museum, without specifying a source.”

The American Museum of Natural History did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

“Police said the specimens seized were endemic to Turkey and that their DNA could be copied and their poisons milked for use in making medicines. The suspect faces charges under anti-smuggling law, it added without giving a name.

‘It is understood that these medicines have very high financial values and therefore taking these animal species abroad is strictly forbidden’, [Turkish Police] said.”

Research quoted by Police showed that the market value of one litre of ‘medicine’ obtained from scorpion venom was supposedly worth $10 million.

CBS News reported:

“Video published by the Demiroren News Agency showed officers searching hand luggage and removing plastic bags that appeared to be packed with dead spiders and scorpions.

The museum’s website lists Prendini as the curator of its spider, scorpion, centipede and millipede collections. It says his research into spiders and scorpions has taken him to more than 30 countries on every continent except Antarctica.”

To the Associated Press report, Prendini said the police had ‘disregarded permits from the Turkish government to conduct his research in collaboration with Turkish scientists’.

“The police completely ignored this and relied on the testimony of an ‘expert’ who has a conflict of interest with my collaborators … and whose scientific research is highly questionable,” he said.

“The police have completely violated due process and it appears they would like to find me guilty in the court of public opinion.”

Conservative ‘Cheers’ Star John Ratzenberger Explains Why Working Class People Support Trump: ‘He Knows How to Build Things’

John Ratzenberger, the actor who played ‘Cliff Clavin’ the mail carrier on the iconic TV series ‘Cheers’ is a Republican and a Trump supporter.

During a recent conversation with FOX News Digital, Ratzenberger explained that many working class people support Trump because he knows how to build things and understands the importance of this.

Ratzenberger has been talking about the importance of knowing how to build and use tools for years. Prior to becoming an actor, he was a carpenter.

FOX News reports:

‘Cheers’ star declares why he thinks working-class Americans support Trump: ‘He knows how to build things’

“Cheers” star and voice actor in the “Toy Story” franchise, John Ratzenberger, spoke to Fox News Digital about his support for former President Donald Trump, stating that the president is a builder who knows how important it is for America to have a resurgence in manufacturing and skilled labor jobs.

Ratzenberger, who made a living from carpentry in between acting gigs over the years, also explained why he believes the 2024 presidential candidate has a lot of support among American manufacturers and blue-collar workers – or as Ratzenberger likes to call them, “essential workers.”

“Because he knows how to build things,” Ratzenberger declared.

“Don’t forget what he did before he was on television and ran for president. He built buildings, so he was in charge of, ‘We need more glaziers or brick workers or carpenters, electricians.’ And that’s what he dealt with all his life,” he said.

The actor added, “And so he knows probably better than anybody – one of the reasons that I’m a fan of his – that we’re running out of those people, and it’s jeopardizing our civilization.”

In this video, Ratzenberger talks about the work he has done to teach people around the country about the importance of knowing how to use tools and make things.

It’s just another reminder that not everyone in Hollywood is a liberal. There are definitely fewer outspoken conservatives in entertainment, but they do exist.

Chicago Mayor Avoids Press as He Escapes to Prayer Event in Chauffeured Car

As the bustling city of Chicago continues to navigate through a sea of chaos and controversy, the city’s mayor has found solace in a rather unexpected place – a prayer event. However, it’s not the event itself that has sparked attention, but rather the mayor’s unconventional mode of transportation and swift evasion of the press.

Amidst a flurry of media attention, the elusive mayor was spotted making a hasty exit from city hall, slipping into a luxurious chauffeured car waiting outside. With a quick wave to the eager reporters and a sly smile, the mayor seemed to be on a mission to escape the city’s political spotlight for just a moment.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson literally panics and literally runs when a reporter begins asking about fallen CPD Officer Huesca:pic.twitter.com/ObDaIIn11I

— End Wokeness (@EndWokeness) May 2, 2024

But what exactly prompted this sudden retreat from the public eye? Some speculate that it was the mayor’s recent decisions and policies that have caused uproar among Chicago’s residents. From budget cuts to school closures, the mayor’s actions have certainly not gone unnoticed.

Yet, instead of facing the tough questions and criticism, the mayor chose to flee to a prayer event – a move that has raised eyebrows and sparked controversy. Some view it as a calculated attempt to divert attention from the pressing issues at hand, while others see it as a genuine attempt to find guidance and strength in a higher power.

Chicago Mayor was told not to come to slain cop’s funeral by cop’s family.

He tried to bully and said he will go
regardless to give speech and photo op.

He only backed off when cop’s sister
threatened she will create a big scene.

These people r very corrupt. pic.twitter.com/EQKkZV9rGP

— Not TicTocTick (@TicTocTickDel) May 2, 2024

As the mayor’s car sped off into the busy streets of Chicago, many were left wondering about the true intentions behind this unusual decision. Is it a sign of vulnerability or simply a clever political maneuver? Only time will tell.

In the meantime, the mayor’s choice to escape the media frenzy and seek refuge in prayer has sparked a larger conversation about the role of religion in politics. Should elected officials use their faith as a means to avoid scrutiny or should they be held accountable for their actions regardless of their beliefs?

Regardless of where one stands on this debate, it is clear that the mayor’s actions have once again put Chicago in the national spotlight. And while the city continues to grapple with its own struggles and challenges, the mayor’s elusive behavior has only added to the chaos.

As the chauffeured car drove the mayor away from the city’s hustle and bustle, one thing remains certain – Chicago’s mayor may have momentarily escaped the press, but the issues facing the city are far from over. And it is up to the citizens of Chicago to hold their leaders accountable and demand transparency in the face of adversity.

Is Spain’s Prime Minister the Global Left’s Great Survivor?

Is Spain’s Prime Minister the Global Left’s Great Survivor?

Pedro Sánchez has emerged from repeated crises stronger than ever.

On Wednesday, April 25, Pedro Sánchez, Spain’s prime minister, announced that he was considering resigning.

Sánchez, the Spanish head of government since 2018, said the reason behind this decision was that he was not sure whether it “was all worth it” because of the “media harassment” he had faced. The reason? His wife, Begoña Gómez, is being investigated by a Madrid court for traffic of influence.

Next Monday, Sánchez would triumphally announce he would continue serving as head of government.

No one really thought Sánchez would resign and call for early elections. Why did he do it then?

This theater was just one antic in Sanchez’s long list of political survival moves. This one, particularly, seemed like a bid for the legitimacy to move against the hostile press and a part of the Spanish judiciary. It also disclosed something important: Sanchez is perhaps the most astute political operator that the global left has in the Western world.

A Madrid judge answered a formal complaint against the Spanish first lady for traffic of influence by ordering an investigation against her.

Although no further details were given, Spanish media has time and time again published a long list of allegations against Gómez for leveraging her position as first lady to favor friends and projects she’s worked for with public money and government contracts.

For example, the businessman Carlos Barrabés received over €15.6 million in public contracts from six ministries after she provided him with a recommendation letter. El Debate alleged that the Sánchez administration gave €100,000 of public money to a population control project that Gómez herself is backed. The same outlet also published a report indicating that four Spanish ministries gave contracts to a consulting company where Gómez is a shareholder.

Some of these allegations are not new. In fact the GRECO (Group of States Against Corruption in English), a body dependent on the Council of Europe, recommended the Sánchez administration to make public the financial information of Gómez, which, according to a GRECO report, was ignored by Sánchez.

Sánchez went on the offensive, calling the organization that presented the complaint a “far-right organization” and the media giving raise to them as “with a marked right-wing and far-right bias” and of establishing a “harassment operation” against him, claiming that the “right and far-right did not accept the electoral result” (referring to the July 2023 elections). Sánchez’s party, PSOE, had come in second, but was able to form a minority government in coalition with Sumar, the heir party of the far-left Podemos, and the external support of a motley crew of far-left and nationalist parties in Catalonia and the Basque country.

No one really believed Sánchez would resign. Most supporters went along with the play, saying that Sánchez and his wife were a victim of lawfare and mediatic persecution, even if some of the information from which the complaints come from is publicly available.

Indeed, most people saw right through it—Sánchez was changing the focus of the conversation and making himself and his wife victims of persecution to further his political goals, as he usually does.

Sánchez has led PSOE, the historical leftist party of Spain since 2014, except for a brief period between 2016 and 2017.

At that point, Spain was in a political stalemate. After consecutive general elections that did not result in the formation of a government, Sánchez’s party split between two factions: one that supported allowing a minority government of the PP (the traditional center-right party in Spain) and other, supported by Sánchez, sought to form a coalition government with left-wing, nationalist and independentist parties even if it meant repeating elections once again.

On September 28 of 2016, 17 members of the board of the party resigned in protest against Sánchez, which led to Sánchez’s resignation a few days later; he said he would resign as a MP a month later. Sánchez was toast, many thought.

They were wrong.

In May 2017, he would win the election for leader of the PSOE and in May 2018, he would force a no confidence vote against Mariano Rajoy, the sitting president, which included his investiture as president. The vote passed, and Sánchez became the head of Spain’s government on June 1, just a year and a half after many thought his political career had ended.

Nevertheless, less than a year after, Sánchez would have to call for elections again after the Spanish congress rejected his budget for 2019.

No party could form government after a general election in April 2019 but after a repeat election in November, Sánchez would be able to form a “Frankenstein” coalition with Podemos, a far-left party, as a coalition partner, along with some nationalist parties such as the Basque Nationalist Party, small far-left parties such as Más País, and the abstentions of Bildu, the heir of the terrorist group ETA, and Esquerra Republicana, an independentist far-left Catalan party. He had done it again.

But, as is usual in Spain, Sánchez’s unpopularity grew with time. His closeness to independentists, the controversial “ley solo sí es sí” (only yes means yes) policy that led to rapists getting out of jail quicker, his policy of “democratic” memory that led to the growth of the anti-Spanish black legend, his many economic mistakes, and an imprudent migration policy put a bullseye on him again. Again, as many times before, Sánchez seemed done.

He faced a formidable defeat in the regional elections in May 2023. Now he was done for good. There were general elections in December, and the pendulum swung badly against him. The Spanish left was panicking.

But Sánchez still had a card to play. He called an early election for July 23, 2023, quickly switching the focus of the conversation from his astounding defeat to a new election. It was a risky move, and everything pointed at PP winning.

Yet Sánchez pulled it off. Both the PP and Vox (the new right party in Spain) ran terrible campaigns and did not have time to settle a common message. Sánchez represented stability and a containment wall against the “far” right.

Even though PSOE came in second, the PP did not have enough support among minor parties to garner a coalition. It is PSOE the party that has sold Spain to nationalist and independentist parties in Catalonia and the Basque Country, and even given greater power in regions such as Galicia, where nationalism was almost unheard of until recently. They all were rooting for Sánchez. He survived.

The main issue of Sánchez’s play is that it provided him with legitimacy at a point in which he is, once again, unpopular. He appears now to be planning a counter-offensive to limit freedom of the press and judiciary independence in Spain.

Sánchez has shown an almost obsessive fixation with attacking the press during his tenure, which has only increased with the allegations against his wife. His government created in 2019 a Permanent Commission Against Disinformation to “improve and increase transparency with regards to the origin of disinformation and the way it is produced and transmitted.” Just a day after Sánchez’s letter, Félix Bolaños, the Justice minister of Spain called the outlets publishing allegations against Gómez “pseudo-media” that are creating a “hoax ecosystem,” while Sánchez has referred these outlets in the past as the fachosfera, which is an invented term that could be translated into English as “fascist-sphere.”

Some local media have published that within PSOE they are discussing potential reforms to the press and the judiciary in the country, something that Sánchez himself has publicly threatened to do in recent interviews, without going into details.

Meanwhile, his party reactivated a “Committee Against the Right-Wing Disinformation,” that will ask media who publishes allegedly inaccurate information against Sánchez and his government to retract the information in 24 hours or face defamation lawsuits and, in fact, have already done so against the director of El Debate, which has revealed many of the scandals surrounding Sánchez’s administration.

Also, the General Council of the Judiciary is set to be renewed this year. The Council is the governing body of the judiciary, in charge of supervising the independence of the judicial power in Spain. Usually, a qualified majority is needed to renew the positions, something that Sánchez does not have. Nevertheless, Sánchez has said his party could change the majority needed to do so to a simple majority, which means he could pack the council, hindering the independence of the judicial power and even paving the way for further judicial reform.

Sánchez has dedicated his first few years of government to destroy Spain in his ruthless struggle for political survival by giving the country away to those who want to eliminate it the most. Now he seems hellbent to finish his cause by going on the offensive against anyone who does not hate his own country. The right should gird its loins. Sanchez has a habit of winning.

Putin’s New Defense Minister Could Be His Successor

Putin’s New Defense Minister Could Be His Successor

The pick indicates Putin is happier with the Russian economy than with the way the war has been going under Shoigu.

Vladimir Putin removed the longtime Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu from his post on Sunday as part of a cabinet reshuffle at the start of his fifth presidential term. Shoigu’s replacement is Andrei Belousov, a civilian economist who has served in various bureaucratic positions since 2006, including as Putin’s presidential advisor in economic affairs.

Shoigu’s departure was not much of a surprise. His sacking was foreshadowed by last month’s arrest of Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, a Shoigu crony, who is charged with accepting bribes. (Rumors than Ivanov will also be charged with treason have been dismissed by the Kremlin as “speculation.”) With his ally sitting in prison awaiting trial, Shoigu doubtless perceived that he might be next.

Technically, Shoigu has been kicked upstairs, not fired. He will hold the position of secretary of the Security Council of Russia, the job held until now by Nikolai Patrushev, a KGB veteran and one of Putin’s inner circle. This is a classic Putin move. Allies who fail in their jobs are not punished, because Putin prides himself on never abandoning old friends, but they are sidelined so they can’t do any more damage.

Shoigu has endured humiliating job shuffles before. In 2012, when Putin returned to the presidency after the Medvedev interlude, he demoted Shoigu from emergencies minister, a post he had held since 1999 under Boris Yeltsin, and appointed him governor of the Moscow region. Shoigu took the demotion uncomplainingly. Putin was impressed with this stoic reaction and rewarded Shoigu by bringing him back to the cabinet after only six months, this time as defense minister.

As defense minister, Shoigu implemented some much-needed reforms to professionalize Russia’s army and cultivated a personal friendship with Putin, organizing hunting and fishing trips for the president in his native province of Tuva. His decade-plus tenure allowed Shoigu to fill the defense ministry with associates personally loyal to him. In 2014, when Putin floated the idea of annexing Crimea, Shoigu advised against it, but after the decision was made, he executed the operation loyally.

His performance in the current Ukraine conflict has been widely criticized. The late Yevgeny Prigozhin, in particular, was a bitter enemy who accused Shoigu of depriving frontline fighters of munitions and arms. The removal of Shoigu was one of the “demands” of the short-lived Wagner coup of June 2023. Putin stood by Shoigu at the time but apparently his patience has run out.

So who is Belousov? His father, Rem Belousov, was a reforming economist in the Brezhnev era. The younger Belousov began his career in public service as a protégé of German Gref, one of the architects of Russia’s “second transition,” that is, the transition from Yeltsin-era shock therapy to Putin-era state capitalism after the first transition from socialism to free markets. Gref, as Putin’s first minister of economic development, helped rein in the free-for-all of the 1990s and establish a stable economic environment for business while giving the state a bigger role.

Belousov, like Gref, enjoys a reputation for incorruptibility. This will be one of his first tasks as defense minister. Graft flourished under Shoigu, and the Ivanov trial may reveal the full extent of the corruption as the investigation proceeds. Belousov is also said to be a devout Orthodox Christian; photos exist online of him wearing the vestments of an altar server.

In his current role as deputy prime minister, Belousov has shown a particular interest in Russia’s drone industry. He oversaw the “National Unmanned Aircraft” project launched in 2023, which, among other things, provided schools and colleges with drones in order to train operators and launch student drone clubs. He boasted in January that domestic production of drones would triple by 2030, with government investment of over $7 billion. This would decrease Russia’s dependence on foreign-made drones like the Iranian Shahed drone currently used by its forces in Ukraine.

POLITICO named Belousov as a possible successor to Putin back in 2020. His stature has only increased since then, especially in light of Russia’s surprisingly strong economic performance in the face of Western sanctions. In fact, the war actually seems to have helped the Russian economy by giving a fillip to domestic industry. The ideology that Belousov has espoused his whole career—using the state to promote economic development within the framework of a capitalist free market—has, from the Kremlin’s perspective, been vindicated.

If Belousov can bring discipline and honesty to Russia’s defense procurement while making sure that war spending continues to boost the broader economy instead of suffocating it, then he will be well-positioned to take over Putin’s role when his term expires in 2030, assuming the then 78-year-old Putin chooses to retire.

In the meantime, his appointment indicates that the Ukraine conflict could grind on for a long time yet. Russia is currently producing three times as many artillery munitions as the U.S. and Europe are for Ukraine, according to CNN. Belousov’s promotion suggests that Putin sees production as the key to winning a war of attrition, which is bad news for the smaller, less populous country in the conflict.

Not Your Parents’ Protests

Not Your Parents’ Protests

Immigration-driven demographic changes and the advent of “wokeness” have radically changed the dynamics of campus politics.

The most salient elements of the anti-Israel student protests are their radicalness and timing. Timing first: There has been opposition to Israel’s policy towards the Palestinians—“the occupation”—for decades, becoming more pronounced as the hopes of the Oslo era two-state solution faded after the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin. I have participated in some. The liberal antiwar group Code Pink once organized demos outside the annual AIPAC gathering; they were often creative, with mock ups of the Israeli checkpoints which rob Palestinians of hours every day when traveling from one part of Israeli controlled territory to another. Medea Benjamin gave spirited speeches to delegates walking from their hotels after breakfast to the AIPAC main event. “Palestinians didn’t do the Holocaust” she cajoled them, seeking to sever the link—an ubiquitous trope of Israeli propaganda—between opposition to whatever Israel does and the greatest crimes of the past century.

Those demos were held during a critical moment in the Israel–Palestine conflict, the first years of Barack Obama’s presidency. The popular new president was making a sustained effort to reign in Israel’s West Bank settlement building and reignite diplomacy towards a two state solution. AIPAC opposed him vigorously. So did leading senators from his own party. Code Pink’s actions never drew more than eight or ten dozen people, and their political impact bordered on zero. Obama eventually concluded this battle with the Israel lobby was not worth the political cost and gave up.

Fast forward a dozen or so years, and we are in a different world. Obviously the levels of energy and power on the campus and street had changed. Within days of the Hamas attack, boisterously aggressive demos broke out on many campuses and on the streets of major cities. They were not about checkpoints or occupation; the slogans directly challenged Israel’s right to exist. “From the River to the Sea” implies eliminating Israel entirely, although one can find counterparts in Zionist or Israeli rhetoric dating back to before Israel’s founding. “There is only one solution, intifada revolution,” another common chant, celebrates the intifada (the first was relatively non-violent, the second extremely bloody) with an evocation of eliminationist Nazi rhetoric.

These stirrings of pro-Palestinian sentiment on campus and in the streets, hardly visible in previous decades, erupted before Israeli troops entered Gaza, before Israel had decided how it would deal with its Hamas malefactors. What sparked them was not horror at Israeli brutality—though there would be much of that in the weeks to come—but excitement about Israeli death. It took a massive number of Palestinian civilian casualties in Gaza to turn these demonstrations into mass events, engaging thousands of American students. But the initial pro-Palestine protests, the dissemination of memes glorifying the Hamas attack, revealed how much had changed, temperamentally and rhetorically, in America’s pro-Palestine universe since Obama’s time.

There was, notably, a new ethnic composition to the protests. I haven’t seen a detailed demographic breakdown of protestors or their leaders, but it seemed that in almost every instance the campus leaders quoted in press reports were of Arabic origin—meaning they were foreign students or descended from families of recent immigrants. Mass immigration has changed the American political culture since the time of Clinton and Obama presidencies, probably nowhere moreso than regarding the Mideast. According to the Arab American Institute, there are over 3 million people of Arab origin in the U.S.; if one surmises that one percent of these are young people ready to participate in militant anti-Israel demonstrations, that would explain how quite a few major American cities now have a large cadre of people available to shut down highways, bully “Zionist-owned” businesses, and shout menacing slogans. The non-Arab Muslim population, which hardly existed forty years ago, is at least that size.

Twenty years ago, there was on Capitol Hill a Bernie Sanders, willing to persistently criticize Israel and make conditional American support for it, but no Ilhan Omar, whose daughter was a recent Columbia demonstrator, ready to opine to the media about “pro-genocide Jews.” The success of pro-Israel neoconservatives in purging immigration restrictionists from their positions of influence in the mainstream American right in the mid-1990s, during a moment when even the Clinton administration (through its appointment of the Barbara Jordan–led immigration commission) supported stricter immigration regulations and national polls clearly favored a slowing of immigration, can be counted as one of the most spectacularly Pyrrhic victories in the history of American politics.

The changed nature of anti-Israel protest was well illustrated when Norman Finkelstein, an eloquent and radical critic of Israel whose academic career has been thwarted because of it, came uptown to address Columbia’s anti-Zionist encampment on the South Lawn. With deference and humility he explained that students should be careful in their choice of slogans, and to use those which were unambiguous and appealed to the broadest segment of the American population. He suggested as a variant to the most popular one “From the river to the sea, Palestinians will be free”—which implies that dramatic improvement in the actual lives of Palestinians might be sought in ways that didn’t involve outright elimination of Israel. The South Lawn campers listened politely to the still-handsome septuagenarian. The moment he finished they launched into their standard “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”.

The great awokening further accounts for why demonstrations calling for the destruction of Israel attracted thousands in 2024, while efforts to move towards a two-state solution made by a popular president drew negligible backing 14 years earlier. The United States may be moving past peak wokeness in the zeitgeist if not institutionally. But the general hatred of “whiteness,” the colonial studies mentality which divides the world into virtuous and legitimate countries and “settler colonial states” retains its purchase on quite a few students, who welcome the opportunity to act out doctrines which saturate social science departments without having any particular knowledge or interest in Israel-Palestine. Though Israel may now have a majority population (Jewish and Arab) from the Middle East, in the eyes of campus neo-Fanonists, it is an undeniably Western country with advanced science, contested elections, a free press, and symphony orchestras and thus permanently guilty.

Various pro-Palestine student statements reflect this perspective. Columbia University Apartheid Divest’s manifesto states that “all systems of oppression are interlinked” and called for the “liberation” of dozens of countries, including “Turtle Island,” a name for the territory of the United States in a native American language. Perhaps it was hope that awareness of intersectional oppression had permeated beyond the seminar room that prompted Columbia demonstrators to send a column of marchers into Harlem at the same time they occupied Hamilton Hall. If Harlem did back the students or veered even slightly into riot mode, it would have effectively made it impossible for the NYPD to mobilize at Columbia and clear the campus of campers and building-occupiers.

Inevitably there was a reaction against the demonstrators. Incessant chanting and banging drums in favor of Hamas grew tiresome for many students. College presidents, under pressure from donors and politicians to “do more” to restore order to campus have generally moved to clear the encampments, provoking more relief than rage. Graduation ceremonies have been reconfigured, split up and moved to smaller venues to minimize opportunities of disruption. Saturday Night Live, probably a trustworthy bellwether of liberal elite opinion, did a cold open more mocking than respectful of the demonstrators. Sophisticated crowd-control techniques will ensure the streets around Democrats’ Chicago convention will be far quieter than they were in 1968.

Nevertheless, these anti-Israel demonstrations, which spread to some three dozen campuses, should not be dismissed as some kind of spring fling about which Israel and its supporters can soon forget. They were made possible by the changes in American demography and political culture alluded to earlier, some of which are permanent. They also were spurred by images of the massive destruction Israel has inflicted upon Gaza. Few can claim seriously to know how Israel could have struck effectively at Hamas (an entirely legitimate goal) while avoiding mass civilian casualties, or whether it could be done at all. In any case, the Gaza war is likely to end shortly one way or another, and Israel will still be occupying territory inhabited by millions of Palestinians, while denying them political or meaningful civil rights. America’s unconditional support for Israel is now open to serious challenge, and that support will become ever more tenuous if the occupation grinds on, and as the college protesters, or most of them, retain their views in softened form and rise to positions of power and influence.

Despite the embarrassing displays of Israel fealty put on by leading Capitol Hill Republicans, this is true of the right as well. Recently I attended a right-wing event in New York, (shockingly) full of smart and hip young people. The host took the floor and spoke of a seeming “vibe-shift” in favor of greater free speech over the past year or two, concluding, “It’s possible to say it now. Israel is our greatest ally.” The crowd laughed, appreciative of irony. All the more reason why it is in Israel’s interests too to seek, as soon as possible, a solution which satisfies the legitimate aspirations of Israelis and Palestinians.

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria Tells Democrats to Face ‘Reality’ That Biden is Probably Going to Lose to Trump in November (VIDEO)

Is someone putting something in the water over at CNN?

Last week, CNN host Fareed Zakaria made headlines by suggesting that Biden should adopt Trump’s policies on immigration and the border.

Now Zakaria is telling Democrats that it’s time to face the ‘reality’ that Joe Biden is probably going to lose the election in November.

He comes right out and says that he personally doesn’t want Trump to win, but that barring some unforeseen event, Trump is likely to walk away with the win.

Real Clear Politics provides a transcript:

FAREED ZAKARIA, CNN: I have to admit none of this is playing out as I thought it would.

Trump is now leading in almost all the swing states. But behind those numbers lie even more troubling details. As someone worried about the prospects of a second Trump term, I think it’s best to be honest about reality. I understand that polls are not always accurate. But in general, they have tended to underestimate Donald Trump’s support, not overestimate it. I doubt that there are many shy Biden voters in the country.

The economy has been in a robust recovery for more than two years now with unemployment hitting a 54-year low in 2023 and increasing only slightly since then. But Biden is getting little credit for it. The shift here is stark. On the question of whom voters trust more to deal with the economy, Trump has a 22-point lead over Biden according to an NBC poll from January. This marks of a 15-point bump for Trump compared to the same poll in 2020.

Perhaps this is because inflation is a far more pervasive problem than unemployment affecting all Americans every day. Perhaps it’s because people’s views on the economy now are largely derived from their broader attitudes towards the candidates. But whatever the reasons it’s a stunning reversal in the midst of a relentless stream of good economic news.

On cultural issues, Biden and Democrats benefit from the opposition to the Republican Party’s position on abortion. But on the other great cultural issue, immigration, Biden is 35 points behind Trump as to who would handle it better. And I do wonder whether abortion will be as large an issue in a presidential race, given that reversing Roe v. Wade threw the issue to state governments and legislatures, and not the federal government.

Watch the whole thing:

NEW: CNN’s Fareed Zakaria doesn’t see a path for a Joe Biden victory in 2024 as of now and says Democrats need to be “honest about reality.”

Louisiana Parishioners Stop Teen Dressed in Black and Armed With Rifle as He Enters Church Filled With Families (VIDEO)

Over the weekend, a Louisiana church that was filled with families and small children got a shock as a teenager dressed all in black entered the building during a first communion mass armed with a rifle.

Luckily, the parishioners acted quickly and piled on top of the would-be shooter, stopping him in his tracks.

This is an excellent reminder that people have to be aware, be vigilant, and act quickly at the first signs of trouble.

RedState has more details:

Terrifying Moments: Teenager With Gun Stopped at First Communion Mass in Louisiana

The folks at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Abbeville, Louisiana, were having a First Communion mass for about 60 kids on Saturday. They likely thought that they were going to have a beautiful celebration together.

But unfortunately, they also had some scary moments that intruded on the solemnity of the day. As the priest Fr. Nicholas Duper was on the altar, at about 48 minutes in, you can see a man come up to the altar, bend over, and whisper in his ear. That is certainly not a usual occurrence during a Catholic mass. You can see the priest absorbing something, and then he suddenly asks the parishioners to sit and to pray, as he starts to say a “Hail Mary.”…

What was going on was that there was a suspicious armed person — a teenager dressed in black — who had entered the church vestibule with a gun. Parishioners stopped him and detained him, pinning him to the ground. Then the police came and arrested him.

Crews Execute Controlled Demolition to Dismantle Remaining Span of Collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore (VIDEO)

Crews set off a chain of carefully placed explosives on Monday to break down the largest remaining span of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

The demolition aimed to free the Dali, a container ship that has been stranded in Baltimore harbor for 48 days.

The ship lost power and collided with one of the bridge’s support columns shortly after departing Baltimore on March 26, causing the bridge to collapse.

The accident tragically claimed the lives of six construction workers and halted most maritime traffic through the busy port.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge is a significant commuter route carrying the Baltimore Beltway I-695 over the Patapsco River at the southern end of the Baltimore Harbor, and it’s the state’s number one thoroughfare for hazardous materials, which are not allowed to go through the underwater roadway tunnels in Baltimore.

Onlookers witnessed the mangled steel trusses plunge into the water below. The controlled collapse was designed to avoid further contact with the vessel and allow it to be refloated.

Officials confirmed that the detonation proceeded as planned. The next phase of the cleanup involves assessing the remaining trusses on the Dali’s bow and ensuring that no underwater wreckage prevents the ship from being refloated and moved.

Last month, the U.S. Naval Institute has reported that the Chesapeake, the largest crane on the East Coast, arrived to assist in the efforts of cleaning up the wreckage left behind from the Dali crashing into the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Friday.

According to the UNI, the Chesapeake, formerly named the SUN 800, was built by the CIA “to recover the Soviet Golf II ballistic missile submarine K-129, which sunk in 1968.” The CIA used the SUN 800 to help assist in the construction of the Hughes Glomar Explorer.

While the bridge’s reconstruction cannot commence until the cleanup is complete, the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDTA) estimates that the Francis Scott Key Bridge will be rebuilt by fall 2028, with costs ranging between $1.7 billion and $1.9 billion, Washington Post reported.

Some experts predict the project could take up to a decade to complete. Benjamin Schafer, a professor of civil and systems engineering at Johns Hopkins University, told USA Today that it could take a decade or longer. Similarly, Sameh Badie, an engineering professor at George Washington University, noted that the cost of rebuilding would depend on the new design.

The original Francis Scott Key Bridge, which cost an estimated $110 million, took only five years to build and opened in 1977, according to FOX 10.

TYRANNY: Bank of America Terminates Account of Conservative Independent Journalist Without Explanation

Independent journalist Christina Urso, known professionally as Radix Verum, has reported that Bank of America abruptly terminated her bank account. Urso, who has been critical in her reporting on various issues including the FBI’s involvement in the Governor Whitmer kidnapping case, took to social media platform X to voice her concerns and frustrations.

According to Urso’s posts on X, the termination came without warning or clear explanation from the bank’s risk department. She claims that despite her long-standing relationship with Bank of America, access to her funds was denied and she was informed that a check for the account balance would be mailed to her without specifying when.

“So Bank of America has decided to ‘terminate’ their business relationship with me. Their ‘risk department’ made this determination for literally no reason. I have been with them for years. This is clearly because of my documentary and my critical reporting.

“They won’t tell me why. They won’t allow me access to my bank account or to the funds. They are telling me I will get a ‘check in the mail’ but they won’t say when I can expect it. I am traveling at the end of this month for my documentary. Now I have no funds.

“They wouldn’t say when the check will come. I have a documentary film shoot in less than two weeks and I have crew members I need to pay, etc.”

Urso recounted a recent interaction at a local branch where she attempted to resolve this issue. During this visit, she engaged in what seemed to be routine conversation with a bank employee about her profession, which she now suspects may have led to the risk department’s decision to close her account.

“Here is a video of the bank employee – who was very kind btw and just doing her job – informing us about the decision by the “risk department” to terminate the account for no reason,” she wrote.

In a video statement, Urso provided further details and context about her situation, expressing her frustration and suspicion that the account termination is linked to her critical reporting and her upcoming documentary on the FBI’s misconduct in Governor Whitmer “Fednapping” case.

It can be recalled that the FBI used at least 12 informants in the Michigan Whitmer kidnapping case. There are 6 defendants and 12 FBI informants.

Urso described the situation as “disturbing,” citing past instances where Bank of America provided customer information to federal authorities around the January 6th events. She drew parallels between these actions and her current predicament.

In 2021, The Gateway Pundit reported that Bank of America searched through customers’ data and transaction records and provided these data to the FBI following the Capitol riot.

The country’s second-largest bank gave data and information to the feds at the request of the US government, without the knowledge or consent of the customers.

Bank of America scanned through customer records to flag the following:

Were they in DC between January 5 and January 6
Purchased a hotel stay or AirBnB in DC, Virginia, or Maryland after January 6
Airline-related purchases since January 6
Any purchase of weapons  between January 7 and their upcoming suspected stay in the DC area around Inauguration Day

In her video, Urso called on her followers and supporters to help spread the word and raise awareness about her situation. She also encouraged contributions to her documentary fund to help offset the financial difficulties caused by the account termination.

Bank of America has “debanked” conservative election fraud attorney Dr. John Eastman.

The Daily Caller reports that Eastman, who was recently disbarred by a left-wing judge in California over his efforts to expose massive fraud that marred the 2020 presidential election, had bank accounts with Bank of America and USAA closed without warning.

Eastman confirmed that he had already moved most of his money from Bank of America to USAA over concerns that the former was involved in leftist advocacy. Both of these accounts are federally insured and received massive taxpayer bailouts during the 2008 financial crisis.

Yet despite their links to the federal government, Eastman revealed that both of his accounts were closed within the space of two months.

As extensively reported by The Gateway Pundit, debanking has become one of the left’s favorite methods of going after their opponents. In 2021, this very publication was unceremoniously banned from PayPal, despite never violating its terms of service.

Over in the U.K., Brexit leader Nigel Farage also found that he was being denied accounts by major banks. After campaigning on the issue, he received an apology from Natwest (of which the British government is a major shareholder) and eventually forced the resignation resignation of its CEO Dame Alison Rose.

When individuals or organizations lose access to bank accounts, many of them lose large amounts of revenue and must find alternative methods of banking within a short space of time.
